The Art Of Ventilating With Ricky Greenwell

This video will show you the basic steps need in ventilating hair into lace.

Oh, hey great s'more came yesterday, huh sure was Wow where'd you get that nifty beard. Well, let me show you um hello. My name is Ricky green well and I'm going to share with you some tips and techniques on ventilating various facial hair pieces. First things. First, I'm going to walk you through some of the simple pieces that you need for ventilating and then I'm going to share with you some techniques on working with hair and lace together. So the first crucial item that you're going to need is a ventilating hook and holder and whatever you use for your ventilating hole or whatever is most comfortable for you. The big key is you're ventilating hook itself. They come in various sizes based on the amount of hair that you're wanting to grab with each ventilation. So your hook and your holder is the biggest process if you've ever latched hooked a rug as a child. It'S a similar process, so you have a leg up, but it's a much smaller scale, but what you're going to be dealing with and then your so once you have your ventilated hook and holder you're going to deal with various types of laces. What I'm going to be ventilating on today, and what we're going to have for demo in the back is a a crowd. What'S referred to as a crowd lace, it is a bigger scale, lace, a little easier to start to learn on, but not what you're going to be making mustaches with it is what we actually put in the Crown's of wigs. It is a diamond shaped pattern, so it's a little bit bigger and you really only see it and mostly for the most part in crowns. What you're going to ventilate your moustaches out of there's two different types of laces here. One is a theatrical lace for facial hair pieces or for front pieces. The other is a film quality piece, and it's just based on its personal preference. Your film quality piece is the more expensive price per yard than what generally your theatrical pieces, and it's just about distance of where you're working from you also have to figure out where you're going to get your hair from. I tend to like to work with wefted hair as opposed to loose hair, and I get most of my hair from local sources like Sally Beauty Supply because they're pretty much everywhere unless I have to deal with a specialty hair. That'S when I custom order and then a lot of times those orders come in on loose hair. The big thing to remember is knowing where your blunt in versus your point in your point ends are the tip of the hair. The blunt end is where it would attach to the scalp. If you were, if you ventilate upside down what happens as you backcomb the hair. Every time you go in to comb the hair, which you don't want to do when you're ventilating, the other set of little simple tools, a type of hammer, I like to use a tacking hammer, as opposed to you, know, claw hammer per se and then just wig Points so that I can actually secure my lace into place and then of just the scissors that you feel comfortable as far as cutting hair with, and I just want to show you three simple examples of pieces that I have ventilated or worked on this piece here In particular, is a hoo Manchu piece that I ventilated probably over 12 years ago, it has gone worked through many shows. It originally started up gray. I have since died it for other productions. It has gone through a lot of productions. It has held up really. Well, it is starting to show a little bit of wear and tear and some of the edges, but it's I mean it has gone through a number of performances and has worked and is lasting, pretty well and it hasn't thinned out really much at all. The next piece is just a simple goatee piece that has, it has been: it's been vented with a highlight into it, so that it is for an you, know, an older actor that has the Grays with the hair color, and it is just a nice example of Saying Banting that is dealing with different hair colors and I have a front piece off of a wig. It'S a nice sample because you really with the black and white sample you get to see the various knots and you can actually see the knot, detail and variation. That'S going to be in there and it's just what would be fronted top of a wig itself. Okay, so now I'm going to share with you the technique of ventilating. First, you want to loop a little bit of hair into between your forefinger and thumb and you're, going to take your ventilating hook, underneath your lace you're, going to let the hook once again grab the hairs that it wants, and you want to make sure that you Have an even tension, you're going to come under the lace, then your hair is going to go to the middle, the bend of the hook you're going to wrap around and then pull through and you're going to pull in the direction. You want your hair to to grow in on whatever your piece is so once again, I'm going to take my hook underneath I'm going to actually let it grab the hair that it wants to keeping even tension to the middle I'm going to wrap around and then Pull through so that I have a nice knot once again, let's speed it up a little bit grabbing the hair roll around in the middle wrapping around and pulling through, and you just keep doing the same process until you have a full piece or a mustache wrap Around and go through, so I'm going underneath my legs, letting it grab hair going to the middle. I'M wrapping around my needle through the hole that I created and pulling it out once again wrap letting it grab the hair wrapping up. Wrapping around going through you'll see that all of my hair is growing in the direction that I'm pulling away from, and you just keep doing this until you have a completed piece. So a double knot, application. So a double knot is I'm taking my needle underneath Elise pulling my hair go through wrap around then I go through a second time the wrap around it's the process of a double knot. Once again, here, our new lace pickup here twists, underneath go around bend coming back around a second time. Here is just a reminder of some of the tools. You'Ll need for the art of ventilating. You'Ll need ventilating hooks and holders appropriate lace for whatever project you're working with Wiig points, so that you can secure that lace to the head block attacking hammer to secure your wig points into your head block or chin block any hair needed for whatever project scissors. So that you can cut that hair comb so that you can work within the hair and pliers so that you can remove the wig points when you are done well now that you know how to tie a simple knot, our hair into lace, you're. Well, on your way to making your own facial hair pieces, one more piece that I want to share with. You is one of my favorite sources for ventilating lace and needle size de mais de Mayo, brothers out of New York. So wonderful people to give a call they'll be happy to help you out with any project so enjoy and then no time at all you'll have a mustache piece custom-built for yourself Wow. Now it's easy. We had fun yes now. You too can make great beard such as these good, bye, bye,

