Hey angels, i hope you're having a great day so far and if you're new, here hello and welcome my name is lola kate. Thank you for joining me. So in today's video i'm going to show you an easy to follow hair hack to trim or cut the ends of your hair, blunt, okay, so first of all, this certainly is not the way that i cut hair in the salon, but this hair hack does actually Work, if you follow the steps correctly i'll, just go through now and talk about the things you're going to need. So the first thing is scissors hair scissors, not craft scissors or kitchen scissors, because they will do more damage than good to the ends of your hair. So if that's all you have, then i don't recommend trying this. The next thing you're going to need is some combs, so i've got a comb for cutting and then i also have a tail comb to help. You part a paddle brush or any brush, but i'm just using this one here and the next thing you're going to need are some hair ties and also an elastic optional. But i prefer these at the end of the hair. I'Ll show you what i mean and a handheld mirror, so you can see what you're doing see, how the back's going very important. So i've already washed and blow dried, my hair straight, which is what we're going to need for today. So we can see exactly where we're cutting, and so we can also see exactly how the hair is sitting. If you have wavy or curly hair. I definitely recommend straightening your hair before you try this hack, okay. So let's get started. Okay, so first i need to assess the current shape of my hair from the last haircut. I do have long layers around the face and throughout the back, which i am growing out at the back. The ends of my hair are quite textured and we have a rounded shape on the bottom, which will be coming up today for more of a clean, blunt line. So the first step is to thoroughly brush all of the hair back and down flat into the same direction. Next, we smooth the hair down and flat into a low ponytail and as low to the back of the hairline as possible and in the middle once it is completely smooth and flat. I then use my first hair tie to secure the ponytail in place. Next, i add a second hair tie just below the first one and keeping it as neat and as flat as possible. I then add a third hair tie below this second one, and what this does is it keeps the hair in the same direction and creates even tension to the ponytail. Next, i'm adding an elastic to the ends which are thin in comparison to the rest of the ponytail, which is why i prefer an elastic because it won't slip out if you do have longer hair than what i do. I do recommend using more hair ties than what i have today, so just choosing how much i want to cut off today and i can adjust the hair ties or elastic to whatever length i like i'm going with the last one and i'm just going to cut On top of the last elastic just clean and blunt straight across okay and now with the mini pony that goes straight into the bin. Next, we remove all of the hair ties and we are now just going to have a look at the shape of the hair. So it's good! We have all of that length off so with the shape at the moment, both of these sides will be longer than the center of the hair, so the center of the hair is going to be the guideline, which is what the final length of the overall haircut Will be so with my tail comb now i am parting, the hair straight down the center, and now we have two sections here so starting off with this side. First, from the top of the head to the back of the ear with my tail comb, i am now creating another part: combing my hair down flat with that first section and adding in a hair, tie nice and low and then picking up that back section of Hair and creating another low ponytail, and now i'm just going to do the same thing for the other side. So if your hair is not layered around the face, like my hair is then your two front ponytails will be longer than what mine are, which just means that you'll be cutting more hair around the front than i am today. But it is still the same process and that's a total of four ponytails. So i'm just going to zoom you in closer okay, so picking up the back ponytail and finding my guide, which is the shortest section of hair in the ponytail. So now, starting to point, cut into the longer end of that section to bring it up closer to the guide, which is the shortest piece of that section. So with point cutting, it is holding your scissors directly up and not on an angle and slowly chipping away at the extra length, rather than holding your scissors horizontal and cutting your hair across blunt with point. Cutting it's a lot more precise when we are cutting our own hair. It'S also really good for removing split ends and it's sitting a lot softer. Those ends are not going to be bulky and harsh. It'S going to sit nice and flush and once we're happy with the length, i now start to work on the first ponytail, which is in front of the hair and i'm just lining it up and using the ponytail behind as my guide and just blending it up Together now using my hands to smooth the hair down with some tension, so i can see any hairs that i have missed and just check. If i need to lighten up a few pieces - and this section in here is still too long and too heavy on the ends, so i am continuing to point cut until it blends up with the line now with the back ponytail. I am now combing all of the hair in the opposite direction and, as you can see, i have a lot of stray hairs that are coming through from underneath the hair, and i am continuing to point cut into the longer strands until they blend up into the Solid line that we are creating and now i'm just going to pop my head back that way, i can check for any strays that i have missed from underneath. If so, just point cut. Okay, now i am measuring and mapping out the other side that we are now about to start on. So, as you can see, we have the guide, which is the shortest piece, so that corner needs to come off. But i'm also making sure that i use the other side that we've just cut as a guide as well. So now, working with two guidelines and just measuring up and mapping up exactly what needs to come off so that both sides are exactly level okay and i am doing exactly the same thing on this side. It'S just that. I'M starting to cut at the front of the hair rather than starting from the back ponytail, and that's just so. I can balance both of the sides together, so they're both level with each other. So once i have finished cutting the other side, i then check that the length is exactly where i like it now just taking out two of the ponytails. So i can work on this half of the head. First, just combing my head down and checking that i haven't missed anything and that both of those sections are blending in together, just stretching my head up and to the side so that anything from underneath that i've missed is going to come through now. So i can point cut it: okay and now i'm just going to comb all of my hair from the back and the front all the way to the side and we're going to start straightening up that edge. So this is now where, if i need to very lightly, i can cut across blunt if i need to or just point cut any little bits that are not blending in with the clean line and i'm just going to repeat the same thing for the other side. So stretching my neck at different angles. That way everything from underneath that is not level is going to show through now, i'm also just using my hands to help smooth the hair down, and also just to give me some extra tension. While i check that bottom line so once i have checked each side, i'm now going to hold my head straight, hold my scissors, horizontal and clean up the blunt line. So once i have finished cleaning up the front area, i like to do one final check by popping my head all the way back and combing all of my hair to the front and just checking for any stray hairs that i have left and then what i Like to do is comb my hair all the way back and make sure that it is nice and even and i'm pretty happy with the length. Cassidy Christine: I’m a hairstylist too and I love how in-depth you take this tutorial to help people at home! Great job.

