D.I.Y Flower Hair Clip

Hey to all my crafty divas out there today, i am doing a tutorial on how to make these really cute um flower hair clips um. Now i'm sure you guys have seen these before and there's probably a million tutorials here on youtube. But i've been making these for quite some time and i made them because when i used to go to the beauty supply store when i was younger, they always had these flower clips. And i mean these are the normal, looking ones to me, but they had other ones that were similar to this, that had they have like feathers, coming out of them and um glitter and rhinestones all over them, and they just they really overdo the flowers. I mean, i guess when you're you know nine ten years old, maybe even a little bit younger they're cute, but i mean, as you get a little bit older, you know i like to still wear little flowers in my hair, not maybe not something that this is Huge, but i still like to wear them nonetheless, and i don't want feathers and rhinestones and glitter falling all over my face and everything else so today i am going to show you how to make these now. Like i said these, i got from my local beauty supply store now back in the day when i used to go to the beauty supply store, like back in the day like when i was eight nine ten years old with my mother. These used to be a dollar nowadays when you go to the beauty supply store. These are like 299, 4.99 ridiculous. So i was like i'm not paying that much for these flowers, no, and especially with them, looking as crazy as they look now. So i decided that i was going to start making my own a few years ago and i did - and i only have a few to show you guys, because i don't know where the rest of them are like. I said these ones. I got from my local beauty supply store and these are the ones that have the the clips and the safety pins on the black. The back that way you can use these as brooches um. You can put them on a jacket, you know or, however, you want to wear. These are really cute so, like i said these were from my local beauty supply store and then i'm going to show you real, quick, the ones that i made. If i can find them, i only have a few of them because, like i said i couldn't find the rest of them. This is one that i made really cute right. It'S big, i know, but i wore this during the summer and it was like. I don't know i felt like i was in hawaii or something i don't know, and then i made this one. You guys have seen this in a few videos. I'Ve wore this in a few videos, really cute dainty flower. That'S a little clip on the back. Then i actually just made this. This is a yellow one. It'S like a little puff ball, it's cute again with the little clip on the back, and then i made this one, and this is really cute. This is just again something quick and easy that you can do um to add a little bit of spice. You know to your hair or whatever, okay, so really cute really fun to wear. So today, i'm going to be showing you how to make this one. Okay, i'm going to go ahead and just do another one um and i'm going to go through really quick and tell you all the materials that you will need for this project. Okay, so one you might need a pair of scissors. Okay, two! You will need a glue gun. Okay, all these items you can get at your local dollar, store minus um, one thing one or two things, but the majority of them you can get at your local dollar store like scissors. You can get at your local dollar store. Even the glue guns nowadays, you can get at the local dollar store. Now they're not going to be a dollar. Normally it's around 3.99 or something like that. But if you don't have a glue gun, if you have any type of um, really good adhesive blue, like if you have e6000 glue, of course, for e6000 glue, it does take it like 24 hours to totally dry. So you won't be able to just plop it in your hair and wear it excuse me, but you can use e6000 glue or if you want to use super blue, you could use super glue as well just something that dries really fast and bonds really quickly. That'S what you want? Okay, so scissors glue gun. You will need some type of fabric or felt okay, i'm using felt just because it's cheap and expensive and it comes in every color imaginable. So you want something that's going to match close to whatever color your flower is so, for example, if you have the yellow flower, you can use yellow. If you have the whites, you know flower, you can use white or you know green um. If you have like a pink carnation, you can use pink rosy red or when in doubt always use white gray, black, whatever color you have available today, since i'm going to be doing this color flower, i'm going to be using pink, okay, let's clear off my station Here and then the next thing and the last or no i'm sorry, not the last thing um, but one of the other things that you will need is some type of clips. Now um, you can either use like duckbill clips or you can use some type of like combs. These are side combs, i'm sure you guys have seen these before these. I got from my local uh beauty supply store. They are a dollar 29 for four of them. For little girls, you can use this, you know it might be a little simpler to put in their hair. You just can't slide them in you know, or you can use these duckbill clips that look like this. Okay, they look like this. They come this small or they come bigger and they have there's a lot of other little um like barrette type um things that you can use other than this or if you don't want to use the combs, even if you might want to use a bobby pin. I'M not sure how sturdy that will be or how secure it will be. But if you want to try to use a bobby pin, you can use that as well. You can try it. I'Ve never used the bobby, pin. Okay, so scissors felt clips glue gun. The last thing you will need, of course, is flowers. Okay, now one thing that i do suggest, because this is a budget friendly tutorial - is that don't go and spend a lot of money on flowers. Ladies um, i would definitely suggest going to your local beauty or not beauty supply store going to your local um dollar store. That'S where i got all these flowers that i'm going to show you. I got them from my local dollar store. Um, even places like walmart. Go to walmart in their floral section, it'll be a lot cheaper than going to hobby lobby, joe and fabrics or michael's, unless they're having a really good sale. Sometimes they have really