Countess Vaughn Warns Black Woman About Wearing Lace Front Wigs She Says They Runined Her Hairline

Growing up, we watched Countess Vaughn become an icon on black sitcoms. She initially got her start in the entertainment industry by performing on Star Search. Her acting career took flight when she starred as Alexandria DeWitt on 227. Later on Vaughn appeared on Thea and Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. She eventually acted in Brandy's hit show, Moesha and debuted on her own show as the lead actress, The Parkers.  As her rise to fame grew, Countess's appearance began to change with the actress donning various wigs. Unfortunately, in 2004 she was introduced to lace-front wigs by her hairdresser. Countess immediately fell in love with them and began to wear them 24/7. Recently she appeared on The Doctors and shared the terrifying aftermath of consistently wearing lace front wigs. Read below and consider yourself warned.

Countess's History With Lace-Front Wigs

"In 2004, my hairstylist introduced to lace-front wigs and I fell in love with them, immediately. You have a full-hair line; I was wearing them 24/7. Five years later the drama came in. The red flag was the oozing from my ears, forehead, the whole nape around my head. The puss had a horrible smell and it was painful. I let it go by for six months. What I did not realize, I had a bad reaction to the glue I used to apply the wig. My hair started to fall out."

Hey guys this sugar routine, I want to go ahead and shout out diva wine diva wine. Numerous people haven't sent me this video. So if you guys haven't heard countess von, our favorite best friend she played in the Parkers, she played on mo East show two to seven um she's, just a phenomenal actress. She definitely brings it back to the 90s, but she's been going through a lot of really tragic things and she decided to come out and speak to it on doctors, she's talking about how her hairline was basically destroyed from wearing lace, front. Wigs, I'm gon na go ahead and show you guys the video clip now it's about six minutes and that will come back with the rest of my commentary. Even from a tender young age, countess von has been a fixture on countless TV favorites, such as two to seven and Moishe. The latter launched the successful spin-off, the Parkers, making countess one of the first african-american females to land, her very own sitcom, but the beauty and the dream would soon begin to unravel it's crazy out one day, everything's fine and the next thing, the simplest things can confess Up your life working in the industry for so long, I've always had different looks so I'm used to wearing wigs in about 2004, my hair stylist and she just me two front lace. Wigs and I fell in love with them immediately. You have a full hair line. I was wearing it 24/7. Five years later, the drama came in the red flag. Was the oozing from my ears from my forehead the whole Nate around my head, the pus it had a horrible smell. It was painful. I let this go by for six months. What I didn't realize was I had a bad reaction to the glue that I used to apply the wig, so I understand falling out. I didn't want to make the connection with that. I mean I was just like come on a wig, a wig can make you sick no, no way. I went to a dermatologist, but you didn't. Let me know long-term. There would be any problems now I have discoloration people assume you know, give it away, go anywhere. Where you would apply the wig and put tape on I'm lighter in those areas, and I used makeup to cover it up the skin under my eyes, peeled because of the glue the skin came off my ears with the eyeliner, I'm literally drawing in my hairline, because Of their situation, I was embarrassed, it was just you have to be at home and be bald. I had to go through this in order to teach my like my little one, that you got to love yourself for what else. Well, I just wanted to look natural. Please welcome actress countess Vons, this show as women. We all share this hair thing. You know new, they try to tell us. We are not our hair, but you know we are hair. Yes, it makes a big difference. What style you wear mm-hmm, so pretty much with the lace front, wigs you're, applying the glue around around the edges around the nape blue, our tape and what we don't realize is when we're doing this, when you're lifting it up you're taking off a layer of skin Each time so and that's what have you so you so you you had to take it up to keep reapplying like yeah, our I mean if you, if you sweat or you know it's just it's time, yeah redoing, to redo it. It'S gon na lift people in general ever say: I've never obviously had a wig. I may need one but um, but do you ever say like? Is this healthy or is this right or are you so excited because it's so excited, that's what you go on. You know switch to being an actress, I didn't think about the health risk and I don't think that most of us do think about the health risks when it comes to trying to look our best exactly. It was cute and cute now. Well, it's an important cuz. You by coming on this show bravely countess. You really are sending this message out to so many people, we're joined by hair restoration, specialist, dr. Amir Yazdi and first off. How does this happen? Obviously, this is the glue affecting the pores and then over time. Creating this huge infection, well yeah, it's the repeated trauma to the scalp like how she mentioned every time, you're, putting the wig on and taking the wig off you're, putting traction you're, putting a pulling tension onto the scalp onto the hair follicles, and it gets to a Point where you start damaging the scalp so much. You damage the hair follicle so much that the follicles start to fight Bros. They just start to die out and they're fibrosis, meaning scar, scarring right and they just kind of died out and they slowly start stopped growing. And you know I had a chance to examine countess and that's exactly what I've seen I've seen the thinning I've seen the receding of the hairline and those are classic classic science. You know a lot of african-american women have wigs or extension or weaves whatever braids, particularly one famous woman. I don't mention her name. I think she has traction alopecia, because the braids have been so tight for so long that it's taken her actually taking her hair line. Yeah and - and you know what even non african-american women we were talking about or the show I used extension of those tapes, whew and dr. the same thing - traction alopecia, I lost a ton of hair, you have to be careful, so be careful is obviously the message, But for someone like Countess, who has already undergone this quote-unquote trauma, where does she go from here? Unfortunately, there's not a lot of good treatments for the discoloration, but we can do a hair restoration surgery where we take hair from the back of the head and we re graft it to the front and as a bonus when that hair grows out, it will actually Cover up the discolored areas and give her a very natural looking hair line, I would love to do that. So I just like to say that you know it's amazing. You'Ve been sharing your story. This is something that it's really good for people to know about, because it is something I see commonly and with that being said, I'd like to offer for you a hair restoration surgery to help you get your hairline back and kind of get things back in place. Watch the video - and I just want to say that really a Meyer countess vine for being open and honest and speaking on things that a lot of times women are too embarrassed to speak about, and one thing is our hair. You know we all go through. So much with our hair, you know I've told you guys my hair journey high. I hated my hair growing up. No one ever taught me how to care for it. I thought you know having a perm was just a natural part of life and then once I went natural it's like you know it was just. It was so much freedom. It'S like. I love my hair now in its natural state. I can never go back to wearing a perm now, as you guys know, I did used to wear lace front wigs but, as you guys know, I always added advocated not wearing the tape and not