Does The Hair Braider Actually Work? | Toy Braider Fab Or Fail | Cute Girls Hairstyles

Have you ever wondered if the Hair Braider toy actually worked? Rylan and I decided to put it to the test in this next episode of "Fab or Fail"! What do you think?

We've shown you so many hair braiding tutorials on our channel, but we’ve never show you a hair braiding tool. To see our playlist of hair braiding tutorials, click HERE! http://bit.ly/2yTNCXO

First and foremost, the Hair Braider is a TOY! It’s not a professional hair tool, so I was curious to find out if it actually worked. I’ve seen it on kids’ channels and Paisley has even asked for one in the past. I ordered a Hair Braider online but it can also be found in the toy aisles at major retailers. I actually had to go buy a second Hair Braider in the middle of my tutorial because the first one stopped working! For this Fab or Fail, the Easy Braider was used on completely dry hair.

It took about 5 minutes to put Rylan’s hair into the Easy Braider, and then less than a minute for the toy to actually braid.

This toy braider is made of plastic and comes with a braider, separator, elastics, and ribbons. You can braid your hair in 3 steps. First, load your hair into the Easy Braider by using the separator and strand pullers. Second, hold the button on the handle to start braiding. You’ll have to move slow if you want a decent looking braid. If you move too fast, that braider won’t work. You also have to be careful while you braid because the hair at the bottom of the separator tubes can get tangled.

Everyone, this is not a sponsored video... I personally bought the Easy Braider on Amazon and at Toys R Us and have had zero contact with Hair Braider. My results and opinion are expressly my own. Also, these results may not be your results, as the final braids take in many factors including hair health, texture, length, etc.

How do I rank the Hair Braider on our Fab or Fail Scale??? I actually give it a half "Fab" AND a "Fail". Why? Because as a hair tool, the Hair Braider is a total fail. It’s obviously a toy and not meant for professional hair styling. I think it’d be easier to simply learn how to braid! As a toy, I give it a semi-Fab because I could see Paisley and other kids playing with it. Is this a gimmick? It could be. You can help decide!

