7 Ways To Rock A TWA

You may not think so immediately following your Big Chop but hands down the TWA is one of the sexiest hairstyles to rock for any woman embarking on a natural hair journey or in fact anyone who just prefers short hair.

Why is it sexy? Well for starters there is just something about not having all that hair covering up your face which  brings out all of the naturally beautiful features us women tend to hide behind our hair.

Your smile looks bigger, your cheek bones are more pronounced, you wear your confidence on your shoulders and that my friends, is the ultimate definition of sexy.

In celebration of the sexy TWA we wanted to share 7 ways to rock the style with as much confidence as the style calls for.

Makeup

Eh! there are two sides to this makeup thing. On one hand there is the woman who can rock a TWA with no makeup and look absolutely stunning, and on the other hand there is the other type of woman that prefers to wear a little something something on their face to make the final look even more dramatic and stunning.

The category you fall under depends solely on your preference but we want to make it clear that a TWA does not automatically mean that you should break the bank at the MAC counter.

Truly it just means being able to appreciate your face and new hair without any distractions in other words maybe your freckles aren’t so bad now that you can actually see them. If you are the shy retiring type, just get some chap stick and keep it moving.

Now if you are a little more of a glamour puss or it’s a special occasion, by all means grab the RiRi Woo and do the whole daggone thing! A red lip with short hair is fierce, there is no denying that.

Jewelry

Go big or go home right? Not always. Again the idea is to not be too overly-dramatic but play with your strengths and comfort levels to figure out what works for you.

Rocking short hair sometimes requires some accessorizing to complete the look and statement pieces can do just that if worn in a manner that fits the occasion.

Wearing a TWA allows for more jewelry play because you can see more of your face with no hair to cover up those fabulous earrings. We don’t usually encourage spending a fortune on anything around these parts but sometimes wearing something real plays into the idea of uber sophistication with your new shorter locks.

Don’t shy away from wearing mommy’s pearls or buying yourself something sparkly with a hefty price tag to adorn your new look. You are worth it!

Hair Accessories

You do not need the biggest hibiscus* you can find at the accessories store but cute hair adornments that fit your face and match your outfit are easy to get and there are tons of variety to choose from.

Make use of Etsy shops, sometimes you can find the coolest hand made hair accessories that would make any girl melt especially knowing that they are made with care.

Try to step out of the box as well when it comes to accessorizing, it doesn’t always have to be a flower, but scarves, barrets, or just a regular hairband with a dramatic pattern can work too.

Other options include Fedora hats, baseball caps or in fact any other hats. These are amazing to wear during the TWA phase because they are fun to switch up depending on the occasion or in fact, the season.

360 Waves For Buzz Cuts

Creating cute 360 waves using a durag is as easy as brushing your hair down with a pomade and covering your head with the durag for the night.

The guys at the barber shop will tell you that the trick to this style is turning the durag inside out so that the line is facing outward and tie your hair securely to encourage maximum shiny and fabulous waves.

While you are at the barber shop get your edges shaped up too. You might as well rock the TWA as neatly as you can because chances are you will have it for a while.

Color

A little color never killed a man or a woman. Don’t be shy either, find something different either dramatic bold color or subtle highlights, just don’t feel boxed in with styling choices.

Color is an easy way to spruce up any style and applying color to your TWA is way easier than it is when your hair is longer, and it takes less time! You don’t necessarily have to go lighter, especially if you are worried about hair damage, doing something darker if you have lighter hair will also change your look dramatically.

Be bold only if it fits your personality, no point suddenly get your hair colored purple if you aren’t 100% comfortable with it.

Comb Or Finger Coils

When your hair is a wee bit longer, you might be able to do some pretty finger or comb coils using a little water, leave in conditioner* and some styling gel. Comb coils are a popular go-to style for ladies at the TWA stage because they work for all textures from loose 3c’s to ultra tight 4b and 4c coils. Plus they are very easy to create.

Don’t go ham on products but use just enough to create the style and make it look as natural as possible. Additionally find a gel that absolutely does not flake. Its hard enough to hide flakes in long hair but near enough impossible when your hair is short.

Off Side Part

These can be so adorbale once you find your good side. Use a rat tail comb* to create the part and then use a boar bristle brush to define it.

Creating a part in the hair is an old school trick that is timeless especially for women. The part can be combined with the comb coils hairstyles we described previously to make a cute little style that needs no additional accessories.