wearing the glues. If I did have to glue my lace front, wigs on, I feel like a photo shooter for something I was doing. I would only use spirit gum because spirit gum only lasted about you know, 3 to 4 hours. You can't even sleep with it in with spirit gum. It comes off after a while, but a lot of these glues are very, very dangerous and I remember the first time I ever tried the lace front tape because we like to just tape it on, and I work for a whole day and literally my forehead was Just white almost like when you put a bandaid on your finger and when you take it off hiring skins off shriveled and white, and that was my first time and my last time using tape. It pulled my baby hairs out. It did all that, and that was just one time used. I did it one time and I'm like not this ain't for me, so I don't understand how for six months she could keep doing that to herself for six months, all the while smelling puffs stuff oozing because, like I said after one time trying to with the Tape and it ripped a bunch of my hairs out and my forehead was all wrinkled and everything else. That was enough for me to say now, I'm cool, I can't mess with no strong glue, no tape. None of that a lot of folks wear wigs. It'S protective styles to give themselves a break and everything else, but you have a lot of folks out here who don't know anything about their hair. They proleptic they have on a lace front if they have on the so. In that sit, the hair is done. They'Re good, but what they don't realize is that they still have to take care of their god-given hair underneath you can't just get assaulted and call it a, and this is a problem that's going on, because now these wigs are more affordable. Now you can get a synthetic lace front at the hair store for like 30 bucks. So now people are just gluing this to their head: they're, not maintaining their hair and now you're having a lot of women out here with traction alopecia, you know their hairline is gone. You have chicks, whose hair lines start that care I'm gon na. It'S really really sad. You know, I don't think there should be a platform for natural women to knock women who wear weaves, but to not women who wear perms. You know I hate the whole hair debate. That'S why I don't really do hair videos. That'S why I don't get involved with the whole hair community. I can't stand the hair debate cuz up to me. I feel like there's bigger fish to fry. I don't think naturals should feel like they're exempt to that, because you have a lot of natural girls who have hairline issues as well. You have natural girls who pull their hair back too tight with the with the headbands and they twist their hair too tight when they do their twists when they do their dreadlocks. So you know traction: alopecia can affect everybody, not just girls who wear wigs, not just girls who prom their hair. Also natural women can also be affected by traction. Alopecia. I make sure to rub. You know peppermint oil and rosemary oil. You know on my hairline every night, you know every night, I'm rubbing oils in my hair and give myself a scalp massage, and you have folks who feel like they want to did take how your hair should be you're, not getting emails all the time. You should lock your hair. I don't like when you wear your hair down like this. I don't liking the Afro. You should pull your hair back. You should do this. You should do that to me as women. You should do to your hair with true feel. They need to do to your hair, but with that being said, you also have to maintain and keep your hair healthy. I don't think anybody has the right to knock anyone for any style if they so choose, but at the end of the day, it should be by healthy hair care and being proud to wear your own hair. Okay, if you like to wear wigs, if you like to wear, we that's fine, but also be confident and comfortable enough to show you real hair. There'S nothing wrong with our hair, there's nothing wrong with our hair texture and we have to start loving what God gave us. You know it's cool to take a break, it's cool! To switch! Your look! It'S cool to you to know we use as an accessory like of us, I could say, but in the day make sure that you're taking care of your real hair, underneath all that weave underneath these lace fronts, because it's not worth dying from it's not worth getting An infection you know you had the story back in 2012 about the woman in UK who died from hair bonding glue, the hair bonding glue, you know, went into her scalp and he killed her. You know a lot of these Blues. Have you know poisons in them that we don't know they're untested? Some people have to wear wigs because they have alopecia and they're, sick and they're. You know they're balding and everything else. They don't feel confident without a wig on. So this is not so you know. Shame anybody who has alopecia or shame anybody, you know who has a thinning hairline. Sometimes you have to wear a wig until you can get things back in order. But my thing is: prevention is the best key and we need to start supporting girls who are comfortable being themselves who are comfortable wearing their natural hair. Let'S stop putting on these women who have lace fronts and wigs and weaves I'm pedestal and acting like that type of hair is the hair to obtain. I think we should start putting women who are just confident to just wear their real hair, regardless if it's permed, if it's natural, if it's your real hair, let's start putting these women on a pedestal, let's start giving them props. So that way, young girls don't have to turn to wearing European hair. They don't have to turn to wearing Malaysian hair. They can just be comfortable wearing here. That'S this texture. You know I'm saying that looks just like this. You know so the whole situation is just said. You know that she's not the first celebrity. You know he had an eye on me Campbell when her pictures leaked out and you seen her hairline her little beady B's and everything else. You know it's sad people say: well, that's a small price to pay to be famous, and you know it's a small price to pay to do. You know to look a certain way. It'S a small price, but is it worth it at the end of the day you know in the day is it working when you can't even look in the mirror, because your hairline starts back here to me, like I've always said, keep it simple. Being simple is the best way. I don't do a lot to my hair and I'm fine with that. You know I don't do a lot of extravagant styles, because I don't like my hair to be pulled. I don't really wear braids cuz. I don't want my hair. Getting thin, I don't want my hair falling out, so the most I ever do to my hair. I put my hair into pigtails and I twist it up at night and then I also you know twist my bangs and then when I get ready, wear my hair Justin twist it and that's it. You know I just like that simple. I don't like a lot of complication in my life. I got enough on my plate, I don't want to worry about wigs and glue and you know don't want to worry about a bunch of mess. You know. I'M saying I just feel like people should keep it simple, make sure to maintain your hair. You wash it every day, every other day, deep conditioning stay on top in your hair, because in the day once you mess up your scalp once your scalp and your hair line starts hardening and in forming scar tissues. There'S no word for that. There'S no way for that hair to grow back now, she's being blessed with a hair. Restoration, hopefully will work for her, but here we're serration doesn't work for everybody and it's also very expensive I'll say once again: prevention is the best key. Don'T just slap on away! Don'T just slap on some tracks and call it a day take care of your hair. So you don't end up in the same position is conscious vine, so anyways go ahead. Leave a comment. Let me know your thoughts on this entire situation. How do you feel about conscious fun coming out? How do you feel about contests vine story? Have you ever had an allergic reaction to hair glue? Have you lost your hairline from wearing lace front, wigs or you know, saw winds, are really really tight braids. So let me know your facts. Alright, this is

