If you want to start your own hair business, I want to first congratulate you because you're already past step one when it comes to starting your own hair business. It could be scary, confusing and frustrating when you have no idea where to start. But I got you because by the end of this video you'll be able to start right now: hey y'all, I'm peach and I'm an inventor in the natural hair accessory community. I invented a headscarf that does not slip off your head at night and I'm documenting my journey right here on YouTube, so stay tuned to the end of this video so that you can get all the tips and tricks on how to start your own hair business. I started working on my business two years ago when I was at a job that I absolutely hated. I was tired of having to report to people that were sometimes younger than me and also reports. People who were, let's just face it dumb. Some people are in manager, position that know darn. Well, they don't need to be a manager managing anybody up in these buildings, so I figured I had to come up with a way that I could start my own business. I have always been in love with my hair. Ever since the beginning of time. Back in the day before the natural hair community was a thing I was always trying to get my hair as straight as tia and tamera from sister-sister little did. I know that ish was just natural for that these kini curls was never gon na, be that straight unless I got a relaxer, but nonetheless I learned - and I finally figured out how to get my hair straight and of course it was with bumpers and a whole Bunch of heat and damage that came along with it long story short after sitting on a park bench one day and having a come-to-jesus moment with my life, I realized we don't have a natural hair scarf that does not slip off in the middle of the night. Cuz peach, I know you got darn tired of waking up in the middle of the night and your scarf is behind the bed on the pillow at the bottom of the bed or in the hallway cuz. I'Ve been dragged by the cat in the middle of the night, how many of y'all can relate to any of those things, every single one of you as long as you wearin, a scarf or some kind of bottom. That night, I know you do so. I started thinking: how can I make this product? What can I do to make this product and well this product even sell? I mean I know I want it, but what other people want it? There are other videos out there that tell you how you can start your own hair business, and most of them are how you could start selling weave or any kind of hair. This video is not gon na be about weave or hair. It'S gon na be about anything other than that I mean you could certainly use these tips and tricks if you do want to start a wheat or any kind of hair business like that, but I'm speaking from my personal advice, which was inventing something that was going To being usable by anybody in the world which is gon na be my headscarf, so the first thing I did was figure out how I could make this usable by everybody on the earth. What way was I going to design this product that it would be beneficial for sleeping at night, not falling off your head, because we all know there's so many products out there that advertise that they don't fall off your head, and we know God well that issues Falling off your head in less than five minutes, if you're tossing and turning roughly so I got to work, I started making sketches. I started sewing my I do have a teeny bit of a sewing background, but that's nothing more than taking a class at high school. I know per section when it comes to sewing, so I created my design, I design, tweaked and sewed for about a year and a half until I finally had a prototype that actually work. I tested it on myself and I also tested it on friends and family to make sure that it worked for not only myself but for a majority of people step two was: how am I going to do this with absolutely no money? I mean your girl got money, but your girl ain't got that much money. I don't have enough money to be going out to big companies. I mean like yeah Kings, holding up a paper tournament being like can't you make this design and like let's make it snappy, because I'm trying to launch this business. No, I literally had money that was coming from my week to week. Paycheck I was living paycheck to paycheck, like most people, and I didn't have a lot of extra cash after bills were paid every single week. So what I had to do was literally crunch down on any kind of extra spending. I was legit only spending money on the things I absolutely needed, like RAM like gas like electric, like food, anything else that I did not need. I was not spending any money on it so going to Wendy's going to chick-fil-a buying that cute shoes, that's out the window as of right now, because I was starting my business, it's any little bit of cash. I had left over went into my savings to go towards my business because I need it things like string. I need to things like fabrics and just the materials I needed to make my scarf, let alone packaging things that I needed this well, it costs money to run a business and the money got to come from somewhere. So I had to take it out and just sacrifice all the things that I was used to getting after a while. It got easy to turn down those chick-fil-a Nuggets. I will say it was 100 %, easy, cuz and y'all