6 Simple and Realistic Goals You Can Set for Your Hair in 2015

ce064cf360d1e7399a61916f79ab0465Making goals each year is a good thing because it gives you something to look forward to and a challenge to overcome and making plans to obtain those goals gives your goals heart, meaning and life. We all have goals and most of us here have hair goals but if you have nothing but an empty statement of what you want to achieve your goal will be as flimsy as a wet piece of paper.

The plans behind our goals are the meat and potatoes that will make your goal setting and achievement successful. For example, if your goal is to lose 50 lbs this year or by your 2015 birthday then your plan should involve exercising a few times a week or eating better. Let’s get even more specific. If your goal is to get your body into shape then your plan would specifically state the types of exercises you would incorporate and a specific diet.

Whether you are natural or relaxed you should have hair goals and they must be attainable and less like pipe dreams. I want to lose about 60lbs and have hair down to my butt is not enough of a realistic goal without a clear set plan. We deliberately left out goals that had anything to do with growth because your hair is always growing.

Here are some goals that are simple, attainable, realistic and positive that will give your hair whatever it needs and allow you to feel accomplished in 2015.

1. Introducing more natural oils into your regimen

Natural oils* are big business now and whether natural or relaxed you cannot find a product that is not boasting about having one (or more) in their bottle. Jojoba oil*, Mafura Oil, Hemp oil*…the names seem endless and so do the benefits. Our world is chocked full of essential and carrier oils* and many can feed your hair all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and grow.

If you are stuck on a favorite oil then expand a tad bit and incorporate a few new ones and see if you like them as much if not better. Having dandruff issues? Try tea tree oil* acts as anti-fungal that kills the bacteria causing the over production of the skin cells which creates white flakes called dandruff. Having problems with moisture retention? Give hemp oil* a try as it shores up the inter-cellular matrix, and will protect your strands against moisture loss.

2. Trying more DIY hair mixes.

Not everyone likes creating a DIY mix and actually you do not have to but if you want something that you just cannot find that works just for you then trying a DIY might be the answer. What do you think tea and coffee rinses are?

They are DIY mixes or recipes that allow you to do for yourself what a bottle can not or will not do for you. If you brew your favorite tea, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, then you have a DIY mix that can be used on your hair!

It just takes a little creativity, ingenuity and guts to try something new and no one says you need more than 3 items for a DIY. Some mixtresses make it ultra complicated but never feel you have to do the same.

Think small, simple and what your hair needs and you will come up with something that will be perfect for you. Interested in Ayurveda? Just add a Ayurvedic powder (like Marshmallow root) to your conditioner and you made your own Ayurvedic mix! Yes, it is really that simple.

03. Incorporating healthier food choices

Eating better or healthier seems to be on everyone’s New Year’s list but this can also spill over into a great asset for your tresses. I have long known eating healthy was the best way to get my hair healthy and to grow long while retaining its length. It takes more than food but it takes food more than it takes vitamins* or any other supplement on the market.

Inversion method? Girl, please! Eat kale to get your hair to grow quickly! My point is nothing you add to your hair or do to your hair will aid in its health more than eating right.

A good system would be to concentrate on just one meal a day first as a way to eating better. Last year I worked on breakfast. I never eat breakfast except on the weekends but everyone says you must do it. So I started doing green smoothies and within a few months it was a staple for me Monday-Friday.

4. Leaving behind one bad hair habit from 2014.

I know you have one because we all do so just leave that bad boy in 2014 where it rightfully belongs. We do not even have to say what it is. Hec, I know mine and you know yours and the quicker you leave that sucker in your past, the quicker you can forget about it and incorporate a better hair habit.

5. Do routine protein treatments and/or deep conditioning* treatments

These are necessary anyway so just doing what needs to be done and staying on top of that is a must. Do you have a planner? Write down when you need to do it as a reminder until it becomes a habit.

Remember that every wash day needs a deep conditioning*. Protein treatments can be done monthly or even less but you cannot avoid them completely they are necessary for every regimen.

6. Forgive hair mistakes.

We will make many mistakes in 2015 and not just with our hair. My motto is, mistakes are OK as long as we learn from them so make sure you are not repeating any from 2014 or even 2013 and you will be in good shape this year.

Forgive yourself and move on and remember you are human. Beating yourself up for faltering will only get you down and inhibit your goals and we do not want that. Dust yourself off and get back to your goals you will be breezing right into 2016 all the wiser and with healthier hair.