Kat Blaque: This is a great mind opening video. I had the same reaction to taping a wig down. I said that's just not for me.

Dwayne Edwards: I think what is not being said here is the fact that this woman is an actress. She did not have the privilege of choosing to be African natural. A guy I work with is an actor. He wears his hair bald because his agent felt he would be more marketable. All I'm saying is, don't be so judgmental. The entertainment industry is very competitive. Also I like how the white girl backed a sister when a brother was about to really hate on us. She shut him up quick. Thanx girl!

Rachel Christine: One thing that bothers me is women using hair glue to apply false lashes. Now that's scary!

Beatriz Bautista: I'm Hispanic but I always liked hair like yours. I've always wondered why not very many black women wear their hair natural. It's beautiful.. embrace it!

AlisaG YouTube: These wigs were designed to be worn by people who have hair loss. They were not meant for people who have a whole head of hair

EH CBunny: I was walking in Walmart when a black hairdresser came up to be and said she was an hairdresser and she could "help me" with my hair.  She wanted to put a weave in my hair despite of the fact I have shoulder length natural hair. I wonder when did we stop loving our hair as black women, and why should I worship another type of hair?

HairKittyKitty [CysterWigs]: (In full disclosure: I own a wig store for ladies with PCOS hair loss.) I love everything you said. I never use adhesive on my wigs because of stuff like this. I like your spirit gum suggestion. The only adhesive I sell is water based and won't last more than a day. Lots of women of all colors wear wigs for a bunch of reasons. Most of my customers buy wigs for medical reasons and I always try to talk them out of using heavy duty adhesives. I don't even sell extensions because I have seen some terrible traction alopecia from the glue/braids. The last thing you mentioned about prevention being the key is dead on. My ladies come to me when their hair is already falling out. I know many of them would kill to be in a position where they had the kind of hair a lot of ladies with color try so hard to cover up. I think people should do whatever makes them feel pretty, but just be careful. Not for political reasons, but just to make sure you don't lose what you've got like poor Countess Vaughn did.  BTW: Your hair is beautiful. :)

Ashiel Israel: She is not alone.. I'm sure many people have seen Naomi Campbell's edges too. It's sad. Black women have been conditioned to hate their natural hair because it's not straight like everybody else's. Wearing a wig every now and then is not bad, but when you try to wear one as if it's your own hair, that's when the problems start. That goes for micros, box braids, ponytails, etc... Too much of anything is not good for you. I have a couple of lace fronts that I might wear for special occasions only. Other than that, I'm all natural with maybe some eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. My man has no problems with it at all. I just look at some of these YouTube wig videos and it's sad that a lot of these women have no edges at such a young age.

brownsugarcandie2007: Damn, why did it take her 6 months, to realize, the wig was literally scalping her alive, and making her sick? The puss enough, would have been enough for me to say "hold the fuck up, something ain't right!" Just saying "glue" and "scalp" alone, makes me shudder, and say "HELL NO!" in a heartbeat. Hell, I'm too afraid of dying my hair, so it's been the same dark brown color, since I was a kid, lol. XD I personally stop perming, back in 2005. Hair wasn't growing, fallin' out, etc. So, I said fuck it, I can't take it anymore. I've been natural since, and my hair, after checking it yesterday, is about to pass my boobs, lol. It was a long, and painful ass journey, but I've never felt more free-er in my life! :-)

SKELETOR-E.X.: I think your hair is beautiful just as it is. And I agree! It is ok to switch things up a bit from time to time, but unfortunately, lots of our women feel the need to have the perm look 24/7 as if to say their own texture isn't good enough. I personally think we have the most beautiful, and most versatile hair on this planet. It's too bad most of us have been convinced otherwise. Great video!

