We are making gorgeous diy hair clips in under five minutes. Welcome to the Sewing Report. I'M Jen this channel is all about making sewing and crafts, fun and approachable really excited about this one and yes, i am wearing one of my creations, we're going to be in real time making a craft in less than five minutes. Yes, you heard that right. These are great they're good for gifts. If you want to sell these craft fairs, maybe family and friends around the holiday season, perfect stocking stuffer! I made about 18 of these hair clips in about an hour and a half last night, and i'm really excited about it. This is going to be not only a demonstration and kind of showing you how to make these hair clips, but i'm also going to be doing an unbiased, unsponsored review of the company that makes these supplies jewel box supply. So, let's get into it with the magic of editing. I'M back with my sizzix and i really am enjoying using this and i'm going to show you just how freaking easy it is to cut out the material for these hair clips and then put it all together, and the company recommends you use gorilla glue. So i picked up a little tube and they specifically recommend the one with the brush on it, and i would agree with that. I also got some wax paper so, like i don't get glue everywhere. I'Ve got my die here and i've got my my material. I'M not going to cut out like the one without the window pane, so i'm just going to cut out once with the little window panes, because those are obviously my favorite. Now i have found that when you're using the chunky, glitter sheets, it's better to have the glitter side away from the little foam, because when i put the glitter towards it, i was sometimes getting like some little foam bits kind of stuck in the glitter. So, that's why i am now putting it away from the foam pads, so i've got things lined up. I'M just going to place this on one of my pads here with the sizzix put the other pad on top cutting. I think these are called cutting pads and then i'm just going to run this through the machine. This literally takes seconds like that, i'm done now. I have my two cut out shapes for the hair clip one great thing about making the hair clips is that they require so little material. It'S great. If you have a lot of these sheets and you're, maybe making other stuff like the hair bows, but you've got a little extra, you could quickly cut out a few inserts for the hair clips. And then you have hair clips and you have a lot less waist. So i think, that's really cool that this is like a very scrap, friendly project. Let me show you how to glue them into the settings, believe it or not. We are almost done. The only thing left is to just simply glue the insert into the hair clip setting - that's literally it so i've got some waxed paper down because the glue is a little bit stringy. I don't want it to like get onto my cutting mat unscrew it. So i got the brush side and yeah. It is a little bit gloppy, so you have to be careful that it doesn't like get all over the place, and i was pretty mindful when i was doing it to try not to get it onto other parts of the hair clip. I only wanted it to get just on this inside part, because this is the only section that you need to worry about getting your glue. So i think i did pretty good and this glue doesn't set up right away. So you've got like a little bit of time before you need to really worry about it, careful pop this in and then finger press, and literally that is it. My thumbs did get a little bit sore. That'S the only thing it kind of feels like i'm playing nintendo again hold it a little bit if necessary, but it seems to be secured pretty well with this glue. I did pretty well this time, but if you do happen to get a little bit of glue say on the setting, you can take a paper towel and it does wipe off. If you get it pretty quickly here, you have it a finished, hair clip and you're ready to rock. I love the chunky. Glitters i've tried some with the vegan leathers as well, but i really prefer the glitters. I think it gives it a like higher end. More elevated, look to it. The vegan leather prints super cute too, but i just really feel like i'm gravitating towards the chunky glitters. It reminds me a lot of that kendra scott jewelry, with gemstones that are like pieced up inside. I forgot what they're called, but i think that is such a beautiful look and i think mixed with the silver gold or rose gold-toned hardware. This is so giftable or sellable. I mean. Maybe you've got that new year's eve party or a holiday party, and you just want to stand out a little bit. I think these hair clips would be so gorgeous on any age. Anybody, i just think they're really beautiful, so i was able to make for real like 18 in an hour and a half. I was just so blown away by how simple it was, but how cool these look as far as how much you could sell them for i've seen a lot of different price ranges, there's a lot of options for it. Now one critique i do have about the product itself, i ordered quite a few different hair clip settings and i'm going to show you a close-up. Some of the ones i got did have some minor defects like bubbling on the plating like the metal plating, and then i also got a few pieces that had some like weird scuffs on them, including this one. The inventory is not perfect again at the price point. I think these were 450 or 475 for a three pack and then the smaller guys were. I think i want to say 375 for three, so these are pretty inexpensive to buy at their like wholesale pricing, because i'm making these just on a personal level. It really didn't bother me to get a few that weren't absolutely perfect. That may bother you, though, so i don't know it's up to you, but i did want to let you know that that is something i've experienced with purchasing some of these items. Let me tell you a little bit about this company. I forgot how i came about it. I think maybe facebook or instagram it's called jewel box supply or as customers know it as jbs and jbs seems to be catering, a lot to people who sell what they make handmade crafters. People who sell on etsy craft fairs, local bazaars and maybe two family friends or in facebook groups, so that's kind of the target market. I'Ve kind of noticed