Cutting Emo/Scene Hair Tutorial

ya

This is going to be a tutorial on how to cut emo scene hair, so my hair is already done. I don't need to trim it for a while, but i do have this ridiculously thick wig that i bought off d-pop a while ago and i've been meaning to cut it, and i guess this is a good excuse to get it done. So i'm gon na give her the little seam kid treatment and i'm gon na put her on real quick. My wig is on it's a middle part, which is gon na, be an issue for me, but i'll figure, something out so i'm gon na decide where i want my wig to part. Well, i'm trying to teach you how to cut your hair, not a wig. So, let's pretend this is actually growing out of my scalp. Usually i would take it like right to where my ear is is where i would start my fringe section. Oh, this looks like it's going to do the parting for me, but it's something like this point of my ear and then it makes kind of a circle mine in real life in real life. My actual, like head hair kind of, goes a little bit further back, but i think people are usually supposed to do it closer to your forehead. So you don't end up with like a huge section of bangs. It just goes around and that's the front section of my hair tie this back, so i can worry about it later is an insane amount of hair. Ah, i don't like how that feels so foreign i like to start with my ear area first, so i'm gon na take the fringe section. I'M gon na move it away. Oh shove, this out of here. For now, i'm just gon na start thinning. I'Ve got my trash can near me for all of the hair that i'm about to shed. This is a lace front too. I wish i knew a single thing about lace fronts. The way that i like to thin my hair is i comb it. I said i comb it out. I decide where i want my shortest layer to be maybe like. Let'S go to my lip area and i'm just gon na cut diagonally start layering, pull it away. Uh! Yes, my dollar tree hair cutting scissors pieces are not gon na work for me, so i got my eyebrow razor. This is what i usually use to cut my own hair. So i hope this doesn't this actually works? Oh, that is so much better. I like this for layering a lot more than scissors, because i feel like i have a lot more control over where the layers actually go. I still need to decide how long i want this my fringe in real life. I think right now it's about to hear like with seeing kids you want it to be like short and choppy, so let's go short and choppy. That'S better. I'M gon na do my little method again, pull it. This way huge amount of hair. So this is how long i'm gon na make my fringe i'm gon na. Do that to the other side, i already managed to make a mistake on the first step. This part, the bottom is supposed to be the longest because layers i already. I don't even think my part is the same, but it's okay, it doesn't have to be perfect. This one is, i forgot to make it the longest part. It'S fine nobody's going to be like investigating my wig or your hair nobody's going to be going very deep into that. Another thing you want to do is, or at least i like to do a little bit of face. Framing i feel like it makes everything come together. Better is a good start now, the fringe, i think, i'm just gon na chop cuz, since this hair is so long. I'M gon na chop above where this ended up. If you're chopping make sure you always go way lower than you actually want your length to be, because if you chop, where you want your length to be, they will end up where you don't want them, and you will regret it. Oh god, i can't see what i'm doing it's fine. This is why we go along. You see how shitty these scissors are cut. The hair please yay now the most important part of seeing slash, emo hair is where you part it, because you, oh god, damn it's gon na, be an issue. You want to part your hair before you start cutting, because otherwise it might not end up where you want to go, i'm going to try straightening it in the right direction. I'Ve been having some real trouble trying to get this wig to stay in the right place, but i think it's more manageable than before. If you're wondering how i did that, i just straightened it in place and then clipped it and let it cooled. And now it's better it's kind of a lump here, but i'll worry about that later. Well, i'm going to start cutting diagonally. So i want my shortest layer to be about here, so i'm just gon na start cutting about there. I'M gon na have synthetic hair all over my bathroom floor for the next week. This is like glitter, that's starting to be where i like it. I'M gon na go layer by layer, i think and start cutting off some length. If i can see, i want my shortest layer to be about here, so i'm going to start cutting there. Since this part, the shortest part of your bangs are probably going to be part of the top layer. You want it to be about the same length as what you did through the start of your bangs. There'S, really no like method for what i usually do. I just kind of start hacking away. I worry about like perfection once i get all the main off, just kind of feel it and feel where the hair wants to go, how long it wants to be. I wish i had more of a tutorial for this part that i'm doing i'm just eyeballing it. One thing that i like to do a lot is just like run my fingers through my hair and see what bits are too long relative to like the bits around them. That'S pretty good! So far, despite you know the horrific