I Used Dawn Dish Soap To Wash My Daughter’S 4C Natural Hair

I wanted to use Dawn dish soap on true natural 4c coarse hair to see if the results would be different. I would not suggest using Dawn dish wash frequently. This should be a very limited thing. Maybe only when your hair has excessive build up. This was my first time trying dish wash to clean Sydney’s hair as a clarifying agent. It worked very well but IDK the last no terms effects. When it doubt, throw it out!! ‍♀️

So here's Sydney's hair, I took out her braids she's been one swimming and you can see all the build-up in her hair product build-up. That was left when I took out D braids and her hair is just dry right now and it's just matted together. So before I put the dawn on her hair, I'm going to section it out until for section not really even section it out just grabbing hair and putting it in for different clips, so we're trying to get every strand of hair wet. We want every piece of hair saturated before we actually get the dawn in her hair, and let me tell you, I was a little nervous about this, because I think I thought it would like really dry her hair out, because you know with a lot of products. They can't dry your hair out, especially like a clarifying shampoo, because I've used clarifying shampoo on her hair and it makes it like brittle and it really doesn't even get every all the product build up out of her hair. So I was like why not try it on you know when I saw other people, do it I'm like okay, so I'm going to take a little quarter sized amount and I'm just going to apply some hair and I'm going to take a sexy bus section and What I saw is that this stuff has amazing slip and I'm just in it lathers really well and, as I'm going section by section, I'm really trying to smooth it in there China I want to like scratch her hair, like rub it intensely, but I don't want Her hair to really matte up, because I don't know how this product will play out but, as I continue to go, this stuff is amazing. Like yes, Sydney has 4c hair. So when I saw other people do this, they didn't have 4c hair. They had like four a3b, you know not the real deal. 4C hair, you know, and Sydney has the real deal. So I was like. Let me try, but as I continued putting it in in her hair, I saw that this stuff really works. It does not dry out the hair honey, and the only thing I do kind of regret is because I was scared of what the dawn just show would do to her hair. I thought it was going to dry it out. So only put a little bit in there so next time around. If I use this, which I probably will I do recommend this - I want you to see for yourself, but I'm telling you now. I recommend this for 4c hair because it really got every speck of dirt. Out of her hair, I mean not every speck, but if I would have used a little bit more, it would have got everything, so I would have used a little bit more. I was trying to be careful, so I didn't use as much but as you can see, I was going back and using the previous sets because, like I said I was trying to be careful, but I will say you guys can use more. Just like you are generous with your shampoo or your conditioner, you can be generous with this soap, just go ahead and keep watching. So I'm on the last section of her hair, and this dawn is just working amazing. It kind of elongates her hair. It doesn't make it shriveled up. It doesn't have that weird film on it or it doesn't have that texture that you think your hair is too dry, and you know it kind of makes that sound. Like wool. You know when your hair is dry. It does not do that at all. It'S just like a regular moisturizing shampoo that really clarifies the hair, so I'm going to I'm trying to work it in lather it up. The like the lather is amazing. The slip is amazing. Look at her hair. What do y'all think so now? Another part that was amazing to me is the rinse. The rinse was so easy. Usually it takes a lot for me to rinse out the shampoo, but it was so easy and quick. I was like okay. Well, we got going on here so continue watching after I rinse everything out her hair, so you can see what's really real now that the dawn is completely rinsed out of her hair. Take a look. Her hair is still bouncy. It'S still. It'S not tangled. I mean not as tangled as before, I put the dawn in her hair, and that was my worst fear for her hair to become dried out. Just a tangled mess stuck together, but it really helped it really moisturize her hair and let those strands become one and that tangled like it was before yeah just look at it. Has that bounce it's full of life, and then I thought was going to be my backup to add moisture, because you always follow up with a second shampoo, but I didn't need to so. I just added this deep condition mask from. Can it's called texture? This is my first time using it and it did say it was new, so I just went ahead and I applied that to her hair and I left that on for about 15 minutes and her hair is great. It'S just like now, I'm about to style. It really I just wanted to come on here and show you guys how Sydney's hair turned out with me using the dawn. I was just really curious to see how it will work on 4c hair because I haven't seen any videos with people using it washing their 4c hair. So I would say it's a thumbs up for me. If you're not into this and you like girl, you don't weigh too much the I'll stick to my clarifying shampoo go ahead and do that, but I know that I will be using this dawn again and her hair look at it. She has the moisture that she needs. It'S not dried up. I'M gon na trim her ends and I'll probably put a couple braids in her hair because she does have school in two weeks. So I'm not gon na do nothing crazy because I'm gon na have to take it out in two weeks and y'all know me my Styles, her last braids were in for a month and I plan on doing a month or two for her school hairstyle. So I'm not going to do anything crazy, cuz, y'all know what with me and my daughter, do my hairstyles um. I thank you for watching and if you have any suggestions, just go ahead and throw them in the comment box or if you have something I should do next time or if you didn't like this, tell me or just tell me how crazy I am. You know y'all, never, you know hold your tongue before, so don't do it now, and I thank you guys for watching. If you haven't subscribed, go ahead and subscribe and press that notification bell, so you can be notified every time I post a new video and I will see you in my next video. I hope this helped bye.

