70% Rubbing Alcohol

Paint brush

Gloves

Something to help you get the sharpie apart (I used pliers)

Paper towels

Hi everyone today we're going to be doing a tutorial on how to dye a section of your wig. I will put a more detailed material list in the description, but basically all you're gon na need is sharpies of the color of your choice: 70 % rubbing alcohol Tupperware with lid, that you don't mind thrashing a paintbrush and your wig. The first step is you're gon na want to get the ink out of your sharpies. As you can see here, I have a little difficulty with it, but once you get the hang of it, it goes really fast. The next step is to take the cutting utensil of your choice, cut down the center of the plastic tubing of the ink. This will make it so it can blend with the rubbing alcohol easily you're gon na want to fill the Tupperware container about one-third full of the rubbing alcohol and then you're gon na want to shake it. You'Re, probably gon na want to shake it over a sink. It can get a little messy. I leave the mixture in the Tupperware overnight because I think it gives my dime or vibrant color. The next step, you're gon na do is take the section of the hair that you want to die. Doop, your paintbrush in the mixture and just kind of go at it. You'Re gon na want to take it slow, take it easy and the dye can start to spread a little bit if you don't take it slow, especially in the roots. So, that's why I have the paper towel there just to protect me from random splotches. That can happen. I did two layers of color on this wig and I think it gave me the Claro's going for it's very vibrant, deep red. It'S gon na depend on the color of wig you start out with and how many sharpies you are using. I started out with a light gray wig from art of wigs, and I think it took the color perfectly. Another thing I should add is when you're doing this painting technique, don't forget to paint the underside part of the section. I didn't do that the first time I started wig painting and it looked a little silly when it lays flat on the wig there. This is the end result, I'm really happy with the color. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the comments and don't forget to Like us on Facebook, facebook.com slash elite, cosplay,

Elite Cosplay: Yup, let it dry out for a while. (I would just leave it alone for a day) and then give it a wash. Be warned that when you wash it might bleed a little (red is the worst for bleeding)

Luchina Thomas: Thank you Gurl You're a life saver! Will try this technique on a honey blonde synthetic wig I bought. Didn't like the color of the wig, so it's never been worn. Glad I seen this video. Thanks again!

megan lee: This helped a lot! And the color you did is the exact color I need to dye my wig ^-^

Elite Cosplay: If you use 70% alcohol to dye the wig, you might be able to do a rinse with 91% alcohol to remove it. This is not a guaranteed method though :)

Paisley Anderson: your video tutorial is by far the best i've seen on this topic, just ordered a kawaii pink wig from china and they sent me blonde -____- not willing to wait another 10 days to receive the correct wig so i've been searching on how to dye it myself, thank you for providing this video !!!

Marlo404: I found cracking the sharpies open with a hammer much more effective and less tedious for future reference! This video is really helpful for me, I just bought a sharpie pack and hope to get dying this week!

HaitianDebutanteTV: Great Job!!! Straight To The Point... Love it!!!

Elite Cosplay: I used 5 for that little chunk and had plenty left over to do more sections if I wanted. I think 4 or 5 would be plenty. Just remember to let it sit for a while, or it will take more layers to get really black. :) Hope I helped!

Kitsune Ai: Very useful ! Thank you for the video :)

Rippepippe: This is so helpful thank you!!

Mini_Leo Queen: I really liked this and it helped me out. Thank you!

valerie: i’m definitely going to use this method for my ibuki wig!!

Fouffle: This was helpful ^-^! For my wig, it's a really light blonde. I need to make pastel colors though. Should I use a darker version of the color (or just let it sit overnight?) then wash it out? Also do we have to use sharpies? Like, I have these markers called BIC Mark-it which are permanent like sharpies ;w;

md j: Helpful and you explained the process so well thank u! I kind of messed up on mine tho.. Is there some way to remove the permanent marker from the wig?? Mine is a synthetic 613

Ma Ch: That's perfect!!! thank you sooo much!!!

Prince.Charming: This sounds like a fantastic tutorial! Yet I've got a question or two: Do you need to seal it or anything by using this method? and is the colour of this Arda wig silver?

