How To Implement Scalp Massages for Increased Hair Growth

Scalp massage

Did you know that massaging your scalp can influence hair growth? Not only is the technique relaxing but the stimulation of your fingers on your scalp boost circulation in specific areas that allows for the hair follicles receiving more nutrients that it needs to promote growth.

I am not a biologist by any means but scientific studies have shown that the kneading pressure applied by a massage opens up the blood vessels to increases blood flow. The consistent rubbing reduces stress, helps to condition the scalp and strengthens the hair roots.

Scalp Massaging Tips

1. Use pure natural oils for your massage – I would suggest using penetrating oils such as coconut oil, or olive oil. Use rare oils that you do not typically use in your routine just to keep things interesting.

2. Add essential oils* to your carrier oils – For example 2 drops of lavender oil or rosemary oil, my personal favorite is peppermint oil*.

3. Use circular motions when performing the massage, not only is this super relaxing but the circular motions encourage blood flow on the area that you are working on. Do not scratch!

4. Use a specific pattern when massaging, for example start at the hairline and work your way back so that all areas of the scalp are covered and no areas are missed. Pay specific attention to the problem areas like edges and nape.

5. Be consistent- twice a week or 3 times a week and stick with it.

6. You do me; I do you – get your family, significant other or friends involved, sit or lie in a super comfortable position and enjoy the ride.

Oils and There Uses

Depending your needs you can tailor the oil or a combination of oils to that problem. I have some examples below:

Brittle hair or hair that is prone to breakage – Almond oil or Sesame oil is highly recommended

Thinning hair – Lavender Oil is known to nourish the affected areas and stimulate growth. (Lavender oil is normally paired with rosemary oil* in hair care recipes, they work well together)

Hair Shedding – Coconut Oil slows shedding and rosemary oil* strengthens the hair follicle which also reduces shedding.

Dandruff – Tea Tree Oil* mixed with carrier oil such as coconut Oil or Olive oil, tea tree oil* has anti fungal and anti bacterial properties

Restoration of PH– Lemon Oil, high in vitamins A,B and C. Lemon oil can be used to regulate sebum production and restores the hair’s natural PH. This gives the hair a healthy shine as well!

Invigorate and Energize the Scalp – Peppermint oil* hands down does this the best because of the tingling sensation that it provides when added to the scalp. It also promotes hair growth and helps with an itchy scalp.

Do you massage your scalp? If so what do you use?
