#MydentityColorbyGuyTang

We'Re on yes, I've been waiting for a girl like you to come into my life, everybody I'm here with Heather and she's gon na be my motel today we're gon na. Do some midnight rose color on her and, what's very special about her, is she's Vietnamese too, like me, so tell us a little bit about yourself. Take it away. We all need to know yes, so my name is Heather. I was born with dark hair, so today guy told me, I'm gon na be going for a midnight rose color, so I'm super nervous a little bit excited to your part time mowing right, yes, and I'm also a health professional as my day job. So you have to kind of stay in Mason, boring, boring or your natural hair color. I feel I feel like that's not fair, like everybody else gets the color in her hair, but you're like a certain ethnicity, didn't know you need to be authentic. You need to stay, not venting and that's not right. I wear color different colored contacts. I changed my hair color up and I think you should be Ulta to write angry. We got ta break stereotypes, there's so many 0s yeah stereotypes is not sexy. Okay, so we got to move forward, give you some new colors, I'm gon na make you sit down and we're gon na make you break stereotypes. They want you to be like, like Mulan black, certain type of a certain type of hair. You know Asians come in different shapes and sizes too we're gon na move this chair up, so you guys get to take a good look at her and we're gon na start mixing the midnight Rose color, because sometimes we get a little too serious here all right. So let's get started on this, so I'm gon na use midnight Rose level-six on her, even though she has a lot of virgin hair going on throughout. Here I still have to level it so I like to use 10 volume at the root of, and I go into 20 or 30 volume and the reason why is because if you use 20 volume and just put that over her whole entire head, what's gon na Happen is she's gon na get like what we call hot roots or bright scalp and then also in the ends we get. You know not as much brightness so in order to level it, especially when doing Reds, you have to do 10 20 to be more dramatic. You could go from 10 to 30, so my first formula is 6mr. Midnight rose, I'm gon na mix. My first formulation here so we're gon na have about 50 grams and I'm gon na use my Danny 10 volume. Okay, I'm gon na be very anal of you. Guys right, it's very important to use the dedicate developer and the reason. Why is because it's designated to work with the color, because, if you're using different brands developer, they may have more buffers in them. And my buffers I mean like oils and emollients and all these extra stuff and what that can do is hinder the color deposit. No, I'm not trying to sell you the developer, I'm just telling the truth, because I work with the cameras and I tested multiple swatches with different developers with different brands using the same color and they all come out differently. I'M telling you this from a hair Bessy to another and you will see the same color tube, with different developer from different brands using the same ten-volume. They'Ll all come out differently. Trust me! So here we go. We'Re gon na mix it equal parts with the permanent color. You always mix it first with the whisk. This is gon na, be her muchas formula. I feel like it's important to with ash colors, to use like 20 volume on the scalp and then shift into a 30 volume just because sometimes the ratash can be a little hot up there and then you're gon na get the right ash deposit. So leveling is important. Okay and I'm gon na introduce my friend, Nora Nora, come in Nora's our guy tank. My Danny artist and she's gon na help me apply the color, so we're gon na apply 6mr with ten volume to her Batoche right now. So you'll see us apply about an inch and a half off okay, so I always divide the hair into four quadrants. First, just like this, and then I go in and I could trace my pattern all the way. Heather tell us a little bit more, probably about like 10 years ago, but I decided to go into the health field and pursue that and now I graduated from grad school. I kind of want to get back into the modeling scene and that's why you're here here with me today, you're doing hair modeling like sometimes when they're casting for an Asian. They want a specific type of look that is either like, for you know, super ethnic-looking. What does you know? Do I look super ethnic? Do you look? I don't know what that means. So it's more like a stereotypical image of what people want to see you to be, and I think that goes back full circle to my daddy and that's what this line is about. Is that it's about knowing who you are we're all different, even though we may be in the same group of you, know, ethnicity or same group of the category? We all have our own identity and I feel like I wish more people embrace and celebrate the differences versus trying to put us all into this this category and say we should look this way. I mean you would think by now that we should celebrate the differences you're here today, because I celebrate your differences and I think we're