ItsTasha: Watch Dawn gonn’ come out with a whole hair line

Regine k.: Despite this being kind of a shock, you'd be surprised that some of the ingredients in dish soap be in some shampoos too. To be honest, whatever works for your hair, stick to it.

TashasCraftCorner: When I was a working Master Cosmetologist, I used dawn all the time. It removes product buildup and dirt like no other. Be sure to use your normal conditioning and/or oil treatments afterwards. Just be careful to not overuse dawn. Your hair will love you for it!

Asheka Newman: I've never seen a natural hair texture like that in its dry state! It's almost like a yarn consistency. Absolutely beautiful!

Shivani Singh: Using dish soap once in a while is not gonna hurt you guys, chill!! It helps you to remove all the build up you have in your hair like dandruff , extra oil, dirt.

Angela Sharp: My brother used to wash his hair with Dawn years ago when he was a teenager. His hair was so oily and it cut the grease!

Caroline Laronda: Sulfates / surfactants are what make soap lather and are essentially what dries it out to strip all the oil . There’s no way this won’t dry it out . “Dawn cuts the grease “ ..

LaKisha Evans: Its okay for every now and then. Deep condition it after as she's doing. It just gets it really clean. Its fine.

YAH is my refuge: I washed my hair with Dawn dish detergent over 15 or so years ago and my hair started shedding like crazy , I thought I was going bald , I had to go to a beautician to get a conditioning/ protein treatment to make it stop falling out.It stripped too much of my natural oils and almost ruined my hair, I never done that again learned my lesson!!!

Danica Dior: Can’t wait to give this a try after a 4-6 week protective style, I haven’t found a clarifying shampoo I love in 9 years of being natural. Thanks for sharing!

LUVTika: Nice. I've used Dawn in my hair to remove buildup for years. It strips my hair but I deep conditioned after...never had an issue. I know different methods now so I haven't done it in years. It works wonders on getting bonding glue out tho.

Loves Yehushua: Not a big deal. We used regular soap, 'blue soap'. Jamaicans call it 'cake soap' to wash our hair growing up. Blue soap is not a bath soap. It is usually used to do laundry. Hell, we would have used dawn but it was probably too expensive lol. Our hair flourished anyway. It is about adding moisture back to the hair and (sealing with blue magic lol) not overdoing it. Those were the good old days.

Tiffany N. Lowder: I’ve used Dawn when I need to cleanse my hair if I am having an allergic reaction or strip my hair of excessive product buildup. I have 4b/c hair and I also have severe allergies to certain oils or ingredients in natural hair products that did not develop until I became an adult. One way I get immediate relief for a mild/non life threatening reaction is by using Dawn.

xaixaia: As a Sisterlocks consultant of 2 decades I have been having my clients use dawn essentials or reg blue dawn as a clarifying shampoo for oil/sebum build up. Hasn’t disappointed in 20 years.

Marva CB: I have sister locks and for build up, I spray my scalp with Braggs apple cider vinegar and water mix. It works well too. Moisturize well and she should be ok with the Dawn, especially if you don’t use it too often. Her little face is super cute

ellen dry-solomon: I used to have very thick hair down my back and could never wash and comb through it myself so it became a 3 day weekend job for my mom. Then I used dawn when I was 13 and was finally able to comb through my hair after washing it.