( guitar music, ) [, Mindy ], Oh, oh, oh I let it get twisted! That'S alarming: (, guitar, music, ), Hey guys, I'm Mindy from Cute Girls, Hairstyles and today Rylan is joining me. ( applause, ) Rylan! Hardly ever does this. So we're excited to have her with us today. We are going to be doing a fab or fail and we are going to be fab or failing this little hair toy/braider called the easy braids hair braider.. Okay. This is what it looks like outside of the box.. Now this little do-hicky is supposed to be able to braid your hair, all pretty-like., We're gon na, give it a whirl and see if it's a fab or a fail.. If you guys didn't already know, Rylan has her own Instagram. The username is Rylan, Olivia, McKnight, no caps, no spaces, And you can find her and go check her out because she's super excited and she posts lots of fun pictures, sometimes just pictures of her jeans.. Yes, ( laugh ), So you never know what you're gon na get over there on her Instagram. And if you guys haven't already heard, you need to be aware that we have a new kids channel.. It is called Uniland and you can find it by clicking the little button right up. Here., It's great all mother approved content.. It even teaches kids things like counting some really great learning experiences, but it's super fun and you can definitely see Paisley and Daxton and all of our family over in some of the videos over there., So go check it out and subscribe to Uniland.. Let'S get on to the fab or fail. Okay guys, so once you've got your easy braider, your product itself, the first thing you do, obviously is take it out of the package.. Now, once it's out of the package, you have three little hook. Things like this. You have the hair braider itself. This all comes together.. You do have to put in three AAA batteries which are not included just so you know. You get some little hair accessories, including beads and elastics, and a little bit of ribbon., And then this little hair separator.. So the first thing you have to do is get a small section of hair according to the directions., So I'm kind of guessing cuz. They don't really clarify what a small section looks like, but so let's just let's do this. Just in case I'm taking too big a section. And then you're supposed to separate the hair using this into three equal parts by sliding it in like so.. So that's your separator., Then you clip this little plastic thing over the top and that holds it in place., So that works okay.. Now, before I keep going, I just have to tell you that when we went to the store and we came back and we actually started filming this video, we got out our hair braider and unfortunately, we must have bought a dud, because this is all it did.. No movement like if I force it with my hands: it's kinda sorta work like for a second, but it's obviously not gon na braid. So I actually had to stop filming, go back to the store and buy another one. That looks like it's going to more successfully function as a hair braider.. So at this point the instruction say to take our little hooks these and put them into the machine, and I mean just for sake of I don't think. There'S a specific way to do this, but just because blue on blue and purple on purple makes sense. We'Ll do it that way and pink on white apparently.. Now these are the little hair grabbers. So you're supposed to take this up like this and hook the hair into the hair, grabber., Essentially you're doing kinda like almost like a crochet hook. It'S just gon na kinda grab the hair. And then pull the end of said crochet hook or hair hook, and it pulls it through the pipe. The little tube. Definitely glad I didn't take any bigger sections.. You can see that even as it is falling out of the hook, probably because I have too much in there. And I'm gon na pull down and see that one, because I had too much in there - it kinda pulled funny., I'm actually gon na pull it out. Make less hair and start over on this process, because this is getting a little complicated and messy. ( upbeat music ). So this is not gon na work for big giant fluffy braids like on your whole, head of hair. This is not gon na make two french braids.. This is gon na barely make a little tiny accent braid. This time, I'm gon na hook all three and then pull all three and see if that works a little better without getting messy, which it looks like nope, nope, nope nope.. Look at that. It'S a mess and I haven't even started yet.. Try again: let's do it again: ( sigh ), third time's, the charm.. We got this re-hook try again.! Okay, I think, honestly, that's as good as it's gon na get.. It still isn't like totally perfect at the top, but it's close. Now her hair is longer so they have these little extender tubes.. If you have short hair, I'm assuming you just push them back up and you don't need them, but here comes the real key right. Will it braid, Let's find out. ( machine, whirring ), I'm just sort of ...? Oh, oh, oh! I should note as it twists the hair. You can see that it's actually braiding the hair at the bottom too, which is gon na get stuck going through. So you kinda have to watch this and make sure that this doesn't inter-twangle while it's happening, If it's long hair like her's is., If it's short, hair that wouldn't be an issue., I'm just gon na kinda braid it braid it braid it till. I see the ends. Popping through. And then I am going to elastic it., It did braid. Okay and you just are supposed to just release the separator and voila. You have an accent braid.. Actually it isn't a bad braid. It actually looks half decent. So I have two questions. I want to test a couple. Theories. Number one is: would it work if you don't use the separator, Because I feel like the separator was kind of a hassle. And number two? If I go slower, would it make the braid tighter, as opposed to moving down it faster, making the braid looser ...? That'S what I was thinking., That's what you were thinking too Yeah. So we're gon na test a couple different things and see how it works and how it turns out.. So again, we're gon na start with a small piece of hair.. So if I just kinda eyeball three pieces or even have Rylan hold Rylan hold these for me. Since I'm using another human instead of the separator, if it would work. So third piece, okay, so that definitely did work saved me a bunch of time and I think it turned out a little smoother at the top, not using the separator. But you definitely need a second person.. If you were doing it on yourself, the separator would come in handy., So we're gon na. Do it slow and try to make it a tight braid. Like I'm, barely moving. Oh, oh, oh! Oh! I let it get twisted at the bottom.. That'S alarming.! It'S okay! I just got it twisted at the bottom. We'Re all good! Have no fear. (, guitar, music, ), Okay, so moving a little slower this time this was braid number one, and this was braid number two.. Braid number two definitely did it way, tighter., So braid number two is definitely tighter.. The only trick to doing it slow is that I was too busy watching the top to make sure it was going slow and I forgot to watch the bottom and that's when the hair got tangled.. Okay, the goal this time is to just go down as fast as I can and see. If it really does create a looser braid., So I did it fast, but I don't like it at all.. It kind of doesn't even look like a braid.. I don't know.. I don't know. (, laugh ), But I don't love that one. So don't do that one., Okay, guys! So in conclusion, first of all, let's just go over the facts. Yeah.. The product is normally around $ 24. I found it on sale for $ 19.99 with no coupon., So it's not like crazy expensive, but it's expensive enough that if it's not gon na work like the first one, major (, trill, ) major thumbs, down. So first of all, not 100 % sure I would Give it very high ratings for quality of product, because it does feel like plastic and anyway .... So what do you think Rylan? It depends on the way you braid it. If you braid it slow, it can tangle your hair really fast for a good braid. It can tangle your hair if you're not watching the bottom. And if you braid it fast, then it's just not even a braid.. I am gon na say it did braid the hair right. It didn't just tangle it into a mess. It actually did create a braid and the braid actually looks half decent.. However, I thought the hair separator was a little tricky to use and I still think no matter what we did. We have flyaway hair at the top.. It doesn't want to lay flat right there.. I mean if you're gon na use it for an actual hair tool for sure a thumbs down like fail, fail, fail fail.. I wish it would use more hair, cuz ... Yeah yeah, it's not a very big braid. Even then, however, this is sold in the toy section of the stores and it's actually manufactured by a toy company. So this is not supposed to be like a professional braiding tool. This is supposed to be a toy. Honestly. I just don't see people using this for real, like to really braid their kid's hair. I just don't see it. As a toy, maybe a little bit more, so I'm gon na go fail as a hair tool and a ehh as a toy., I'm gon na. Let Paisley play with it.. I predict that it's either broken very shortly or her barbie's hair is a nightmare very shortly., But she would have fun doing it and if it killed a couple hours or a couple weeks, which is why I'm giving it a ehh.. I definitely think it should also be noted that, for the amount of time it took us to just separate and set up the hair, it would have been a lot easier for me to have just whipped out a braid.. Definitely, if you don't know how to braid use one of my beginning, hair, tutorials and you're golden., So there you have it folks, the easy braid. This is the easy braid is the brand and it's called the hair braider.. So do me a favor guys and leave a comment down below on whether or not you would buy this product or if you have bought it, what your thoughts about it were. Definitely leave me another comment telling me what other fab or fails. Cute Girls Hairstyles: Do you think the Hair Braider is a FAB or FAIL??? Also, our family just launched a new channel FOR KIDS that’s MOM APPROVED called UnilandKids! Rockythepiratequeen: Imagine trying this on afro hair like mine I did not expect 317 likes lol

