5 Short Hair Myths Debunked

Short hair isn’t for everyone. But, there are those who seemingly were made to wear short hair. There are so many women who absolutely kill it in the short hair game. You know the ones. They are more themselves than ever when their hair is short or cropped close to their heads.

Those same women just don’t give us the vibe when they venture to the other side and don a long hair wig* or weave*. The long hair is … cute, but it’s just not the same. There’s something to this. If you are one of the women who has what it takes to rock short hair, you should. The world needs what you give us.

It takes a special something to silently slay everyone with a simple haircut. If you want to wear short hair, then do it and do it well. What you shouldn’t do is get your hair cut and then timidly step out into the street with every stereotypical ‘short hair accessory’ available to you. Let the hair speak for itself. You don’t have to over accessorize just because your hair is short.

What you need to rock short hair

Let’s do this in reverse. Let’s talk about what you do NOT need in order to rock a short haircut. That will give us a clearer picture of the one thing you absolutely DO need to kill the short hair game.

Huge accessories

Hoop earrings that are literally bigger than your head, take away from the sophistication a short haircut brings with it. Don’t be confused, you can wear large earrings. But be sure that you are wearing the earrings and not the other way around. Don’t let the earrings wear you.

Short hair and big earrings is not only typical, but it sends the message that you want attention on your jewelry and not your short hair. A standout pair of earrings that compliments your outfit or makeup is a winning combination when it’s done just right. But, on a day to day basis, the hoops make us think you are totally committed to the hair standing on its own.

The perfect body

Society has a way of taking your truth and twisting it. When it comes to black hair, this could not be more true. So much is assigned to this or that style. From what it means about you as a person, to what who can and cannot wear a particular style.

Avoid falling victim to this ideology. You do not have to be skinny or have a perfect body to rock short hair. Many times the advice is given that short hair can only be flattering to certain body shapes or certain hair textures. None of that is fact. If you look and feel good about yourself, physically, that will come across and your shorthair cut cannot undo that.

The perfect face

This came from the same place as the item above. Your face is on front street when you wear your hair short. That is true, however, that doesn’t mean that one set of features is better or more suited than another set.

Cutting your hair and wearing it short is one of those things that is more about the person doing it than it is about the act itself. There are many different short hair variations available. Surely you can find one that accentuates your face perfectly.

Confidence

Remember how tackling the don’ts was going to lead to the do’s? You have arrived! The one thing that you cannot do without if you want to rock a short hair style is confidence.

To wear the style and not have it wear you; to go out without earrings the size of a basketball; to walk into the building with your shape and slay – all take confidence.

That is the only ingredient that is required for a short haircut to come off as amazing.

Your hair should take center stage, but only behind you, the person actually wearing the hair. When you over accessorize or when you cover your short hair up, you say to all those looking at you that you are not confident in your decision. It’s like you are cowering away and want the accessories to be the center of attention instead of your hair.

When Rihanna wore that pink pixie, did she seem like she wanted people not to see it? No! The whole point was to rock the short hair. The confidence it took to pull that off is what anyone needs who truly loves their short hair. When you wear it boldly, others have no choice but to believe you and treat you accordingly.

It’s an expression of who you are and short hair sends a message. You get to choose what that message is, so take advantage of the opportunity to speak your truth.
