Rooting A Wig Using A Copic Marker- How To Create Darker Roots On A Synthetic Wig

Here is another video where I use a marker to completely change the wig with lowlights:

There are many ways to root a wig. Root touchup spray, root touch up powder, furniture touch up markers, copic markers.... each has their pros and cons. In this video I show you how to root a wig using a copic marker. Thank you to a wig sister in a Facebook group who first told me about this particular marker.

Here is the video I did about a year ago showing this with furniture markers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by1_s4...

This is the marker I used in the color Dark Bark*: https://amzn.to/36th4ov

These are the furniture markers* I have used and like: https://amzn.to/2SrLF1X

Here is the root touch up powder* I like: https://amzn.to/2MHN0NI

Hey everyone I'm here to do a real, quick tutorial on routing a wig with a Copic marker. Now I have done this before with furniture markers and it has worked really well. The one fail that I've had doing that is. I had gotten a blonde wig and I wanted to route it and I think the contrast in the furniture marker and the blonde fiber didn't go well, and so that did not work well. I have found if I want to route a wig, the closer to a brunette, that the wig is the easier it is so I have not used this Copic marker before it's a Copic Sketch marker. I will link it in the bottom. It is dark. Bark is the color if you'll be able to see that dark mark. No one that touch my screen, because then it gets all walk you at the focus, so I'll link it. But this is Jameson in the color caramel kiss m/m means modified and the only thing modified is the cat, not the fiber. So this is essentially caramel kiss. It isn't a rooted version and I really like a little bit of darker brooding, even though it seems like it might be somewhat rooted because the highlights start lower. I do like a little bit of routing, so I thought I'd I'd go with this now. This one isn't this one's got a skinny top and a white top, so I'm gon na go with the white top and I'm just gon na literally paint on to the wig. Just like that, I'm going to look behind in my mirror and I'm just literally gon na paint on the fibers just like I'm drawing on them, I'm going to just do it on this side so that you can see on the other side what this does. I have not done this on here, yet this is your doing it with you guys, I'm trusting that it's gon na work, because I've had great success with furniture markers okay. Can you see there's routing, there's no routing, so I like that a lot now, it's probably a little wet so we'll. Let it dry see that difference no routing over here you can see it's a it's kind of a shadowy shade. It'S not super dark and that's the effect I'm going for. So, if you're looking to route a wig and you can use root, touch-up powder, you can use root spray. You know the kind of spray that people buy like L'Oreal root spray. I don't like those because it coats the fibers. This is not gon na make. My fibers feel yeah it's kind of dry. It doesn't change the texture of my fibers. It has not coated them with anything where a root spray puts a heaviness on the fibers. It'S it's! It'S like a odd feeling. I don't like the way it feels when I use root spray. I know a lot of women do it. So, if you're, if that doesn't bother you going right ahead, this is probably not going to fully wash out. This will wash out a little bit it'll fade, but it might not come completely out, I'm guessing it won't. So that's something to keep in mind if you're looking to do this, but you don't want it to be permanent, a root, touch-up powder or a root. Just like you know, Joan Rivers kind of root powder that will wash out, but I know that I don't need it to come out, so this is gon na work. Just perfect. So just wanted to share that tip with you guys again. Furniture markers like the furniture, touch-up markers work too. You can get them in a pack of multiple colors and then you can kind of experiment with which color gets you the effect that you want. But I wanted. You know that there are options for getting a ring. A wig routed that are viable, not expensive and work. So, if you have questions, let me know, but that's all had to share with you guys today, thanks for watching

Marlene Fab & Glam Over 50: Thanks soooooo much!!!! I've been wanting to root a couple of my wigs and was afraid of the root touch-up sprays. I'm so clumsy and thought i'd go all over the place. This is perfect! Thanks so much for sharing! xoxo Marlene

Monika's Beauty & Lifestyle: Wonderful! I have a couple I would love to root but have been afraid to try it. This looks easy and did a very nice job.

Jude Christenson: Thanks Denise, great advice, I let my granddaughter used furniture marker on one of my extra wigs. She used brown, but when I washed it turn blue and purple. It actually looks kind of cool! Great tips!

Beautiful You Wig Reviews : Looks great! Thanks for the tutorial!