Anders Öhlund: I remember seeing this thing back when I first saved out a long beard braid and wasn't very good at braiding it myself thinking I'd want something like that... I don't think this would work very well for my long full beard tho. Separating the hair looks like even more of a hassle than normal and I like to braid to the very last strands because with beard hair being stiffer I can get away without using a rubberband. It would be a fun goof tho... maybe for a youtube video or something. "Middle Aged Bearded Man Reviews Kids Braiding Toy"

L Rogers: I see everyone is saying it would be much faster just to braid your hair with your hands. When I try to braid my own hair with many braids I get pretty messed up in the back because I'm just not coordinated enough LOL I think this would work well especially with damp hair.

V Rocket: This seems like, 10 times more work that just, you know, actually braiding the hair.... I could’ve done like 5 braids by the time it takes to set up

mya: This is so much more complicated than learning how to braid yourself

Mariah Wilson: I got this for my nieces from Wal-Mart for $5! Thank you for the video. I think they will love it and have fun with it!

Marisa Liu: That's so cool! Never heard of that kind of tool! But it can only braid the most simple 3 strand braid

minella_uwu: is it me or rylan looks so good in long hair?? i always see her in short hair!! rylan pls have long hair again

mxmoontc: 'It isnt a bad braid, its almost half decent' I DIED

Leanne: Does anyone remember having one of these in the 90s? I'm sure we had these but they looked a little different. There was also one where you could wrap it with string and give yourself a hair wrap.

Abhia Rosetta: I was shocked when it actually braided Rylan's hair!

Pat Mills: I loved that you reviewed this product in such detail. I was going to purchase this for four young girls: two in our family and two close friends. If I see a deal on it I may consider it for one of the girls who's mother died this year. It may help her father braid her hair. Or her American girl doll. But I think I may buy it, and try it out with her, and see what she thinks. It may be too tedious. I am so worried that they may get their hair tangled in a big knot! It did look ok if you are all thumbs braiding or have trouble with fine dexterity. Thanks for the review! How about the hair chalk kits? Or the lip balm or jewelry kits for girls & preteens. I always worry about the quality of the kits.

SidneyAdrienne: In Mexico I used to get my whole head braided by these ladies ....in less the time this video was close to accomplishing ONE braid.

Anastasia santana: I’m using this for my dolls thanks for the tips!

Ava: Woah! I haven't seen Rylan in a while! She was and still is gorgeous! ❤️

Bronwyn Paladin: I feel like it's just easier to braid your hair! The whole process of setting it up seemed kinda complicated!

Pine apple: Video starts at 1:35 And if you just came to see the braiding 5:18

Shambhu Nath: Doing it with hand is pretty more easier and convenient than using this braider which is much complicated and will take timeaap

toe man: This would take longer than doing an actual braid!!

Genevieve Matlovsky: Glad to see Rylan!!!! She is so beautiful and seems so sweet!!! I love the family you've raised Mindy, true role models

MrsHopkins73: Hubby was looking up braiders to do cornrows. Have a feeling this wouldn't work, huh?

