natural hair eat healthy

We all want anything that can help us reach our hair goals for 2015, and everything you put in, you get out. With a few of these foods added to your grocery list, slowly but surely you will see improvements in the growth, strength and even the sheen of your hair!

Here are 5 foods that will promote hair growth.

Seafood

Seafood is going to provide you with omega 3s, which give moisture for fragile hair. They also provide hair with a sheen because of the fatty acids that they contain.

Salmon is a great source of seafood, and tastes great with just about anything! Seafood is also a great source of protein, and that is your #1 goal in any food you eat, because our hair is made up primarily of protein. As a result it needs to be replenished by putting in protein as well, particularly in the diet.

Usually a regular type of fish will do, anything smaller and the chances of protein and omega 3s grow slim. Bass and cod are also great foods to keep your hair healthy and vibrant.

Nuts

Nuts are very versatile foods to eat for your hair. Some have loads of protein, some have biotin*, and a bunch of other things that are great for scalp and hair health.

One cup of almonds has 1/3 of a daily serving of biotin*, a pertinent vitamin beneficial to our hair growth. Brazilian nuts contain selenium, which has been discovered as a mineral for scalp health.

Walnuts and cashews contain omega 3 acids and zinc, and without those two, our hair can begin to shed or break off quite easily. Any local grocery store will have a great nut mix, but make sure to check the ingredients and make sure that the product only includes the nuts themselves; if they do not, the nuts might not have the same ingredients as organic. Raw nuts are expensive, but picking one a week can ultimately CHANGE your hair forever.

Eggs

We all want a food that has the superstar ingredients eggs are the triple-threat as they have omega 3, biotin, and are a great source of protein.

Each serving of eggs usually contains 6 grams of protein and about 1/2 of your recommended serving of biotin. Boiled eggs usually have a higher content of your key ingredients because they are protected by the shell.

The protein will contribute to your length, and the omega 3s will help your scalp health and boost sheen. You can also use eggs as the main ingredient in a protein treatment.

Green vegetables have about every vitamin that is necessary for hair, skin, and nail health. Spinach has vitamin A*, Folate, and iron*, all of which are good for blood circulation and overall health. Edamame has 10 grams of protein per serving, and green beans have vitamin C* and vitamin A*.

No matter which green vegetable it is, you can rest assured that they will contribute to your overall health as well as help strengthen brittle hair, and diminish split ends. You can add a green vegetables as a side order to any dish, or even mix them in (they usually taste pretty good).

Even if you eat lots of greens, you have to make sure not to cook them too long. Try eating them raw because that’s when they are most potent in fact, each minute they are on the stove they loose essential nutrients. Cooked spinach loses almost 10% of it’s nutritional value after being cooked in oil.

Beans

Beans are protein packed as well. Any type of bean is bound to have 3 grams of protein per serving, and the best part is you can add beans to any dish and have an amazing plate! You can also add a serving every other day and get twice your protein servings (based on the average height and weight for a woman), and that extra protein can go into growing more hair!

The best type of bean to grow hair is lentils. Lentils are small and great in any type of soups, but they are also rich in  iron*. Lentils also go great with cheese, which is a great source of protein as well.

Eating Healthy Food with Lots of Water

No matter how much of these great foods you eat, if you don’t have a healthy diet and drink as much water as you should, they won’t have enough of an impact.

You should drink half of your body weight in ounces of water everyday. For example, I am 130 pounds; therefore, I drink 65 ounces of water a day.

It may seem a bit challenging to keep track of the amount of water you drink, but everyday you skimp on your proper water intake leads to another day of your hair going dry, because the water has to work internally first. A healthy diet with all your necessary veggies and fruits, and a low sugar and carbohydrates diet can grow your hair better than any of these super foods.

These special foods can be added to any meal, and you will see results with your hair type, probably after about a month or so.

Other than being great for hair, adding these foods to your diet can improve your skin complexion, physical appearance, nails, energy levels, flexibility, and even influence your mood by affecting the hormones responsible for making you happier. Healthy eating sure has its benefits.