gon na be hair, besties and Beyond from here on out. What do you think Heather? Yes, awesome, so so you're also 29. I am, how is the stereotype, with being 29 years old and modeling, that you're kind of I don't know like if you're past, your prime, basically like you need to not model right now, like you're done? Is that how they see it exactly, I'm retired, honestly, you look great and I feel like we should just love everybody for what they is Nora. Tell us your story to the fullest. I mean one thing that I kind of like is that most people can't guess where I'm from like, when you are a mixture of things and for people to not judge you for what they think you are. So I kind of get all sorts of different ethnicities and I kind of like being able to look all sorts of different. You know cultures and things like that. But listening to your story, I was actually wondering: do you think in like the culture they don't want? You to get into modeling and they prefer you go to school, because that's what you're supposed to do, yeah like that's how my parents were at first well, actually, these still kind of are we love you mom and dad you're, watching I'm done with grad school. So now I can do whatever I want. That'S so funny, just don't let your parents watch this video dyeing my hair. Yes, so that would be going against everything right. Yes, I feel the same like my culture was kind of like. Oh, you should go to school. Like you're not going to be successful, unless you go to school and they were like, oh you can't do hair. Like you, you know that's considered like not a high class profession. You know, like you, have to go to university or some. Oh my gosh right yeah, but in the end I feel like being a hair. Stylist people don't take you seriously. Oh you're, just doing hair. That'S it like it's, not a real job like it's, not a real job. I feel like Hello. We have to understand the science we have to know what we're doing with the the chemicals. If you will, I think that being a hairstyle sweet should be proud of it, and - and now I mean I feel like we need. We deserve respect just as much as anybody in any profession. I know this red is gon na. Look really awesome on you. I think we're living in a time now that you can wear these colors and and and not be stereotyped or judged. I think it only takes one person to make the world move. It'S having a different idea, a different thought and not be be scared by judgment, and let that hold us back a lot of times when our clients come in a salon. They want a change, they want to read the fine der Meyde entity. A lot of people from my culture cover their hair for religious reasons and then so they'll say well. Why do they even want to bother doing their hair? Well because they're doing it for themselves? They'Re doing it because it makes them feel good to try something like different and it's not about making other people happy. I like how you say that, because I have like my pink underwear on, I wear that underwear for me I know I'm wearing it. I feel comfortable in it, I feel sexy in it. So it gives me confidence, even though nobody sees my underwear but the same thing with your tumble, like you're, wearing a the bail or their hair for religious purposes. But they still want to feel beautiful and they still want to try the latest trends and when they get together with like their girlfriends, and you know their family members, they get to show off that hair color and it's like a present like opening a surprise. The thing is, a lot of people don't understand that, because they don't live in that environment or that culture, and so I think it's important to be aware. I think, when we're aware of our surroundings and what we're doing we we tend to be. We widen our minds and and not stereotype people, because that's where stereotype starts from it's our lack of knowledge of understanding, other cultures and and it all goes back into fashion and hair, because it feels like whether you have curly hair. You have a stereotype whether you have short hair. You have a stereotype right, like oh guys, boys only like girls with long hair. I need to wear lots of extensions, so I could be attractive or whatever right. So it comes full circle that people might not take stereotypes that seriously, but this actually comes all back into fashion and what we do as hairstyles for us to understand our clients and their hair. We have to be confident and all the hair types that may walk in our chair all right guys. So now we're mixing our second formula and it's 6mr stills, I'm gon na squeeze her out to full tubes. Here: okay, with the second formulation, I either do 20 or 30 or you can mix them both together. So it's gon na become a 25 volume. You'Re gon na see me squeeze to 30 and first okay, just like so 20 is gon na, be more deep. Color deposition and less underlying pigment exposure if you're gon na mix it pure 30 you're gon na get more underlying pigment exposure and you tend to get a little bit less color deposit just because of the overriding the pigment have a situation, so I kind of want Both I want the vibrancy from the 