Doing this, you can see the way that the skates are tied up a little looser through the front, if you're looking to tie the boot a little tighter. So after I heat the boot up, this is a little trick that works, that the kids say a younger kid or, if somebody's just trying to tie the boot a little bit tighter. What I tend to do is this is an old one, but it's pretty common. A little loop right there a little loop right there, so this lace is gon na go through that loop and this lace is gon na go through that loop. So you just go through like this, and this goes through like that, and all this does is it helps you to gain sort. It helps you gain a little bit of support when you're tying to skate up. It also bridges the tying of the skate over these two laces, so it helps to reduce a little bit of lace bite. Now, if I take this, I flip it through once flip. It through twice you really want to get technically. You can flip it through a third time if you're having a hard time having the laces hold and you go like so so with this you're gon na pull it up and when you pull it down, you can actually let go of the lace it doesn't slip. It doesn't go anywhere, so you pull it up again, pull it down, it even holds tighter. So this gives you an opportunity. After tying up the skates and your fingers are a little bit tingly. You can actually put that loop. Do your loop, like so and you're, just gon na, give it one two little pulls and that will hold. If you take a look at this one versus this one, you see how much of a difference it is, and I really didn't put a lot of effort into it, but it still keeps that eyelid seem a little snug or to hold around the ankle check. This out look at the difference between them and that's just a different style of laziness. Case big big difference. That'S awesome!

s romanow: Fantastic !....playing hockey since 1975 & never knew about this...Did it last nite and skates we nice + tight the whole game. Thank you.

PapaNeedsABreak: Thank you so much for this. It's been working great in addition to lacing the lower portion outside-in instead of the standard inside-out.

Build Your Game Hockey Training: Wow! Been playing over 27 years and hadn't heard of this trick. Great share!

Sebastian Smith: Thanks mate, I really needed that video, recently my right skate has been bending in a bit, the skates I have are a little bit big for me mainly around the ankle leg area because my legs are quite skinny but hopefully this style removes some negative space.

Miguel0n: Man, thanks for the tip! I've always had the hardest time getting skates that fit right. I was always one of those who wrapped hockey tape (and more recently skate laces) around my ankles. Of course now like 99% of the hockey community is pretty much screaming DON'T DO THAT, without offering an alternative apart from saving years for custom-fit skates from a hockey shop (and in my area there are none). I can't wait to try this trick out at the rink this weekend! :)

Jason Feddema: Wow! I have never heard of this trick. For some reason, my right skate always felt loose around the ankle and made it harder to do cross overs in that direction. I was thinking that I might need new skates. This trick really helps. Thanks!

skurtov: Been playing and struggling with this for over a decade! Gonna try it out tonight. Thank you!

SpazTek Warrior: So simple and so effective. Wish I had known this decades ago:) Cheers

R. de Leeuw: Thank you so much! As a figure skater, I can confirm this also helps with figure skates!

James Neumann: This works very well if you like the skates tight at the top, and don't like waxed laces. Thank you for sharing!

Random_Person: I’ve never really been able to get my skates tight enough, so this helped a lot!

Greg P.: Thank you for this just started doing the adult learn to play here in Arizona just laced mine like this at home and made a instant world of difference.

Billy McDowell: Excellent tip. My 9yr old tried this, and I no longer have to re-tie his skates to get them tighter when he's done. Win/Win

Sir Ash: I used to use wax laces but found they cut off circulation if tied to tight and are a pain in the ass to take off. Using tricks like this with non wax laces is my preferred method. I like a little flex in my skate.

MegalodonGaming: I'm glad I found this video my left skate has always had too much movement at the ankle and this helps soo much.

William Hartman: This is an old trick used by runners called the Heel Slip used to stop your heel from moving around. I've been tying all of my sports shoes this way for at least 20 years.

Larry Harris: I prefer to overlace - that is go into the loops from the top and out the bottom. This allows the lace to get trapped as they are tightened. The downside is that they are much harder to untie and loosen!

