How To Use Bobby Pins And Hair Pins Correctly

Bobby pins and hair pins are one of the most commonly used hair tools out there, but do you know how to use bobby pins the right way? Do you know how to use hair pins without having them slide out?

In this video tutorial, we're going to demonstrates the correct way to put bobby pins in your hair. We'll also talk about when to use short bobby pins or long bobby pins.

If you use hair pins to keep your updos in place, you're going to love this hair trick that we share in the video that is guaranteed to keep hairpins from sliding out!

Remember to give this video a thumbs up and share if you found it useful. Also, tell us how you place your bobby pins so they stay in all day by sharing your secrets in the comments box below.

What'S important is understanding your hair pins, let's work with a long hair grip. First, when you look at a long hair grip, it's long, but it's long for a reason. I'Ll explain that a moment, but it's got a toe that kicks up it's that toe. That goes on the bottom, and it's interesting when it's a toe, you see, you don't have to open it up, because it's already open, you'll slide it in and it'll catch the hair. I always used to put it in this way. This is the way it goes, but here's the interesting way I'm going to start with the toe on top. First, where we hold this, where we pin I go up and down up and down now, once I've done that I come in and I twist the pin so now the toe is on the bottom, and now I push in and now that's not going to be Sliding out just a simple little trick to know: let's go with a long, hair grip or excuse me, a long hair pin with a long hair pin these tend to slide out, especially if you're working with hair, that's very heavy in an up style. What we want to do is encourage you just do a small fish hook on the end, and when you place a pen in normally like you, would it's not going to be sliding out? Please be sure you tell the clan that there's a fish hook in there. They have to bend this back when they pull it out now. Watch when I come through, you simply come through with the fish hook, and you simply place it in just like you normally would so where we hold. That is where we're pinning now, when I go in that, pin slides in normally now it won't be sliding out, but remember it's a fish hook. We Bend it when you take it out. Let'S take a look at a short grip short grips. If you look at it, it's got a little wave Ridge on top it's a little Ridge that does this a little waving pattern. It'S that pattern that goes down and the smooth part is on top. Once again, it's got a toe that opens up. That does this. That'S what catches the hair so there's never really a need to open it up. Member the wider. We open up a hairpin to put it in the more that it's going to have an opportunity to slide out so keep them closed when you put in so I'm going to turn once again, where we hold this, where we pin I'm going to keep it with The ridge, the wavy Ridge on the bottom and once again weave them when you put in and where you hold, is where you pin so just some simple little tricks in terms of when you're going through and you're working with long grips, hairpins short, hair, pins, long Grips remember where your wave, where your wavy Ridge is and where the toe is and remember, use a fishhook when you feel that the hair pins are going to slide.

write-minded: You’re not supposed to open the pin?!!! *this changes everything*

Sten Cain: Thank you so much! I know it sounds stupid, but I actually never learned how to use bobby pins or style my hair in general. I never really had the money for hair products or anything, and I just sorta settled for a ponytail if anything. I’m trying to learn the basics, and I’m really happy this video exists! Thank you!!

The Demi Surgeon: Thank you for this! As a mortician, we often have to do the hair ourselves, yet they never teach this it in mortuary school. This simple tutorial is a game changer for me lol

BC TN GAL LIVIN' IN OH: It just occurred to me where every teen girl or woman can learn about this. The next time a client sits in one of your chairs, explain that you'd like to teach her one little thing that she can take home and use for a lifetime - then explain the proper way to use bobby pins!  (Of course, in advance hire a hair decoration artist to provide the shop with an array of beautiful decorated bobby pins and have that display right by the cash register... Just an idea...  I do love the "upsell!!")

Judie Tallman-Deitchman: such great tips! thanks, Sam!

M K: Brilliant. I wish someone, ANYONE, would have pulled me aside for 5 minutes in my youth and taught me this. So much time & stress I've wasted over the years due to bad hair days & constantly re-pinning my hair as my up-do slowly melts down my head during the workday. Ugh. It almost feels like the women in my life have let me down. They havent--- my mom didn't know the correct way to use bobbypins either, until I recently showed her-- it's just hard to believe that during both of our lifetimes, neither of us picked up on this basic girl survival/having hair 101 incredibly helpful tip. No wonder I've always hated up-do's. It's like trying to do division when you haven't yet learned how to multiply.

Big Amateur: I am so frustrated with my hair since I decided to grow it out again. I have no experience with styling hair, whatsoever. I have had it cut short when I was in gradeschoo and I tried growing it out a few years back but I didn't know what to do with it so I cut it off again. Now that I want to actually do something with it, I can't. It's at a leght that makes it tricky already and it curls at the ends constantly and I am so very afraid of hair streighteners. I bought one, but I just don't know how to use it. Today I stood in front of the mirror, the necessary things all at the ready and I ended up so upset and frustrated. It doesn't do what I want it to do and I can't use the streightener because I'm so afraid of it. It makes me want to just cut it off again.

Anjum: I learnt it and subscribed to learn something more.. thank you