parting job that i'm gon na have to deal with, let my eyes breathe. Okay, this is cute we're getting somewhere it's cute compared to what i have been looking at for the past half hour. However long i've been doing this, i think i'm gon na with this a little bit more like the layers choppier, because it ended up being shorter, but i wanted it to. I guess it doesn't really matter like. I prefer my ear bits to be symmetrical because it just makes my brain feel better. This is so itchy. I see a lot of cnn emo kids like with this part, is really long, and this part is really short and that's like totally a thing. If you totally up your plans like me, have no fear just cut more and trust me, i'm not just like going ham on this, because, like i'm lazy and just recording a video like this, is actually how i cut my own hair. Okay, let's see what it looks like with the clip down. Oh well, i can't see what it looks like with the clip down. That'S cute. Look at her all right guys, let's open the beast, oh god, i'm gon na be sweating. I don't like that. God my arms feel itchy. I'M gon na have to lint roll myself she's brushed. Please don't give me any issues, but i know you will. I know, since this isn't a real head. This isn't going to be very helpful for how i should tell you to part your hair, but mine. It does this, but then the back section it kind of just goes like i don't know it just kind of goes into like a hook shape. That'S just kind of where it falls. I guess i'm gon na start cutting. I just want to be doing this for the next hour. So it's like the same thing i did over here. I just decide where i want my smallest layer to be now. Judging off of what i cut over here, it looks like it's going to be about here. That'S an absurd amount of hair that is coming off of this wig right. Now, first layer has been cut. I think i just keep chopping from whatever is the topmost layer so see, since i already did this layer, i'm gon na go below it and then, after i'm done with this layer, i'm gon na go below that. You also want to keep your layers in line with what you did to your bangs makes things look a little bit more put together. I guess i think i'm getting somewhere go over here, see what i can cut with the back. I really severely eyeball it like. This is just a guessing game, all right guessing guessing. I wish i was able to record this on my shitty camera on my 2004 camera. It would feel a lot more in the spirit of cutting emo scene hair. Make sure all my layers are corresponding nicely to each other, i'm just now realizing how absolutely horrible this looks. I understand if you don't want to take advice from someone who currently looks like this, but i am doing my best to fix it. I'M a little bit perplexed about the hair parting situation, though i'm not used to cutting this much length. Oh there's the issue. It'S in the back with the back. I tend to make my layers very long, because i simply just do not see what i'm doing. I'M getting real close with this side. It'S looking nice, here's the before side, here's the after side looks nice. I don't know if i'm done with it, but i certainly want to take a break from it. On this side, i tend to not make the layers as short, the razor method is so annoying for a wig because it keeps wanting to pull off my head. I don't know how to keep this in place anymore. Oh, my wig cap is falling off that'll. Do it, my situation has been situated when i took the wig off. It was absolutely crazy how much hair this side had compared to this side. That means i'm doing a good job, trying to speed this up a little bit wrong scissors make me nervous. Oh part of me really wants to split dye this wig. The issue is, i do not know how to do that. I know you can do certain parts of wigs with sharpies, but i don't know if i could do an entire half of a wig with sharpies, but god it looks so cool black and mint green. Can you even imagine i'm getting really close? I think i mean i don't know, i think that's pretty good moment of truth. This is what i ended up with it's pretty good, considering the part is still all up i'll have to re-sew the wefts. If i actually want this to be wearable, but that's besides the point, i did a good job cutting it for what i'm dealing with you know, i'm not really cutting this wig for wearing purposes, i'm more cutting it to demonstrate how i would normally cut hair, and This is just a spare wig that i decided to up. You can see. The main issue is this, but, like this whole situation would not be an issue on a human head, so i hope that it doesn't take away from the main point here, but yeah i'll. Do a little 360 of what i ended up with so here's the front. This is the bang area when i turn around. I hope this isn't scary back here, because i can't necessarily see it, but it shouldn't look too bad. This is the least scary side, see how the back does this little triangle thing ends up in a point. She can go away for now, so this is how my hair usually falls see little hook thing i was talking about. All of this goes over and everything else just falls. This is approximately where i part it when it's up by my ear and then it goes up in a little circle, and then it goes down by my other ear. I hope this was helpful. This is just stuff that i would like to hear when i was cutting my hair for the first time anyway. I think i'm done thanks. Bye,