30 volume. I want the color deposition from the 20 and that's why you're seeing we mix the two together, so I get in between so down the squeeze in the 20 right now. We'Re gon na mix her in there. Okay. So this would be considered 25 volumes stir in, I feel, like you know, lately a lot of people been fearing Reds, but I think red, it's very, very sexy and a lot of people fear like. Oh it doesn't last long, it's how you take care of it. Everything fades whether it's silver or blonde or certain toner. We can't live our life and fear just put the color on your hair and stop worrying about the faded. That'S like say I don't want to live because I'm afraid I'm gon na die just worry about living. We got ta worry about living versus worrying about dying. If you know what I mean so with I'm, comparing red hair to living and dying. Okay, guys, I'm just trying to make a point here. Heather, do you understand what I'm saying you get it right? So what can you do to keep your hair from fading? Then there's dry, shampoo, you don't shampoo it every day, don't jump in the pool because pool has chlorine water depending on where you live. Sometimes there's hard water soft waters, all those things the pH in your wallet - can affect the longevity of these dyes and not just my identity guys, but any dyes period. You know now there's got to worry about what we eat. Where we go. You know the sun exposure breathing in the air. You know there's something everywhere, so I think that this is one of the things that we should celebrate in life, so well just don't need it. We'Re gon na put all the plates in now and guys don't put too much Ola pipes. I feel, like everybody wants to put this much n-no. That'S too much. That'S gon na affect color deposit, the lift of the lightener. I like to put this much when I'm doing a treatment at the shampoo bowl, but not when I'm doing the color. So less is more when you're using olaplex with the color. Okay, so stir the olaplex in after you mix the color all right. Here we go ready or not. Here I come okay, so we're gon na start applying the color in the back. First, I'm going in with a second formulation - and this is the 25 volume with 6m are midnight rose. Midnight rose has like a black cherry color tonality. That'S what I love about it has so much richness, it's so much depth, Nora you're, saying another thing that helps the color last longer was the temperature of the water that you wash your hair with. So you want to wash it with cool water and not hot. The hot water opens up the cuticle of the hair, shaft flushing out the color, so you want to try to rinse with cold water. I know it's tough if you want a hot shower, clip your hair up and just let the hot water to put your body. Not your hair in the in the shower. I just keep my head back and you know it doesn't have to be ice-cold, but just as long as it's not like super hot and, of course, the heating tools, even though this has that technology, the mirror style xhp. We don't want to like overly do anything. I love that you brought that because, even though you have the heat protection, it doesn't mean you still turn your iron up to 450, because you can still burn the hair. You can still fade the color. It'S almost like. If you have a shield, if someone is hitting you with a sword, I know what you're trying to say just because we have the protection, there doesn't mean we're gon na have to push it beyond play exactly so. At this point here, you're seeing me just smudge in and blend the color through, so even though you could still kind of massage it and swish the first color in it'll blend, I find that it blends even more seamlessly. If you do it that way. So a formula it's like you can put 5mr at the ratash and shift down to a 6mr and, most importantly, to let the color process for the full 30 minutes. So I'm just gon na do this throughout and we're gon na come right back. So you can see her transform a CL right here right now. You look pretty hot. How do you feel I feel amazing, like I, I love it. I love it so much and it's not like too drastic, but it's like perfect enough to give me some more character, some more its. Yes, you found your my identity. I think I did shiny like I'm. Blinded by the shine, do you feel that's weird. That is healthier now than before, like you wouldn't think so, but it feels healthier and it looks like way healthy, amazing, that's shine! It'S like black cherry, I'm obsessed. I know you're obsessed and you're gon na be using it. Are you a stick of this color? Yes, I will I love it. I love it. I fell a little bit muted with my old color and this just kind of highlighted who I was yes and you're Asian and you could be any color you want to be. You don't have to let stereotypes control. You just because you know Mulan has black hair, don't mean you have to be Mulan, you don't have to just be a stereotype. You could just be anyone. You want to be with my tennety. I know you guys love it thumbs up and subscribe to my youtube channel. Follow me on Instagram and you can stalk Nora as well. All the links, yeah beep comments, love you guys. So much do you

