Planning To Wear Mini Braids? Here Are 9 Pros and Cons Of This Versatile Style

mini braidsWhen it comes to wearing mini braids I am a true walking testimonial. These are my go to style all year round and definitely perfect for my frequent washer lifestyle.

However, as many protective styles, there are also some downsides with wearing mini braids (like putting them in for example). Want to mini braids? Keep on reading to learn more about them.

Pros

They last for a very long time

Mini braids are the true lazy girls hairstyle. These babies can can last for 4-6 weeks. I have even heard of some ladies that have been able to keep in their braids for 7 to 8 weeks, but we do not recommend that.

Due to the tautness of braids, they can take more wear and tear than mini twists. They are also excellent for those of us who are moms, students, or just need a nice hair break

Mini braids provide extreme versatility

Mini braids can easily mimic the style versatility of locs and loose hair. However the versatility of the style depends on how small or big the mini braids are created.

You can rock casual updos. one big French braid, braided pin curls. You can do so much that it would be hard to become bored with them. The versatility factor can also help with those of us who are on protective style challenges to keep our hairstyles looking spicy.

They show length really well

If you really want to rock a hairstyle that shows your length without heat, then mini braids would be a great choice. As most of us know, braids in general do a great job at stretching our natural hair.

When you rock them as a style, you get both a nice stretched hairstyle that shows your length with little to no manipulation.

They show very minimal frizz

When done right, mini braids can produce very little frizz. This is great for those of us who tend to like sleek hairstyles.

Less frizz can also mean less tangling and can help with stretching your protective style a little farther. This is pro right here have made mini braids the low manipulation hairstyle of choice for many women in comparison with twists, finger coils, etc.

Great for frequent washers

Are you a daily swimmer, workout a lot, or just like to frequently wash your hair? Then mini braids may be your go to style.

Mini braids are excellent for those of us who likes to wet our hair constantly because of how durable they are. You can wash your braids at least twice a week without the worries of a thousand tangles or constantly redoing your hair which can add unnecessary manipulation to your strands.

So as I’ve probably mentioned once (or maybe two or three) times , mini braids are an excellent low manipulation hairstyle. Mini braids are a very get up and go hairstyle.

Just wake up, fluff, maybe add a hair accessory and keep it moving. And as many of us know, this comes in handy during busy mornings or days that you just want to chill in the house and not have to work up early to remove braids or bantu knots for an out style.

Cons

It can take forever to install them

So one of the biggest cons when it comes to mini braids is that they can take forever to put in. Personally for me because I do them so often, they take me no more than 5 hours to install. But this can highly vary on your hair density, heir length, and how small you make your braids.

I have heard the time that it takes to install these babies range from 3 hours to 12 hours (Jeesh!). With this said, if you are not a patient person or do not like to spend no more than 2 hours doing your hair then mini braids may not be the hairstyle for you.

Can take forever to remove them

So if you have experienced the joys of putting in mini braids then you must have had a bounty full of joy when taking them out. NOT! I will be the first to say that mini braids are an absolute pain to take out. AN. ABSOLUTE. PAIN.

While I do love them, you will definitely need a movie and some snacks. I’ve heard many women say that taking them out can take just as long as putting them in, sometimes even longer.

This is no lie but I do have to say that the benefits that you can get from rocking mini braids can out weigh the taking down process.

There is no volume to be found

Last but not least, if you like rocking big hair mini braids may not be the style for you. Unlike styles such as mini twists, there is no volume.. at all, unless you happen to be blessed with super dense hair.

This is due to the minimal shrinkage that mini braids have. Basically the less shrinkage a style has, the more volume your hair loses. UNLESS you are rocking a nice blow out, then things are entirely different!

Would you ever try mini braids?