good sales. Where you know their bundles are like 50 off or forty percent off, and if you can get a bundle of different colored flowers, then that's great. But if you're just starting out - and you don't wan na - spend a lot of money which i don't um go to. Your local dollar store, um dollar general deals, um even places like big lots. You know places like that. Even walmart like i said that has a little floral section go there, because it's going to be a lot cheaper than going to your local craft store. Okay, but i suggest going to the dollar store, so these were a dollar. These are really cute um. These are like an orangey color, peachy color. I got those for a dollar. I got these little yellow dandelion. Looking things again, these were a dollar okay. I got these. These are really pretty very summery like these are white and again these were a dollar and i got the yellow, dandelions and the purple ones also for a dollar, then i got the yellow ones for a dollar and then the ones that i'm going to be using Today for a dollar - and i thought these were just really pretty and fun looking because they had the petals like that - okay, so these are what i'm going to be using today. If you have all of your supplies - and you are ready to get started, then let's get started. So the first thing you'll need to do is pick out which flower you're going to be using, and i think i'm going to use this one and you just pull it off the stem. It'S just that simple and i'll also tell you don't throw away. These leaves that come on the the petals, don't don't throw those away because you can use them um today, i'm going to show you, i didn't use them on this flower, but i'm going to show you on this one: how to use the um the leaves to Make the flower just look a little bit more realistic and you know just gives it a fun look? Okay! So what we're going to do is, after you have pulled the flower off the stem you're going to have this little piece sticking out. Okay right here you want to cut that off. Okay, you want to cut it off, and then you want to pull this piece off the back um. Now you don't have to pull this piece off, but i do because i want my flower to lay as flat as possible, okay and um. If you want to leave it on the back, you can. But you don't want to pull this part out, because this is what is holding the flower together and i'll. Show you that's what's holding the flower together in the middle right there, so you don't want to pull that out or all your petals are going to come. Undone, okay and another thing that you could also do is: if you wanted, like a mist or a mix matched, i guess flower, you can mix and match these like if you wanted to like, if i had another flower that was yellow that looked like this, and I wanted yellow and pink petals. I could take the petals apart off of this and then mix the yellow ones with this and just kind of layer them, and then you have a mismatched flower or mix mix max mix match mismatched. Whatever you guys know what i mean, but anyways don't take this out. Unless you are um, you know putting different petals together. Okay, so then what you will need is your felt. That'S where your felt comes in handy. You just want to um cut like a small piece off and it doesn't have to be perfect. I'M just doing a little uh square just like that, doesn't have to be perfect and then i'm just going to glue it on the back over this little piece. That'S sticking out, okay, so get your trusty glue gun and then just put it over the back of that. Okay, just like that, and then put the piece of felt right over it. Just like this and any excess um that you have on here, you can take it off or glue it down. It'S up to you. I just glue mine down. Then i'm gon na cut the rest of this off okay. So there you go. You just have your little patch over the back of it. Okay, now you're going to cut another piece of felt and you might want to do a little bit longer strip in a rectangular shape about this big okay, then i'm going to be using my duckbill clip. That'S what i use for my flowers and then what you're going to do is take your flower. Oh, no, i'm sorry, we're not done yet we're gon na do the leaves we're gon na put the leaves on these um on this flower. So what i'm gon na do is i'm just gon na cut into the leaf just to separate them all just like that. Okay, so now i have three separate leaves okay, three separate leaves and what i'm gon na do. Is i'm just gon na check and see where i want to position them put one maybe right there and all you're going to do? Is you can either put it on the tip of the leaf or you can put it on the back where the petal is? It'S up to you, i'm going to put it on the leaf, just put a dab of glue where the leaf the bottom of the leaf is and you're just going to place it wherever you want it to go. Okay, so i want mine to go right there. So there's my first leaf cute and i think i'm only going to put two on here so just decide where you want the other one to go. I think i want it to go right here and maybe move over this way. Yeah i'll put it right there. So again, you just add a little glue to it: okay and stick it where you want it to go okay. So now you have your petals or your leaves, and it just gives it more of a prettier, realistic, looking flower, okay! So now, don't don't don't throw these away? You could use this for another project. Okay, just put it to the side. Now you'll go ahead and glue your piece of felt to the flower, okay and what you're going to do. This is what i do. I go ahead and put my piece of felt between the clips, like this. Just put it right up here that way, it looks like this. It should look like this. Okay, you want to make sure the flat side is laying is, is facing upwards towards you, because that's what's going to lay on your! You know on your scalp when you put the flour in okay, so make sure this is facing up you're going to put this on the flower like this. Okay, so remember, your flat side needs to be facing upwards. Okay and all you're going to do is you're going to on this side, where the top clip sticks up you're going to be gluing. These two flaps down onto the flower like that, okay, so let's go ahead and do that now, i'm just going to go ahead and add some glue. Okay, just like that you're gon na stick it down onto the flower, okay, and this glue. Of course, you guys know this glue dries really quick, so you really