One Method You Can Try to Successfully Blow Dry 4C Natural Hair without Damage

Natural hairHave you been trying to get the perfect blow out for what seems like ever and it still isn’t working? Are you getting knots and tangles while you do it, or do you not have the soft and sleek look that you’d like? Girl, I’ve been there!

If you have thick 4c hair, it may seem hard to blow dry it and get soft, bouncy results. Fortunately though, the fabulous ladies of Youtube came to the rescue (as usual!). Here’s how you can blow dry kinky hair and get the look you want!

What You Need

Heat Protectant – in the video, she uses two different kinds of heat protectant*. The first is a foam that contains hydrolized protein (to replace the protein lost from applying heat) and the second is silicone based.

The silicone based heat protectant* adds extra shine to hair and reduces the rate that heat travels through our hair. (Silicones usually coat the hair, which is why we don’t really use them in conditioners, however it definitely works as an extra layer when using heat)

Coconut oil* – along with being a staple in MANY natural hair regimens, it smoothed and softens hair, and it can also help with protein loss.

Blow dryer* + concentrator – although she doesn’t use a concentrator in the video, it’s recommended to use one so you don’t have to spend as much time going over your hair with the blow dryer*

Denman brush

0What to Do

1. Part your hair into manageable sections (six or more). Braid/twist them up and move them out of the way until you’re ready to work on them.

2. Detangle section fully! You can finger detangle, but you could also go in with the denman brush* to make sure there’s no shed hair or extra tangles.

3. Add heat protectant. Hold section in place with the denman brush* starting at the ends. Make sure it’s stretched, and use a warm/cold shot to blow dry. Make your way up the hair shaft until you reach your roots.

4. Twist the section and clip it away when you’re done to prevent you from going over it again. Repeat.

Although this method may seem a little time consuming, it’s better for the health of your hair in the long run. You prevent excess breakage and knotting that can occur with using the comb attachment on your blow dryer.

Your hair will also be soft, shiny, and not weighed down! Rock the blow out for as long as you’d like, then wash your hair to bring your curls back. It can be a fun change, and your hair will thank you!
