Totally Hair Barbie (30Th Anniversary) Review

Where is the length we need length? It'S totally hair. We need to totally have some hair first pumpkin spice latte of the season. Let the basic commence. Oh, my god, you guys, i am in such a good mood. It is the beginning of september, which is officially the beginning of pumpkin spice latte season, also known as like pre-halloween season, but um yeah. It'S like we're at the end of summer, it's incredibly hot. It'S labor day weekend as i'm filming this and it's still early in the day. It'S not super hot just yet, but it's going to get really hot um, so i got an iced pumpkin spice latte can't do the hot ones just yet um, but yeah, i'm just i'm in a really really good mood because i got my new camera. So i am actually filming on my replacement camera. If you saw my hollywood hair skipper video, you know that i broke my camera. I finally was able to figure things out with amazon. I was able to return the original one and get a refund so like that was really nice. The return took a little while, but it's done i was able to get a replacement ordered, and here we are so today i actually have some barbies that i want to look at um, i'm going to split them up into separate videos, but just kind of give You an idea - oh i'm, dropping things just to give you an idea of what we're going to be looking at today, i did find the pink girl of the barbie extra fancy. I also found the pink girl from the regular barbie extra, but this is barbie extra number 14, which i was super excited about and if you want to see when i found her, i'm going to put a link to the video up there, where i did some Doll hunting and i ran across her in target. I also have one of the new totally hair barbies, and i also have the what did they call this one, the leopard rainbow hair barbie that i also got on that same um doll, hunting, video, so you can actually see where i got both of these in. In that video, if you want to check that out now, like i said i am going to be doing each of these separately, i am filming all four of them. I'M still only doing probably like two videos per week, but the next couple weekends are going to be really busy for me. So i'm pre-filming these just in case, if i don't have time to film other videos during those weekends. So, who do i want to start with today? You know i'm kind of feeling totally hair barbie, let's go ahead and start off with the totally hair barbie. So this doll came out recently and this barbie is using the totally hair name and it is paying homage to the best selling barbie of all time, which is totally hair barbie from 1992. I believe. Okay - let's try this again, so i recorded the first part of this video and i was recording it in 4k and i, like it's a new new camera, so i didn't change the settings properly. My camera, basically overheated so like i was able to film for like five minutes and then my camera just turned off so um, okay, so i'm just gon na start over because i don't know where it cut me off and stuff like that. But anyway, today i'm going to be taking a look at the new, totally hair barbie for the year 2022. um. This is coming out, i'm assuming in celebration of mattel's best-selling barbie ever, which is the totally hair barbie from 1992. I believe so um yeah, so they are reusing, the totally hair, barbie um name for this doll uh. This is the 30th anniversary this year, so that's probably why they decided to bring this out now. There are four other dolls in the collection i may get. Some of the other ones. I think that they're really cute. I really like this one um, just because i love the colors in her hair, so um, but i don't know i will see - depends on how this one goes. Now i don't have the original totally hair. Barbie to compare this one to, but i do have the reproduction that came out for the 25th anniversary five years ago, so um i will be doing a little bit of a comparison with this doll um later on in the video. So that way we can kind of see how they stack up against each other. Also, i did do a full review and unboxing of this doll on my channel um. It'S not a very good video. I think i just filmed it on my cell phone at the time, but if, if i remember i will put that up in the i cards, so you can go check that out as well. So, okay, let's go ahead and talk about the new totally hair, barbie um. I am kind of excited because i'm looking at some of these things and it looks like they're incorporating some things from other hair - play dolls from the 90s, and i will point those out once i get them out of the box and talk about the accessories and Stuff, like that um but yeah, so here is the box. It is just a standard, barbie blister pack, which most hair play dolls come in. Nowadays here is the back of the box. They give you some hair style ideas, so this is definitely a hair play doll through and through, like they are wanting you to play with her hair and style. Her hair. She comes with a comb, some other accessories. Oh, i guess that there is some color change aspects. Oh the stickers are color change these these little. Whatever these are. The stars. Uh look like their color change with um temperature, so we can maybe try that out, um and then yeah. She comes