Vampireninja102: When applying the second layer, should the first be mostly dry beforehand? Also when washing, should it be with warm or cold water?

your mom: This video helped me a lot thanks!!

Lottiana: did you wash it out or anything? if so, how long did you leave it on the wig for before washing? also, does the colour tend to rub off on your skin/clothes etc if you wear it?

A Birdd: Should I wash it out after its dried?

Elite Cosplay: I haven't personally used 50% but other people have and say it works just fine :)

Elite Cosplay: I'm pretty sure any permanent marker you can take apart will work :)

TwistedCosplay: THANK YOU!! Somebody finally makes a video on this!

Sun Through Water the Green River Mermaid: I'm so totally going to use this method for my My Little Pony Princess Cadence wig!

isaascene: Hi! I have a biiig question. Here in my country is almost impossible to get that "rubbing alcohol" of 70%, in here is only +90%... And sooo, it's possible to dye the wig with that type of alcohol percentage?! ty ^^

Max: Will I be able to make the hair a gradient with this method? I'm starting with a blonde wig and need the tips to fade to orange

Lunar Gem: Thank You for making this video! :)

hardcore4kids: Thank you for this tutorial! Yoy saved my life ;-;! Cause my neliel wig was toooo lighter than the original :( ! One question, do you wash it after that? Or just let it dry? Sorry for my bad english x)

whatever : How do you seal in the color and make sure it doesn't get on anything?

Elite Cosplay: I would delude it with more alcohol. I used a small amount in the video because I wanted it to be more intense, so more alcohol should make it lighter ^^

NisoTheStrawberry: omg thank you so much ,it will help me a lot!

Aurora Eledā: Hi :) I'm cosplay Keira Hagai from the Jak and Daxter series. Could I buy a green wig then dye the top blue? Or should I just start with a white wig? Thanks so much for your tutorial by the way :)

Vanessa Vanier: Hey ! Nice tutorial :) But i didn't really get the part with the rubbing alchool, because i'm french and im not sure i totally understand the part when you put it in the tuperware. Did you just put alchool ? Or did you add water with it? What kind of alchool ? Thanks and sorry for the long question haha ! :) (the rest of the video was pretty clear ! :P )

damonsalvatore269: Did you use all red sharpies the final color looks different than I thought it would. I was wondering how you know which color to choose to make sure it's the one you want.

Aljeron Colis: Thanks!! This helped!

Claudia Rainwater: What do I do about it staining? I've washed it my wig twice and it still stains my hands and forehead when I wear it.

Ian T 1993: Did you need to wash it after it was dry? Also did you need to put anything like a spray or something to make sure the color wouldn't rub off on anything?

Sakura Drawing Pencil: When youre done, do you also have to wash the wig or just let it dry? Because sometimes is gets a little sticky when I do this

Slightly Identical: Would you recommend painting the sharpie dye over spraying it on the wig?

sherly mate: great!! thanks! i also ordered my wig from arda and i need to make part of the blonde wig, black :P

ShiningStarNA: After I dye it, what I have to do? Leave it to dry and then wash it?

...: I'm considering doing this for a Nai wig (from Karneval) and I'm just wondering if you knew how to make it gradient in a way?

Julia Driscoll: would you say that this method works as long as you're going for a darker color than the original?

charmeka Jackson: Will the color fade away and also if you go into the rain will the color drip

Scum bigula: ever tried this on a dark wig? i want to give a black wig a tint of blue, how effective do you think it would be?

CYMMiE CONWAY: Love this video I have a question my extensions are half human and a good quality synthetic from sallys will this method work on my extensions??

Funnehsky: Would this method work if I was to take a cotton candy pink and dye half of it a light blue? or would the blue be purplish and require several coats?

KA1MANTIC: I’m making my own Deku wig so I only need certain sections underneath the green while it’s styled to be dyed black. should I paint it while I have it styled? If I do so would the black bleed onto the green when I rinse it?

Nena B.: do u wash it after n how long do u keep the color on

Lucky Lace: can you re-dye areas that you have already colored?

xValkeery Playsx: Do you need to syle the wig before dying it? or should you dye it then style?

miyuki kiyoshi: can you just dip the strands in the mixture?

