3 Ways To Style Your Senegalese Twists Protective Style

protective stylesHave you ever installed your Senegalese protective twists or any protective style for that matter and then looked in the mirror and asked yourself … now what?

This happens to the best of us, we enjoy the hair for a few days in basic styles, like ponytails or just plain jane ‘out’ and then we start getting antsy for something new.

What is the point of having all this long glorious hair and not having a few styles on hand to do. The below video was done by the ever ‘vibesy’ Tupo Kay.

She loves her twists and she demonstrates 3 ways to style them that you can try as well when rocking this protective style.

With any protective style one of the most important things to remember is to keep your hair neat and the hair under the twists healthy using moisturizer.

On the blog we have two braid spray recipes that you can check out here. My personal favorite is the protein based recipe because I have very fine hair and sometimes your hair will need some strength while in a protective style.

The recipe for that spray is as follows:

Ingredients:

1 part vegetable glycerine

1 part Infusium 23 leave in

3 parts water

2-3 drops hydrolyzed protein (optional)

5-8 drops Sandalwood essential oil (optional)

Once you have successfully moisturized your hair you can proceed with styling your hair. We have two tips for styling; the first is do not do the same style every day especially if the style will put stress on the same area all the time.

Remember even though you look great in those twists this is still a protective style and your actual growing hair is your top priority so while you get creative with your hair remember not to neglect its health.

The second tip we have is closely related to the first one which is basically avoid tugging on your edges with your styles. With added hair your small sections are under a bit of stress so do not add to that by pulling your hair too tightly when putting in your Goody bands or scrunchies.
