Simone Manuel Isn’t Bothered By The Pool And Her Hair “Its Just Hair"

Recently Olympic champion and swimmer extraordinaire Simone Manuel spoke a little bit about her hair and how she cared for it while swimming.

We can imagine that many people would be curious and question how she handles her hair while swimming considering how harmful chlorine can be on hair strands.

In a short interview with Essence Live Simone spoke a bit about how her hair care in and out of the pool, and her answers may or may not surprise you:

“I switch products up around, depending how my hair is working at that time,” Manuel said. And according to her mother, Sharron Manuel, she had to remind Simone early in her swimming career not to let worries about her hair hold her back from pursuing her dreams full throttle.

“I told her it’s just hair,” Sharron said during the chat with Essence. “Beauty is from the inside and not the physical features.”

The publication pointed out that Simone was swimming with her natural hair until her last year of high school, opting to do a texturizer so she could try something a little different.

The truth is hair is very low on the priority list for Simone and if she had to choose between the aesthetic of hair and the pool, swimming would win every time.

I think there is an awesome lesson here, for one, Simone’s hair looks just fine so there is really no choice to make, if you choose to take care of your body, your hair will benefit greatly from it.

Black women have been stomping on the old belief that we do not work out or take care of ourselves due to our hair. That concept is so 1999 these days we will throw our hair bun and catch a Zumba class or run a few miles without batting an eye!
