Ever wondered how they made Elsa's hair in Frozen? Tune in September 2 at 8pm on ABC to go behind the scenes, get a glimpse at the next chapter for the characters, and see an exclusive sneak peek of Big Hero 6!

Viewers will get a rare look inside Walt Disney Animation Studios and unprecedented access to the creative team that brought “Frozen” to life. Throughout the one-hour special, the audience will hear from “Frozen” stars Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, the directors, songwriters, producer, artists and chief creative officer John Lasseter—the team who dreamed of making a cherished Hans Christian Andersen story into a big-screen animated musical. Viewers will take a journey to the beautiful Norwegian villages and landscapes that inspired the look of the fictional kingdom of Arendelle and see images and footage from the research trips to Norway, Quebec and points beyond that helped create the film’s unforgettable look and feel.

This special will also include some exciting announcements about the next chapter of “Frozen” and a never-before-seen preview of “Frozen” characters Anna, Elsa and Kristoff on an upcoming episode of ABC’s smash-hit “Once Upon a Time.”

The program will culminate in an exclusive sneak peek at the action-packed comedy-adventure “Big Hero 6,” currently in production at Walt Disney Animation Studios –under wraps until now – as the team prepares their next big-screen epic.

“The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic” is hosted by star Josh Gad (voice of Olaf) and features interviews with “Frozen” stars Kristen Bell (voice of Anna) and Idina Menzel (voice of Elsa) as well as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer and “Frozen” executive producer John Lasseter, Academy Award®-winning filmmakers, including directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, producer Peter Del Vecho, and songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. This one-hour special will also feature exclusive insights and commentary from art director Mike Giaimo and talented artists from the art direction, animation and effects teams. The exclusive sneak peek of “Big Hero 6” is presented by the film’s directors, Don Hall and Chris Williams.

Very early on John Lasseter had already had specific notes on how the hair would come down a kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the queen when it's all buttoned up. You can think about how she is she's, controlled, she's, she's, keeping her feelings and emotions in check, so her magic doesn't come out. I felt that way when I was a kid. I had this voice and I didn't want to show it off at school and I didn't want to seem like I was conceited or bragging, so I would hide it all. The time conceal, don't feel don't let them know. So I completely related to this character. Wayne and I basically spoke back and forth from drawings, essentially on how to get the biggest statement possible, really make it a great glorious moment for Elsa letting your hair down, there's a meaning behind that. So that moment, when she pulls the braid down in the song, we wanted to have the most contrast that we possibly could that it would that it would have the most impact. It would be a statement in its own and I think when you finally have that moment, when you can just say you know, I'm going to stop caring about what people think and I'm going to be my truest self. It'S so liberating. I think we all relate to the song. I think the reason why this song has become such a phenomenon is because it's not just about girls, it's about everyone and that part of us inside that we might hide or conceal, because we're afraid of our own power Cole never bothered me anyway.

Aiyori: I love this movie and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who cried from the lyrics and the incredible strength of Let It Go the first time I saw that scene. It sucks that some people find Elsa's transformation sexist. I mean, did they even watch this movie? I've always thought of it as a Metaphor. She hides her true self deep inside while physically her appearance is, well, basically her entire body from the chin down is covered. Yet when she lets her hair down and embraces her true self, her appearance is the opposite of her former, much more conservative, shy look. In a word: Fearless.

