4 Ways To Avoid Sun Damage This Summer

woman in a hatIs it starting to feel like Summer where you are yet? We have had some pretty hot days where I live and as such I have been pulling out all sort of hats especially on the days I have to be out in the sun.

Many of us do not consider the sun when we think about heat damage. We tend to focus solely on heat styling tools like flat irons* and blow dryers* but consider this.

When you feel the heat of the sun on your skin especially on super hot days that burning sensation is the same thing that your hair is subject to. On a day out or even all Summer long avoid heat damage by practicing these 4 things:

  1. Sunscreen for your hair – There are many products out there that tout “UV protection” but it probably is not enough for your hair. You are better off using actual sunscreen diluted with some water, add a little natural SPF in the form of an oil and spray that on your hair. Use your sunscreen as often as you need to keep your hair safe.
  2. Deep condition with protein – You need to strengthen your hair as much as you can during the Summer. Alternating between moisture and protein gives your hair everything it needs to protect itself from the environment.
  3. Hats – Floppy hats are perfect for a day out because not only do they look great, they also protect your hair from the sun. Put your hair in a low bun or if you leave it out so that the hat will fit better.
  4. Tuck the oldest portions of your hair – Summer fun and Summer buns are almost synonymous with each other. Buns keep your ends protected from the sun and if tucked enough you can get a good portion of the strand out of the heat for the entire day.

Try these 4 simple precautions this Summer to avoid sun damage as much as you can.
