The Top 3 Times You Should Go To A Salon

woman at a salonI know when I first started my hair journey, I was going from having someone always doing my hair, to having to learn about it myself. Even though it was a little scary at first, I took the time to learn about my hair.

What most naturals don’t realize though, is that even though we can learn everything through trial and error, things would be MUCH easier if we simply saw a professional.

After researching to find a good stylist that can care for your curls, you will of course need to decide what they can do for your hair. If you’re a natural hair newbie, or if you’re a pro, here are three times you will probably need to see a stylist.

Trim/Cut

Scissors and natural hair? This can be a drastic combination if you try to trim your hair yourself. A professional stylist will know whether to cut your hair wet or dry, how to position it, and even how much to take off (although you can tell them what’s too much). They will also have higher quality scissors, that will cut sharply without additional breakage.

Color

If you plan on coloring your natural hair, you will be dealing with chemicals. Chemicals used improperly can lead to permanent damage.

Instead of picking up a box color or trying to lighten your hair yourself, go to a professional. They know the correct products, techniques, and color combinations to change your hair color without further damage. They can also coach you on maintenance.

Consultation

If you’re starting any kind of hair journey at all, this would be the perfect time to get a consultation. Go to a salon and stylist that you trust, and let them know what you’re trying to do.

If you’d like to transition or big chop, they can give you tips on how to make the process as smooth as possible. You can of course supplement their tips with free information from blogs and vlogs, but it gives you an advantage to learn from a pro.

Ultimately, you will know what’s best for your hair as you go through your hair journey. You won’t need to spend tons of money going to a stylist every two weeks.

However, if you feel like you need some help and don’t know when you should go to a salon, above are the top three times you should. Use your discretion, love your hair, and take it from there.
