Costips: Putting On Wig Caps And Wigs With Long Hair

I get asked about this a lot, so I figured I should make a video about how I put on wigs!

Hey there guys my name is sage or wicked kitty and if you haven't noticed, I have a lot of hair. So being a cosplayer people, ask me all the time. Oh, my god, how do you fit all that under a wig and I've been cosplaying for 3 years and for a long time? That was a really big struggle. I used to have not as long hair, so it is bad, but lately the past year and a half I've been growing my hair out, so it is quite long now. I also have really thick hair. So apparently, it's quite a magic trick fitting this under a wig. So I'm going to show you how, because it's actually really really simple, so the only materials you're going to need is your wig cap, your hair, a hair band or actually sorry, not hair, ban hair. Clip and then your wig I've been selling my tricks for jaynewick today, so I'm just going to use this one at the moment. Ok, so what you're going to do is you're going to start out just pulling all of your hair back like you would, if you were going to do a ponytail, get it really really low um make sure you have all of your hair back versus the sign. You don't want a single hair up, so it's really not a huge deal. If you do, if you have bangs, I don't, but if you have things you're going to want to like pin them back kind of go straight back or kind of to the sides with an ugly like a little part, and it doesn't look that glamorous. But it's going to be under wig, so it's not a big deal but see up so you're going to pull all of your hair back once you have it all kind of security and what you wouldn't be a ponytail you're going to take your red cap me And my my fancy here, um put it in your teeth, which I know isn't classy or just have it on the side. But for me I always hold things my mouth so and then we're going to do is you're going to twist under or it's more kinda. Like a side twist, you do that and then just pull over like that now almost here here should be concealed. Make sure when your oh, that's cool yeah is so much air. So when you're pushing it up, make sure that none not a lot of stray hairs. Come out, if you do, if you just kind of like tuck them back in there, we go. Oh so now I have that sexy. I don't whine, so you're going to slowly kind of push it up back to your hairline um. For me, my side, my like sideburn hairs, aren't that bad but you're going to want to like push them back under your cap kind of pull forward and just slowly move up so yeah. It looks look we were done, but so, if there's a little bit of a bump right here, you're just going to kind of like flatten, because there's no ponytail, all your hairs are just going to move pretty freely. So you're gon na flat. That and then pull see how I couldn't have that hair up there, I'm just going to kind of tuck that down and then you pull your we cap forward. Oh, I thought your hair stuck in there layer is not being cooperative. Today I put in a wig like four times: okay you're, going to pull it forward, smooth out any hairs and so pull it as far forward as possible and then you're going to take your clip and just clip it in. So that's going to help your hair. Your wig cap kind of not in bad place, we, I know a lot of cosplayers, will continually like you - can pin kind of your hairline in place and then like the back of your head. But then it also helps when doing this, to pin your weight to it. So here's the part where sage is one of those super taboo cosplayers. I don't put on my wig the way your spoke to you and for me, that's because all of the times, because my hair is so long, it does pull in the back. So when I try to put it on like this way, it just doesn't work for my head shape, so for me I actually do pull it on, and so you kind of take this part, pull it up against your head and then pull forward and down, and Then you'll pull back a little bit because usually goes a little too poor for it, and now it's really awfully styled, but that's not too bad, because it's usually just the bangs and voila no awkward a head shape going on and I have a wig on this - Is going to be a little harder if you have a wig, that's like kind of meticulously styled, but as long as you're gentle, while putting it on kind of despite the method that works for you and on everybody's head shape is different. Not everybody's characteristic is everybody's. Her shape is different and everybody said shape is different, so the way that, like everybody else, puts their wigs on might not work for you, man, I am my wig - is janked up right now. Okay, now, a lot of cosplayers are going to pin one of the like pin their waves, so it'll stay in place, especially if you're wearing it for like 18 hours or something really long when you're at a convention. So what you're going to want to do is take bobby pins. I don't really pin that much um but you're going to take bobby pins and try to pin it in the places where it's like most likely, concealed so like the longer parts and down to your ears, where your Winwood more slip, you kinda want to a couple In the back and then sugar, a really short wig, but you cut one in the back like here, and so that way it just kind of like keeps a little bit more. It'S a little more stable and some when you're moving around or if you're like. If you're doing like jumping shoots or something it'll, you know you'll have more security. Now I'm going to stay in place that doesn't always work so you're always going to want to continually check up on your wig every once in a while make sure a lot of times the hair back, the hairline will go back. I I saw a cosplayer. My last convention that her outfit was beautiful, but she had like her hair like that much hair was showing it was. It was a bad moment, so just make sure that that that doesn't happen to you, especially when a ton of people or pic taking pictures of you like they were of her so yeah. I'm still a beginner cosplayer, and if the character I'm dressing up as has colored hair, normally I just dye it...but due to my work I can't. :[ This will be the first time I'll wear a wig and was baffled for a few days how I put it on since I have long hair as well. I do have a question though, the wig I'll be wearing has pig tails, is it best to add the tails (they're clip ons) once the wig is on?
Cosplay Corps: To be honest, I find that putting the wig on from the back actually helps hide the bump and not drag any of your hair down from under your wig cap.