Janelle Lewis: This was amazing! My hair looks sooo good! I didn’t expect it to be that easy. Every other tutorial I’ve tried wasn’t even close to as perfect and easy as this was! Thank you so much!

Paula: Thank you: this helps me massively. So clear and professional, yet not intimidating or full of nonsense, not pretentious. This has taught me how to cut my own hair and it looks a million times better: thank you.

Belkys M Cabrera: I am just amazed at how you’ve gone so blonde and still maintained healthy looking hair

Sophia: Thanks so much for this tutorial!! I’ve been so scared to cut my own hair for years after bad experiences and I just did it!! I’m so happy and it’s straight across! Love and light to you❤️

Lisa S.: Thank you so much for this! My hair is pretty messed up due to years of coloring etc but that turned out better than I expected and it's so easy!! Thank you ❤️

Vanessa Kay: Yall, THIS WORKS! Never in my life have I cut my own hair, did not want to spend 40 dollars for a simple blunt cut of dead ends. Just make sure your hair is as bone straight as possible!

Blessed Life, Love, and Faith.: Thank you so much! I'll definitely give this a chance. The tutorial is easy to follow and it's just what I'm looking for. I have gotten layers on my wavy, thick hair and absolutely disliking it at the moment. Update: I love how it turned out! It took off the bulky layers. Thank you so much. I have to grow my hair a bit longer to have it even, but I'm so happy with the result. God bless, be safe and stay healthy.

Julia: Thank you so much for this tutorial!! First time cutting my own hair and it turned out almost perfect

Alex ilk: Thank you for the easy to follow tutorial! I've been feeling weighed down by my dead ends for awhile now (Haven't been to a salon in 4 years) but this method worked wonderfully for my hair and i'm feeling a lot happier.

fashion chalet: Just tried this wow thanks! I wanted to trim off a good 4 inches or so of dry hair and WOW what a difference and so EASY. I will have my husband check the back just in case i missed a few pieces but from the mirror I placed in front of me to check the back mirror view with, it looked 99% spot on! THANKS! You saved me $40!

