What'S up rainbow heads welcome back to my channel? Today'S video is the second installment in my Halloween hair series. If this is not your first time here welcome back and if you're new hi, how are you my name is Caitlin Ford. I am a 10-year veteran hair. Stylist and an award-winning colorist, who specializes in really really weird hair color. So this whole series is all about taking really popular Halloween, looks and creating a hair look to go along with it. Today my costume is mermaid, as you can see, you get it cuz, I'm a mermaid, so today's look is kind of specific but a little not specific. At the same time, I've always really liked the mermaid makeup. So I decided to do a holographic mermaid, I'm back again with another hollow look, because I'm just a glutton for punishment for all those simply illogical fans, and just like I said in my original Halle video for all of you Christine and simply illogical fans. This is hollow inspired. It is not real hollow, there's no way to do actual hollow on hair, it's impossible. This is holographic inspired, that's the keyword inspired, so don't at me with all your not Hollow comments. I'Ve dressed this before! Thank you very much, but yeah. Here'S! My holographic mermaid and I'm gon na show you guys how I did this hair today so for this week I did not do the best lay down job on the edges. I also didn't fully cut into the lace like around my ears or anything like that, because I'm planning on giving this wig away at the end of my. So if you want to find out how to win this wig stick around to the end of the video. I am so pumped with how all this came out today, and I cannot wait to show you guys the tutorial, so let's go ahead and dive in unfortunately, again in this video. I do not have exact formulas. When I do wigs and mannequins, I always save my extra color. In fact, I actually use Tupperware containers as my color bowls, so that I can go ahead and cap them and store them for later. If I have anything extra because if you guys have done colorful hair before you know that these products can get very expensive and I hate wasting stuff, I mostly use leftover color from my rainbow hot roots, video. So if you're interested in those formulas go ahead and check out that video, I just took the leftover, color and diluted them with a little bit of white added a little bit more color here and there as needed. The white that I'm using to dilute these colors is trillion tones white, and these were the colors that I used today. My color palette is pink orange, yellow green blue violet and silver. In my original holo hair video, I explained that doing a whole head of holo is extremely time consuming, and I mentioned that you can save time by doing this technique as color blocking and just a small section of hair. So that's what I'm gon na show you guys here today. I already plan to style my leg with a side part, and I wanted kind of an asymmetrical pop of color in the front. So he took a diagonal section across the forehead, starting at the left side of my wigs hair line, extending back behind the ear to the name. Everything in this front section is going to get the holo treatment and everything else is going to get color gray. You guys can see I'm using this big foam mesh piece for my color today, which I actually saved from a package that was shipped to me meshes are actually made out of shipping material. So whenever I see a package that has this faux material in it, I always try to save it, because this size of mesh just does not exist in the pre-made pre-cut kind of form. So I always love getting these big pieces of mesh like this. I am also going ahead and applying this color to my wig, while it is wet just like I did in my pop art, hair video today, my mannequin was kind enough to volunteer for you guys to help demonstrate my placement, so I'm just shaving her down here. Really quickly, so you guys couldn't see what the sectioning was just like in several of my past few videos, I will be using a progressive placement. This look. I decorated my mannequin with a bunch of markers to help better show you guys this just like in several of my past few videos, I'm gon na be using a progressive placement for this look to do the hollow. This is pretty much exactly the way that I did the hollow in my last hollow hair video, as well as my rainbow root video, tell better demonstrate this. I went ahead and decorated my mannequins head with a bunch of markers so that you guys could see this placement a little bit better. Each color man that you guys see in this section represents each section in the color and, as I said earlier, I plan to part my wig on the side and because of this I wanted to make sure that the pink would be the very first color right At the point that the hair opens as a part - and you guys can see - I marked on my mannequins head where the part line fell, the size of your sections determines how thick the lines and your pattern are going to be. I wanted to do this with really thin lines, so I did a little pre-planning here to make sure that a pink stripe would end up hitting right across the part right in the front. So when the hair splits open at the part line, you get perfect rainbow order on both sides of the part line. I know I'm crazy. Just like a captain OCD hair over here, I started my first section using yellow and then continued down in rainbow order with green blue violet and then silver. I did my best to try and make sure that my lines were equal and evenly spaced and all of that fun stuff. I was doing this all by eye. Obviously so it's not 100 % perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how straight I was able to get these lines. But you know just do the best you can. The root of the hair is always much denser than the ends, so you can see here, I'm leaving the ends out for now, because they're so thin and wispy, it's almost a waste of time to color them right now, as you can see, as I take new Sections and get a little bit denser a little bit easier color and that's when I go ahead and hit them with color. You can also see that with taking my new section, I also end up with this gap at the top in the gap, I'm gon na go ahead and place the color that comes before the color I use previously. So if I'm going in rainbow order and my color that I used previously was yellow then according to the rainbow, I need to use orange in this next section. I know this is kind of like a mental puzzle and a hair color at the same time, but it really does work guys and with each new section, I'm laying it down against the section before