know. Chick-Fil-A is banging what you got to do what you got to do third thing: I did a lot of people think that you need to have money or you need to have some kind of a sponsor or a loan. Somebody, that's given you money to support your business, and I'm here to tell you know you don't if you have a nine-to-five job, if you have any kind of job you're on the right track, you just got a budget, your money and save as best you can And the way that I thought about it was even though I read fully hated my job and I hated going there every day in order to motivate myself to go to work, to get out of it everyday to go to this dumb job that I hate it. I thought it's my job as a sponsor you'll hear a lot of people talking about. Oh, I have a sponsor and their supply and their funding me from my project or people do like a Kickstarter and they raise all this money up front. So they have money to work on their business. I didn't know how to do any of that, and I wasn't even looking at as an option. I didn't have anybody who was giving me money. Nobody was fronting money. Money was not flowing in my hands; it just was not happy, so I thought up my job as a sponsor my job. I go to my job, I do something for them and they give me money in return. So that's how I looked at it instead of me. Looking at my job like oh, I got ta, do I got ta go as a dump job. I don't feel like going. I now looked at ask okay. Let me do something for this job so that I can get something back in return, which is a paycheck at the end of the week, because that paycheck, I desperately needed to keep my business going or saying how in the world was I gon na start. When I knew absolutely nothing about running a business, I didn't know anything about YouTube. I didn't know anything about Instagram or Facebook. I didn't know anything about running a business starting a business, how to start what I was supposed to do. I knew nothing at all, but you know who does know Google and YouTube. They are my best friends. I cannot tell you any question that you have. All you have to do is type it right into Google. Your exact question and a whole bunch of links are gon na pop up that I want either leading to a dead end, which is fine because it does sometimes happen. But in most cases it will lead you down a rabbit hole of a wealth of knowledge of answers to all your questions. So the one thing that I can say when you don't know where to start just start at Google just start at Google or you can even start at YouTube typing your question verbatim as you're thinking about it in your head, and I guarantee you, you will come Up with an answer sometimes like I said it may not be a good answer, but you won't come up with an answer and it's going to allow you to go and do even further more research to get the answer that you weren't. I didn't have any mentors. I didn't have any business friends I didn't have any of that, so it's not like. I could call somebody up real, quick and be like hey, I'm trying to start my business. What am I supposed to do? I didn't have those options. I was in a community of people who were just regular people living their life, so I was in this by myself. So since I was in it by myself, I had to turn to the Internet to get the things that I wanted and you best believe the Internet return. The favor, because I learned everything there is to know about my business to date from Google and YouTube by themselves. I also kept my head, or I should say I also kept my ears in audio books. If you are not listening to books and you're, not reading books, you are not doing yourself. Justice books are still a great way to get information, especially when you're trying to learn something new. Google and YouTube can only get you so far, but a lot of those links won't refer you to books. A lot of those links will refer you to even podcast, so what I did was I surrounded myself in all things: biz, this natural hair entrepreneur. Anything of that nature because number one it kept me more than motivated to keep focused on my dreams and number two. It gave me the answers to the questions that I had that I couldn't find on the internet or that I couldn't find here. It couldn't find one the answer over here. I was going to find it over there, so I use all of my knowledge and one I had all of my knowledge in one place where I was able to get the answers to my questions. Listen to podcast! Listen to audiobooks, read regular books and keep your head in there internet with all things business. It'S the best way to go, and it's a no fail technique. Some of my favorite podcasts that I listen to or how I built this by NPR, which is basically an interview of a bunch of people who have built magnificent businesses and it tells, and they talk about their journey from day one to date. I love that, because I get to hear people's stories from day one and a lot of the times. Their stories are just like ours. They had no idea what it started. They had no idea what they were doing and yet they were still able to turn their business into billion-dollar $ 1,000,000 businesses. So I definitely recommend you listening to that. Some other podcast that I listened to our marie forleo's podcast sonny lunar news. These podcasts, the sunny, show Jenna Kutcher's, podcast and just a whole wealth of other podcast. If you have no idea