Kassie Johnson: Wow this is amazing! Just ordered my scissors, definitely want to try doing it at home in the future :) Thank you so much for explaining it so well and nicely

Norma Jean: Best haircut I've ever got! first time i didn't chop too much off the ends. I usually screw it up, or the stylist does, but this one was perfect! Thank youuuu!!!! ❣❣❣❣

Haaland McIntire: This worked beautifully. It came out perfectly straight in the back the first time. I’ve tried countless other self tutorials and this by far is #1. Thank you for sharing!

Katieboo: So helpful, literally exact same cut and length even blonde as myself so that’s made it easy!

Michele Broughton: Great video.....hadn't cut my hair since Covid started....today I followed your instructions and the result is absolutely amazing....thank you so much :)

Frida Lundqvist: This was the best and easiest video I could find on how to cut my straight hair at home. I have done it for years but the last time I cut my hair was about 4 years ago and 2 days ago it didn't go as well as it usually goes when I've cut it before and it still look a bit uneven in some parts but today I did this and it came out perfect! Thankyou for sharing your tips!

Alyssa Donaldson: I have 2c/3a hair and I did this while it was wet, I wasn’t really too scared of messing up since my curls hide the mistakes, but there wasn’t any! At least to me & my bf’s eye. Im trying to get rid of my layers since they cause my curls to look stringy at the bottom & This was a great tutorial to achieve exactly that

Katharina Murray: This is fantastic! Your hair is so beautiful. I have been cutting my hair for a few years now using different techniques. This is the best video I have come across so far. Thank you for uploading.

Katie Maxwell: This was so easy to follow! Thank you so much ❤️

Sundoll Ema: thank you so much just finished my hair the final look is so good! wow! it worked for me! thank you in advance❤️ you rock girl!

Ashley Brown: I wouldn’t try it myself but you gave great instruction in the video and that was an amazing trim! It turned out beautifully!

Ani Cordova: Oh this saved my hair!! Thank you so much :3 so I've always had my hair in layers because I have wavy hair and it just looked better in layers but ever since I bleached it, my ends have been breaking and thinning out and I hated how it looked and I wanted my hair to look a bit thicker This totally did it without having to cut half of my hair off :3

Frances Margaret: Thank you for this, I've been waiting for a blunt thick hair tutorial for years! Do you do your own thinning and or subtle layering yourself? It would be great to see how to achieve that as well, my hair is so hard to maintain. Hairdressers won't thin it.

April Kendell: A few weeks ago I followed your tutorial and messed up my hair. It was my own fault for not following directions. Today I tried it again to correct my mistakes and it turned out great! Thank you so much!!! Follow directions, people!

Shantel Santiago: Thank you sooo much for this tutorial totally just used it and chopped my long hair to medium length just now. Happy with the results.

Sabrina1094: Thank you for this. I just attempted to do this in my bathroom, with kitchen scissors & thanks to ur technique it’s came out much better than expected.

TwistedBarbie: So well done and easy to follow. This may actually work for my hair and I'm going to give it a go. Your hair is so silky though, mine is a bird's nest right now. I'm about to cut a load of length off and dye it, need some hair TLC badly! Thank you for this video.

Tam Zakir: OMG I WAS SO SCARED to chop that first little pony. THE RESULTS SHOOK ME! thanks so much for this little hack! my hair is now blunt straight and i can't believe how easy this was

Leah M: This guide is great! So helpful, thank you so much ❤️❤️

Plasma Phantom: Hi Lola, thank you sooo much for your video! I just succeeded in cutting my hair by myself for the first time in my life, and from now on, I can save lots of money. I did not try to cut my hair thinner at the ends, because I think that my hair is looking better like that. But it is surely a great hack for getting a different look, if you like it.