MIDNIGHT STAR 2028: Although her story is tragic, I commend her for coming out and revealing her story. Kudos to her. Thanks Ti for putting this on. 3/19/14.

Multi Sassy: There's really no excuse for this, she could have just worn glue-less wigs, or pinned them down. At the first sight of any reaction to the skin she should have stopped, but she admittedly continued gluing them down which makes no sense to me, because it made it worse. !!

whoo else: She says all of this & she STILL has weave in her head as she speaks smh.

Nati: Great video! First time to your channel and I really enjoyed this video. I totally agree with everything you said girl. We really should promote more acceptance of our OWN hair, like you said, be it straight or natural, being confident and secure in what grows out of your own head is PRICELESS.

aaliyah houston: I used to love weaves, braids and have my hair chemically relaxed then I woke up and realized it was contributing to the lost of my edges,so I decided then to go back to natural, you'll be amazed how leaving your hair alone contribute to losts of hair growth.

Sefa Kolubah: It surprises me that these "doctors" didn't know what the fuck was happening with her scalp.... Not even the slightest idea. Interesting.

LisaFrank39: Weaves/wigs are not bad. Its all about proper maintenance of your natural hair. Bottom line: take care of your hair.

mscinnamonwoman: This is why people should rock their natural own hair. Take pride in yourself.

MooMilkMilk: I don't understand this huge discussion about hair. I'm 19, I've been natural my whole life and only apply heat to my hair like once a year. It's currently mid back length, but lately I've been getting really bored with my hair always being in the same state, always the same color. So I decided to buy a wig. _Nothing_ wrong with that. I've decided to start using heat to be able to do _more_ hairstyles. _Nothing_ wrong with that. I've decided to cut it, _nothing_ wrong with that. I've decided to color my hair because I'm bored with it always being the same color. again, _nothing_ wrong with that. *It's just hair people*. It grows back. If I fuck up real bad I'll just slap a wig on and wait till it grows back. I can say this because I've _been_ natural my whole life, but some people in the comments make it seem like it's some sacred holy thing to be natural. Who the hell cares. It's YOUR hair. DO with it whatever you want. Being natural is just that, letting your hair grow the way it grows, it's not better or worse than heat training it, putting a wig over it or even if you want to, relax it. I'm getting so sick of these natural hair nazi's who've been natural for like 3 years and think they know shit about everything regarding natural hair. When you've been natural _your whole life_ you can acknowledge that natural hair can sometimes be incredibly boring. There's nothing wrong with that. Switch it up and come back to it whenever you want it again.

Jazmyne Drakeford: This is an unfair thing to say. The problem isn't the weaves and wigs, its the mindset. There's nothing wrong with weaves and extensions and all that as long as 1. your hair is protected and being properly cared for underneath, and 2. you aren't relying solely on wigs/weaves because you lack the love and respect for your natural hair.  Check out my rant on natural hair on my channel Blvck Nostalgia: What Exactly IS Natural Hair? ♛

Kia Roane: I loved everything you said! At the end of the day. we as black women need to start embracing our natural hair. Simply put. If more of us did, we wouldn't find ourselves in these situations. I experienced that same freedom when I went natural, and I could never go back. I'm 11 yrs in at this point. I oil my hairline every other night with jamaican black castor oil.

KurlyKirsten: but shes still wearing the wigs so i am very confused..

Tianna Ess: You actually get emails from people actually telling YOU what to do with YOUR hair? That's mind blowing.

TheBrownIsland: She's being very misleading. She was ALLERGIC to the GLUE NOT the weave. They are trying to use her as a token for this topic. I believe she has been wearing weaves too much and too tight. I'm happy that the CAUCASIAN WOMAN on the panel mentioned this goes for NON-BLACK WOMEN like her who suffered from the Glues and tapes used with Fake Hair and SHE TOO as a CAUCASIAN woman suffered from Traction Alopecia.

bobby Gordon: I'm proud of her for coming out and telling the world trying to save somebody else

Phalyn Williams: Thank you Countess for your bravery. Thank you for sharing your story and your talent with us over the years.

Sophia Campbell: Thank you so much for this video. I appreciate valuable news people can use! Kudos to you for being outspoken on this subject. Your natural hair is beautiful and you didn't put anyone down for choosing different styles. Thank you again.

lifecanbebeautiful: Thanks for sharing. This was extremely helpful to me to share with my daughter that has the exact same skin discoloration on her hairline area. She recently asked me what I thought it was and I told her to go see a dermatologist. This video offer an possible answer to her issue.

OfficialMissALo: Shoutout to the Caucasian woman speaking out too

Franchial Barnes: Thank you so much for the story. I found out that I was allergic to weaves. I wear wigs every now and then but they don't contain glue or any chemicals. Mines have combs in them. My hair is very healthy thank goodness. I am glad that Countess Vaughan put out that awareness to us all and thank you for doing the story.

