Part 1 2013 World'S Next Top Natural Hair Model Hairstyle (Bantu Knots)

Part 1 2013 World's Next Top Natural Hair Model Hairstyle for Contest (Bantu Knots)

Hello, YouTube um. This is truly blessed coming to you, wyd at like two-thirty in the morning yeah. I don't have to work tomorrow, so kind of take an advantage of this time, but anyway um. This is my first youtube video. Finally, getting around to doing it, I been planning on doing for the last two or three years, and so here I am, and this video is going to be about a hairstyle that I'm going to attempt to do. This is my first time combining the two hairstyles together, but we'll see how it goes, but I'm I just want to start off and give you guys a brief introduction about me and my natural hair journey and the whole shebang will um. This is my second time around going natural. I was natural back in. I did the first transition back in 06 and I was natural for three years so from 06 209 I was natural and then like what was I thinking like? I just I don't know how wasn't thinking, but I was playing feeling Chinese one day and I just got the urge to do something, just drastic and indeed it was drastic. But I decided to get a relaxing. So, after 34 years of the trials and errors of the natural hair journey, I decided to get a relaxer Yeah right cricket cricket, but um so yeah. Once i got that relaxer in january 2009 and as soon as I had to relax her, my hair was healthy. I mean it was the healthier healthier city has ever be in my entire life. I mean that just goes to show that when you give your hair a break from chemicals, then you got your natural texture go out. If you were to relax it again, then it will be if the healthiest point that hit you know that it has ever been before. So that's where it was at that moment, but I just wasn't. I still wasn't happy because I I missed my natural hair. I missed the versatility of it, the the big styles d. I mean it's so much, you can do a natural hair in and I missed that you know I don't know. I just really can't really put it into words, but I mean having a relaxer. I didn't really feel like. I had a sense of self, like I felt for lack of a better word standard. I mean like being natural, I feel free, I feel, like I'm unique, I can express myself. I can be creative, it's just liberating. You know so um. So yeah, that's pretty much a brief! You know the introduction of my natural hair journey. Well that part. So after that um the relaxer I got in January 09. That was my first and last relaxer like I didn't even wait for three months. Get another relaxer wait! Another three months with another relaxer that was my last relaxer like period, so when he ain't got relaxer and after day I automatically made the decision that day to transition back to natural talk about devastating. I was just devastated because gosh i was gon na say so I that was my last relaxer and this time. The first time I did a transition of six months. So this time, since I knew more about natural hair, I decided that I would do a longer transition which my goal was a year or more, and I I was halfway there, but I made another mistake. So, as you know, when you're transitioning, your hair has two different textures, so you have like now I mean like my hair was more kinky than this. This is a result of Flatiron relaxing my texture of it that's a whole nother story, but yeah so anyway. So the texture was coming in and it was really tight and you know kinky. It was very tight curls and then the relax ian was like on a straight on the ends. It was straight so those two textures, as you can imagine, was very hard to deal with, so I did a little protective styles like solians, wigs straw sets and things like that. So then I made it to the 11-month mark and I had this wise idea that I could treat my hair the same way. I did when it was completely natural, ding, ding, ding ding wrong. Okay, so i went to sleep with a head full of conditioner. In my head, my hair was not braided in any kind of way. It was just all conditioner over my head and I went to sleep in a shower cap, and I woke up in. I was in for a big surprise, I'll see. If I can post a picture of my hair, but when I woke up it was a massive tangle we've of a mess I mean it was horrible and, like I dramatically knew what the result was going to be. Okay, I had to do my big chop prematurely. It was only a month, but I really didn't think if the journey would have you know kept going smooth sailing, then I would have transition a little longer, so I had to go the day before Christmas. It was Christmas Eve and I had to go and get the big chop all over. Oh gosh, I cried. I cried. I cried. It was the more most horrific experience of my life. I never want to go down the road again so December 09 marks when I was completely natural again. So if you follow me, my last relaxin was in JAMA 09, which means this January just made three years that I was completely relax or free and December. This past December made two years that I was completely natural, so three years without a relaxer and two years completely natural, and this is where I am today so okay enough about my history like okay. So the purpose of this video is um, I'm not sure. If many of you know about the the world's next top natural hair model competition, it's a big event - that's held in Atlanta Georgia every year, but anyway, so I submitted my application and photos and