How To Install A Natural Lace Closure Without Sewing Or Glue
Weaves* and wigs are excellent protective styles for anyone who wants to take a break from their hair. They also offer styling versatility because while they’re installed, we only manipulate the extension hair (unless it’s a partial weave or ‘U’ part wig). Full weaves* and wigs are great because it leaves your entire head safe from heat damage, the elements, and even ‘hand in hair’ syndrome. To make the style as natural as possible, some women invest in a lace closure which gives them the ability to part their hair in the front – almost anyway they’d like.
The most conventional way to install a lace closure* is to sew or glue it on. It’s a smaller, shorter piece than the rest of the extension hair. However, The Chic Natural shows us a way to install the lace closure* AND a wig without any sewing or gluing onto your head. Here is a list of items you will need:
Closure
Wig Clips
Bobby Pins*
Needle/Thread
Elastic Band
Concealer
The first thing to do is attach the elastic band to the closure. Make sure that it will fit securely on your head, so that there won’t be any incidents! Also, sew two wig clips to the closure at this point.
It’s important that all of your hair lays flat underneath the wig, so it looks as realistic as possible. The Chic Natural parted her own hair down the middle and braided/twisted everything up. She also used a comb to place a center part in the closure. Place the closure* onto your hair (placing it over the part), and make sure it’s in the right place.
Next, take the wig and place it over your hair. It should come as close to the front of your head as possible, so that it can be covered by the hair that falls. She uses bobby pins* to secure the wig in place, however you can sew wig clips on to the ‘U’ part wig as well.
Once the wig has been secured, readjust the closure* accordingly. She places it a little further back from her forehead, so that her natural edges can be seen. This gives off a clean and professional look. Clip down the closure onto your head to secure it. If it seems like the closure doesn’t blend in with your scalp, you can take a little concealer and blend it from the closure to the top of your forehead.
To go an extra step, pull out a SMALL piece of your own hair from the front, and blend it with the extension hair. This isn’t necessary, but it’s useful. Now you can rock your protective style until your next wash day (…whenever THAT is!). For more long term maintenance, sew or clip the wig down during your install to prevent any slippage or movement throughout your day. This tip just saved me a trip to the hairdresser!