M. Zaf: This works! I just trimmed my hair blunt! Came across this video and ran to my mirror to try it n was absolutely amazed that it worked just right for me. If you try this, just make sure that your hair are as straight as possible. Brush well and secure them in hair ties just like she did in the video!! I saved me some euros lol for a simple trim for dead ends! Kudos for this video!!!

judy dunn: I wanna try this so bad! My fine hair is getting so stringy at the ends. But I’m terrified to do the point cutting. You make it look so easy and I know my cuts won’t be that clean and precise. Great tutorial!

miffin smyth: love it ive been cutting my own hair for years the same as you but without the bands ...so i will try that next time xx thank you

Yasi Robe: I have used your tutorial to cut my hair off and use the bunch for an artwork that I'm creating. The result is fantastic! My hair (I mean the hair on my head ) looks so good! So neat! Thank u so much ❤

Chan H: So thick and healthy. I think this is something I can try

za za tomy: Your hair looks amazing considering it is bleached

NADA: Thank you! This worked out great and I only needed help from my husband for a teeny finally check!❤️

amy moffitt: Did this today, was a little nervous but turned out well! Thank you!

Li Pi: If you have thick az curly hair... this works!!! My hair is waist length and so thick that sometimes people think Im wearing a wig or have weaves on lol and its mad curly so I straightened my hair for this, and followed through with instructions carefully and man it looks so good! So proud of me and props to this video man thanks x

Sherry Wortman: Great video, just watch where you bleached your hair as well. I've never seen anyone use 2 different volumes of developer at the same time like you did. I really like that idea and the finished result was amazing. I really liked the color, everyone wants that platinum color now and it's just so over done.

Alesia Mills: Thank you so much for the hair cutting tutorial. I've been using this method over the years. I'm an ex hairstylist as well and I do not like to go to the salon. I am an African American relaxed hair woman and this method is true and tried.

7tracey7: Been cutting my own hair for a few years. It's been hit & miss. Watched lots of videos over last 2 years but often end up confused & go my own way! I have a fringe & do try to put a few layers in too. Think your video is best I've seen & am going to try his weekend. Can't wait! It's very long & straggly at the moment

Abby Butcher: Great video! I tried this and I like this method. I’ve been cutting my own hair for years and I like to try different methods and styles. I’ll probably do this one again.

Lena Craib: Thank you so much for this video, such a huge help x

Katie Fernandez: I have been growing out a pixie for a year now, i need to trim my ends. Your hair is beautiful! I cant wait to have mine that long again!

Deb E: Thank you for your clear instructions

Jessica De Leon: Just did it and it came out great

Leandria Bowlin: Did this and went to my stylist to touch it up incase I messed up in places that were hard to see. She said it was absolutely perfect. She didn’t touch my hair with scissors and just did my normal olaplex treatment. You’ve saved my bank account

Sherry C: Thank you so much for the tutorial it really helps and I appreciate it

Tovah: I have SOOOO much RESPECT for you that you DID NOT say the word “Unicorn” or show the “Unicorn ponytail haircut” or ANYTHING THAT has to do with a friggin UNICORN. Last I checked with ANY Stylist, NOTHING that has to do with a friggin UNICORN was EVER Taught to them in School!!! THIS MAKES SENSE and actually WORKS and turns out PERFECTLY!!!!! Excellent and new SUB!! ♥️♥️♥️

Julia Lewis: This helped me so much ! Thank you !!!

Samantha Flatt: This is the best explained video on a diy haircut I’ve seen!! Thank you!!

Nuzhat Faizah: This was really helpful! Thank you!

Hongy Anh Tu Luong: Thanks for a great informative video, deffo Tring this out on trim day ❤️

Kelly Links: Thanks for the helpful tutorial, I'm definitely using this hack more often

Sheba Lewis: This was great! I just did it on shorter hair and it worked! My only difference was I did not cut going in, I just cut it straight across because I have thin hair! Thanks!

Lucie: This was the best video I’ve watched so far on my (long) journey to cutting my own hair .....I just need to get brave and do it!!!

Gabby W: You just saved me $40, it worked so well, thanks so much!