that i have been uh ordering stuff from this company for several months now. I'Ve spent a significant amount of money with them as well, so i'm going to explain kind of what they sell. What kind of products you can make crafts creations, the big thing they seem to sell is stuff to make bows. There seems to be this whole community. Popping up of people who make and sell hair bows for adults and children. These are pretty elaborate, hair accessories, they're, typically made of several different components. Customers seem to be making them either by cutting them out with something like a sizzix or an electronic cutting machine. I'M not going to name the brands, but you all know what i'm talking about. So you can buy dies from jbs. You can also get dies from other places as well. They sell a lot of different materials glitter, it's not like quite fabric. It'S like i'll show. You some examples here, layers of glitter with like a kind of a felt backing on it for stability and a lot of these materials are being made into bows and other accessories. Jbs seems to focus more on making small things. Things like the hair clips, like the hair bows, a lot of things like key chains and other like small things, which is great because i think a lot of those small items are what seems to sell pretty well at these craft shows. So you can buy your materials, your supplies and they do seem to offer like more wholesale pricing. They kind of are really catering to people who have a small handmade business, which is really cool, and i think, there's definitely a market for that. So i decided to go with all of the hair clip stuff. I don't really gravitate towards the bows, because i'm an adult woman - and i i'm not like a huge bow style person, especially not that type of bow and i'll show you some examples from the website. Here but i thought these hair clips were really something that i could get excited about and they announced these a few months ago and i i didn't really get in on it the first time so they sell some like these hair clip settings and they come in. Four different finishes: gold rose gold, black and silver, and then they also sell a few different styles. So what i really like is that they're a little bit different than a lot of the typical hair clips i've seen they are the alligator style, but i really loved these two styles called the raindrop and the windowpane, and i'm gon na show you some right now. They'Re very large hair clips and they have a little bit of a keyhole cutout, which i think is super cool, and i haven't really seen that a whole lot and i love that the material that you can put in the settings is a kind of an inset. So it's not like i've seen they also sell other, like those other hair clips that can have something slide over. I really like that. These hair clips you glue in your material, so you can get faux leather. They have velvets. They'Ve got a jelly material which i did get a few sheets of because they were on sale, don't know what i'm going to do with those. This material is supposed to be sewable. I haven't really tried it out for that purpose. Yet i feel like it's going to be really hard to sew the the glitter sheets down just from feeling them and they are very thick. I personally don't think i would be sewing those, but i think you could certainly sew the faux leather and i want to use maybe the jelly to do like a vinyl pocket on a project. Something like that. So it's sort of like this clear vinyl and then it has a print over it. The prices they're actually very reasonable. So i got a i so here's what i bought, i bought quite a few different sheets of glitters. I got some faux vinyl prints and i got a couple of the jelly sheets. I also ordered many different hair clip settings. I wanted to try out quite a few of them and then i got these two dies. Just your standard like rectangular clips. One is like a mini one, and one is a longer one, and then i also got the other die where you could make three different styles of the larger hair clips and there's the window pane the teardrop, and then this other one. I forgot what the name is: it's sort of like a smaller version of the raindrop, but there's no like little keyhole cutout, quick pro tip. If you find stuff getting stuck in your little foam pad here, just take a lint roller run it over it it'll clean it right up. Also, there's a facebook group that a lot of customers seem to be a part of called gems of jewel box supply and that's where customers are sharing their tips and trying to help other people who are also purchasing jbs products. I think that support network is a really interesting aspect of buying from this company. One thing i would like to criticize, though, is that there's not a lot of direct customer support from the company itself. Now they do do facebook lives and product demonstrations within the the group, but as far as using the products, i've noticed, especially if you're trying to cut out your materials on an electronic cutting machine. They don't really have like a standard guide for like hey. If you're using faux, vinyl here's the settings, we would recommend and i would like to encourage jbs if you guys happen to be watching this. I would love for your company to actually put together some sort of official resource on all of the settings. You recommend, because i found it kind of confusing. I have an electronic cutting machine. Besides the dies, you can get the files as an svg file, so you can cut it on an electronic cutting machine. They sell those. Those are obviously much cheaper than the dies. The dies can be pretty expensive. I think this was 12 and i think this was like, i want to say, like maybe 22 dollars and the bow dies if you're trying to make bows those were significantly more expensive than that. I went with some of the cheaper options, but they have a lot of different prices, but when i was in the facebook group and i've been part of it for a few months now, people would say hey what settings are you using on your? You know silhouette to cut chunky, glitter and you would get 10 different answers and from different people who are trying different things. And it did seem like a lot of people struggled to cut some of the thicker or more like