Here Is Why The Baggy Method Did Not Work For Me

Just like many natural hair newbies when I went natural 3 years ago I struggled with moisture retention. I was continuously researching ways to retain moisture. No matter what I did my hair was always dry.

I tried the spritzing method but it left my scalp itchy and I had massive shrinkage. My twist outs were dry and spritzing them literally destroyed the twists.

I then discovered the baggy method from the natural hair community. Those who used it had moisture restored to their hair and from what I saw their twists looked good and they did not seem to experience any shrinkage.

I then decided to give it a try. I applied the conditioner, sealed with an oil and then put a plastic on. Instead of the results I thought I would have I started sweating, my scalp became itchy and I experienced massive shrinkage.

I then decided that maybe bagging my whole head was not a good idea instead decided to just baggy the ends of my hair. I applied the conditioner to my ends then sealed with an oil and then put a plastic bag to ponytails I installed in my hair. The results were that my ends became a tangled mess and then when I detangled them I had breakage.

I had to accept that this baggy method was not for me and find other ways of restoring moisture.

Alternative Moisture Solution.

The baggy method experience taught me that what works for others might not work for me so instead I went on a venture to figure out what works for me.

I started weekly deep conditioning* and religeously sealing with an oil and then stretching my hair while allowing it to air dry. My hair loved this and it started to respond in the way I expected, I even started retaining length.

The morale of the story is what works for one might not work for you. So, find your own happy medium for your hair and apply it.
