Would You Ever Pay $150.00 For A Hair Product?

kerataseThe other day I was reading a blog post about Kerastase Chronologiste. Truthfully the product sounds awesome, but before I even get into that, the treatment alone costs $150.00.

Yes you read that right, I did not accidentally add an extra ‘0’, it literally costs a buck 50! Now let me not come on here and act as if it is the first time that I have ever in my life seen a very expensive product that is supposed to work wonders for your hair.

I have seen them and I have often wondered if at the bottom of the jar or bottle I would find the rainbows’s treasure maybe? Maybe a diamond or a pearl or something rather exotic that would make my hair magically heal itself from all its troubles.

All jokes aside, when you see a product like the Chronologiste treatment that is that expensive how do you know if it’s worth it? Well the first thing we would check is the ingredients:

Cationic Derivatives – Soften, smooth and facilitate detangling.

Silicone Concentrate – Emollient ingredient brings suppleness and shine. Hair fiber is renewed, deeply nourished and strengthened.

Gluco-Lipids – Restore nutritive deficiencies.

Squalane – Essential fatty acid protects fiber and scalp from drying out.

Trio of Ceramides – Strengthens and regenerate the fiber; hair integrity is preserved.

Vitamin A* & E – Anti-oxidant protection leaves hair safe-guarded from external aggressions; scalp is regenerated, soothed and hydrated.

Bisabolol – An active principle of Chamomile, heals the scalp.

Enriched Pacific Sea Water – Ultra-rich minerals and micronutrients increase skin barrier function and hydrate the scalp.

Those are some fancy-pants ingredients, they translate to, fats, a few great vitamins*, a bit of herbal action and some protein. In comparison to other deep treatment masks, this one is pretty good but at the same time very comparable.

I hate to pit one company against the other, but at that price all rules get broken so the next step for me in deciding the worth was looking at the ingredients of one of my favorite brands, Shea moisture*.

I chose the Jamaican Black Castor Oil* Strength And Grow Treatment Masque that everyone is going crazy over. Let me not copy and paste the extensive list of ingredients here, because I might bust my word count. The point is the product has even more ingredients that can lead to the soft, smooth shiny hair that Chronologiste guarantees.

Shea moisture* is not enriched with Pacific Sea Water though and well I have my doubts on that ingredient anyway, because it might just simply be ‘water’.

To be fair I would never purchase a product that cost that much at my present budget, if I was Rihanna or a Shia Lebouf with a new ponytail, maybe I would sing a different tune, but for now I am just Petra with a 12.00 spending max on treatments.

Is the product worth $150.00? For me, no way! But it depends on who you ask… It does have pearls in it though that burst in your hair, but even with such luxury, I think I would much rather buy a pair of shoes!

What do you guys think? Would you spend $150.00 on a hair product?