Todi Ann: I used dawn detergent when I wanted every hair product out of my hair. It works well. I had to use it on my body when I had poison ivy. The stuff is multi use, love it.

JoAnne Davis: I have been using Dawn for years it really gets all the build up and product out of your hair. You can really see the difference.

Zalisha Inniss: This is about to go right into my shampoo bottle, when I'm done use it loved the video ❤

Colette-Marie: I used dawn on my hair back when I was doing glue in weaves..worked perfectly. I also mixed olive oil with it.

Summyr: I use dawn before too some shampoos don’t get everything out of the hair

ShavonJenae #QueenIAm: I love Dawn and have used it in my hair before as well. The only thing I would suggest is that you add some natural oils such as coconut oil to her hair as you wash it to balance it out because dawn definitely strips it if it’s natural oil. A deep conditioning helps after the washing as well. Have you ever tried doing an ACV (apple cider vinegar) rinse. It get all that build up out naturally. Then wash her hair with a conditioner and that will do the job.

ydsmithaz: I would have never tried this on my baby! Thank goodness it worked out for this little girl! Dawn is a pretty harsh detergent that can irritate skin and eyes if not careful.

Mrs.Bunny Brooks: I love dawn!!!!! I use it on my puppy she is super allergic to everything. She loves it when she gets a bathy now. And her fur is super super soft and smooth! I use dawn for everything including cleaning hard stains on gentle clothing. And it doesn't ruin my hands. I even have it in my bathroom hand soap dispensers.

therealglitter808: My grandpa worked in the trades and he always had a big jug of Dawn in his shower exactly for this reason - it will thoroughly clean anything off your skin & hair without damaging it or sink drains. I’m glad it worked good for your baby!

Mytia Walker: I use dawn on my hair, but only as a hair reset every 6 months to a year. Depends on your hair type, and your product use. Dawn works great if your hair styling products have silicones, waxes, ect. But dawn takes grease out the way, it will strip the hair of its natural oils. So a deep detangling leave in conditioner will work wonders, after using dawn. But dawn will give the hair a nice spring back to weighed down hair.

Mona: I love it It's about the amount of dirt , flakes and build up on the hair. It cleans without leaving any residue. Because baby let me tell you....I knew someone had a sew in for 4 months. The hair was healthy....but SOOO MUCH DIRT BUILDUP! Therefore I agree with her using just a small amount of Dawn for an amazing clean

Joy'sCurls: She's so cute when she's trying to get her own hair wet without getting water in her eyes lol. You should get a little shampoo brush and that'll make it easier to get the debris off the scalp. Especially after taking down protective styles, etc.

Kia TV: Your baby girl is gorgeous! Y'all make me wanna go back natural!

AMichelle: When will we learn to stop judging the actions of others when it works for them? Geez. There is no size fits all approach to life. Plus she knew the kind of responses she would get. Very strategic indeed...lol

Life of Chanita: I thought the dawn really had a great lather and it looked like it softened her hair up quite a bit. It does remove grease so that actually is not a bad idea lol. But as for the deep conditioner mask....imma need that asaply. Her hair looked amazing during the rinse out. Great job Mom

Quetta Bridgett: Yeeesss! I use dawn also especially when I have tracks in my hair it helps with removing the Glue and the tracks out of my hair...Great video

AngelVerse: Everyone talking about how bad this is. Me sitting here remembering I did this when we didn't have enough money for body soap/shampoo

Maryanne Braxton you look fantastic.: You did a fantastic job on your baby's hair. Dawn dish detergent really works and I wish more mothers like you I would take the chance and use this

loveinspired7: Dawn is the ONLY thing I use to wash my locs... It was suggested to me to remove build-up from beeswax (which NOBODY should ever put in their hair again), locking gels and cremes, etc... I tried Dawn just once, and I never looked back!❤ It's a miracle worker!

LaKisha Evans: My Grandma says use dish liquid every now and then... I love it on my 4c natural hair. The cleanliness is different from shampoo. No build up no residue. And my hair moves when i blow it out myself. Head and shoulders gives the same effect. Clean scalp=no clogged pores=healthy hair=growth.

Yvonne Robert-Carr: Sydney makes cute funny faces. The way she tries to shower her own hair in the beginning tickled me. Using Dawn is pretty new to me. I'd like to see a follow up of how her hair turned out after it dried. What was the long term effect?