Gio Zaffini: Came for the lit ass hair transformations, stayed for the race and stereotypes talk. I have so much respect for hairdressers, man. Y'all do art.

Looking for San Junipero: Who else loves the conversations Guy has with his models and fellow professionals? ❤️ Beautiful look (on both ladies, actually!!!)

drink z coffee: She looks absolutely gorgeous! I love how much you speak of identity #mydentity. I've never seen someone's 'ethnicity' until it's pointed out. And I believe hair color makes a huge difference! Anyone can become their own #mydentity with hair color. It can transform facial features, attitude, and perceptions. I adore this transformation! ♡♡♡

Crystal K: Ohhhh her hair is BEAUTIFUL! I agree with what you guys were saying, hairstylists DO deserve the same respect as everyone else in other professions. <3

Suzanne: Hair stylists are the best!, they can change the way you feel about yourself. There is nothing better than when you leave the Hair Stylist feeling so happy and confident about yourself, it feels like you're walking on clouds and a spring in your step.

LunisaZen: I love this video Guy! I especially love how you got into people stereotyping hairstylists! We have to stand up for our passion!

Kaylee Marinelli: I love how energetic he is!! It makes my day 100 times better when I watch him

Becks39: I've been watching your videos for ages and I just dyed my sisters hair about half an hour ago (it's still sitting) but I actually did a shadow root and I'm SO excited to see how it comes out. I used the Manic Panic Purple Haze for the roots and then the Flamingo pink from Punky Colors for the length and blended both so there is a smooth transition.Be back with results haha. You're so inspirational for my creativity :D

Pam Edwards by appointment only: And... We've ALL been Waiting for a boy like YOU! ❤️ Thank you for bring us RICH REDS! Love you Noora!!! You two are FUN to watch together!

kas Georgiou: Gorgeous colour! That would look really good faded into really pale pink tips, or some deep plum undertones with a slight hint of copper for an autumnal look (which I've always wanted to try)

Madison Covey: I love how Guy Tang’s videos aren’t just about doing hair but they have meaningful conversations and showing beautiful transformations

nina black: STUNNING color...I love i and it looked amazing on her ♥

gabriela ortiz: Can't even explain how much I love this video! I love he dialogue they have & the hair. Everything in this video is so important and meaningful to me! I love you Guy Tang ! ❤️❤️

Domestic Diva03: Omg I love love love this !! You are so talented . No one has ever been able to achieve this color in my hair ...

Elisa Johnson: I love this color. I colored my hair with it back it December. It's the only bright color I've used that lifts to a bright color and colors my white hair without adding brown therefore dulling the bright tones. I've been a professional stylist since 2005 and I've used redken, Paul Mitchell and matrix, and now I want to use this color line professionally.

WooWoo: Love I stumbled on this site! So entertaining and informative! Real question....i have been using temporary coloring from 8th grade which because of my family's stubborn grey hair we ALL have started seeing VERY early on. My grandfather was completely gray when he stepped off the boat from Sicily at age 10! Anyway, I have maybe a half a shade lighter than black and thru tbe years Ive tried adding lighteners and no matter what or different ways Ive tried to stay up to date trying various methods, brands, mixtures etc.... I have been stuck with the only option of Blue/Black (keeps ends from turning reddish) and a very dark brown from goldwell. I found it to be the only way to cover my grey and can do it for myself..now every 2-3 weeks. I would love any suggestions to get a little change going on and still cover the grey you might have....I have been using this combo for well over 10 years....YAWN Anyway, love your energy and advise so I look forward to you or anyone's suggestions on here.

Dev: Three beauties Thanks for the pep talk, Guy. I've been dying to go teal--I need mermaid hair --but I've been so nervous! I'm doing it.