with some other little hair accessories, so there's not a lot to it. Let me just go ahead and get her out of the box real, quick and we'll see what this doll is all about all right, so i've got her out of the box um. Let'S look at the accessories. I always like to do this first, because otherwise i forget she comes with some cute little sunglasses hold on. Let me see if i can get them to where i'm wearing them there we go, i'm wearing the sunglasses now barbie. I stole them from you, but they're. Just like a um. You know silver pair of standard sunglasses. I don't know if this is a new mold or if we've seen it before uh, it doesn't look familiar to me. She comes with some hair elastic, so i got three of them looks like pink, yellow and purple. She comes with her little fake plastic scrunchies and what i mean fake, i mean like they're, made of plastic they're, not like actual scrunchies that stretch and are made of fabric um. They are like clip-on ones. I got a pink one and a purple one. She has a little vest that we can put on over her dress and then she comes with these little stars and um. These stars have a color change feature and it's temperature based so um. When i touched it earlier, it changed it's pretty quick, so i'm just gon na show you actually let me zoom in really quick. So that way, i can kind of show you here um, but this is like a pink color, but if i touch it and warm it up with the heat from my finger, it becomes blue so see that was actually pretty quick, so yeah. These are kind of cool. I wonder what some of these other ones, what color they turn to it's it's actually, not even that cool in my room right now, uh that just becomes like a hotter, pink and let's see what color this one turns. If this is another blue one, maybe oh that comes a soft pink and then this green one. Let'S see what color this one turns into. Did that one change? I don't think that one changed okay. Well, it went from like a light green to an even lighter green. It might just be that it's too hot in here um, just because it is pretty warm like. I was saying today. I'M surprised that um they were even their cool color to begin with, and that i was able to change the color with just the heat of my finger, and these are little hair accessories. They have velcro on the back so that you're able to stick them on her hair like that, and then she also comes with a comb. So here is the actual doll: let's go ahead and get i don't have my bluetooth remote set up yet so, like everything i have to do is like manual but anyway. So here is the doll you know it's. Our standard milli face. We'Ve seen it like. 200 million times so you know it's nothing new for the face sculpt, but she is really pretty like i'm not offended by this. This is just the you know typical barbie face um. Her screening is pretty good. You know her makeup is pretty soft pastel purple eyeshadow with pink lips she's got like these streaks of blue and purple in her hair. Luckily, the hair is saran, so that's good um, it's kind of hard to tell with the colored parts. No, the colored parts are polypropylene yeah. I hate that. Why do they do that anyway? So this is polypropylene, the colored part, the blue and purple part is, and then the blonde part is saran. So this is like not feeling nice over. Here i mean, i guess at least not all of her hair is polypropylene and majority of it is saran, but i just don't want him to use polypropylene at all. It'S gross um anyway. She has these cute little blue, star earrings. I already checked they are removable. So they don't have that little hook in them that keep makes them like permanently in the head. She has this cute little star necklace here. She has this little kind of like a baby doll dress with these poofy sleeves, and it's got kind of like a fun print on it, with these stripes of different colors kind of paying homage to the original which i'll talk about in a little bit here. She has this little star, handbag, so they're, definitely leaning into the whole star motif here, um, but yeah. This handbag, it doesn't. Oh, is this, does this open? Okay? No, it looks like it's like glued shut, but there's just some molded details like little molded, zippers and stuff, but yeah it's just like a little star bag and then she's got these little um. I don't know if these are like turquoise or cyan light blue colored shoes uh. We i have seen these before in other colors um. So it's a it's a similar mold. I just really. She has pointed toes so, even though she doesn't have she's not made to move, she doesn't have ankle articulation um, but she has pointed toes. Yes, i love that i don't like when they do the flat feet. That'S the wrong way. I don't like when they do. The flat feet, because then they can't wear heels um. So anyway, she has the basic five points of articulation. She can move at the head at the shoulder and then oh her feet are rubber. Banded together hold on, and then she has movement at the hips. She does not have bend and snap knees, she does not have a bend at the elbows or wrist or at the ankle. Let me put on her little vest, really quick, so i can see what it looks like on her okay, i mean it's cute. I don't know if i prefer it with the vest or