BowensEntertainment: This is nice and will be the new thing to do for those that like trying out new routines. You go girl!!

Tiff'sTravels2012: Is it OK to use Dawn to wash your hair? "Yes, using Dawn Dish Soap is safe to use in your hair. But it will strip your natural hair of its oils. (oils that are important for hair growth). Naturals should use it as a clarifying shampoo, not a regular one."

WeAreCreatorz: Washed my hair in the sink today. I filled the sink up and do the cup thing and put a few drops of Dawn in to soften the water and help clean my thiccc hair. I used my regular shampoo which is a moisturizing shampoo, so it helped clean it and lather it

Missy Pooh: Dawn or Palmolive is excellent clarifying shampoo. I use it all the time and deep condition after. No need for expensive products. Everything she said in the video is true. It really works on 4c hair with no damage.

chapel2: Glad to see you took a chance and used this on your daughter's hair. I have 4c hair and use Dawn monthly. Keep a hair journal and record how the hair behaves to certain products and ingredients. Don't be afraid to (safely) experiment from time to time. I've been natural for over a decade and finally learned to trust my own experiences with my hair. Many of the things I do are frowned upon, but my results are spectacular. There is still so much we don't yet understand about type 4 hair. A breakthrough is coming...

user739: For everyone hating , when i was in cosmetology school we had dawn dishsoap on hand in the wash house to use as a clarifying shampoo

Marcella Pratt: I've tried it also and it really does work guys, reminder they use dawn for oil spills and animals In seas and oceans, works for detangling, dandruff, excessive oil, deep condition an moisturize.

Detrick Fagan: I'm reading these comments, and laughing at most of them. Growing up, my parents NEVER bought shampoo and almost NEVER bought bar soap. Dawn was an 'everything' use at home. I don't remember what she used as lather on her head, but I remember her using scalding hot water, vinegar and egg yolk. (Should have paid more attention.) But the point is, Dawn was our shampoo, bath soap, dish detergent, mopping floors, cleaning the kitchen, killing ants, washing the car [we didn't know the damage, we were kids], and hand washing some items. At least that was my childhood.

Tona Batista: Bebê linda e cabelo lindo, super fofa.

trice free: I used Dawn when I permed my hair and the perm was so hard to wash out so I had to do something or cut off my hair . Dawn worked wonders as well as Palmolive . This is old school techniques mom used on us back in the day. Nothing new ...

Natalie R. Family: I’ve been using dawn soap for a while now. I didn’t know people actually used it.. I do it from time to time on my hair when I really want to get alL The build up out of my hair.

Sophie K Davis: I always used dish soap when i used to wear extensions it works so well for build up x

Eli Malachi puppet: Her freaking skin is glowing and gorgeous!

Jenene Grimes: Remember it soaks up oil in dishes. I used it on my sebhorrhea and it works to pull all of the excess oil from my scalp. But it dries it out as well.

𝔹𝕦𝕥𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕁𝕦♡︎: She did it right yes girl her hair is Beautiful that it is she’s just like you

Madiha Khalid: I really enjoyed watching mom and daughter washing hair.

Raya Nechole: I work in a factory making cat parts & If I have an oily day, I use dawn as body wash, I say if it's safe for the duckies, it's safe for me! Lol! Never used it as a shampoo but it's also never crossed my mind.... I just now ran across your page so I have no idea of history with her but have you tried to see if she'd like to loc her hair? P.s. very beautiful daughter & hair!

Teacher Dee Dee's World: She's sooo precious, her hair is growing nicely

Lioness444: Nice! Her hair is absolutely beautiful.

Autumn Asters: TBH I'm just glad that I clicked on this video and this child actually has 4C hair. There's been so much generalizing for people who don't have 3c hair to where it just automatically gets thrown into the 4c category. I thought I had 4c hair for the longest... So you can imagine how disappointed I was when I tried to achieve that cloud like Puff that naturally comes with it

Veronica Thomas: I’ve been purchasing expensive shampoos to get buildup out of my locs and I never get the suds I want; Then the buildup is still there (ugh!). This might be the answer I’ve been looking for. Definitely trying this next wash day.

