Wigs 101 : Colors (Blacks & Browns)

This is an explanation of the color charts of wig companies. In particular synthetic brunettes. What do those weird letters and numbers mean?

I'll show you some online color charts of 1, 1B, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18 and a sample swatch of Paula Young's 1B, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 8/12A Pecan Delight, SF6/11 Coffee Bean.

If you're new to buying wigs finding the right color can be a real challenge, you'll probably be asking yourself well what color is my natural hair? What color would look best on me? What do all these crazy numbers and letters mean it's sort of like going to your local hardware store and trying to find a paint color? Thankfully, most wig manufacturers have agreed on certain numbers, meaning certain colors now all vary slightly, but in general these are the rules at this point. I'Ll warn you that you also have to remember your color on your monitor is not always accurate and not every computer is the same. So what you see on the screen might look different than what is in real life. I do recommend going to your local beauty supply store, whether that's at Sally's or a wig store, and looking at some color samples, they'll have swatches for you to look at or if you only look online, you can order a color swatch from whatever manufacturer. You pick. This color chart you see on the screen is from a company called autre, but each manufacturer has their own color chart you just google, their name and color chart, and it should come up a number one is black, but it is a jet black, the deepest black. You can possibly get a 1 is the color you might imagine. A Japanese person's hair is so it's kind of difficult to pull off if you're, Caucasian or you're black. True, true black will look too dark. In fact, some manufacturers don't even carry one. They start their color range at 1 B, which is an off black. It'S a black that sort of has a brownish cast to it, rather than blue. It'S the color, you might imagine most black people's hair to be from there. The colors go up in numbers of two, so a 2 is a dark brown. A 4 is a medium dark. Brown 6 is a chestnut brown. Now we're gon na switch a look at the John Renault color palette, which is very similar. The 8 is a light chestnut brown, the 10 is the medium golden brown. The number 18 is a light ash brown, which means it is a paler Brown that has no golden or red overtones to it. If you're not sure what hair color will best match your own natural hair color, you can ask Paul Young to send you a color sample swatch for free and they have them in grenades. Bombs, Gray's this one is synthetic Cantillon. This synthetic fiber has a very natural feel and movement close to real hair. Hopefully you can tell the subtle differences in the colors. This was shot outside and in direct sunlight. These subtle variations make a surprising difference on when you're wearing a wig. The two colors on the right are blend 812. A is nicknamed pecan delight and is a mix of 8 and 12. So it's a mix of medium golden brown with highlights of a light golden brown or slightly blonde ff6. / 11 is another blend. It is a salon frost of the color 6 and the color 11. You might say to yourself, but there is no color 11. Well, really in between the number 10 and number 12 there's a depth shade of 11, which is a lighter golden brown aside from costume wigs most quality wigs will never be 100 % all one color, because most people's hair is not one. Color you'll have a subtle variation of a highlight here, a low-light there thanks for watching - and I wanted to give a shout out to where I learned what all these letters and numbers meant aside from trial and error, of course, which is a youtuber called winging out With Bobby Z, I will put a link in the description bar to his video as well as two websites that have a good color. As always, don't forget to Like comment and subscribe.

Kaile Chante: Thanks for this, just dyed my hair brown and couldn't figure out what color bundles to order to match

Ashley Madgett: Thank you! This is exactly what I needed!!

Lind Cobbs: I noticed that wigs made from different companies vary greatly. I have a wig in the #T27 which is much darker blonde than the #27 on your chart.

시린: My hair is 1b at the top and the ends are 2 from the sun I assume

Elle Renée: I'm a black woman born with #1 black hair. #1 is not only designated to Asian people.

Renada-Nanique: Sometimes idk if I'm 4 or 2