Karen Shurley: No way Heather is 29 in this vid!!!! Late teens/early 20’s. Guy; what most people don’t realize is hair stylists must go to school and get licensed. It isn’t like you can eyeball hair dye and know what you’re doing. I love your heart and honestly

Ashley Garner: I love watching these videos, it gives me confidence when doing my own hair, and has given me more information then when I was in school. it has made me feel comfortable in my own skin and has helped find #mydentity!!! I finally decided to buy this color, and my mom wants to give e it a try, and I want to follow the formula given, but my mom has some super greys going on in the roots; should I color the greys with a neutral color first? she has a natural dark brown in the roots and a faded red/burgundy on the midshaft and ends. Thanks, #hairbestie Ashley

musicaltheatrelover 1234: Guy Tang  Your hair tutorials are so amazing. Love the colours. Please do more tutorials. I'm a hairdresser in training. You are an amazing teacher. Thank you for being you!

Kristina B: This is a GORGEOUS COLOR! Great explanation of hows and why's when it comes to color application and product use. I agree on using the developer that comes with the color brand and not mixing with other brands. All advice is appreciated. Love love love this.

CeeCee: Are we going to ignore the fact that Nora's eyes are stunning, too?? Loved the model's new hair color!! ♡

Princess Maryam: I love what noora said about the whole headscarf thing, I wear the hijab, and have had people always say that to me oh why do you bother with your hair, I have a hair obsession and love changing my hair colour and I do it for myself

Layla A: Omg! this color looks amazing on her! I'm planning to dye my hair for the first time like this in the summer

Sevi Regis: Beautiful color on this client. I also love Nora's hair like that with the gray-silver balayage

LauraKat87: I love the message of this video! You are such an inspiration. Red hair is life for me!

Ashley Mottu: guy tang, I love you :) you are an amazing stylist and person with a beautiful soul, I appreciate all of the knowledge you share with all of your hair beasties. keep being you and sharing your awesomeness with the world

Debi B: Let me just say, if there were no cosmotolgists can you imagine how horribe all our hair would look... I'm an old time hairbestie, no longer in the field, I'm retired but I absolutely LOVE watching hair specialists work, and you always feel so so good when you leave a salon!!! Hair people are just THE BEST!!!!

LapinAngelique00: I LOVE THIS COLOR! It's so beautiful.

Amber: The hair color, Nora and Heather are all gorgeous!

River bliss: My daughter is 17 and is taking cosmetology. She is in her 2nd year. And I am so proud of her! To be able to create beauty and make the person feel good about themselves is amazing!

Albi Reading Romance: So beautiful! I wish I could rock this. I'm a natural dark blonde, so some of these dark rich colors ive never seen done.

violetxoxox: This is so striking with her skin tone. So much more sultry and "WOW" than the color she had before. It's particularly obvious at the end where the before and after are shown. The previous color was nice, but her hair and face were sort of blurred together and neither stood out. The new color acts as more of a dramatic frame making her face glow. I wish this color had been around all the years I was trying to get a pink-red and had to go for a purplish eggplant/burgundy instead, because that was the only cool-toned option in a sea of orangey reds.

Amber McDowell: Love love love! I've used it several times and it amazes me every time

Ashley Sotelo: Yes! Be proud of being a hairstylist. I think that if you have a job that you love and that affects others in a positive way, it is worth being proud of...even if that job is stereotyped as "low class".

QueenPersephoneKore95: *I love so much this color <3 Midnight Rose/Black Cherry is favourite hair colour since when I was a kid. When I was a little girl I loved Golden Blonde, Copper Strawberry Blond, Copper Auburn Brown, Dark Chocolate Brown, Titian Red, Midnight Rose/Black Cherry/Cherry Chocolate, Green Mint and Artic Periwinkle hair <3*

Cathy M: I adore this color! Thank you thank you I know what I want to do with my hair.

Jamie Rego: Currently a hairdressing student and I love your videos they are so helpful!!

TheNoarielle: This is the hair color I always wanted!!!! Whenever I tell someone I want red hair they always think neon, but this is what I mean!!!!! Now just to convince my mom to let me dye it!

