We have been working on this project for the past 12-18 months! Like, we were SO INTENTIONAL in every aspect of the line's concept and designs! It all started with the central accessory to the line, the Padded Plaid headband. We had been seeing plaid patterns common in vintage mens' suit jackets and hats becoming popular as accents in women's fashion styles. I loved it! Once we found the perfect pattern, then everything else was designed from the colors found in that foundational plaid! So the whole line is coordinated, and will work with pretty much any outfit you put together this Fall!

( cheerful music, ), Hey everyone., I'm Mindy from Cute Girls, Hairstyles. Sana is joining me, Hello, your favorite McKnight Sana, and she is going to help me today because we are talking all things. All Upper East Side, Hairitage by Mindy collection. Woo hoo. So I get so many questions all the time in my DMs about people wanting to know how it works, how we develop a collection, how we develop products., So we thought it'd be fun to walk you guys, through a very, very, very, very short version of what We experience. Just so everybody knows.. How many months would you say it took to develop this collection? I mean we started a year ago. It literally it's a full year., The theme. For fashion accessories. If we're talking hot tools, it's usually more like a year and a half to two. Yeah, so with the accessories I mean we start with from picking the theme to the info, the colors, the fabrics, the actual types of accessories., All those things we're going to walk. You through all of it. Okay., So first, let's give you a shot of what the Upper East Side collection looks, like. And it's so good. [ Sana ], Yes, [, Mindy, ], It's so good. [, Sana, ], It is. Okay.. So the first collection we launched was Art Pastel.. I think that we cut our teeth on that. Hold up hold up hold up.. You got to throw it back to The Art of Pastel.. They have to see what was our first collection ever.. Okay. Well, maybe we'll throw it back to the art of pastel., Throw on a back, Throw on a back Now. When was our first experience diving into this, And I think we started a little later than we probably should have.. So I feel like this is the first collection, where we kind of like knew what we were doing and really pulled it all together in a really beautiful way.. First up was thematic.. Basically, the team comes to us and goes: what do you want to do And we were like. And then Sana and I put our heads together and we start getting to work.. So what we had noticed was we started looking at trends trend boards. What'S coming in colors cause we're working like a year ahead., So we have to be looking at. What'S coming a year from now., We fell in love with a men's, wear jackets., As you guys know, we also have lash next door., And so there were a bunch of vendors and even hairitage vendors who had sent us like mood boards of what was trending on The runways and based off of that, I don't think we actually ended up, loving, necessarily any of the actual trend boards we got until we started seeing some of the men's wear., But I think Mindy, you kind of you went like Duluth mode.. She was like inside of Pinterest., And then we realized that gossip girl was rebooting and right about the same time. And it was like lightening. Yeah. We were like angels were singing., That is it., So the first thing we did was develop our plaid.. I think the plaid was maybe the most challenging part.. It was because the plaid was kind of it was a centerpiece. And so every color that we wanted in the line needed to be reflected in the plaid., Because when we first decided you know you're like ,'', Hey, we want headbands.'', So fall headbands.. These were just a few of the ones that we pulled like as just conceptual ideas. Like. Do you want a knot? Do you want it to be fuzzy? Do you want it to be corduroy? Do you want it to Velveteen Like what do you want You know., So these were just some of the conceptual headbands., So we figured out. We wanted a padded plaid headband.. This is the actual headband. Everybody just round a applause., It's so cute.. But after looking at all of those samples, we decided we wanted a padded, not too padded.. I mean you have to test the padding, the thickness, the squishiness all the things, but we decided padded headband. And then we started getting plaid samples.. So we request samples from different manufacturers and we start getting things like this.. These are all just various plaids and [ Sana ]. It'S like a various materials. And like various colors. [ Mindy ], I'm sure that they were hoping. We would just pick one off of this and go that one's perfect.. But if you assume that you don't know us., You do not know us very well, because we were like scratch all of those.. We got it like, drew it out on paper.. We were like we want this many stripes. And then it needs to be this color., And then this many and it needs to be like this and criss-cross like that. And then first rendering we got back was this.. Is it facing the right way, Yeah., Which is terrible.? We started getting closer and closer and closer and closer until we came up with this one. And then we started getting. I don't even have some of these, but then they start sending it to you in different weaves. And like thickness and quality., Softness and quality. And of course, always keeping in mind like margin, you still have to be able to make money off of selling them.. So you know you have to keep that in mind, depending on your price point and figuring out. How long are the tails? Does it have a double knot? Does it have a single knot And like how wide is the scrunchie itself And we ended up coming up with this? Is the scarf crunchy? Obviously this is the headband. They're, so cute., Then we were like. We know we want more fall, warm cozy. We wanted something that was really soft and squishy and thus was born these guys.. So, for example, what I can tell you on this one, it wasn't sweatery enough.. It feels more velvet. The knot was too high. On this one. If you compare the colors, this one ended up being too yellow.. We felt like it was too creamy. [ Sana ]. You can see this as black underneath you could see black come through underneath the fabric. [ Mindy ], So we swapped that to cream Swapped to white, So we tested all those things and then beads.. So we had to change out.. We had pink and green hair clips that looked like this, that were beaded. And we knew we wanted gold and slate blue.. We thought it would be so pretty. And they are slick at home., [, Sana ] And pulls from the fabric.. So remember this is the anchor of the collection. And the blue and the gold is what we said to pull out from the bead, the beaded clips.. But you would be surprised how difficult it is to find the