A Few Tips To Start When Caring For Your Baby Boy’s Hair

CaptureWe love our little girls! We dress them in lavish clothes, we play dress up and have make up parties, and we do their hair in beautiful styles that can cause people to stop in their tracks and smile at them…. but wait! What about our little boys? We dress them and play with them, but what about their hair? Well I am so glad you asked.

It was the beginning of the year of 2014 that I had a beautiful baby boy. He was so perfect in every way and I was ready to love on him forever and ever. We play, laugh, and have lots of fun every day but it wasn’t until a few months ago that my baby boy’s hair went from wispy and thin to growing, growing, and growing to lush and curly hair.

I mean he has lots and lots of hair now and I’m thinking, “Hmm, it’s time to handle this little guy’s hair.” Now he’s neither old enough to get his hair cut nor get his hair braided, so what is left for me to do? If you have a baby boy and you are so lost about what to do with his hair, here are a few tips that can help you:

Gently cleanse his hair

When you have a baby under one year old, normally you don’t need to wash his hair with shampoos nor co wash with conditioners every day. All you really need is lukewarm water to cleanse his hair, because he does not do much during his day. However, there are those times he sweats at night or his gets food in his hair, which will call for a shampoo session.

If you do want to make sure his hair is clean, especially if he goes to day care, a light shampoo session would be sufficient. No need to scrub and scratch at his scalp for extra cleansing. Just run your fingers through his hair and then pour lukewarm water on his hair after the shampooing is complete. Oh! And make sure you do the “Alfalfa hair-point” as well, he will love that!

CaptureDon’t forget to moisturize

Your little one is still an infant, so no need to run out and get the latest baby hair product that you just saw on the commercial 5 minutes ago. You baby does not need much in order to keep his hair cleansed and maintained.

My recommendation is to be very light on the use of the any product for a baby. You can use a leave-in, an oil, or a butter for your baby but you do not need to use styling gels and heavy conditioners for him whatsoever.

Remember that your little guy’s hair and even his skin are still sensitive and delicate so be easy on the products you use for your little one.

Be gentle in everything you do

Remember to keep the routine plain and simple. This is so important when taking care of your baby boy’s hair. Be very gentle when washing, detangling, and styling because you do not want to associate getting your baby’s hair cared for with negativity and pain from his perspective.

Do not be so vigorous when drying his hair with a towel; all he needs is a “pat-pat-pat.” If your baby is moving his head when you are detangling, just let him be for the moment or give him a toy to distract him.

I will suggest that if you have a mover on your hands, put him in his crib to move around as you run light product on his hair. And when all else fails, wait until the morning to love on his hair.

Experiment!

You never know if anything is going to work, unless you try it out for yourself. If the lukewarm water when cleansing is not working, then try the all-in-one shampoo. Be careful with the shampoos; some are not tear-free, make sure to check the labels for ingredients.

If your baby boy is not feeling the detangling session after the cleansing process, then detangle when you are washing his hair. There are many ways to care for a baby’s hair; there is no “one way fits all” do what works for you and your baby.

Bald spots and styling encouragement

If your little boy has bald spots, that is actually normal, alot of babies will have them becuase they are going through so much changes as they grow, dont worry about it the hair will come with time.

I would get from the church folk that my baby has bald spots and I should be a better mother and cover them up. I almost deviated from my Christian values in order to tell them off but I decided to ignore and kept on strutting with my baby and his bald spots proudly.

I will encourage you to not take to heart what these indifferent and disrespectful wannabe parents say about how you care for and style your baby boy’s hair.

He is your baby and what you do with him is none of anyone else’s business. Now I will take tips and methods from others on what to do with my little guy’s hair, but that’s it. Don’t let these people get you down with their blames and claims.
