How To Use Your Own Hair As A Donut For A Sleek High Bun Great For Transitioners

Big-Textured-High-Bun-Afro-HairWant to see a neat trick? I am not very good at pulling a rabbit out of a hat but when I do find a cute little trick on a YouTube channel somewhere I am pretty good at sharing it.

Buns are my thing, they have been for a long time, they are easy, they look professional and super sexy when transitioning to a night time style.

The thing is I never invested in one of those donut bun* doohickies even though I like how neat they made buns look. I have made a sock bun once or twice but wasn’t as committed at using them.

In this video Leslie from Fresh Lengths uses her own hair to create the bulk you need when doing a super high bun. She uses two hair ties* to achieve the technique and I am sure many of you have at least two hair ties.

In another post maybe we can discuss where hair ties and hair pins go when they decide to run away because … gurl!

To achieve the bun you will need the following

Two hair ties*

Gel

Moisturizer

Oil

Leslie mixes her gel with a little oil in a separate container and that in itself was pretty neat, I have tried it and it does indeed get rid of the flakes you might experience with some gels.

She used the gel to smooth her edges and then forms a high ponytail. Half way up the ponytail she adds the second hair tie which creates a little donut ring between the base of the ponytail and the second hair tie.

Using the rest of the ponytail she forms the bun securing it with those elusive bobby pins* you can find in your purse or in the fridge (Not even lieing)

Don a scarf to keep the edges intact for a few minutes, and voila, a chic high bulky bun!