right, color, blue and the right color gold.. Remember we did, we like did a tour of bead stores in town in Dallas., And then we broke them all up into little Zip locks and we sent them all to our manufacturers. And we said you have to match the beads, because these are the beads that match what we're going for. And so anyway ended up with these lovelies.. We knew we wanted kind of like wanted to anchor., I mean When we pulled all the colors from the supposed plaid. Yep.. So you can see the four like the five main colors here: the cream, the slate blue, the gold, the red, bronze and chocolate brown are kind of the thematic colors.. So then we started matching other things.. The athletic twists turned into cream and red bronze., And then we knew we wanted one little black, because we loved their little velvet bow for Christmas time for holiday. And on these scrunchies these guys These are final.. So these are two pack of scrunchies these corduroys, which we also wanted to go really wintry. And what's more wintry than corduroy., So we did a corduroy cream and gold and then a two pack of slate blue and chocolate brown.. These are some of like sample things. We get. When we say quarter-inch scrunchies and these colors. Then we start getting things like this and then you get various. You know like the width of the corduroy itself is different and then size. Okay.. So you get like on your satin scrunchies right here. You know you have to put it on your wrist and test it.. Does it look good on your wrist? Does it double up in your hair and look cute, Or does it look too big and poofy, And then you have to do things like check? The stitching is the stitching., Can you pull it apart? Can you recall [ Sana ] Stitching was so important. Is it stitched inside or outside.? Can you stretch it and yank and pull on it Without the rubber band inside braking Yeah Yeah like we do all these crazy things.? So then you have finals all the finals of all the things and then you get it to go to packaging.. So then it turns into do you want it sitting on a card like this? How is it hanging on the Walmart store, Even where the heritage level will be stamped on to the packaging and what goes on the back? What the copy is the clips go horizontally straight across? Do they sit just you know on a diagonal? Does the heritage logo need to be moved to the left? Is it too big? Is it the right color, Because we have certain colors, that we use certain pen tones for all of our grays and pinks. And do they all match each other? Well? Well, after you do. All of that then comes all of that.. Then you have to convince Walmart to pick it all up. So cause. Actually, this collection, I think, was a little bit bigger.. We had a couple of extra items.. We had to shuffle some things around And then you go to Walmart and they know what sells in their particular store, how much space they have on their modular., And so they start kind of sorting and picking favorites and what they think will sell.. And you kind of have to break it down. It. I think this may be the hardest part for me, because then I start, I start getting emotionally attached.. She falls in love, We all fall in love. And if they like, if I went to them - and I was like oh - I love this collection so much. And then they were like throw out the plaid.. I mean it ruins the entire thing which they didn't do.. Obviously, part of my job is to convince them that they have to take the plaid And it were with from Walmart's Leavis.. There were items that we ended up, keeping from art a Presto right. And bringing it into this collaboration which, like the Pearl, headband cause this one was selling so well that they were like thinking. This would be a great holiday., So let's carry it through. And it made sense. And then some of our more daily use elastics and things like that. Obviously continue through., That's the making of the collection, but we're not done yet.. So now you have your collection, you have your buyer bought in on your collection. You have your modular developed and you have to create your go to market strategy.. You go from product development hat to on your marketer hat And photographer hat, and your Social media marketing yep all that good stuff.. So then we get to develop the campaign.. We almost named it almost immediately.. We were like this has to be like a New York. Theme., It's like gossip girl, But you can't call it. God. I can't call got some girl lesson for all the entrepreneurs out. There. Don't go, take them to other people's trademarks., So we call it upper east side with a nod to the gossip girl themes., And then we decided the girls would all go shoot.. We decided we needed to shoot on location in New York, wanted like street walking photos almost like paparazzi style., So we had to find and hire the whole crew figured out and got to New York, find it and hire the stylist. The photographer, who else Makeup artists hair.. So then we go in July. We all fly out., We start at. Like 5:00 AM in the morning we shoot 5:00 AM. [ Mandy ]. It was July guys.. We shot these pictures in July and October because it takes that long to do all the marketing stuff we need., But and we were just like dying., We were just like sweating to death.. I had a tank top on underneath.. I remember it was like it was literally like wet a little portable tent. We'd pop up and we'd hop in the tent and change all our clothes and pop back out., And we were in these giant heels like which your feet are: dying. Yeah., [, Sana, ], You'Re, like hobbling over the cobblestone in New York., And the only thing I think that got everybody through that shoot was just like constant cold drinks, ice cream., So yeah., Then we shoot all the assets.. We take all of those videos and photos and we develop them into IGTVs. Ig Reels TikToks photo carousels all the things., And then we start planning our social strategy and working with Walmart to figure out when they're going to set in store and when they're going to be online, so that we make sure all the things are there.. And this year that's a whole another story.. We won't even waste time talking about supply chain this year, but it's been a disaster.. If you can get your hands on these right now In store online buy them.. So please, when you go in the store, stop and admire all upper east side a little more thoroughly, or just at least pause to acknowledge the thousands and thousands All the hours Of hours that go into the creating of this one. Collection.. And the thing is like we're doing it twice, this year. Plus we're launching hot tools for launching new wet product.. So I don't sleep pretty much Tag. Mindy inherited.! If you end up buying them post photos on your social sharing with your friends. We really hope you guys love them., XO, XO, Bye, Bye, (, Cheerful, music, )