CX A340: Mind literally blown! I asked my dad if he ever heard of this, and totally shocked he said yes this is how he used to tie my skates when I was young. I never knew and have been tying them wrong for 30 years no wonder they never seemed as tight as when I was a kid. Think of all the wasted hockey tape I’ve used.

SteeleProductions1: Thanks so much for posting, just saved my 12 year old son a ton of anxiety in the locker room!

Marc Weiss: Here's a trick that I learned about 25 years ago. I like the skate tight around my instep on up to the ankles, but loose on my toes. My feet are very narrow on the ankle, but very wide in the toe area. I use and old lace and tie the first 3 eyelets with it very loose. Then I use another pair of laces from that point up and tie them as tight as possible. I buy 84" laces for the second part.

Green Parker Cards: This helped me so much thank you hockey tutorial

Keith Mitchell: I am 57 and skating since I was 5. Keeping my skates tight has given me Morton’s Neuroma in my left foot, so good luck to all the rest of you.

Jay Dee: Been doing this for awhile. Nice tip

Tyler Dixon: I watched this and now I use this trick on my 7 years Olds skates works awesome thanks

6wayZtoSunday: I just tried these on my roller skates and they work, thanks!

Kpeacock Tv: Thank you so much this helped a lot

Josh Towle: I'll be dammed hahaha. I'm a long time skater and I've never seen this trick... You learn something new everyday. Thanks dude

Julius Pusa: I prefer the skate little bit looser because you can bend ankles little more and make more tight turns. but everybody has their own way to tighten skates. Its cool little trick but everyone uses what they like what feels best for them.

Jason Poole: Been doing this for a long time...fantastic!

Art Guy: This is great. The new skates are so hard to keep tight so this a great tip. Thx

Maybe: While watching this video I tried this technique and omfg it's brilliant! My skates feel close to second skin lol

awesomepetertv: I've never heard of this, i can't wait to try it out!

CanoJR: I've been playing hockey for about 10 years now, I wish I knew of this trick when I first started.

PQ Vo: Wow thank you for this amazing tip.

Candy Stone: I will have my son try that tomorrow for hockey practice. He’s skating with the Bauer Supreme 3 S pro Junior . Amazing-skates.

9beers deep: Stringing the laces over the eyelits locks them in too. I do that with all my new skates.

Pece17: This is great trick, I use it with all my shoes.

Joey Dabbs: Does it help with sole pain? I like my skates loose untill about the 3rd eyelet and tighten from there up. If i tighten the whole boot, when heel flexes it causes pain in my soles.

small town hockey: this is sweet I'm always trying to get my laces as tight as posible but they always get loser as I skate I will be doing this

Jon Ben99: Great technique that works! Thx so much

stan harp: Great advice....I learn something new every day

Ethan Fluit: Thanks very helpful

K AN: Cool. I'm trying this on the weekend lol

Daniel Connolly: Great video hope to see you guys in Ireland. Keep up the good work.

Mr. Lynch: Wow! Just wow! Thank you so much, very helpfull. Suscribed!!!

Kody: Thanks! When I would skate my ankles would bend because they weren’t tight enough ;/

BENTBUTTERSTICK: Just started really skating thank you!

Edgar Cruz: I personally like my skates a little loose i feel like it gives me more mobility with my footwork

Danny Daugherty: Why couldn't you guys come out with this earlier lol! This would've helped SO much in high school!

Shane Flett: Lace your laces from the outside in instead of the inside out that helps him keep tight as well

Bella Boo's Lunches: Perfect! Thank you!

