Introduce yourself and which salon if any do you work …

Hello everyone, my name is Tangie, and I’m a master braider here in Georgia – my passion is in braiding. I’ve been braiding for over 25 years and I love being creative. I only braid natural hair.

How long have you worked as a licensed cosmetologist (or equivalent in your country) and where did you study?

I have been licensed since 2005, but I have been braiding since I was 9, and I am 45 now. I went to Moellor Beauty College in Cincinnati, Ohio.

What is your specialty, relaxed, natural hair, locs or anything special?

My specialty is natural hair.

What in your opinion is the most rewarding thing about working as a hair stylist?

The most rewarding thing about working as a stylist is making clients feel good about themselves, and seeing the smiles on their faces.

When you meet that customer that has not had a great experience with a previous stylist, how do you make them comfortable while in your chair?

While in my chair, I let them know that this is my passion, and what’s important now is making them feel look their best – as well as feeling good. I also do a great consultation with them on what’s best for them.

If you could change one thing about the cosmetology industry, what would that be?

if I could change one thing, I would change the old school things being taught. We need more up to date lessons.

Where do you see yourself a few years from now, and what are your goals as a stylist?

I see myself as a braiding instructor, and owning a braiding school.

How do you stay motivated and on top of your game?

I stay motivated by talking to my clients about stepping out of the box; trying new hairstyles, and I feel good because they trust me a lot.

Here is a chance for you to sell ‘the stylist’ and your business; tell us why we should utilize your services.

I am not just a stylist; I am a passionate stylist that cares about my client’s overall picture, not just the hairstyle. I like making them feel good about themselves because a lot of times we are counselors as well – I make people feel great when their feeling down.

I love being creative in braiding, and taking care of my clients’ hair. I love hearing my clients say that they are walking billboards, and I love hearing the compliments they get.

All of my clients trust me enough to let me freestyle a style for them. I put my all in what I do, and seeing my clients’ smiles is worth a 1000 words to me. My name, Tangie’s 5 Star, is what I stand for – 5 stars for the service delivery.

I like to set the bar high, and I created an event called the braidfest. It’s going on the 3rd year because I want everyone to notice the art in braiding. It’s an event where braiders come from all over, showcase their work, and win $1000 and higher value cash prizes.