without the vest, but i mean it's a cute little detail and then i kind of want to put her hair up in like a ponytail. I want to see if these scrunchies will hold it. Let me use pink since she has blue and purple in her hair, already that's actually kind of cute, and that was pretty easy to do so. I do kind of like that. I don't think it's going to hold the hair in the ponytail for very long like i don't it's not super secure, but i mean it's secure enough to like give that cute little hairstyle. So i mean, i guess, that's something oh and i just realized she has purple underneath as well yeah, i'm probably going to end up giving her a made-to-move body. I usually do that with all of the hair play dolls that i have they still come on. These super basic bodies, so i want to give her more articulation and then, with these little star things, you can just kind of stick them on her hair wherever you want to give her just a little bit of extra something something and then, if you want you Can put them in your hair, so you can match the barbie, i'm just going to leave them there and i'll forget about them later. So i want to compare these two dolls, so when it comes down to it, i think they're both very pretty. They both have a fun print on their dress, um. I really really like the style of this dress. I mean it's very like 90s, but like inspired by the 60s, like that's what i get from this dress um. This one is a lot more modern inspired by the 90s kind of so um. I don't really know how to explain it, but um, but yeah so like did they obviously didn't go for like recreating the original i mean. Obviously this is like a reproduction. So that's what this would be technically um, but yeah. The main difference is, i mean, like she has post arms. She has a posed arm and, like the other, one is straight and they have kind of the same joint in the arms so that part's, fine um. She does not have the bend and snap knees that the original one had also the original one has a twist and turn waist and the new one does not have that. I'M gon na take these hair accessories out. Really quick, oh by the way, if you put the velcro in the hair, this happens so um yeah just be careful about that. It can really make the hair ready. Oh in that case, i'm going to take these out of my hair. Oh my gosh, although my hair is a lot smoother than this, because i just got out of the shower, so i'm not too worried about it all right so taking the hair down just so, i can take a look here. You can see that um. Obviously the new one's hair is nowhere near as long i mean it's, it's near it like her. Hair goes down to her knees, but the original's hair goes down to her toes so yeah they they are. You know i guess doll hair is getting expensive. That'S why they're using the cheaper, fibers and they're like not doing the length they're, not giving us the length? Where is the length we need length? It'S totally hair. We need to totally have some hair like come on, but um i mean it is what it is like. So that's that's a big thing right there. Like i don't know. I is this a faithful reproduction i mean, like. I said it's not really a reproduction. It'S just inspired by and celebrating the the name of totally hair. So, like you know, by modern barbie standards, i do like this doll like i don't want it to come off as like, whatever i just like this doll more but, like i said by modern barbie standards, i do like this doll. I mean i bought her for a reason she is pretty. I like that most of her hair is saran. I genuinely wish they didn't use polypropylene to do the color like you. Can they can do colored saran in like these fashion, colors um, because i'm not gon na get her down right now, but the the uh rainbow hair barbie, like here's, a picture of the the rainbow hair barbie or i forgot what it's got like glitter, rainbow, hair Or whatever she has all these different colors of the rainbow in her hair, and they are all saran, so you i know that mattel can do it um, and even though this is this is just a little bit so like when you mix this with the saran. It doesn't feel too terrible, but i'm just i'm so over the polypropylene, it's just it feels gross. So that's my biggest gripe, knowing that this is the body that they put pretty much all modern barbies on um i mean it is what it is. I'M not a fan of it. I wish that it was made to move like i'd, even settle for barbie extra level of articulation, even though the barbie extra doesn't have my favorite articulation um i, but i am going to end up having to put this on a made-to-move body, so just so that Way it has some better pose ability and stuff like that. Overall, i think that she is really really cute. I do love the color scheme. This, like you, know, cool tones pink purple blue. I love it. I think that it's super pretty. I like the way her hair is styled with the half a pack down and she's got like the bangs, so that kind of like is a little bit of a throwback to the original having the bangs. You know like. I think that that's a good idea. I did also mention that there was a couple other callbacks to some other 90s hair play dolls, so the comb this comb is actually designed after the hollywood hair comb, the hollywood hair barbie. They