Andreea Ilie: Really well explained...this tutorial makes hair cutting much more easy

Digitalhunny: I usually just wash my hair & get one of my kids to cut it. It's only hair it grows back. The thing is that they're _so_ scared to screw it up (way more than I ) that _they_ have always done a _really_ great job!! I started training them to trim the very back of my hair, at around the age of 7 for my daughter & 9 for my son. My daughter is fantastic at it now days, well she's got 16 years of experience under her belt! Thanks for this video. We're in a complete lock down for 6 weeks right now. & I'm all by my lonesome self.... & bored Have a great day y'all.

VichyGlitterGun: This is the best guide I have seen!!! Thank you so much <3

A A: Okay so I did this and it turned out really good! I think I cut off more than I wanted so be careful with that guys, but otherwise a fantastic tutorial!

sereniti bradley: This was so easy and worked perfectly! Just want my black sisters with natural hair to know that this really works. My hair is super long and thick and now it looks so much healthier after this good trim.

lizzy clavin: thank you so much!!! i hate paying $30 just to get my dead ends cut off, this seriously works and my hair feels amazing!

Hayley White: My hair is shorter than your by a lil plus I wanted an inch and half off it well didn’t want to risk too much so I walked my mum through a basic blunt cut and told her to leave everything else to me I then used you method as I love a good point cut, it worked really well I also framed my face a bit I already had framing similar to yours but mine Needed those ends off too so shorter thanks for this video as we’ve only just come out of lockdown, I had to get away from an abusive bf while I didn’t want to leave my stepchild, my mental health has been so strained my psychologists on leave and with family health troubles on my back this has really helped me bring some life back to my eyes. Also it’s refreshing to find a prProfessional and interesting Australian YouTuber thank you again

Klaudia: Got to the part where you make the first cut and I chickened out! My hair is already blunt, making the ends super thick, so I was worried it would of been hard to cut it straight just wanted to do a little refresh

Zeddora Fox: This was so helpful ! Thank you

Deepti G: Love it! Definitely want to see how you cut your face framing layers since they're perfect too! <3

K: Be daring, shave it awf, find out your natural hair color! Great techniques! Makes it easy for all!

Urbanista Coco: Thank you so much!!!! Your tutorial helped me give myself the perfect professional looking cut at home.

Pure Heart: This is perfect for me and I can't wait to try it. I am the type that can't stand salons because I am rarely satisfied. I am so aware of my hair that I know when stylists aren't spreading products through my hair appropriately and that's just rude and lazy. My haircuts have suffered greatly because of my refusal to see a professional. Thank you so much!!

Damariz Malo: Amazing! I just got a haircut by a hair stylist and It’s uneven! Like what? You know as hairdressers this is not ok I’ve should’ve cut it myself

Mariah Pradhan: Thank you I cut my hair myself following your step and it was not bad

S R: Very good tutorial! I am a perfectionist and I am impressed!!!

FE COT: Thank you I used your technique and I love it because it does work and it was

ferosa89: Usually I’m like lefthanded of both sides but I just did this haircut to me and it turned out very very good. No difference noticeable in comparison of my hair dresser does mine.

Keilee Spencer: Thanks for this!! Gonna try it. Also, you should do a video on what products you use for your hair, because it’s absolutely BEAUTIFUL and so healthy looking!

Damaris: I have a lot of hair and very thick.... It did take me longer. But with a lot of patience it came out great!!!! Thank you for this video. I never liked going to a salon and spending so much for a simple hair cut. I go once a year because of that... now I can trim my own hair every few months.

Angeline Biswas: Wow you should be an educator in hair you’re really good at explaining! Would love to see some of your work

UnlimitedOne: This video was extremely helpful. Thank so much.

Janet B: thanks i accidentally blunt cut my hair and thought that i did something wrong but its a thing! these tips will help the stray hairs I missed (four ponytails).

Rachel Baldwin: My thoughts? You are freaking amazing and I'm litrally wanting to try this and cut my own hair now xD <3