eldritchelf: Thank you for keeping the tradition of not cutting your hair with the proper scissors and the intense amount of razoring. It’s an essential part of the culture

ATLxstayxawakex: omfg i can't believe this was made last month - i'm having flashbacks to me in my bathroom in 2009 cutting my hair with a dull bic razor. incredible

kitsterangel: Honestly I think the reason professional hairstylists can never properly do scene mullets is bc they just can't replicate the amount of chaos that goes into cutting it yourself with kitchen scissors and a dull razor.

Ashley Moore: That’s it. I’m gonna do this.

ditnat: Anyone wanna sit on a bathroom floor covered in dried liquid eyeliner, blast mcr and nightcore, and cut our hair with craft scissors and someone’s mom’s dull razor?... jkjk..... unless???

Sabrina: Elder emo here. the choppier the better. Love that our style is coming back. :')

wendigosurvivor: As someone who also has emo hair, I can vouch that this is how we actually cut our hair

K0RE: I’m not even goth/scene but I really want to see people in the streets rocking this hairstyle lmao. I hope this style comes back!

watch out the grizzly bear: heeyy fellow scene/emo kidz!!! i’m glad the rawring 20’s are kicking in and the fact that this vid is pretty new gives me hope lolz... i did this cut in like the end of november but slightly different cause my hair is a lil shorter so I went for the hair style that emo boyz usually do. i really got into that style since then sooo i hope that we will revive it bc i experience the lack of cool scene clothes in the stores!!!

デススマイルズ: its so weird seeing this after the boom of online shopping and beauty products. wigs were trash back in the OG days!! now kids have so many options and ways to express themselves in scene/emo ways. its cheaper now too! you look like you walked out of 2006 and thats a compliment!!!! scene will never die~

Moss: I’m doing this tutorial rn, and it’s going good so far. I just finished the bangs lmao Update 1 day later: My mom got mad at me that night, and I only got one side done, along with the bangs. She’s only mad cuz I didn’t ask.

rae: watching a scene hair tutorial again takes me back to like 10 years ago when I would watch these religiously

Graceful Barbie: its been 8 years since scene was cool.... its time for it to come back. ive suffered long enough being the only scene kid.

Alyssa Helmers: I'm so glad this is still a thing! I used to do this in my bathroom from 2004-2009. I'm now in my 30s and my hair is super long but all one length. Your video gave me the courage to actually cut it in this style again. Wish me luck!

NerdBabe: I'm more punk myself, but the fact that this is from a month ago makes me SO HAPPY!! I've been wanting a genuine alt fashion revival beyond the e-kid style, which just doesn't feel the same. Emos are fucking awesome and I love y'all so much

Bea Aragon: thank you so much. i’m doing this later today and i had NO idea where to part and where to start. this is so detailed and informational. i appreciate you so much

germfall: i wanna do this so bad, i feel like i would mess up and regret it though...

deetdeet tv: the vocaloid songs abstract nonsense and love is war playing in the background really are the icing on the cake i’m in 2011 again we luv to see it

Gh0st Chili: Sees the recommendation "how to scene emo- ? God I havent seen one of these in years, let's check it out for the nostalgia." Clicks video.... posted 1 month ago!! BRING IT BACK BRING THIS BACK PLEASE

dezzy: iNSaNiTY playing in the background is just the cherry on top

jojo_entertainment: i've been noticing a revival in 2000s fashion and internet culture as of late and im glad.