whatnot to the competition, and I got a call today that I am In the top 15, how exciting - and this is like great for me because, like okay, so everybody knows they're, like I'm an advocate of natural hair - I love natural hair. I mean I love to embrace it. I just I just love everything about it and if you know me, then there's probably been one point in time that I've probably tried to encourage you or motivate you or push ways you or whatever possible to you know. Could you go down the natural route and I love to give advice and help people by giving them tips or whatever I can to you know ensure that they have a smooth journey if they do decide to go down here out. So, as you can see, this is was like a big deal to me and I was excited. I was just ecstatic. I was just overjoyed so yeah, so here I am top 15 and the next part of the process is the we have to do a top. The top 15 has to compete in online contest, so basically how that works is we have to basically campaign or get friends family, whoever to go to the website and actually vote for us and the top four candidates with the highest amount of votes will go on To be the top four finalists in the actual conference or convention the weekend of April twenty-eighth in a land of Georgia, so they will attend the crowning ceremony and compete for the crown of 2013's world mixed natural top here model. Well, that's a mouthful but yeah! So yeah so I mean it was great to get to the top 15 I mean, but we all know whenever you do something you want to do it wholeheartedly. You want to go the whole way of course, so it would be nice. I mean it will be. Such a blessing to make the top four in eventually you know even take home, the crown you know who knows but, like I see it, I need your support if I need your votes so with that being said, I'm going to, we have to submit a photo For like promotional purposes, and it's going to be posted on the page to which you guys will vote for so I was thinking of okay. I have to do instead of submitting a photo that i've previously taken. I wanted to start over and do a fresh style. A freshman look whatever, so the style that i'm going to do is the bantu knots i'm going to do been three nights in the front like this front section here in then two strand twists in the back. You can see I've already done some your kind of dry because I get them earlier - was tired, but yeah. So the two strand twists in the bag and the goal is to have I'm going to do the twist out and kind of have the big twist out in the back and then the best knives like in the front. So I envisioned this to be a cute style, but I mean, as we all know, you can envision one style to be one way: wake up the next morning and it's a complete disaster, but I'm actually praying that. That'S not the case yeah. So um. That'S the plan and that's the goal. I hope these hairstyles turns out nice and i hope you guys didn't get too bored by this 10 minute, almost eleven minute introduction of me talking but um yeah. So i want to go ahead and show you. I took a piece down to show you how I do my twist well. First, let me show you the products that are used. Um yeah, I have your handy-dandy water spray bottle. This is just I normally mix it up with some precaution of oils and water, but today I just kept it simple: put water in it, and this is shaving moistures. Hmm, you can't really see it. I don't think mmm. What is the shaving moisture is curling souple um. I'Ve heard great things about shame, oysters products, and I wanted to try this, but I don't like the way it feels on my hair. It just feels yucky, so I do use it to do some of my twist, but then I switch to my normal shea shea butter. It'S a shea butter by a Wonderbra there. You see shea butter, wondergirl hearing body, one hundred percent, better okay, handy-dandy rat tail comb. This is going to be used to do the parts for the van tonight and my 8 ounce five jar of eco styler gel. This is a staple like this is a must-have. It'S awesome, it doesn't flake, it's lightweight, it leaves a nice shine and shine and whatever you may call it is awesome, that's what i call it yeah. So those are the products that i'm going to use to complete this hairstyle so again on to the two strands. With that, i did my hair dryers are really really fast. So that's why I have to keep up water bottle on day. So this is my actual um scratched out yeah, which I mean considering that had to start all over it's actually. I don't know if you can see it, but it's actually a pretty nice link, it's about armpit length, but i Jes every time I have flashbacks of the relaxer thing is just like devastating, because i'm thinking the three years of growth that i had prior to having To get the big chop, Plus this three years of growth, which would have been like six years, I could have been like me back length right now, but I mean I can't complain, I'm back to where it to where I was prior to get a relaxer, and You know it's healthy and it'll, get there again so yeah. So this is the twist you can see it, so you just take the twist. I'M pretty sure you all know how to do a basic two strand twist, but for those of you who, don't you just split the two strands of hair separately and dangerous proceed to twist, I like to do I'm pretty tight so I'll, take it and push it Up and continue to do that until I get to the bottom and then just continue to twist twist twist twist twist twist. Ok
