Cheap Hair Hack To Mimic A Hooded Dryer

Afrikanhairgod

Ever since I began my natural hair journey, I’ve mostly stayed away from all kinds of heat. I had this old hooded dryer* since the 90s, and after a dozen near death experiences, I decided it had to go.

Does this mean I need to buy a new hooded dryer* or even go to the salon? Apparently not. This hack is simple, easy, and cheap (and it’s definitely thinking outside of the box).

What You Need:

•Blowdryer

•Plastic Shopping Bag

What to Do:

1. Cut or pop a few holes in the bottom of the plastic bag, to prevent your dryer from overheating.

2. Place the plastic bag gently over whatever hair style you’re trying to dry (whether you’re doing a roller set, setting twists or coils, whatever). Try to tuck the handles of the bag behind your ears so that the heat doesn’t escape and the bag doesn’t fly off once you start.

3. Place the blow dryer* underneath the plastic bag. Use it on whatever heat setting you prefer. Be careful not to put the front of the dryer too close to your face, especially if it gets hot around the edges. You don’t want be burned!

4. Move the blow dryer* around underneath the bag, concentrating on the areas you want to dry. As long as you have some arm strength, you should be fully dry in 15-20 minutes (as seen in the video). Simply remove the plastic bag and you’re done!

I want to say that this is one of the more creative hair hacks that I’ve seen, and it seems to get the job done. I may still want to invest in a newer (and less dangerous) hair dryer*, but you can always try something once right? Afrikanhairgod calls this “Blowdrying in Da hood”, we call it practical! Watch the video and tell us your thoughts on this blow dryer* hack?