Lolcat4ever: For those of you who are too scared of messing up your own hair (or have strict parents), you can also do it on a good quality wig like she did in the video! It’s great cuz u only need to style it once and then plop it on your head and your good to go for the day!

caroline: this makes me feel so happy that this style is coming back

kumoori: a scene tutorial in modern day is so surreal. i knew it would come back eventually haha, it’s truly an iconic era

Eager2eat: Literally thank you so much for this! I would say I’ve been emo since I was about 10, I’m 21 now and throughout my years of being in the closet about my identity i can say I’ve never been able to successfully execute the hair style mostly because of my catholic family (you prolly know where that’s going lol) so I’ve always hid my outward emo style. But now I’m doing this! Thank you for being that video that inspired this in me

MysteriousBagofTea🍵: I'm 27 and I still do this hair style. I rarely see anyone keeping their bangs anymore so finding a tutorial on this style was hard. Thinking to get a wig to give my hair a break. Thank you for the tutorial!

VirgosDream: The fact this says a month ago is beyond me!!!! I remember having this hairstyle in 5th-6th grade with my pink and purple clip ins and my many beaded bracelets I made and my “rawr” shirts and bows! Ahhhhh bring me back nostalgia! Glad to see this style is a style still ! :)

olivia: them: i’m just eyeballing it *their hair covering their eyes*

angel: I pray to god that emo / scene fashion will come back

phoenix Lucinda: When I style wigs I put them on a foam head so when you were complaining about it moving my first thought was tell you should stab a pin into the top of your head lmao

Electra Blazer: Thanks for the tutorial my hair came out looking epic! Also when I want to style it simple for casual days it's cute Best gift ever for my Birthday coming up this 29th.

Rachel McCartney: it's been years since I had my hair, I'm doing ym hair right along with you and it's going great, you do so well explaining and giving examples. thank you so much!

asami: geez these vocaloid songs used to be my favorites. so nostalgic

ebnyanon: it feels just like 2009 all over again, i love it!

Fairy Duckling: I've been growing out a buzz cut for about 5 months, so my hair is still pretty short, and I'm trying to grow it out nicely because I'm going to be the MOH at my sister's wedding next year, but after that I want this haircut! I love scene culture and I was too young to enjoy it when it was around before, but the rawring 20s are inspiring me! Plus, if I horribly mess it up, hate it, or just decide I don't want it anymore, I can always shave it again XD

Kira: Thanks so much for making this video! idk exactly what it is but the particular way you explain what you're doing helped me so much, I've been trimming/cutting my own hair, especially my bangs for a few years ish now, and usually turns out pretty good objectively but until after seeing this video I could never really get everything completely layered and thinned out exactly to my own satisfaction. so this really helped, thanks!!!

Blare Blink: Great advice! I'm planning to get my hair cut next month and I'm trying to make sure I know as much as I can.

🐝_dija_🐝: You're such an inspiration for a ✨️y o u n g e r✨️ person who wants to be scene

red___ cemetery: I’ve never been so happy to see “one month ago” under a video

heneedsloveoooh: HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR PART STAY??? Whenever I try to do ANYTHING that involves my part being not higher up my hair just.. "time to FALL INTO EYES"

Milkgore: omg ; _ ; you're so cute!

lia ت: this is by far the best emo/scene haie tutorial

Lexi: I don't think i could thank you enough for this tutorial :')) i've been wanting scene bangs for a few years now and i finally got the courage to do it !!! <3

rachel: i did this last night like at 10:00 pm and it helped me sm, thank u <3 :)

Bea: I found this channel last week and I love it so much! I'm a newbie emo/scene (kinda still searching but more of an emo) and I have a trouble explaining to anyone what I'm trying to do. I'm not really allowed to cut my hair myself because reasons (I'm a minor) and idk how to explain this to an elderly hairdresser but I'll figure something out. Meanwhile, thanks!

