Rosie The Riveter Updo With Locs

hqdefault (2)

Okay so usually I would not classify myself as not the most girliest of girls. I mean of course I love hair (If I didn’t I wouldn’t be here with yall , right?) and I do have a few other girly things that I am a fan of and one of them are the pin up looks (Dorothy Dandridge, Audrey Hepburn, etc).

To me there is nothing more gorgeous than a cat eye, red lipstick and a pretty updo! For this post , the gorgeous Youtuber Patience Edet shares hair “naturally” gorgeous take on the famous Rosie Riveter look, who was in my opinion is one of the  greatest symbols of strength and beauty during the “pin-up” era.

Items needed:

Moisturizing hair spritz- In the video Patience Edet uses African Royale Braid Spray (which you can find in stores for under $4 ) but you can use any moisturizing spritz that you want. A few good suggestions are Oyins Handmade Juices and Berries or you can make your own moisturizing spritz with 3 parts water, 1 part glycerin, and few drops of oil, shake that baby up in a spray bottle and moisturize away!

Hair pins- If you want to get fancy, you can use colorful hair pins for the “exposed pins” look

A Scarf- You do not necessarily have to use a bandana , you can bring an afro flair to good ole Rosie and use kente cloth or any other fabric you want.

Length required for this style: This style is for those ladies who have short- medium locs. However this hairstyle can be adapted for longer locs. For my ladies who do not have lovely locs you can still accomplish this style with some beautiful mini twists and mini braids (either on real hair or extensions*). You can even do this style on stretched or non-stretched hair if you want.

In this video (at round 9:53),  Patience Edet starts the style by freshly misting her hair with African Royal Braid spray. She then does a basket weave* technique all the way to the crown of her head. She pins that in place with a few bobby pins*. She then rolls the top of her hair into a pompadour of sorts and pins that back. She then takes a bandana (or you can use any scarf of choice) and ties is behind the pompadour bang.

You can check out her demonstration below!

I hope that you guys enjoyed this video and this look. Let us know your thoughts below !
