I am definitely one who has not adopted the no-poo curly girl method. As a result of product build up, every few weeks my hair needs a clarifying cleanse and co-washing just can’t get the job done!

The problem with some shampoos is that they contain sulfates. A sulfate is a surfactant that basically gives your shampoo the lather and causes it to foam up. This chemical is bad because it strips our hair and causes the cuticle to open up, thus releasing moisture and resulting in dry, brittle strands.

1. Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo

This salon quality shampoo is sulfate and paraben free and offers a refreshing tingle. The peppermint* and tea tree oil* infused within the product help to moisturize, clarify and alleviate a dry scalp. In addition it is also cruelty-free (no animal testing).

You can get this for about $7 at Trader Joe’s or online if there isn’t a store near you. Pair this with the Tea Tree* conditioner and your scalp and hair will feel amazing!

2. Creme of Nature Moisture and Shine Shampoo with Argan Oil

This shampoo will gently cleanse your hair without the stripping. The formula also strengthens your hair while helping to retain moisture balance of both your hair and scalp. It is infused with Argan oil* from Morrocco which is rich in beneficial nutrients to make hair softer, silkier and shinier.

You can find this for about 4 bucks at Walmart.

3. Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex Shampoo 10-in-1 Renewal System

We all know the benefits super fruits have on our hair. With this shampoo containing extracts from them, it offers hydration, color protection and age-defying properties. It also is great for nourishing your hair and making it softer.

These typically run for almost $10 but you can often find a BOGO sale going on at your local drugstore.

4. Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo

If you don’t already know, Giovanni products are prefect for repairing damaged hair. This shampoo is all organic and is cruelty-free. It’s perfect for moisture retention and resulting in softer hair.

You can purchase this product from Walmart for about $7.

5. Eden Body Works Jojoba Monoi All Natural Moisturizing Shampoo

This shampoo is also cruelty-free and contains no sulfates, parabens, dyes or mineral oils* (petroleum). It is immensely great at removing oil and dirt while replenishing the hair and scalp’s natural moisture balance.

The shampoo tends to cost about $8 and you can find it at Walmart or Target.