Chunni Lal: Of course, I know it has a meaning. I actually saw this video today but I got to understand this thing about her hair after Frozen 2. In childhood, she was bounded by a little responsibility but more fun. But then accident happened and changed her life forever! She kept her hair tight. From inside also, she felt her self so bounded by fears and disappointment. But she had very much of courage and Anna kept giving little token of love throughout ( as shown in Olaf's Frozen Adventure) Then came responsibility! So, that night after the fight she ran away certainly not because of responsibilities but cuz she was afraid to hurt anyone. Then she used her powers freely after a really long time. Built adorable Olaf, her iconic dress and the magnificent castle. So, she found herself free from before. As she got free to many of her fears, she turned it into braids. Then everything turned right, or seemed so. She was happy but found herself still a little bounded. There was absolutely no way she could use her powers in the best way. Why did she had it? So, when the siren called her and she reached there and got to know she is the 5th spirit, the first end of the bridge, when she got to Ahtahollan, to know everything about her, she found herself totally and truly free. So, there were now able to wave in the air freely. Her hair has always shown what's going inside her. Anna's hair didn't matter much. And it is to say, if any other person like me was in her place, I probably would have committed suicide because of all the blames she got, all the fears, all that disappointment and the loneliness over years, over a person's BEST YEARS! The childhood! Really, I don't know if it is really so, but I think sometimes my love for Elsa is comparable to Anna's. Sorry, Anna!❄❄❄❤❄❤❤❤❄

Angela Blue: I really love Elsa's hair :3

Eviiana: Well the final design of her hair is perfect and everyone behind it is a genius.

Emilio Santiago Alvarez: I needed to hear this right now in my life. I never thought I'd say this, but Disney has helped me get through some hard times. Happy 2015 to all!

petite alby: Cant wait!!! Also is amazing to see someone like Brittney Lee talking in the making. Its amazing, I've been following since forever when she was not even on Disney :)

Zea Wong: i agree with Idina's point of view about the song. I still remember the first time I listened to it in the cinema, I teared up so badly pffff xD

MAX CANON STUNNER: And now they made her hair even more perfect.

Rebecca Mackey: Haven't seen the movie but love the lyrics to the soundtrack. Can't wait to see the movie. I can relate to Elsa in many ways being an outsider and not fitting in like Idina Menzel and like Elphaba.

Davion Blackwing: Her hair is fabulous, I absolutely love it.

TK984: I got goosebumps during this. I loved Idinas advice on how to just let your personality shown. Personally I worry so much about being broken because of my personality (too nice) but from now on Im just going to be myself. I wont worry about people judging me based on my appearance, weight, race, beliefs or even intelligence because I know that I need to stay true to myself if I want others to do the same :)

Lets Mash It Up!: I thought this video was gonna be about how her hair goes trough her arm

Luli Nasser: I wish they had discussed more about the animation technical aspects instead of the psychological aspects of the hair. :(

N K: Taking a deeper look at Elsa's character, I find her very inspirational

Paty Valentine: Frozen should win an Oscar for most  "Best Female Character Animation" for Elsa.  Sorry for other fans, but for me Elsa is a perfect character.

문 가영Moon Gayong: Loved the video and I also loved that they mentioned once upon a time in the description. Thanks Disney

Callme Rachel: I love Elsa :D Disney's most beautiful character imo :) Not that their other female characters don't have beauty in them but they really did a great job with her.

Emerald Storm the Foxy Pirate: It really is a powerful statement for Elsa to literally and figuratively let her hair down. Bravo!

Toon Link: This is amazing. When I was a kid, my hair was always crazy, just like my personality, then during puberty and my preteen years, i wore my hair in a permanent ponytail and hid my artistic talent/personality from the outside world, until higheschool took me in and helped me "let it go", and it's funny because the moment i let my hair down for the first time, everything just burst out of me 1-by-1. Now I'm a young adult, and I'm never going back.the past is in the past!

jeramahia123: Damn, that song just feels like a huge gush of wind through my chest. I love it!

Forever Jordan: This is my favorite part of the song <3

- AngeloVergil -: Just magnificent work!!

J.P.: 1:24 The hair just passed through her body.

ChrisPrime1bot: Hooray for the appearance of Brittney Lee! :D I really hope to get a copy of A Sister more Like Me in the near future.

Ebony B.: I love Elsa. I love Frozen :')

Mia Moon: The hair scene is probably my favorite part. When I listen to Let it Go, I wait for that part.

Albatroz1: I love the movie :D

Dominus Centurio: 1:24 is the best scene in Let it Go :D

rosa flores: This movie is awesome !

