3 Tips That Will Help You Stick To Your Hair Journey

hair journeyAre you in a rut in your hair journey? Do you feel like it’s getting boring, or it’s too hard and you’d like to give up? I’ve been there before.

After the honeymoon period of starting a hair journey, and wanting to learn anything and everything about our hair, we can get stuck into a routine.

We could also feel like we’re trying, but our hair journey isn’t going the way we’d like to. Instead of giving up, here are a few ways to fall back in love with your hair journey.

Try new styles

Even being a lazy natural, I get tired of doing the same hair style every day after a while. Sometimes it’s good to switch things up.

If you’re getting bored with your hair journey, take the time out one day to try something different. Luckily, natural hair is versatile, so there are tons of ways to play with it. If you normally wear wash n gos, try a twist out or a perm rod set, and vice versa.

Find new and interesting styles, or begin playing with accessories. As long as you keep your hair healthy, you can do anything. And if you aren’t bored, you’ll be less likely to give up.

Find support

To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure where my hair journey would be without the natural hair community. Watch Youtube videos, read blogs, and reach out to other women with a hair type similar to yours.

Just knowing that there are other women around that are sharing your experience can make it easier to continue your hair journey. You can get tips, advice, and so much more just from having a support system.

Track your progress

No, I don’t mean carry a ruler with you and measure your hair every single day. But sometimes we can get stuck in the every day process of caring for our hair that we don’t notice the growth.

Take pictures of your hair at different milestones (like six months, one year, etc). Also take photos with your favorite styles when you can. That way, when time passes you can compare your growth and see how far you’ve gone. Seeing progress is one of the best motivators to keep going.

Your hair journey is a period of exploration and growth. Even if it seems hard, you can continue going even when it gets rough. How do you keep interested in your journey?