Rivkah Song: When I was a little girl and the Pocahontas movie had just come out, they made a Pocahontas themed braiding toy. In one scene in the movie her raccoon animal sidekick had braided a tiny braid in her hair so they made a toy based on it. The handle and trigger are shaped like a tree stump with the raccoon standing on top with his arms above his head. You put one piece of hair in each paw and it rope braids it. Even in the commercial it looked flimsy and terrible, like it would break after just one braid and they were using it on dolls. I don't think even the toy makers thought it was a good idea to use it on an actual child's hair for fear of tangling and yanking the hair out lol.

amelia: I think its a kinda Fail because its easier and it takes less time to braid with your hands. Love your channel!

makala dawn: I have one of those it works great but I have to go slow on it too and I don't use the separator because it gets all tangled but a kinda good toy so I'll give it a thumbs up

Candy Lady: Great Christmas present for lil girls that play with dolls!!! My daughters would have sooooo much fun with this

Jordan Snapped: Just what my dad needs for my little sister no joke ,the man just can't grasp the concept

Summer Rose: Jeez. I could have braided all of the hair on her head by the time it took for that machine to work. Haha. I feel so sorry they had to deal with this.

Annika McPhail: this seems way more complicated than just braiding the hair yourself

Versaillees: The actual braiding process starts at 5:00

Kawzer Jaleel: Y'all inspire me and make me happy through your videos...Rylan is so cute...Mindy is looking great...Love y'all...

Deliah Wu: Actual braiding starts at 5:15 You can thank me later

Goober Trin: It seems to be easier and quicker do braid myself! Cool video tho!

staylixxie: This is way more hard then actually braiding your hair with your hands

Cheyenne Cockerill: Seems like so much more work than actually just braiding lol

Hayley Parsons: Loved the vid! I missed you guys doing fab or fail, so I was super happy when I found out today's video was a fab or fail!! I love you and your family soo much! Y'all are my second family. Love y'all soo much!! Lots and lots of love from Kansas!! 's -Hayley Parsons

Francine Jane Biala: I love that hair braider because it super amazing!

Nelsie McKenzie: Such effort I would have had ten done in the same time as one of these

Chris Roxas: IF its gonna be a professional tool. IF EVER . I suggest a longer tube where the hair goes in so the hair wont get tangled. Or an extension tube that we can attach for different length of hair. But then again this is a toy

Autonomic Chick: In the half hour it takes to maybe do one braid, I would've had my entire head done by hand

Xoxo Main: I'm going to say something about each of you guys. Mindy: You are a great mam and hair stylist. Shawn: You are a great dad and you get along with the kids really good. Brooklyn: You are so pretty and smart. Bailey: You are so pretty and sweet. Kamri: You are so good at guitar and you are so talented. Rylan: You are sweet and a great gymnast and singer. Daxton: You are really smart and sweet. Paisley: You are sweet and so cute. Love you guys

TryIfWeCan a DIY channel: As a father I say this is nice. I still didnt learn how to make nice braids with hand and with this I can hairstyle my daughter.

Kaya Morell: I used to have one of these as a kid one for me and one for my Barbie and neither of them worked Rylans so little!

Miné Van Der Berg: Love your hairstyles

Caelania: ... suddenly they just made braiding so much more complicated than it has to be.

Brie 0404: Love all of you! You whole family is so pretty and positive! Love you guys, been watching for years, ever since Kamri was just sitting on the bathroom counter! I can’t believe how far you have made it! Much love, Brie. #powerhour

Dee M.: Everyone is complaining on here but you do know this is a review video? Lol Love you Mindy your beautiful as always.

Mirai Angelic: This is actually amazing for me cause I'm very bad at doing hairstyles but I don't know if it will work for my hair type

MrsBetty Tracy: I would love to see you do a review of Lilla Rose Flexi clips, and would be willing to send you some to use :-)

nico: i’m pretty sure that’s more work than actually braiding your hair with your hand

Delia B: yay Ryland❤ . I love Ryland she has these fun vibes that just bounce off her and she has great style too

Hdbcjdhbd Jdkfbrbrb: This would be good for dreadlocks!!!!

cmel ya: I have one that looks like that and its amazing.

Jessica Murgatroyd: I'm thinking this would be good for my partner to use so she doesn't look too bad

Regan Leigh: If it did big braids I’d want one

Eve Dunne: You guys are one of the nicest and best role models in this youtube community, I wish the best for you and God Bless ~ XX

Kristina Childs: Why are there so many dislikes??? I like how informative this is ...