Ciri Hime: does it rub off onto clothes and stuff after it dries? I'm wanting to dye the ends of my wig for Harley Quinn buy can't have the color bleed

WeLoveKneeHighSocks: Did you have to wash it after dyeing?

AXEL: Won't the color fade away when you sweaT? aLSO, DO YOU HAVE TO WASH IT AFTER IT DRIES AND IS IT SAFE TO WASH THE WHOLE THING I MEAN WON'T THE COLOR TRAMSFER TO THE OTHER STRAND OF HAIR WHEN YOU WASH IT WITH WATER. HELPFUL VIDEO BTW.

PizzaQueen 1: How long does this last?

Emily Thompson: Im doing this and i have green in my hair right now it works xD

emily white: can u use vinegar instead of rubbing alcohol?

arichujo: If I want to make a white wig into a black/blue, should I mix blue and black sharpie together? Also, does dying it with sharpies affect the shine in any way? Hope you reply..thanks!

goth sandy: This is a really good method!! But are you able to take the color off? I have a red Kagami wig but I want to add the darker red on the bottom so will I be able to wash it off or something later on?

Mokinko: Hey I will be dying a wig soon, but I only need to dye the ends, about the last inch. How many sharpies would I use? I will be dying a dark red wig -> black

Guata L: thank you!!! i wanted to cosplay a a fem!jeabn from attack on titan and i needed help to dye the bottom section of the hair to a dark brown

Elite Cosplay: Nope! I lightly brushed it when it was dry and the texture is the same as the rest of the hair.

Puella Maggie: I might do this for my Quackerjack cosplay...I can't find a purple and red wig in the style I want so I'm just gonna dye the white half of a fem!Todoroki wig lol

Chey Marie: Does it come out when u wash it?

Elite Cosplay: Yaaay! I'm glad I could help ^^

gabe dits: does it crack? And does it rub off? Can you use this for dyeing an entire wig?

goth sandy: oh ok, well I'll try it and I'll see if it works!! ^u^ Thanks for answering!!

Sharrona Pelletier: did you wash the color out at all ? ive done this method twice on a couple wigs i own . but i always washed it out after it dried. also how long do you leave in for ?

StarryNightCos: I'm wanting to do this on a black wig with pink streaks. Do you think it would work?

TheInvisibleCactus: Do you know how I would dye it if I wanted a light red but using the same sharpie?

Elite Cosplay: Unfortunately, unless it's a human hair wig, you will not be able to lighten it :(

Kyko Flowers: Um would it work on like a bombshell blond wig?? I bought this England hetalia wig at LightintheBox and I wanted to dye sections of it for cosplaying an oc. So do you think about like 5 sharpies of pink and 5 of purple will be ok with it?? Also should I wait for the first section to dry before starting the second??

TheVampiress2009: So, if I am only doing a few 1 inch wide strands wouldn't i only need like 3 not 5 markers like you used?

Aline Laura: Will it come out if I wash my wig?

Kotoko chan: Where do you get the rubbing alcohol ???

AkemiFireFox: Im planning on dying a wig to make a Stocking wig, Do you have any tips on how to?

Ali Ahmed: I bought some synthetic extensions and tried darkening them very slightly (chestnut to light brown/ its was too reddish compared to my blondish brown hair) and coloured them using dylon fabric dye as a tester, but its dried them out and i doubt  itll stay in if i wash them (leaves residue on my neck anjd clothes). would this work better for them being synthetic?

Michela Galea: can you do a wig black with them and then u have to blowdry it or?

Roddy The Mime: There is something *super* unsettling about watching you cut the sponges.. xD

NewDivded: Where can I order Sharpie's online?

Tess Veronica: you can get it at drugstores and walmart/cvs, ect. :)

darkchurchhill: will this make the wig stiff though?

puddingtops: Would this work for trying to add black roots to a blonde wig in a sort of ombre effect? Im planning to cosplay kenma kozume (haikyuu!) and i wanna have a back up in case i cant find a good wig online thats within my price range ty

Iceharuyuki: How long does the coloring last?

Elayna Barrios: how would it work with metallic sharpies?