TheeForeva_Rose: Hey lovely mommas — I have a friend with a new foster child who has 4C hair .. can you recommend products to wash, condition, moisture , and style that are pocket friendly?? I know about a few products but the help from people that have done this their whole lives could be a MASSIVE HELP!

InspiredbyJ at Home: Most shampoos strip your hair of oils especially if it's a clarifying shampoo so I don't see an issue. I've used regular soap and dish soap on both my body and hair growing up on occasions. Shampoo strips it and conditioner reverts it. All she needs is a good hot oil treatment and it'll be ok. This isn't an everyday wash routine people chill out. There are too many shampoos out there y'all use without knowing how it'll effect you or your child's hair but because it says "natural" y'all use it.

Samantha Young: Yup, this works wonders!!! I started back using petroleum to seal my hair... only Dawn will remove Vaseline... LOL.. going back to childhood routine now my hair is almost midback

MsPrincess8585: Dawn is LIFE. I use it on my Sisterlocks and typically only have to wash once whereas with other shampoo I have to wash 3 times

Dana Ion: I would thin down the dawn before applying it to make it 'spread' through the hair but otherwise its perfectly safe for hair. Perfectly safe for rescued wildlife too

Gloria Valentine: I think you are a smart, wonderful young mom. Keep up the good work & bring us Anything innovative no matter how outlandish it may seem. I wanna know. God Bless you & your family.

Xafir: Guys chill XD She‘s using it to clarify every once in a while not every day lol

Vee Daisy: Sydney is soooo cute and tender headed like me awwww ❤️ I also do 4C hair care on my channel feels good finally finding methods that actually work for our hair!

Hanging With The Washington's: Yes! I use it in mines and my daughters hair. I add moisturizing shampoo as well. I never told ppls because afraid of what they say. But it does work! And clarifying shampoo does make the hair brittle.

Tangles unTamed: I am so glad you did this review. I almost had to use Dawn one other time bc I had crazy buildup in my hair. I ended up using something else bc my friends told me I was crazy. So I spent $16 on a fancy chelating shampoo when I could’ve used $1.50 for some Dawn don’t worry I shared it!!

Papi Love: When I was in beauty school our instruction said we also can use dish liquid soap without bleach as a clarifier. But we do not need to use it on a regular basis once a month was good. Thanks for sharing the video

Deborah Neely: I would like to try this on my granddaughters hair, not sure my daughter in law will allow it. I would suggest, that you apply the dawn on dry roots, massage in then add the water, then lather up leaving it on for the amount of time you deem necessary. She's so adorable!

Alex chen: This little girl is so cute, especially those eyes

Erin Harris: Yep Dawn or Main and Tail does wonders my mom use them when we were little and our hair was down our backs

Monique JEWEL: How on earth did anyone, for crying out loud thought of ever using Dawn liquid dish soap on hair. I can't get over this.

R C: I used dish washing degergent on my hair one time and it burned my scalp. I would be scared to put dawn on my hair. I know hey used Dawn on birds to wash away the oil during an oil spill but I would be to afraid to use it.

young nurse: I would have loved to seen how her hair looked after you blow dried it . To me that's the real test To see if it was moist looking or dry looking.

Amazing Brothers!: My hairstylist washes my hair and I feel like closing my eyes! My husband washed my hair and i feel like yelling at him. This girl must feel relaxing!

Triquita Hollowell: If you want to clean well with one shampoo try a neutralizing shampoo it's designed for the hair and removes build up. Then follow with conditioner. Vinegar and water in water let it set then a shampoo and conditioner works as well. I have actually used both and it works out great.

skit läppar: speaking as someone who has just straight/wavy hair, i have so much respect for anyone who has this type of hair, its so gorgeous

KRISHETTE Ringgold: My mom use to give us bubble baths with dish soap back in the 80s it was the best baths of my life I was white when I got out

Ramona: Before I started making home made products I used Dawn on EVERYTHING.( I still do low key). Btw Dawn is used to help wash animals who get polluted with oil spills in our oceans. I always use a clarifying shampoo. Never used oil based soap with the moisturizers because you are defeating the purpose of CLEANING your hair. Wash CONDITION and guess what next? Moisturize on wet ( HYDRATED ) hair. ❤

Xoxo_.leyley: I would recommend to use canto shampoo for her hair it works really good ✅

Bitchh ;P: Im sitting here with my hair that I haven’t washed in 3 weeks, that wasn’t in a protective style...wondering what shampoo I can use for two shampooings without my hair becoming dryer than the Sahara desert.