Shepley Torrez: since it's difficult for me to braid really small braids at night to curl my hair i would buy this and use it to do braids so in the morning my hair would be curly

Miss Shorty: Oh my word, she could have had half her hair braided by hand within that time it took to get the machine working

Little step prints: The whole process is so complicated and time taking, so it is defenetly easier to braid the hair without it.

Tayan Sophie: Love Cute girl hairstyles and Brooklyn and Bailey!!!! Stay warm and cozy

Zonash Nadeem: Love this family!!!

D'Vasha Lawson: Where have I been this looks soooo much easier than doing it the regular way but it may get work with my hair

Charlotte Hubbard: OMG I need that to curl my hair over night

Tiny Panda: This would totally NOT work on curly hair!

Diana Summer: I have been watching you and the kids for years and i love all of them so much! All of their personalities are awesome and they're all so special in their ways. Oh and happy holidays mindy! ❤️❤️❤️

Alex Smith: Actually if you just let it go the braid at the bottom will seperate it self This only works if you don't use the machine

bby: This is way more work than just braiding it with your hands

Nicole Upsher: Am I the only one that sitting here thinking "wow I wanna do this but wait my hair way to nappy"‍♀️

peyton m: I actually think free hand braiding would take a shorter amount of time! Nice review!

Puppy Lover123: You could braid your whole head stand by strand as fast as you can while setting this up

lontess22: Thank you so much I buyed it and it work

Aurel Lintang Maharani: I thought it will more comfy when we braid our own hair or other people hair bcs from braid when can make memories with them and increase our skill to braid, not just depends on machine ☺️

Hanna Gloria: I rather use the hair separator then braid manually :)

Isabel McCaulsky: Could you also make a video showing how to get thicker and longer hair, and products that you could recommend for your hair

Anika Bhatt: PLEASE DO MORE HAIRSTYLE VIDEOS!!!!!! Love yall❤

bee: That would be nice for me because of my arthrisis. I have to corn row my nieces hair but once I got to the bottom this would save my hands.

Imelda Garcia: Try doing a double dutch braid with that.

Queries Solution: I never knew something like this is also available in market

tram nguyen: Nice But wouldn’t it be faster to just braid it with hands??

eek.wasian: When I was a kid my mom taught me how to braid hair, and that was one of my best memories with my mom. I would never spend money on something that I could do with my hands.

Chloe Shelton: I think it is a fab. But, I also think the tube extenders were to make it so your hair doesn’t get tangled at the bottom.

Megan Torres: Im curious in the applicantion of micro braids using wave of course starting them all but saving your arms on the lengths

Jasmin Cervantes: That even more difficult than just teaching yourself how to a braid

Maryam Zibib: I would definitely buy this

Olivia O'Donnell: Omg rylan looks so grown up in this vid and hope you all have a lovely Christmas❤ x

Thomas Sousa: Wow I am surprised that it worked.I need one of those

Liseth Perez: I had one when I was small and it got stuck in my hair

Laboni Hira: It wont work on short hairs right? But in real life you can braid short hair too lol. Its cute for maybe 5-10 year olds but its too expensive for that. It can be like $7-$10 but not $24.

renata gabrielli: Esse vídeo me fez ter mais vontade de ter cabelo liso

avari: rylan looks so different from just last year ! she's so gorgeous

Sammy: This is so much more complicated than it needs to be!!! Ugh I’m so frustrated just seeing this lol just braid ur own hair with ur hands like a normal person

Aya’s Life: I had this before, the result *drumroll please* It failed badly. Then my mum was like, "don't worry, I can just braid ur hair on my own" and i laughed my mums ones come out better anyways.

Kayla W: i have curly hair and my mom tried it on me and it didn't work, then we tried it on my friend who has stick straight hair and it tangled her hair up so it's a fail

Shireen Shaikh: Instant of this I would braid with my hands and run for my busy schedule Waste of time, but thnx 4 this video :-)

rees hopkins: Yay! I’m so glad Rylan was in this video this time! ♥️

• RAVEN •: ARANGING THE THINGS TAKES MORE TIME THAN BRAIDING SOMEONE'S HAIR

Dana Records: Great for my dad to do for my sister he do it like two not three like an lazy braid

Jucela Godinez: I think its more easy to braid your hair manually and that would be useless if its gonna be broken

Rachel Kornak: That is actually pretty cool