SoulfulChaos: Wow. This is very disturbing, alarming and a very real thing that happens more commonly than we'd like to realize in our neck of the woods and in Hollywood/The Industry. :( But just like there are women with messed up hairlines, damaged hair and scalps from wigs, weaves and extensions, there are also women with full hairlines and healthy hair and scalps. Like you said, you gotta keep taking care of what's under there! Our hair is too fragile, regardless if it's kinked, curly or wavy, to keep that stuff on our heads that long! Bless her heart. We all live and learn. I believe Countess has learned and I pray that others will wake up too. :(

Berengere French: Very brave young lady and she's so sweet.  I hope she finds a remedy to regrow her hair.  She's an amazing actress.

MoonlitWit: That black guy really tried it. He thought he was being so cute. Black men are too busy SHAVING their heads to look at the bigger picture. I could get on black men and say that no other race of man does that. But I won't. If he's so educated, he would know that weaves and extensions are NOT exclusive to black women. Black women get the most backlash for it because they typically choose weaves/extensions with hair textures that do not look natural on them. Thank God for the woman sitting next to him for speaking up and showing both sides. BUT women of all races need to realize that wearing hair additions is NOT a replacement for healthy hair practices and maintenance. Other than that, who cares what people do with their heads.

Nisai Gibbs: Thank you lovelyti2013 for posting this! I have never worn wigs and I have only had one sew-in, years ago! I have had hair loss from tight braids and relaxers! All of what was said in this video just proves how important it is for black women to be careful not to go for the quick fix! I cannot wait to go natural so that I can truly be proud of the natural person that I am so...a grand thanks goes to yoU!

Lola😸: she could have prevented this, glue isn't the only thing that can hold down a wig. -_-

Trisha Ann: Dying for beauty is sooooo sad to me. Everyone has forgotten what they REALLY look like with all of these 'crutches'. I'm a new SubbieForLife & I really enjoyed your voice on this issue. It's an accessory not a REQUREMENT! ( exceptions to the rule excluded)

Melissa C.: I commend her for her courage. Glad the doctor is going to treat her. . . She really doesn't look well. I pray everything is OK with her.

Mrs Anderson: This is scary! Who would've thought that a woman would loose her life over hair glue? I don't do glue or wigs, but my motto is everything in moderation. We have to give our hair a break sometimes! I know many famous people have said that they wear wigs/weaves etc. to prevent excessive styling and heat on their real hair, and it can be a great protective style if done in MODERATION. I wish her the best and commend her bravery.

VIDEO GAMES PLAYER MAN: she is very brave and very awesome for this and because of her coming out with her story she saved a lot of women's hair and confidence peace

Cali Suave: Girl this is a real informational video. Growing up i was ashamed of my natural hair. Now i love my natural hair because i actually am INFORMED about it.

Lisa Collins: Unfortunately, my hair broke off from twisting it too tight. I was constantly trying to recreate styles I saw in various YouTube videos, and my hair/scalp paid the price. I don't think it will ever grow back. I learned my lesson the hard way, and encourage women (and men) to care for your hair. Learn what it likes and create a weekly/daily routine. What works for one Naturalista may or may not work for you. I cannot stress the importance of knowing your hair, what it needs to be healthy, and caring for it based on those needs.

Lashayla Jackson: i used to wear wigs from the beauty supply store; when my hairline started to thin out, I quickly realized it was due to the use of wig combs.  It took a year of getting braids and not having them braided up to my hairline to get some thickness back.  So, I definitely hear what you're saying.

Gina Lienn: Thank you for bringing out that even naturals have hair problems! I'm relaxed and can't stand it when people with natural hair try to persuade me to go natural with all the horror stories about relaxers.

r.c. Longfox: This is so sad I just started crying for her, it just broke my heart. I feel so bad for her

My Name is Not Girl: God bless her! Yes, the most important message is that you have to love yourself before anyone else and this must be taught and embedded into our daughters while they are still young.

avon callin: my heart goes out to this young lady/ wish her the best

Tony Turner: I feel like the doctor who said "I won't mention her name" was talking about Brandy. He had to be....

Sava: Wow, I LOVE Countess for this even more! It is time that African women learn to validate their own unique beauty instead of just abiding by standards set by the Euro-peons. But this is something you have to do on YOUR own timetable, don't let people tell you how to live your life. Loving yourself is the greatest gift you can ever give to yourself. So to all the black queens, please learn to love yourselves.

Belsize Park: Lovely TI, thanks for doing this video. You are always balanced and articulate. This hairstyle looks good on you. I always notice that your complexion and beauty are stunning when I watch your videos. Today, I'm letting you know!