it, which is gon na help to saturate your new section with Color saturation is key to getting really beautiful, even looking hair color from here we're going to continue progressing through our pattern, see that's why it's called progressive pattern placement until we finally reached the nape of the head, literally just repeating what we have already done over and Over and over again until you're finally finished, that is the name of the game with this kind of hair color. But for now please enjoy this moment of rainbow satisfaction, and here is our rainbow section fully applied. The color for the rest of this here is pretty simple: I'm using two different gray formulas, one light and one slightly darker. I personally always like to do a slightly darker route with any of my solid colors. I personally just like that. It'S a little bit of added dimension, even if it's on the more subtle side, when I do a route color, I like to apply my colors with a vertical sectioning vertical lines, help to take away visual weight. This is one of the fundamental rules of hair, so we'll end up with a nice soft transition between these two colors - and here is our color fully applied, and now it's time for a little bit of peel porn full disclosure. I have basically been working on this hair with every spare. Second that I have so. I ended up leaving the hollow section on overnight, and then I did the gray side the next morning and when you leave color on for such a long time like this, it starts to get kind of like solid and waxy. You can see barely any of it is coming off of my hands. Don'T worry if this happens to you. If the hair feels like hard, if it's been sitting there for a little while the color will still rinse off it's still water-soluble, it will still come off. Don'T worry so next, it's time to rinse with some cold water and we're gon na go ahead and skip shampooing to prevent any bleeding from happening. So just for funsies, let's do a little wet combing action, there's just nothing like some good ol wet combing. So now we're heading into blow-drying, if you're ever looking at a color like this and wondering how it was applied, just play with the hair different levels of elevation and find the point that the pattern appears, the strongest that's a pretty good indicator of where the hair Was positioned when the color was applied, you can see when I pulled the hair back in the direction that I was holding it when I applied it. I get these really strong, crispy rainbow bands happening today, I'm gon na be using this Amica chameleon wond set to style my wig. I was given this a while back when I did a campaign for Amica and I absolutely love this set. It'S really cool because you can change the barrel size depending on what you need. It'S definitely a great set if you're, a professional or, if you're, someone who likes to experiment with a lot of different styles and as you guys might have realized. I like to live life on the edge with my hands, so we're not going to use the heat protective glove today, I'm using a small tapered barrel and the smallest of the linear barrows, which I believe is about three quarters of an inch wide and for this Style, I am curling all the hair in the same direction for this type of vintagey curl. You really want to make sure that your curls go back away from the face on the light side of the part. So if you part your hair on the side, you want the curls to go away from the face on the side of the part where there is less hair, which means they will end up going towards the face. On the other side of the part, it's important to make sure that the hair has completely cooled down before you start brushing out the curls, because if you don't let the hair curl down those curls haven't completely set. Yet the way I've heard it described is you've. Seen a blacksmith kind of working with a piece of metal before they throw it into an oven and they get it really hot. And then they pound out the shape that they're wanting in the metal and then they plunge it into cold water. And that's what actually turns the metal hard and helps it to keep its shape. So that's the same thing that happens with hair. The bonds inside aren't fully solidified until the hair has completely cooled down. So, especially if you're someone whose hair tends to go limp with curls very easily, make sure that you don't brush your fingers through your hair or with a hairbrush or anything like that until the hair has completely cooled off. I sectioned off this small u-shaped section, the hairline on the heavy side of the part and switch to my three-quarter inch barrel and took diagonal sections towards the part curling each section, I'm using a Denman brush here to completely brush out my curls. Next, I'm using a tail comb to backcomb the curls. This helps to start form our waves and starts to sort of melt the curls together and gets rid of the seperation between each curl and then the next part is going to be all about sculpting, our style out of the curl set that we just did and Refining any flyaways getting rid of the frizz, I'm using my tail comb here and hairspray to manipulate the curls into the shape that I want and then I'm pinning my waves into place with duckbill clips and the indented parts of the ways I really like to use. My hair spray can to kind of tame those flyaways and shape the indents, and also today, I'm using the color Wow hair spray. Here then, I threw my wig on and I was ready for my deep sea adventure. I am really really happy with how those came out. I I feel like what would happen if Lady Gaga and Ariel got together and had a baby. I think this would be that baby. Well, that's all I have for you guys today. It is now one o'clock in the morning here and I have to take this off, so I can get ready to go to work tomorrow. I just like don't even want to take it off coz I like it so much. I hope you guys liked it too. If you did, please drop me a comment down below. Let me know what you guys thought about this video, what you thought about the look like if there's something you want to see. If you have a question, if I didn't explain something long enough, please let me know if not, that on youtube for very long, I'm still in the process of growing and learning and changing and evolving, and all of that fun stuff see your guys's feedback helps me Out so much don't forget to leave me a thumbs up hit the subscribe button if you're into weird hair stuff, because I will be doing more here - weird hair stuff - don't you worry more is coming there's an endless supply of weirdness in this one, crazy human being.