where you can listen, the podcast, you can listen right on your phone, go on your phone and your app store on Google Play and you download an app called stitcher. This is where you'll be able to type in any topic and it'll pop up a whole bunch of different podcasts that you can listen to find podcasts that motivate you that you're able to listen to that. You can listen to it while you're grocery shopping, while you're cleaning, while you're driving driving, is the best time to listen to a podcast because number one you're not focused on being stuck in back-to-back traffic because you're listening to some knowledge. But it's also a good way to use up time that you usually don't use driving in the car. You waste a lot of time and energy, but if you can use that time to educate yourself, what could be better? This thing was I able to find the mentor there is a website called score. This is the website where it's a knob, the business that helps entrepreneurs find mentors in their in their field that they're trying to start their business in. I haven't been able to find much luck, but it has been helpful when it comes to finding a mentor it's going to take a while, because it's hard to find somebody that you're able to click with on that level. I have been able to reach out to people to get basic information, but I've never been able to find somebody. I was able to click with so in the beginning. Yes, I was looking for a mentor like that was the only thing that I was trying to do, because I thought I needed a mentor in order to further my business and my goals, but I'm here to tell you you don't need a mentor. You don't need a physical mentor, somebody that you can actually pick up the phone, so don't waste your time trying to find somebody who's going to mentor you because number one it's hard to find that one person and two it just. You don't need one. But what I do have are digital mentors, which I found by listening to those podcasts subscribe you to certain YouTube channels, things of that nature. Reading book. Those are the only mentors that I have right now. These people that I consider my virtual mentors are people who I watch on a daily basis because they are blocking the journey in their business or their vlogging, how they have grown from zero to now, and it keeps me motivated I'm able to watch what they're doing. I'M able to use tips and tricks that they may even give, and I'm also too just like able to just watch what they're doing and then reverse engineer what they're doing. For instance, I've been working on this YouTube channel for about a year in some months now, and I haven't taken any courses or classes and how to start this YouTube channel. Everything I learned was from watching YouTube videos or lessons and watching my digital mentors. So, by watching what they do with their videos and paying attention to the little things, that's how I was able to start this YouTube channel and that's what you're going to need to do when it comes to starting a business. So long as you don't have a physical mentor, you watch, you listen and you learn pay attention and pay close attention because, most of the time, any questions that you have are all the answers you just got to pay attention and, lastly, which I have to say, Is the most important thing if you aren't scared for whatever reason to start your business? Oh you think this industry is saturated. Oh, you know five of the people who are already doing this. Oh people have told you it's not going to work number one. You were the only person who can do what you want to do. Yes, there are a billion people out there who may be doing the same exact thing, but you can make what you're doing difference when everybody else you just have to find a way to make yourself different number two. If people are coming to you and telling you that business is not going to work or this isn't going to work or that is going to work, think to yourself, are they even doing what you're trying to do so, if they're not doing what you're trying to Do how can they give you any advice on how to start your own business? If you want to start a hair business, and somebody who is a mechanic is telling you, oh, that hair business isn't gon na work? Why have you even taken their advice? Let them stay in their mechanic lane and learn about cars and fixing trucks. While you stay in your hair lane - and you do what you know is best because you're gon na be the one who was all up in those internet forums reading what everybody is saying, they don't know ish what's going on in this hair community. So don't even listen to anything that they have to say and as far as you being scared to start your business stop it you need to start right now. The time is never going to be right. So if you're sitting there saying oh I'm gon na wait until the kids go to school, oh I'm gon na wait until I graduate college. Oh I'm gon na wait till I have enough money. It'S the time. It'S never gon na be right. Just never! Gon na be right, because there's always going to be something that comes up that prolongs you even longer from starting your business. What you need to do is start right now you watch this video and I'm pretty sure you watched a whole bunch of other videos, so you're you should be more than motivated by now start your journey right now I don't care.