RaeAnna Speights: so its the glue, not the hair..these days i dont see people using glue for lace wigs..but dont blame wigs if it was the glue that caused this

deeks1970: Love Countess Vaughn's honesty!❤️

Xerxia Shadh: I have been wearing my normal hair for basically my whole life. Last year I cut it down to about 2-3 inches. Most of the people I know wasn't pleased, but I basically told them mind their own business, you take care of yours how you want and I'll take care of mine. One of my friends, wears wigs constantly . I saw her very briefly one time without her wig. But a few days ago, she basically asked me not to cut my hair again and that people whose hair grows very quickly have a tendency to cut it often, and I just looked at her. - I didn't say a word. Because in Feb I went with her and 2 other friends to the Korean store to buy a wig. When I got to the store, it was packed with black women, and the Korean guy was just there looking at all of us. and I'm watching him. I mean this guy is really staring, after a while I started to wonder what he was looking at, and when I looked around, I mean really look - every one in the store had either wigs or weave on their head. Me and this guy were the only 2 people that were wearing our own hair. Even the workers wore wigs. I was stunned - to the point where I started to count how many women was in the store. My friend then proceeded to take off her wig, and her whole hairline was gone, receding to the back of her head. I was just disgusted. I say that to say this -- some of us are too dependent on those things. I've seen black women with lace fronts so low that it almost touches their eyebrows, no lie, I 've seen hair (wigs and weaves that look ridiculous on us but we wear it anyway. We don't care how we look. There's nothing wrong with wearing something occasionally, but when you get to the point that you are dependent on them - something is very wrong.

ChangeStarts WithMe: Look young lady...you are so talented...you made me crack up laughing and I hope you conquer this and come back to the limelight! Much love and blessings to you!

treneano: Thanks for the video.  I think it's very brave of her to tell her story.  We all get caught up into what we think is beautiful without thinking about the risks to our health.  My mother used glue with a lacefront wig and the glue burned her skin leaving dark scars around her hair line as well as having hair loss.  It's not worth it.  We really need to encourage each other instead of tearing each other down. Sharing our experiences can help someone.

Mҽkaҽɭɩa Rɷaɖ tɷ ىųccҽىى: Girl I absolutely love you girl keep it up, we need more positive real information women like yourself. Much luv boo

sophia brown: Talk about sista, your hair is beautiful. You are so right we was not taught as little girls to love our natural hair. My Grandaughter is 7 and love her kinky hair

Tmarie2u: I've been natural off and on (creamy crack is addictive :) for 12 years. You know what is the most upsetting thing about this video? Not Countess's story. I'm glad she told it and is being rewarded by help and support. No it is the judgemental words coming from to my disbelief mainly the ones who are natural!!! After the the looks and stares and comments you received when you went natural you would think you would have learned compassion along the way. How could she keep wearing the wigs when her scalp became inflamed? Do you actually think that 6 minutes captured everything that was going on in her life at the time??? Are you so Wise and Insightful that in 6 minutes you have it all figured out?? CLEARLY there is Far more to the story. Wouldn't it be better to thank her for her warning and let her go on her way hopefully to healing? NOT inflicting more wounds that will need healing!! And how could someone do this or be so unaware? Is your past so clean that you can stand in judgement? I don't know how many times I have been told "your hair looks good but some peoples looks bad natural-like hers" And you know what they where right it looked horrible. I could have looked at it as if they where hurting the natural hair movement. They had to know there hair was a hot mess. I just laughed it off. Everyone has bad hair days. There learning, my hair looked like that at the start when you know better you do better. They probably had to run to the store pick up the kids. That is not how it always looks. Just like relaxed hair good days bad days. And life went on. What has happened? Why are we turning on each other instead of being supportive as we where at the beginning when you had to order hair products online? And the feeling of superiority. Have you truly embraced your natural hair? Reeaallyy so you don't slick down your edges?? OHH You where not prepared for that one." What does that have to do with this?" If your so "natural" and embracing your roots and what god has given you then what is the point of slick'in done your edges so they lay like a white girls??? It doesn't make sense-Right? You can embrace all that god has given you EXCEPT at the hairline!!! "It looks neater finished with the edges slicked!" Why?? Who told you that? Why do you think that? Did you ever lay down the gel and toothbrush and say this makes no sense. Here the rest of my hair is natural free but for me to "feel" it's finished I have to use a cup of gel and a toothbrush for the edges. Isn't it like playing peek-a-boo you cover your eyes but the rest of you is still there. I'm slicking my edges something straight hair Naturally does while clearly the rest of my hair IS NOT. What is the point? The only person I'm fooling is myself. If right now you Hate me with a passion then I have made my point. We can all fall into doing things we are sure we Have to and since that is the case we should cut everyone be they natural, relaxed, some slack.

Tanya Greene: Thank you for this video. You are educating our women on how dangerous these lace fronts are. I never wore them but my daughter loves the weave, lace fronts etc. Only difference is she doesnt wear them all day only when she goes out. She use to wear the false lashes and all her lashes fell out. She learned from that lesson, and she was not using the lashes all the time. But she use to just rip them off instead of doing with oil or gently removing. Anywho thanks for lacefronts 101 what not to do. lol

lajoyce dotson: Man this is sad, I'm a black woman who went natural 3 years ago and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, my hair is down my back now and super curly, I didn't even know I had curly hair until I took care of it.. more and more sistas are going natural but I just wish the rest would get on board and appreciate there own hair besides, us black women look sooooo much better with our own hair..

shahara turner: I am currently going through the same hair journey you went through. My mother didn't know how to do my hair so I started getting relaxers at 4. I ended up having my hair burnt out twice so 3 years ago I shaved my head and decided to go 100% natural. It was quite scary at first I had no idea what to do. Now I am really beginning to like it. Sure I have days where I miss my bone straight hair but I really love my curls now and I save so much time not having to blow dry or flat iron it!