NA: i would suggest checking out Ian's shoelace site and his 'Secure Shoelace Knot' aka a double slip-knot. My skates used to always come untied during games from all the pressure of moving and skating, and after learning how to tie the knot, I havent had any problems since. It incorporates some of the points in this video, such as doing the double/triple wrap to lock the laces down on the tongue, and some other things. https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/secureknot.htm

shantel_r _: I’m gonna try this next time I’m at the rink cuz I always have problems with the one skate and not being able to skate probably cuz it’s so lose so I’m definitely gonna try thsi

MicBergsma: Man.. wish I knew about this back in 90s

MegaDani00: hey! how tight does it have to be around my ankles? Im pretty new to ice hockey and im not sure how tight should I pull the laces?

OffPlanet: I like my laces really loose. Like foot moves around inside my boot loose. I don’t like my ankles being restricted even a little bit.

ExTiNcT RHYS: Nice gonna try this tommorow

Atcha S.: Wow It looks perfect!!

TboneNY10: I start at the toe box with inside out or (under over). I Find it much better when pulling the laces down towards the toe.

Paul Ruffin: Would it be safe to bake my skates with this lacing style? I have the original jetspeeds and I don't want to put extra wear on my eyelets if that would be the case.

Bukes: Hey man saw those summer skates and I just got the same colour today They are awesome by the way

Jon Durak: Wow, this is super useful. Str8 boy scout shit. Thank you

Ecco Logg: Tomorrow im going to ice skate on hockey skates thanks i will try this

Ser Flynn: does this help if your skates are too wide?

MightyTax: Is that in the same copper loop that you put the lace in or the one above it

Ryan Shapiro: Does this technique effect the laces or skate

Greendotz: So I always tie my skates to the top eyelet whilst you've left the top one (two?) un-laced here. Is that advised or is it just personal preference?

DgrowHydro.: that help alot thank you.

vali grad: awesome, thanks !

Brianna Doucette: I do this with my sneakers for better ankle support

Cole Evans: Do a video on stiff flex vs Wippy flex

Peter Carr: Here's even a bigger mind blower: if you tied those first half hitches in the opposite way, you would have tied a bow that holds easily twice as well...

jellyfishattack: I hated retying loose laces until I bought a $4.00 pair of Elite waxed laces. You can even colour coordinate your laces with your uniform if your care.

OG Microwave: cool I'm going to try it on tuesday when i have tryouts

Matt: Used to have t-hook to start at the bottom an get them comfortably tight/consistent to the top eyelet. Matt

Quinn Aden Corkal: Wax coated laces work amazingly well too for tightness.

James Mauzy: Actually the best way is to wet the laces which gives your hand good grip

Anthony Toro: Thank you so much: )

sam smith: THANK YOU!!!!

Hockey For Life: Omg very nice thanks bro

J: Hitting the pond today pending weather gonna try it out for sure

Kieran Arcand: I’ve played hockey for 13 years and never saw anyone tie there skates like this lol usually just tape around the ankles or buy wax laces

techno scandi: Would you recommend doing this with goalie skates as well?

Keith R: woah woah woah.... More of like this. Please and thank you!

Martin Hajnik: But won't it ruin the skates?

Melissa Toh: Hi, my boots is Vapor x60 leaning outwards instead of inwards. On ice seems fine but after 30 min my ankle sore, after practice is done. Walking with the skates is painful... ankle and tiny toe area. Any idea why?

Ali R: Thank you!

David Perry: This is a game changer for me

B-Bud: Doesn't it become hard to bend your ankle when they are laced that tight up top though?

L D: Brilliant!

Craig Crawford: have done that for almost 40 years

Troy Snyder: Waxed laces , extra length laces , get extra pull on them.

Yessir: Thank they got way tighter so they don’t wobble no more

BigTwitchy: Is this still necessary with waxed laces? Thinking of going over to waxed...

Mike Ekberg: Runners have been doing this for ages. :D

Jaden: do a video of heel pain while ice skating

Edwin Dude: A fell runner first showed me that method.....Tis awesome.

Robert Miller: OmG the things you learn after you retire from playing thanks anyway

Gabe DeNio: Amazing channel

ZayaniBeats: great video chris