have. She had this same kind of comb with the stars on it. Like this, and it has like the little star cutouts because it had the little magic hair mist and then you would use this as a stencil you'd, put this up to the doll's hair and then spray it and make these little stars on the hair in pink. Because the you know color change aspect so yeah. This is a callback to hollywood, hair, barbie and then these little stars with the velcro. This is kind of a um, a callback to the jewel hair mermaid barbie, because i think technically, that is like other than a rapunzel barbie. I think the jewel hair mermaid barbie is the barbie with the longest hair. If i'm not mistaken um she has the longest hair ever even longer than totally hair barbie and that one i love as well. I was able to get that one second hand. I still haven't cleaned her up. She looks like a giant hair ball right now. Eventually, i will do a video restoring the jewel hair mermaid barbie, since i got her second hand, it probably won't be like too long of a video, because there's not a lot, i'm going to do, i'm not going to customize her i'm just going to clean her Up, but if you want to see that in a video, let me know in the comments, if you want to see me like clean up the jewel hair, mermaid barbie but anyway, so that barbie did come with little stars that were on little velcro pieces. So you can put them in her hair. They were like sparkly like jewels, and these ones are definitely flat, but these ones have a color change, so that kind of goes back to the hollywood hair barbie, which has the color change so technically. In a way, this barbie is kind of like an homage to three of the most iconic hair play barbies from the 90s and um. I i love that aspect of it um, i feel like they could have probably done a little bit more um like i feel like the the barbie, is just a little lacking in certain aspects, but i'm not gon na complain about it too much because i do Like the doll, i think that it's cute i like that they brought the idea back, i'm glad they at least use some saran. I'M gon na keep talking about that because that's like my biggest gripe and honestly, like i don't hate the accessories like. I really wish that they would just do real scrunchies. I think that these scrunchies are okay, like they're, not the worst, the fact that they open and it makes it easier to put it in the hair and stuff like that, is okay, and it does give the look of a scrunchie like this looks like a scrunchie, But i just you know like rainbow high on the scale rainbow high did do a scrunchie this size for uh. Who was it halle? I think so um halle capri and i have it it's floating around here somewhere. I don't know. Oh it's right here. So you know like this is an actual fabric scrunchie that rainbow high did, and then this is the thing that that barbie is giving us um. I get it because this scrunchy i mean like it, looks like a scrunchie. It is stretchy. You know i would. I wish that barbie could do this, i mean they can. I wish they would do this um, because i do really like this and like with this, you can at least actually use it as a hair, styling thing and it still looks like a scrunchie and everything like. I really really wish that barbie would do this um. I understand that they feel that doing higher quality accessories and stuff raises the price. But you know what i feel like we'd enjoy that you know. So i don't know there's a lot to be said. Other people have reviewed this doll and they've they've already gone over. All of that so, like i don't really want to like complain too much about it. Like i said i do like the doll. I think that she's pretty i like the colors and um, i'm probably gon na just give her more articulation by doing a head swap the oh. Also, the doll by the way was like twenty dollars, i believe hold on. Let me look up the price. Oh okay, she's they're, only eight they're only 19. They are um 18.99 at target, which is where i got them so she's a little less expensive, like the the unicorn and mermaid barbie. Just for comparison um. This one is 23., so they're a little less expensive than previous hair play dolls from a couple years ago, but i mean for a doll, that's less than twenty dollars. Like i said, i'm not complaining. I think that it's a cute doll. They have. You know four different color options: four different uh and each one has a different hairstyle out of the box and hair colors and stuff. Like that, i have a feeling. It'S probably gon na be the same thing like whatever color of the natural hair, like whether it's brunette or blonde or whatever, is most likely going to be saran and the fashion colors in the doll's hair is probably going to be that polypropylene. So i don't think that the other dolls from this line are gon na be safe from that polypropylene anyway, i'm gon na stop complaining about that. Right now hold on just got ta drink a little bit of pumpkin spice latte and just you know chill out, but anyway, that's gon na, be it for right now i got ta get going because i still have three more dolls that i want to get through. Today - and this is labor day weekend, so it is going to be a busy weekend, so i got ta get going but anyway, thank you so much for watching.