EveryDayPray: This video is informative. I've seen what gluing/taping lace fronts does to a woman's hairline. But, I've never heard of hair adhesives making you sick. I'm glad Countess Vaughn shares her story. Hopefully this is a wake up call for many.

AMARU ONLINE: As a man who looooovvveesss a "sista" with long natural hair, I have to say that that has been one of the reasons I started to watch your videos. I think you are a lovely young woman WITH stunningly beautiful hair. And the fact that you're comfortable with it, comes off of the screen, I have to say. I wish more Black women would wear their OWN hair instead of the wigs and weaves. Not that there's anything wrong with that, per say. But as a former stylist and barber, I know for a fact that most Black women do NOT have nor are they interested in developing the PATIENCE it takes to nurture Black hair, which is the type of hair that needs the most care... OH, and did I mention that I love how you enunciate. Very articulate! ;)

selfimage75: You are really on your stuff girl. I agree with you 100. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for keeping it real!

MzYumYum69: Wow I had no idea this happened to her. God bless her for coming forward and sharing her story and educating women. Kudos to you for this informative video. So much pressure on women to meet society's changing standards of beauty. I had something similar with a weave cuz the stylist wasn't sanitary. Lost some hair but its making a comeback. I have given up harsh relaxer and I tell my braider "not too tight". They will snatch you bald!

Where's Jackie: I actually did a project at school and asked all boys freshmen through seniors and 85% of the boys said they love girls with natural hair, and that they look better with no weave, so just for those girls that wear it to impress people. you don't need to impress anyone and just love who you are

Loretta Stuart: I really appreciate this video because we do need to start loving our own hair despite how loose or tight our natural curls are. I wear lace front wigs also, but never used glue. I used bobby pins to secure them to my braids hair underneath a wig cap. I have seen women with receding hairlines with scaly fine bumps and was determined  not to use glue or tap to secure my wigs down. For the winter months, I wear wigs to give my hair a break, but I wash my hair with shampoo and deep condition with keratin protein treatment once a month and two weeks after cowash my hair with argan oil. I am natural for two years and my hair is in much better shape now. Hopefully, Countess is doing much better with the restoration and maybe her story will scare straight those who are shamed of their own hair.  Again, thank you so much for this video

Andrea Gaye Scott Westfall: Ti! I'm so glad you go all natural because you are the MOST beautiful, being natural! And there's nothing wrong with your hair, it's beautiful. I wish I could help you all understand that your hair is actually quite special on this planet, in many different ways and is amazing how many really cool different hair styles for both women and men you can make with your hair, WITHOUT WEAVES/WIGS AND GLUE ! Please forgive my poor wording but black women are so special and so beautiful, and to those who don't understand this, I wish you could see!!!

ItsQueen Babii: I PERSONALLY KNEW HER AND HER GRANDMOTHER MS. BOBBIE (R.I.P.) SUCH A SWEET WOMAN. i strongly disagree with saying lace wigs messed up her hair line. sometime its not the products we use....but the people we pay money to (stylists) that dont apply them properly. like going and getting a perm....and ending up with hair lose...burn spots and open sores from it. its not the product. its the stylist who didnt know what they were doing. before applying lace wigs there are skin protectant creams you must apply....and your hairline must be cleaned with alcohol. you dont just put glue on your hairline and not think it will pull out your edges -_- the glue is not suppose to be added on your edges...or even touch your hair on your hairline. i mean.....as a child i learned that from putting glue on my arm hairs...pulled the allll off where i put the glue. so apply it directly to my hair line thiking its ok. nooooooo. and she stated that layers of her skin were being taken off...when she removed the wigs. wich means they for sure werent applied properly and also were being removed the wrong way. smh. before using anything and trusting hair stylists.... we need to educate ourselves about the products and how they should be applied first hand.

MissMadeline: Love this video. I thought you were very honest and genuine . you were supportive and it was great of to do this video it should help a lot of black women and women around the world...

peachpetals: Weaves are MUCH worst- your real hair can't even breathe. I know many people who have grown long people hair using wigs as a protective style. Just don't use glue

Luxe Beauty Supply (Exclusively Online): Very brave young lady...love her. She mentioned a very key point, she left it on all the time and that is a no no. Skip the glue and tape Beauties, they're other methods. Great video!

Ureka Gordon: My family said I was crazy when I said "I think allergic to hair glue". Every time I use it my scalp gets tender and I lose a ton of hair. Plus I swear the lace from my lacefronts are pulling out the hairs on my hairline. Thank you for sharing this info.

EducateMe: HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR! There is nothing wrong with going natural and there is nothing wrong with half wigs, whole wigs, weaves, braids, twists, or track pieces as long as you take care of your own natural underneath. This is one thing no woman can afford to be lazy about. Love your look, love your hair, LOVE YOU!!!!

Bred601: Love, Love your vids girl! Keep up the good work!

Salon Rx: Thank you for sharing! I've been thinking this for years, but Never have said it because....everyone seems to love their braids and lace fronts. Thank you for putting this piece together. PEACE!!!

Anita Taylor: Thank you for your message of loving self first and foremost. We as black people have always been told negative things about our natural assets, but quite often the same ones that's putting us down will give an arm and leg to have what we have.   We are the most blessed, our hair is the prettiest in any state, natural, straighten doesn't matter.  When it's healthy it's awesome. They wished they had this.  What ever the style is, just take care of it.