complicated material with their electronic cutting machine. Which is why i decided to go with the dyes and use the sizzix. Rather than try to wrestle with my electronic cutting machine and trying to like wait, you know get all the settings right and a lot of people reported wasting their material because they were trying to cut say you know a glitter sheet, it didn't work out and then They ended up losing the material so jbs. I would love for you guys to do some more extensive testing and come up with a more of a reliable guide for this. I think that would be great for people who are using their machines to cut these materials. So, let's talk about the materials they do have so many different prints. I think they're like they've, licensed them, something like that and they have they're very seasonal, so they might put out a halloween collection a few months before halloween same with, like christmas or new year's eve, a lot of these are very limited, so availability of the prints Is always changing? They go really fast, so they will they'll announce like hey we're gon na put out this halloween collection and then everybody seems to be scrambling to purchase it, and then it's like gone so another thing i've noticed is that, like again, the stock is not consistently available. All the time, if you're going on the website - and you see stuff you want, i would not wait to purchase it because i've had some instances where i put some stuff in my cart. I was like okay, i'm gon na think about it, and then i came back the next day and the stuff was sold out. I'Ve also seen - and i've experienced this myself, where i ordered something certain prints of like faux leather or something, and then i got an email later on, saying: hey. We actually don't have this, even though it was in stock when i ordered it when it came time to fulfill my order. I don't know if maybe they're letting people order more than they actually have. But i've had a couple items go out of stock. They did refund my money, but it was kind of a bummer, because i was looking forward to getting that specific print. Some other customers were reporting the same thing and that can be a little bit of a negative because say: you're a crafter and you have a small business and you see all these prints and you're like hey. I want to buy these five prints and use it to make. You know these products if you order those five prints, but you only get three of them or something, then that kind of messes, with your plans to create your items that you're going to sell. So i did see one customer, you know, give some constructive criticism about how that can be kind of bad for her business because she's like well now i've got these two sheets, but because i didn't get the three others, i can't make the items i planned so That can kind of mess with your ability to to make certain items. So i think that's a legitimate concern and i did want to just call that out, because if you are using these products to run a business, then you you need you, you need it to be a reliable supplier as well. So i can understand that. Overall, though, i'm a pretty happy camper, i think these are so cute. I can't wait to wear some of these. I think i'm gon na do some as christmas gifts. Maybe i can put these in some of my etsy packages. You know it's like a little bonus. I don't know i'm still trying to decide, but let me know down below in the comments: have you ordered from jewel box supply? What'S been your experience and if there are any similar sites or sources to getting these types of supplies? Let me know, because i'm always interested - i just think these are so cute to be able to make they're so easy and they're pretty budget friendly. Even if you include the cost of say the die, if you're making enough quantity of them, it definitely like lowers the cost of buying the die. But i thought using the sizzix was such a breeze and just after seeing everyone else complain about trying to cut on their cutting machine. I was like no thanks and i just decided to go straight to the sizzix and i'm glad i did because the material was so easy to cut using the sizzix. I had zero issues with that and a lot of people using the cutting machines did so. I didn't really waste any material. I tried out quite a few different ones, but if you are gon na do the hair clips go for the chunky glitter, it looks so cool and they have so many different varieties of glitter on the site. I'M curious to see what else they're going to sell. They do have like some wholesale headbands fabric, wrapped headbands, with the knot on top. You can buy those at a wholesale price, but i'm certainly curious. I might try more products. I'Ve spent probably about, i want to say, maybe 150 on all of the supplies from jewelbox supply. I don't really have any major complaints about this company. Oh another thing it did take a while for my order to get here, especially if you're ordering anything where it says pre-order on it just know it might take like a month or you know six weeks to get to you. I wasn't really on any sort of time frame, but if you are like really needing something for a specific window of time, you may want to reach out and see what the processing time is, because it really seems to depend on certain items and whether they're in Stock or not, but definitely a check, but overall i i would say i am a fan of this company. I think it's really neat that they're offering people who want to make and sell things some really cool supplies. As far as the quality goes. I again i have been pretty happy. There are some pretty minor complaints i have, but nothing super huge. I think their materials are really nice quality and a lot of the customers in the facebook group seem super happy, but i'll leave links to everything below check them out again. This is the company doesn't even know i'm doing this video. I don't know if they're gon na, like it or not, who knows if you enjoyed this and found it helpful. I'D really appreciate it. If you could hit that, like button subscribe to the sewing report for more sewing and crafts videos and hit that notification bell, i'm jen with the sewing report see you guys again in the next video and remember whatever you're doing make it fun.