AeroBlaze777: I feel like we're going to keep getting these types of videos for a while now, and then everyone's going to be all obsessed with this movie again.

Roshan Emannuel: I started watching Frozen when I was 6 years old (2014) and I am 13 years old now (2021) but I still watch Frozen because I am a huge Disney animation fan

Erin F: Oh my goodness, Idina, that's exactly what I was thinking! (Well not the voice part, I can't sing). But I loved when she let her hair down. Cheers!

Queen Elsa: Idina Menzel <3

Fernando Yanmar: is it just me or even the shape of her head changes from the beginning to the end of the scene? looking at her in the final shot and at when anna meets her is totally like we are looking at two different women

Elizabeth: how do they make her hair from a bun to a braid?!

Mohammed Omar: 1:24 is the best part

eggsous: Well, we all know, drawing Elsa's hair is one of the hardest things you can do o - o

Savage: Her hair went through the shoulder in the let it go castle seen

L Locke: I still found the final hairstyle too neat. Some of those older versions looked much wilder.

McLaineAC: And they really over done it ^.^ <3 and it comes out over perfect!!!

Вова Зацарный: God, I love Frozen and Elsa. Best animated character. Want Frozen 2 with her! Love you Elsa).

Shelby Waymire: i got chills from this beauty.

Kanchide: The cutting and/or releasing of hair was a usual happening in female lead characters of Hayao Miyazaki's movies marking the point where they gain confidence or survive a deadly trial. Perhaps Lasseter was making an homage. He's a fan and friend of Miyazaki.

Mario Hiccup Witwicky: Elsa's hair made me fall in love with her.

Afolabi Bukola: I need to let go all my grudges with the blights on Frozen's writing. The story is not cohesive at all and Elsa just ran away from all her problems, never once facing them head on. And people say she's braver and more badass than Mulan??? This movie is visually stunning and pleasing to the ear. I need to watch it with my brain off like I did the first time. It's admittedly wonderful entertainment as long as I turn my brain off :D

Kahena Arnoux: I love Let It Go❄️

John Ibarra: 100% of the comments- How did her hair pass through her arm?

Elphieinthemaking: Let it go means so much to me and is close to my heart - the same for many people :) I have a condition called Turner Syndrome, and I am a beautiful, powerful lady.

Disney Doll Story: Interesting to find out about the story behind her hair.

Aegys TierOne: This should have been in the DVD.

Meg M: I love Idina Menzel's voice

Chloe Panter: I really like elsa and anna I think they should make a second one

Tweba Senoi: I like how they just let her hair pass through her left shoulder XD XP

Elisa Jean: Owh. I really want that hair style!

Omee Craft_: I love Idina Menzel. She is so beautiful and she has a very nice and powerfull voice. love you ;D

Adriana Sanchez: I love frozen!

Borak Kosong Podcast: Can't wait for full feature of 'The Story Of Frozen'..!

ryan burke: this is so so so my favorite Disney movie

Gacha tubers Suck: People say this movie is overrated But I like I I love every Disney movie And plus I love snow so yee

Allie Poop: Can you do a video on Anna, c: most of the Frozen related videos here are always about Elsa. x

Bruh: 1:29 the fabric area around her neck magically disappears.

Alice Li: How did that bun turn into those braids? That braid could not have come from that bun. All disney Princess hair is filled with magic.

Anu Radha: Who all love Elsa?❄️

Ghosty_Ghost: :O more frozen. Frozen 2 confirmed :P

Alesandros356: Yeah, if we could just get some more information about the upcoming big hero 6, instead of behind the scenes of a 1 year old movie that they are trying to keep hyped up. That would be great.

Jessica: it's funny how everyone has noticed this Elsa's braid error but almost no one saw Kristoff's backpack mysteriously disappearing during the scene where he and Anna first meet Olaf

Paul Gokai shadow Beem: I love this song

Unreeal: I was actually expecting an in-depth explanation of hair animation in the film. :(

kurthalover: Elsa is honestly one beautiful lady!