Samantha Mz. Lace Burks: @rickyg439 Thank's Ricky for the insight it worked more so than not. I will be practicing consistantly until I perfect this craft. I wish you had more vids. Anywho thanks a bunch again. Oh yeah I started wit the synthetic jus because I knew it would be a lil more of a challenge to ventilate.

Ray Padilla: Ricky; Thank you for your vid. Question; can you tell me where guy get all you supplies for the art of ventilating? Thank you Ray

bbrabant: I used this party to help me create a straight hair front for a curly wig. She has a widows peak and pulls her hair back to a headband, then has tight curls. It turned out really well!

Gia Santoni: Great video! Where can I get large pieces of crown lace from?

Diamond Pink: Yes finally someone that take their time to show the lace part yay

Thias Tekai: Thank You! Much Needed!!!

E_mailMeLater: WOW, this is a good ventilating video. When you loop the hair in one hand, is the hair longer on one side? From what i understand from your video I DONT want to use the wrong end of the hair for the knot. I would think having one end shorter would make the hair look super think at the root and thin toward the bottom.

Ricky Greenwell: Alcone and De Meo Brothers are two great sources for lace and needles

Cynthia Garcia: I’m trying to figure out how to make a pull through topper. Do you think you would ever show how to make one?

mrs fabulous: Hi there. thank you for replying to my recent question. I am using 1pc Ventilating needle 1-2):length: 12mm. easy hook 1-2strands hair per time; (use for Skin,Toupee & Lace net); 1pc Ventilating needle 2-3):Length 18mm. easy hook 2-3 strands hair per time;(use for Lace net etc.) Am i using the wrong needles of is it just that im not doing it properly? Pls help!

Sasha-Shae: Hi there! Where exactly do you get your needles/hooks and holders as well as the wig head blocks??

ILoveToScrub: how do you make the hook not catch on the lace when you are pulling it through after you have caught the hair on it? thanks

Ricky Greenwell: I am looping the hair back I hold about an inch of hair just enough to create a loop but not enough to create a long tail back on itself.

Dorothy Brown: Im expanding the wig division of my business, the video is very helpful

tammy5966: very nice I was wondering where did where did she get the hook from and the fabric

Samantha Mz. Lace Burks: Thank you Ricky for this, I have come so far since my post to your video.

sanyuable: thx Ricky , best teacher of the year .

Liz Lele: Thanks! What should I do with the tail end of the hair I ventilate? I snipped it close to the knot and it feels spikey

Nrala Janvier: Hello, what would be the difference between the single and double knot?? When would I need the single vs needing the double? Thank you

Keyanna Serf: Omg thank you soooo much for this!!!!!

BeingKrystle: Honestly!! I ve only gotten to 3:24 'the materials' section and I'm sooo excited about this...I feel so informed already!!! Desire McKnight: Awesome job!!

Carolyn Best: thanks...however, when venting do you vent every row or every other row, or every hole or every other hole (you get my drift). What is your pattern of venting to get that nice "flow" to a unit when it looks like a person "runs their fingers thru their hair"? Is it different directions to venting certain parts of the unit?

Owen Artucilla: sir you precisely got my ways how i wanted to do it in learning how to vent thank u and mabuhay ....from philippines....

Noxious Bunny: great video! Are you supposed to fold the hair in half or just a little?

A_World _Full_Of_ Lies: Wow Thanks Ricky!! :) I think I got this now!

Ashley NM: thank you! what kind of lace is that?

Jaye L: When you make your loop to hold in your fingers do you loop near where the hair was cut from the weft or in the middle of the strands?