Briana Rodarte: I remember when I was 10 we ran out of shampoo, and my mom told me to use some dawn. Tore my hair up! And I got bumps all over my face and neck. I'm so glad it worked for her.

Dawn Bell: I'm a cosmetologist and don't recommend this, not so much that it would damage her hair but the possibility of getting it into her eyes.

Suus Suzy: Actually this makes sense. I live abroad and a special Curly hairdresser who stays busy and booked. So bad that I haven't been aible to schedule an appointment for months uses this to strip her cliënts hair before treatment. When I heard this I was shooked, but tried it and it worked. I wouldn't use it every week. If u add in the moistere afterwards your be alright.

JD: My mom went to Home Depot bought some planks of wood, went to Joann’s bought a waterproof piece of leather and a bag of cushion insert, hammered the “stopper” piece in place, and staple gunned the cloth and cushion into a washing board to lay over the toilet and tub. Twenty-five years later we don’t use it anymore but it’s still held together. Honestly though, my mom’s back might’ve appreciated us standing up like in this video more.

DanymarieXO: My parents use to do this when I was a kid after going to the ocean.

BB 2019: I'm going to use this technique on my daughter's hair. She has extremely thick, tight coiled hair & I always feel like shampoo just doesn't cut it. Even after washing it several times in a row I'm so happy to come across this definitely going to try. Thank you!!!

Kayla Steen: I thought I was the only 4C gal who did this! Dawn for the win!

Mrs. PuPu: She is too cute...Im a cosmetologist and I do not recommend replacing your regular shampoo for Dawn. Dawn strips oil from our hair. I think its best to always use a moisturizing shampoo on our 4C hair, not a clarifying shampoo because it strips the hair as well. I would use apple cider vinegar to remove product build up from the hair.. Remember Dawn Dish Soap contains formaldehyde like many dish soaps...with cancer on the rise...we have to be extremely careful! BTW ❤ this video

Yasmine Jefferson: OMG the memories my dad used this on me when I was little. I grew up the on a farm and up dirt in my hair. He had to think fast and his aunt came i just in time too. When my momma came home my hair was washed pressed and plaited up

Carmencita Davis: I was just reading about this on Google and it says you should only use Dawn dish soap as a clarifying shampoo not as a regular shampoo, because it will strip the hair it's natural oils in the hair because Dawn dish liquid soap is specially made to cut the Grease so it's definitely going to strip the oils from her hair

y3llow: so many negative people in the comments most people used dawn in their hair when they didn’t have shampoo anyways so what’s the big deal my mom used dawn on my hair once and it was completely fine ! i wanted to say that your daughter is very pretty and this video was very informing !<3

Ebone Carter: Dish washing fluid is made to break down grease and can even stain silverware so just imagine what it does to hair strands

Strawberry Díaz: I’ve never seen or heard about this in my entire life...

Ranita Gadling: I actually did that once ( but I'm grown) & it was the biggest beauty mistake that I've ever made thankfully though I've never ever ever ever had to repeat it.

WHO TOLD YOU THAT!?: While working at an alternative high school, When we had kids that came to school with really bad dandruff and build up we’d let them go to cosmetology lab and wash their hair with Tide and it completely cleaned the scalp and hair , so if they can use Dawn to save the wildlife and birds effected by an oil spill certainly it can remove build up on our hair

Demetria Ware: I used my Neutrogena body wash for my hair about 2 months ago because I had a lots of edge control in my hair and jam among other hair products when I got my box braids installed and using the typical shampoos and conditioners that I use for my hair like shea moisture or the natural Pantene it was not getting everything that built up out of my hair so yes when I need my hair to be stripped completely I do use this method but I make sure I hydrate my hair a lot and get that moisture back into it that it needs.

REEZY 😩✨: I’ve never thought of trying this I have type 4C hair and I ran out of shampoo so I might try this

imani steel: Part the scalp before washing and base it with vinegar. Then scrub the hair with shampoo. Takes the dirt and dandruff if there is any , right off and leaves the hair very shiny. Not to be done too often but when needed.