Fernando Yanmar: no matter how many times i rewatch it, i keep failing to see the 'hair glitch' everyone talks about

Oyun Hamuru TV: "Elsa Hair Story" Clip - The Story of Frozen #Frozen   #Elsa   #animation

Erin O'Halloran: Her hair DOES NOT go through her shoulder it goes OVER it it just appears to go through it!

Queen of Cutlets: I wonder if they made the hair clip instead of fold because of a limit in the animation or maybe, it ruined the flow of the scene? I'd really like to know. Because, if I had been the animator of this scene, I would've NEVER thought to do that, and hide it so smoothly.

Nikki H: Oh my god I'm laughing because I clicked on this thinking they were going to acknowledge how her hair "clipped" through her shoulder... That's what I thought the title meant.... I thought I was going to hear a story about how that happened oh my god

Dominique Docen: This wasn't even in the TV special, I was also expecting a little bit more from this special. But whatever I want more Big Hero 6!!! Okay Disney I think it's time for you to release another trailer, featuring all the characters speaking, with more about the story, heart, and ACTION! Like if you agree!

Enoch: Congratulations Disney you made Elsa's hair go through her own arm And that children is Disney's Logic

Rose Foley: I love frozen

Alexis Wee: does anyone else happen to notice that when she removed the bun her bangs magically moved back by themselves and stuck like that

XxFallenAmbitionxX: hey. what 3d program did disney use to animate that? :) it looked so cool~!

Lily Shimizu: I was hoping to see more on the animation of the hair itself...

Luis Aguilar: Muy bueno el video

Britt and Roxy Renee: Very inspiring Disney

Brenda Karen: @Monster Queen olha q massa ♥

Rael Empire: I'm surprised that they didn't mention her hair going through her arm when she put her braid down. I was expecting that.

VitaNaturAlis: It is true, we all have a side we sometimes "hide" or don´t know how to live with, but I think what moste people forget (also about this song) is that it is nothing noble about running away, like she did through this song. Her problems were not solved, they got worser. Pleas read http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294629/board/nest/228697028?ref_=tt_bd_2  Being really who you are means to be able to live with others. Face, accept, let it be, let time pass

Kanehtaikho: great movie

Stephen Denis: I'm here 6 years later after seeing her hair complete down

macabremodeon: The best part !!

Molly Foxe: But the thing is, after she puts her hair down, you can see the braid go through her left shoulder.

Kevin Lam: Awww.... I'm kinda disappointed. I thought they were gonna talk about the hair glitch :(

Devin R: It went through her shoulder from years of animating. Wtf disney

poop balls: i'm really love this song but it's been stuck in my head seince it ever came out

Nvfish: I thought they were gonna talk about... Y'know... Her hair sorta phasing through her shoulder!

Toys For Kids Worldwide: Wonderful video for girls!

Jack Buckley: speaking of Elsa's hair, did you notice that her hair passes through her arm?

TypeORedPill: I thought the climatic ending was oddly story boarded/sequenced/acted out (terminology?). *** SPOILER ALERT *** When Elsa is stricken with grief over Anna, why does she not look up when Anna appears behind her and yells, "NO!" ?  Surely she must have heard Anna's voice.  She doesn't react/open her eyes until after everything transpires.  Not plausible. Granted, the scene is complicated, but I would have done it differently: Anna freezes.  Elsa open her eyes to see Anna's hand next to her turning to ice. In slo-mo sword shatters against Anna's raised frozen hand.  Then close up of Elsa, in the act of turning around and flinching in reaction to the sword shattering/sword shards, gets up and realizes Anna's sacrifice.

Nua Luit: Why are you teasing us!. Just make a part 2, 3 and 4 already!

Kate: Did anyone else come here thinking they'd explain the whole hair going through her arm thing?

Shirwin Caballero: i saw the whole story of frozen just today at 7:00-8:00 at Disney Channel

TINA-CZ: Perfect