SooMuchMore: I am natural and I just took down a whole head of braids after 4 days because it was just too damn tight! I love Countess and I hope and all the people here get healthy hair at any length/texture. ❤️

AshSlays: Definitely loved how she opened up about it! I hope she makes a come back soon!

windycitygirl00: I am so happy that she will be able to get treatment for her hairline.I pray it will work for her.We have to really be careful with our hair.

Ikea Washington: I see what she is saying. I recently started wearing a lace front (not with glue or tape)  but the hair around my hairline looks like it's been cut down and I see a lot of split ends...

tam_tam: Also I hope the best for this girl and others who have had this problem. You're right Ti you still have to take care of your hair!!

tam_tam: Also I hope the best for this girl and others who have had this problem. You're right Ti you still have to take care of your hair!!

DianaShines!: Really enjoyed this video! I recently just ordered my first lace wig but I am a stylist and I don't believe in using glue at all… Im excited to receive my unit when it arrives, but we must all understand that the wigs and weaves are temporary…Not a forever style!

agreer705: I get braids every year and my edges haven't been pulled out so I thank God for the person who does it but my prayers do go out to countess Vaughn and I hope her surgery goes well

Mama Hare: Great video. I was just talking to my daughter a few days ago wondering what became of Countess. Good to see her speaking out about this. I see lots of young girls on YT talking about the Asian and Indian hair they're purchasing but had no clue they were gluing in those lace fronts. I have teen daughters and thankfully they both are happy with their natural hair and always have been. They do relaxers sometimes in the summer so it's easier to manage after chlorine and salt water. But even that we do in the gentlest way possible.

J. Jermane: "At the end of the day, it should be about healthy hair care and being proud to wear your own hair." -@lovelyti2013

Shee M.: Wow!! She was very brave to come out. I would of been afraid. And thank you for explaining that in your video. You made me realize a lot!

Yaya216: Girl, you are too funny! Thanks for keeping it REAL!

I-Beauty: So glad she shared her story..I went natural about a year ago nd I love it..I never really wore weaves though, ive had one sew in in my entires life and only braids maybe 3 times. Black women have to learn to appreciate their hair more.

Shuggaqube: I've never worn a wig and the first time I ever had my hair weaved I was 15.  It was just something I wanted to try and it was only once.  It was the sewn in kind.  For the love of me I never understood how anyone could use that nasty smelling, highly toxic glue on their skin.  All those toxins seep into your blood-stream over time.  I'm now 39 and looking to go back to natural, unprocessed hair and I was thinking of braiding or using a wig while transitioning, but nothing with glue or tape.  This video was very informative.

College Woman23: I just watched this video about actress Countess and her experience with loosing her hair. Long wear and not treating her hair and scalp, caused terrible hair alopecia. Wow! I just hate lace front wigs on myself and never got one. This is a wake-up call to women. We need to come to a healthier decision to be natural and stop wearing wigs, weaves, and extensions. If this bothers your health and your scalp and hair is not growing properly, that is a sign to stop. I just want to say I was shocked that lovelyt experienced such hatred over her hair. So, so crazy. I loved every hair style I seen you wear. You're natural hair is very healthy looking and beautiful.. Great video

Lilie Waters: Wow thanks for that video I really learned something today, I have had micros and kinky twist before, and they do take a good portion of your hair after you take them out. After removing my kinky twist I had to cut most of my hair off, for leaving it in for three months resulted in me wearing a wig now. Today I have decided after seeing that video to rock my natural hair no wig. Thanks for the video : )

AAEA: There are so many healthy ways to achieve a certain hair aesthetic. I'm natural as well and not against being versatile with ones hair, but not to its detriment. Ooh no, never that lol. Never neglect your own hair. Keep up that healthy hair regimen or start one. Get the right products and tools. As long as you do that and you're applying/installing your wigs, weaves, and extensions in the proper (and HEALTHY) way, you'll be gravy.

kimberly route: Love being relaxed I haven't used a blow dryer or curling irons over 3 years. I relaxed 4 times a year. Love my hair health and happy.

A. K.: Poor sweet lady. I am so glad she spoke out about this to inform other people

Savage Aristocracy: The doctor who told her about the surgery seems like a really nice man:) Sincere and understanding. Good for her I hope she loves her new natural hair!

ecugirl10: I had a reaction to hair glue once a few years back. It literally burned my scalp where I did my invisible part. .. it took a while for it to get back normal. .. it was a glue I tried once from Walmart because I was curious. ... never again. ...

Hope Franks: I'm sorry but wearing wigs and weaves and chemically processing your hair is not self hate. As a woman I should be able to wear my hair as I please. I wear sew in weaves to retain my mid back length hair and keep it from getting heat damage from straightening it. I love my natural hair but I'm grown and I can wear my hair however I please. I love myself. I love myself enough to know how I want to look and what makes me happy. White women wear clip in extensions AND weaves AND perm their hair to get curly hair like us so is that self hate too? NO it's not. It's called doing whatever the fuck makes you happy. Mind your own business

Tiffaney the Enchanted: I love her for this. She opened up when she didn't have to. Countess you are a treasure and I hope that you keep your spirits up. Muah!

Rhydonnia Martinez: so beautiful, so brave to talk about this to help others