A F: Great tip Denise! I need this in my life! Thank you so much. I’m gonna get me some right away. What color would you suggest for a really light ash blonde?

M Dison: Thanks Denise. Your hair looks fantastic!

Debera Crabb: I really wanted to know how to do this THANK YOU

Doodica: Nice demo. I haven’t really found a rooted wig I like so far....roots always seem too dark for me. I’m working on my unrooted wigs using the Joan Rivers powder. Best results I’ve found for blonds. It gives contrast without going all the way to brown. If I can find a good shade, I’ll definitely try the pens. Thanks for the info!

Super Fun: Thanks for the video! Two questions: 1) Can you use copic on a human hair wig? 2) Do the markers make the hair smell terrible?

Kathleen Beauchemin: Oh great idea! I must say, you are very brave when it comes to trying different things with your wigs! Thank you so much my brave friend

Becky S.: I just rooted a wig yesterday because it had so much blonde and copper on top that it looked fake on me. It was Lexi from Statements (TWC), only paid $30 for her because of their closeout sale. Didn't feel like I had much to lose by practicing on her. She turned out great! I also bought the furniture markers, per your suggestion, and what an even better buy (I think it was a 6 or 7 pack at HDepot for about $6). Also wanted to pass along a tip about steamers. I debated long and hard about what to buy and almost gave in to buying Jr's steamer because of the concentrator nozzle but I didn't want to buy one where it continually steams out. So, I bought the Bissell Steamshot that came with a lot of attachments..one being a small concentrator nozzle. Not only was this half the cost of JR's, I can also clean areas of my house making this a double WIN. On Amazon, it was $39. Has button to press for when you want steam or not. LOVE it!

Roy&Mavis Tanner: I've used the L'Oreal Root Touch-Up spray to root a couple of my blonde wigs and it worked very well, but I agree with you that it leaves a sticky residue on the fibers which I don't like. Even after washing I find it's still there. I've tried furniture markers and found the 'browns' are too reddish for my blonde wigs. The copic marker was the best by far. Thanks for your helpful video! :) ~~Mavis~~

Melanie Taylor: This video is so helpful. I'm debating between estetica ck rooted and r8/26. I like the roots on ck but hate the chunky blonde highlights for my colouring. The other colour has much subtler highlights but is a lighter brown base. I'm thinking now of making its roots darker and scattering some long strands of dark throughout from crown to tips. Thanks to your video I think I'm nearly there!

Maria Grazia Capitani: You are right, root spray does coat the fibres (of course I discovered after you said it) but I had to darken a lot a blonde wig (I do NOT do blonde) so the result for now is fine

Clara: Great tip Denise thanks

Anne F.: Hi Denise - Your wigs coordinate with your eye color so well! I have a question on using furniture markers. I bought an "as is" wig for a great price that didn't have the packaging. The owner of the wig store looked up the wig and indicated it was a human hair wig. I have extensions that are human hair, and this wig doesn't feel quite as soft, but does feel better than some synthetic wigs (maybe it's a combo of human and synthetic?) I'd like to try the furniture marker and thought I could start with an underpiece to see what happens and how the hair takes the marker. Any other advice? I love the wig and don't want to mess it up, but really do want some lowlights. Thank you!

Marlene Olson: This is great! Thanks.

Wyvona Jarrard: Great Infro! Love your videos!

T J: Does it have a chemical odor? I am sensitive to chemical smells. Thank you!

Lisa E: Awesome!

Brenda Jerles: Thanks for sharing Denise!

Wig Journey with Julia: Hi,I like this better then the grey away spray that I have used. Thanks

Robin Poupard: Have you washed it yet? I think it's important to know if it will wash out before we try this.

Appalachian Angel: Is there any way to lighten the roots on a synthetic wig?

mybuggie2: what happens if it rains? does this stuff then melt off?

Jayne White: I use the really wide KOPIC markers and I use bark too they are permanent and I have been doing it for years. I am looking for a lighter brown to do my lighter blond wigs if you find one let me know in this comment. The wider one I use is even wider than the wide end of that one you have. I like them because I do the roots on the whole wig so it really looks natural because our hair grows out all over not just at the part. It takes so much time off using the wide one.

Cathy's Creation and vlog: Never heard of Estetica modified cap. What have they modified on it?

Elizabeth Ortiz: Marker rather then spray. Marker is Best.
