It’s Dryer Season

In the winter time, hair dryers are a girl’s best friend particularly since sub-zero weather and wet hair don’t make such a good combination. With that said, I started sleuthing because I think I will be gifting myself a new hair dryer. No doubt some of you have been thinking the same thing.

By now it is public knowledge that the black community is hands down the biggest consumer base, especially when it comes to hair tools and products, so as I started to look at what’s available I couldn’t help but feel some type of way when manufacturers of most of these products barely consider the uniqueness in the characteristics of our crowns when they dole out stuff expecting us to buy.

I mean, they have wised up considerably when it comes to the ingredients and formulation of hair products targeted at our demographic, but can we get a styling tool that is built with our hair in mind?

I guess Peggy Williams felt exactly like me because she surveyed the market, realized we were being guidelines (and exploited at the same time) so she decided to make a heat styling tool for afro-textured hair and people with multi-cultured hair.

This for me is all kinds of awesome since it will help naturals in the bid to explore the versatility of our kinks, curls and coils and it puts a spotlight on black entrepreneurship ( I do believe Madame CJ Walker would be proud).

Natural hair is awesome once you get the hang of it, and when you get past the awkward stage and have a good idea of what works for your hair, it all just seems like life offers you a canvas of endless possibilities as it relates to styling options.

Seriously, the versatility of our hair is enviable; we can go from slaying voluminous pompoudours, to perfectly defined curls to sleek straight hair slayage in no time. What’s great is that winter is a stone’s throw away and that’s the best time to shake things up and wear your hair out in a straight style.

Here is the thing though, have you ever tried to use a standard handheld dryer with comb attachments? How did that work out for you? If your hair is anything like mine then more than likely, you gave up in the first five minutes when your hair bullied the comb attachment off the dryer for the umpteenth time.

Ever figured you will just duct tape it onto the dryer to keep it in place only for the teeth to break when you try to get through one pass? In my case, the duct tape melted and it was not a pretty sight!

Apart from the fact that it is designed with us in mind, it is a black business y’all! We need to support our own when they go to bat for us because representation in business matters. Supporting one black business makes it that much easier for more to spring up and bring us the good stuff.

Final Thoughts

The MC Hot- N-Happy comes in at a cost of $180 but when you consider that there are dryers out there for $400 and they still have attachments that don’t stay in place, it’s a great investment for your hair. Besides, when you get right down to it, if you can get quality, then it stands to reason that it will last you a long time.
