The Middle Of My Hair Is Not As ‘Soft’ As The Front And Sides How Do I

FroThere was a point in my journey when I genuinely believed that the middle of my hair was permanently damaged from the last relaxer I had. When my hair grew out it was as if the middle had a entirely different personality from the back, sides and the crown.

The front of my hair has always been looser and much easier to manage than the middle. The middle of my hair tends to be drier and the curls are a lot tighter in comparison to other areas of my head.

This isn’t something that is uncommon. Many of us have this same ‘problem’ and often the question is: “How do I fix the middle of my hair so that it can be more like the fronts and sides?”

The solution is not necessarily to make one area of your hair act like the other areas but rather figure out the needs of that area of your hair and treat it differently. Here is what I mean.

1. When you deep condition

When you deep condition your entire head ensure to add more product to the kinkiest section of your hair so that your product can soften the area and add the moisture it needs. Deep conditioning* with heat will moisturize the hair, strengthen it and make easier to detangle and manage .

2. When you detangle

Detangle that area separately from other areas of your hair. Separate it into smaller sections if you need to and keep in twists so that it remains detangled.

Chances are you are doing that with your whole head anyway but you do not want to mix your kinkier sections with your looser sections because that can lead to snags and snapping.

3. When you add moisture

Add more moisture to the middle of your hair (if that is the kinkiest section) so that you can ensure that it remains hydrated. The kinkier the section the harder it is for it to maintain its moisture. Seal the middle of your hair very well.

4. When you trim

Pay attention to the ends of the middle section, you want to keep your entire head in tip top shape, but drier areas can sustain more damage. Watch out for that as you trim your hair!

This does not mean you aren’t treating the other areas of your hair with kid gloves, we are only suggesting that you be attentive to any sections of your hair that might need a bit more care.

Pretty soon you will get so used to what every area of your hair needs that how you treat each area will come natural to you!