Theresa Pittman: Having dyed and cut my own hair before with varying degrees of success, I do not look down my nose on stylists. You have to understand chemistry, you have to understand skin types, you have to understand face shapes and hair types and understand artistry and be able to explain to customers that you cannot give them this new trendy cut, because their hair will never be able to look like the picture they brought in. Ever. While maintaining a high level of customer service. Staring with 10 developer and switching to 30. I would never have known that if you hadn't just explained it. And not all stylist can achieve these kinds of results, so there are varying degrees of skill and innate talent. K', I'm done now.

Nancy Norcross: I did this on my self today , I love it .. it is beautiful

lauridix: The perfect hair stylist and a super kind person. You're perfect and i'm loving your work!!

rebecca barlow: I love that you say that everyone can play with their hair color!!!!!!! I just colored my hair a crazy color for the first time; and I know people are judging me cause I'm Latina with bright pink/purple/redish hair!!!!! I'm trying to be more confident about it but the struggle is real Guy!!!!!! Love you!

Amber Merritt: Beautiful color. I think I might do that when I start coloring my hair again

Sundus AlAlousi: Omg Guy....That colour is Beyoooooond Gorgeous....as for the labeling and stereotypes....I'm one of those people that broke the hair colour boundries people are used to in the middle East and trust me I get so many compliments about my black and red hair allllll the time from all genders and ages although it was a shock to most when I first did it but it just felt right to me.....I looked ME....guess I found #mydentity too

Jessica Serna: When I saw your line at cosmoprof I died I'm excited to use your products ! ❤️❤️❤️

Makeup & Keto Lifestyle With Corina Nanea Bermudez: Love the hair color that does make sense using different development. I use to tell them that in class but teachers never didn’t care ‍♀️. Will try that midnight rose color . I’m tired of highlights

Miss Lady: I tried for this look myself. I ended up with bright red with orange tones.. :-/  now it just even more of a mess.. BUT her hair came out beautiful <3 amazing job GUY TANG!

acilirp: Love your tutorials for dark hair!!!!

mrskamran: Exquisite! I need this hair!! ❤️

miaka miaka: Oh my God ! Guy tang Ive watch 3 videos from you and hands down I can't help it, the hair transformation is just amazing. wish I was one of them. I love your skills, your personality . You are a definition of a hair color GENIUS !!!...keep it up and God bless ...

Deena: Love, love that color on her!!!! I love it!! Guy does an amazing job!!! I found it interesting what Noora said about women that wear veils or hijab. I don't cover my hair but my sisters, mom, and myself have been told by many veiled women that we are going to h$#! for not veiling. Men from that region act like we are less than even though no one notices us. It's very judgey. It's great that some women veil but please don't act like the rest of us are less than.

Intelibeauty: Has so much dimension even though you only put on one color. I do love it!

Hellen Jimenez: Precioso el color ❤️

Angelica Cantu: Love this color! This may be my next color.

Danniella Woods: Just Now getting into the Midnight Rose collection! Love it!

Guy Tang: Omg HairBesties, I am so excited about the new shades in Mydentity! Do you love the new Midnight Rose?!

churlish hoecake: This looks fantastic on her! I'd rock it, but I would like it a bit darker. :)

Nicole Dawn: This is gorgeous!

sheknjb: Beautiful! I love it!!!

Pooh Whitaker: That hair color is Gorgeous! Guy another Stunning Amazing Job as usual!

Анастасия Кеппель: Как всегда прекрасно!

Layla M: You're amazing and inspiring Guy. Love your work and love you as always. I still want my hair did by you!

Fidyanti Yumna MA: Love the rose color!

Natalie Nicole: guy i swear you are amazing. just what you guys were talking about the stereotype of being a hairstylist isn’t a “high” or “real” or whatever profession. but you were spot on about having to have knowledge about the dyes mixing and the different volumes along with all of the things you have to know and skills you learn. when you were talking about mixing dyes i swear i couldn’t really comprehend anything you said right off the bat, it took me a second because you’re vocabulary and all of your knowledge is so amazing. love u so much guy!!