Sewing Report: In this episode, I demonstrate how to make the hair clips using the Sizzix Big Shot and review my customer experience with Jewel Box Supply. *Not a sponsored video - I purchased materials myself* https://jewelboxsupply.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/jewelboxsupply

Terry Jenner: Another good video and something else I don't wear but yes good little gifts for my nieces. Thanks Jen

Oonagh72: I think the blanks look useful. You could just glue beads and glitter into the blanks. They also aren’t a super complicated shape so it looks like the could just be hand cut. The ones you made are gorgeous.

SewNaturalDane: OHHH Jen this was SUCH A GREAT VIDEO!!! I LOVE IT! I've never heard of this company and I've been tinkering around with some other items to include for my other business for additional product add-ons for my children's collection of items. I'll head over to the site and social media and take a poke around. Sounds like I need to make a decision soon because I did see some nice prints on the website - LOL! Thanks for such a great review.

JJ FR: you have gorgeous hair! great video! i would like to buy these!

Andrea R.: First can I say that your video is so refreshing because it's not sponsored by a specific electric die cutter that is currently oversaturating the vlogosphere (no hate, just well.. you know). I love my Big Shot. The barettes don't appeal to me personally, but I looked at their key charms I think they'd be fun to make and sell. Now I need to scour the internets looking for other indie steel rule die lines. I love steel rule dies, even though I love my Cameo, nothing beats those Bigz dies that can power through almost anything. Thanks for sharing!

Kathy A Fuller: Great video . Thanks for the review .

Mara Lee: wow, I just went to see their website and everything seems to be sold out. Good for them, bad for me...I wanted to get some of the larger hair clips to have a fun project to make with the kids.

Lydia Harris: They are nice I have 8 grand daughters