don't have to wait for it. You just want to press it down, make sure the glue spreads out evenly after you get glue off your hands. Then you want to go ahead and glue down the other side. You want to pull pull the pull the felt taut and then put glue on it. Okay and again pull it taut and just place it on the other side, and you want to pull it tight because you don't want your clip slipping out. Okay - and i don't personally put glue on my clip because i don't want it first of all - i don't want the glue getting in my hair or getting stuck on there or anything else. So i don't glue the um. I don't glue the actual clip. I just glue the felt onto the flower. Okay once you do that you're done, so it should look like that. Okay, now, if you want to cut off excess, you know um felt you can do that, i'm not going to because it's going to be laying flat against your head, so you won't need to, but that's the way it should look if you want, if you have Again, if you want to make these into a brooch of some sort, you can add like a pin a little safety pin on there that way they can be a little broach, which would be really really cute or you can do it. You know as a hair bow like i did this one. Okay, so see the the little um see. That'S really cute, like the little leaf adds a little bit of you know, flair to the flower. Okay, so i hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial. I know it was really quick um, but hopefully you guys were able to follow along. It'S really quick, really easy and very inexpensive. Like i said you can pretty much get everything at your local dollar general store. I believe they have glue guns, um that'll, probably range between. You know two 3.99, something like that: 4.99 um. You can get your flowers there. You probably won't be able to find felt there, but, like i said you can go to your local craft store and buy four things of felt for four sheets of felt for a dollar. And then you can get your duckbill clips and you can get your duckbill clips or these combs at your local beauty supply store. They do have the duckbow clips at your craft stores, but you're probably going to pay a little bit more for them. So i definitely suggest going to your local beauty supply store, getting them because they're cheaper um yeah. So that's all i have for you guys today, um. I would love to see what you guys make like. I said i think, the bigger the flowers, the more colorful, the flowers, the prettier it'll, look um. If you want to do small, dainty flowers, like i showed you guys earlier with the little dandelions um, you can do those as well. I don't know if i have any more clips left to show you or else i would have, and i don't think i do actually yeah. I do. Let me go ahead and show you real, quick, okay, so we're going to take. I thought i was done, but i really want to show you guys how you can do it with the small flowers as well. Okay, so same rules apply, get your felt that matches the flower pull off the flower. Okay, just like that you're going to cut off the bottom okay, and i'm just going to leave that bottom piece on there like i said you can pull it off. If you want to - or you can glue a piece of felt right over it, it really doesn't matter with the smaller flowers. You'Ll want a smaller piece of felt, so i'm just doing a little small square again you're going to glue it on the back of this. Okay, just like that, okay, the only thing with the smaller flowers is. You know these clips are probably almost as big as the flower, but you're still really not going to be able to see it. So that's okay, but then you're going to cut another strip, and this is for the um. This is for the duckbill clip okay, again you're gon na stick it in between just like that. Okay, it doesn't have to be perfect you're going to stick it on there. Like that and remember when i said you glue it down, the flat side is going to be facing up towards you. Okay, so now you want to go ahead and even if you, you know, if you had, if you wanted to add flowers to this, to make it really pretty, you could do that and i think i'm going to so i'm just going to cut off another leaf Off of these petals, if i can get it off here there we go so i'm going to glue some petals onto it, just because i think it's going to look really pretty okay and i'm just gon na add both of these on the side. Just like this. Okay, so i just went ahead and just added both both petals on the sides, so it looks like that. That'S really pretty mine is the glue guck, so really cute. Okay, now you can go ahead and add your clip onto it, and also, even though this is a really small flower. What i did is this can also the leaves can also help hide the clip, because, if you would have just added the clip, it might have shown just a little bit, but now that you added the leaf, you can add it straight on the back, where the Leaves are and it will be disguised, so that's also what you can use your leaves for so don't throw away the leaves on the flowers because you can use them okay. So let's go ahead and glue the tabs down; okay position it where you want it to go and just glue the tabs. Okay glue this side down. I hate getting glue on my fingers ugh, but i like tearing it off it's where i hate getting glue on my fingers, but then i like tearing them off. You know when you tear the glue. Did you used to do that when you were a kid put? Elmer'S glue all over your fingers and smush it all in and then let it dry and then peel it off. I know that's probably really weird and quite disturbing to some of you, but i know you guys. Probably did it too anyway, then you're going to go ahead and glue the other flap down again, you want to pull it taut, okay, pull it taut and glue it down. Just like that, all right and there you have it another, really cute little hair bow. This would be really cute if you have a daughter, if you wanted to put it on the side of her hair or if you have her hair up in a big pigtail, and you want to put it like right here, where her pigtail is, show you how This one looks really cute. This is something again really small if you don't like the bigger flowers like these. This is something really small and dainty and cute that you can do on your own. That um, you know oops my flower's bending a little bit but yeah. These are really cute, really fun. Okay, i just wanted to show you guys really quick with the smaller flowers.