Niraishere: Me who’s got one inch long hair: *interesting* Also the music is giving me intense flashbacks lmao

Cross: Found your thrifting videos and was hoping you would have a hair tutorial... and you do! Tried this once back in 8th grade, wasn't great. Gonna start over again now that my hair is extremely long! This tutorial is awesome <3 Thank you!!!

Noki: Wow an emo tutorial in 2020? An emo tutorial that has Vocaloid music in the background?? One of the songs is Love is War??? I love it.

Natasha Rostova: This is absolutely amazing! You hairs, your content, you are! Thank you so much what you show how i can cut my hair (no matter what this were a wig. lol)

Zehra G: im gonna need a makeup tutorial for this look

ghope: I thought this was from like ten years ago and I was like wow this camera quality is pretty sweet your hair looks so cute!!

Martina Laray: I have been transported back to 2008, thank you for that nostalgia.

oliver: OMG i listened to this song when i was younger- im shocked :0 "insanity" okay anyways, at the time emo was famous and used a lot, i was still very young but i always wanted to use the accessories and hair of this style, thanks for the tutorial!! <33

Adaline Smith: If you ever want to style a wig again and want to change the part, part the wing how you want on your head, clip it down, and pour boiling water over the new part. The hot water will set the synthetic fibers in place so that it stays

Bun.: screaming. i remember cutting my hair like this in the bathroom back in 2009. NEVER again. that shit left my hair so fucking scraggly and unhealthy looking. however; it definitely is apart of the scene experience lmaooo

The Name's CC: can’t believe i used to follow these tutorials ten years ago def giving myself scene bangs again!!!!

PugLover: I’m 13 and wanna do this but I have the Dora bangs Sooo. Probably when I’m 16 and older My hair grows quite slow :(

Sonya McGrath: I never thought of using wigs but this is a great idea!

Michelle Gifford: This takes me back to my high school days . I used to use an actual razor to cut my hair but eyebrow razors seem like a way better option

dumbyworm: You powering through that wig's middle part without altering any of the wefts is the most incredible thing. Former emo, present cosplayer here, sending you big respect and admiration!!!!!!!!

Shirley: Thankyou for taking me back to 2007-2009 era. My ninth grade year.

Rawr_jesshy: Ah thank you! I wanted emo hair so badly for awhile,so this was helpful for my first time

Molly: I want to get into scene but don’t want to cut my actual hair like this, is it okay if I just use wigs and style them then wear them all the time? (I’m aware of how itchy it can be lolz)

mr fitty: I wanna do this but my sides of my hair are shaved and i don’t want it to look stupid

Cecelia Romero: im so glad i found your video. all the other tutorials are for ridiculously long hair but this length is exactly what i have and what i want

iCriedWolves: The authenticity of this tutorial is makes me happy <3 an elder emo

Helena: I remember being a scenekid in 2014 and watching hundreds of these tutorials my gosh i miss that time..

IAm Noodle: This was amazing! And if you do wanna wear it, just wear it with a beanie and it should be all good.

flvghtlessbird: this is the best emo hair tutorial i've been able to find and imma use this one for my own hair:) i actually had emo hair but after going to the hairdresser for the third time they somehow managed to fuck up my hair. i had straight bangs and not the layers xd even tho it was the same person who managed to cut my hair perfectly two times before haha.

Eve eee: Ok listen I’m an actual cosmetologist, but I LIVE for this vibe

natalie: i love this, i always wanted scene hair as a little kid. my 12 year old emo self is happy, ty

Raven Onyx: I have this exact hair cut. This is the first time I've had it like this since 2016 and I'm 21. Never told old in my opinion and I'm honestly really happy to have it back again. Only difference is that my side piece on my left is shorter ^•^ Also side note- I always use razors like that and thinning scissors. They give the best feather effect in my opinion

Vividesia: The Vocaloid music adds a special touch to this video, idk how to explain it but I love it

sock full of soup: I’m almost certain she time traveled here from 2009

aquaria358: I would've wanted to be you back when I was 13 Literally your style, face, hair was what I strived to have.
