My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.

On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!

I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.

You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

Hey guys welcome to a new video if you've been watching my channel for a while. I am sure you have seen this bow in a video here and there and every time I use this bow in a video. I get so many questions about where I got it all the thing is, I don't remember, I probably got it at Claire's when I was like 14 years old. I have had this pretty much as long as I can remember, but these things hair accessories like this are actually really really easy to make. So today I thought it'd be fun. If we made some hair bows together, I'm gon na show you how to do it. I'Ll show you two different types. I will be using this piece of fabric for one of them and a thicker ribbon for the other, so we're gon na do two types of hair bows, so this one is attached to one of these snap clips in the back. So I will be using those for this video as well. I have two of these little snap Clips here. So, let's get started for the first bow we're going to need a fabric of choice. I have this really pretty brown with florals. We are going to need fabric scissors needle and thread the snap clip hair accessory. Whatever you choose and we're going to need a hot glue gun to start, I am going to be making my go so for that. Actually, this fabric is at a width that works for this project cuz. I will be folding this three times like that and then bullying the two sides it works and then that's going to be the size of my bow right around this size which should fit onto my clip pretty nicely. However, there is one step that I have forgotten, which I definitely shouldn't have done prior to filming, but hey the fabric should be ironed, because I have a big ol crease in my fabric here, which I'll have to iron out first, so I will be right back. Alright, we are back with appropriately ironed fabric, so, as I mentioned, I will be folding this in three in about the width or the height that I want my boats, you end up with think something like this should be big enough. I don't want it to be too big, but my fabric along this fold. Now, if you want it to be super super thorough, you could sew this down or kind of fell this to the fabric. I don't really think it's necessary, because we aren't going to fold this and it's gon na be in the inside anyways, because we're gon na fold both of these and towards the center, that this is where I am actually going to sew again. You don't necessarily have to do that, but I do feel like this will add a sturdiness to the bow that is worth it. You could actually just really simply lay these on top of each other and then just with a very quick running back stitch attach them to each other. Now this doesn't have to be super neat. The scene won't be visible in the finished result. This is really just to make sure that this holds together. It will make the process a little bit easier once we start attaching the bow to the clip alright, so then next you will need a thin little strip to make your center piece. So I'm just gon na cut another strip off of this fabric doesn't have to be full-length, but do you make it wide enough if you do want to hold this at three times again? Think about this? Much should be enough, so I'm gon na fold it in pull it in and then I'm going to wrap this around the bow squish it the way we're going to attach. This is by using the hot glue gun and I am actually going to start by hot glueing, the center of the bow to the center of the clip, so that it is attached like that. But once that is glued, I'm going to take my little centerpiece. I'M gon na pull it through this round bit of my clip and around the bow alright, and when I'm happy, I am going to add a dollop of glue right underneath that little round part and stick one side of the fabric down and I'm gon na cut Off this excess fabric on one side, I'm gon na add another dollop of glue right on top and then take the other side of the fabric. Stick that down as well. I'M gon na try and pull it through that little round bit make sure it's tight enough in the front that the bow looks nice and if you're happy with it, you can snap off the excess on this part as well. If you want it, you could just add a little extra dollop glue just to finish off this edge, and there is your first snap clip bow finished, really really cute, really easy to use and 100 % customizable to your tastes. So for the next one, I'm going to use the same type of snap clip, but this time I will be using a ribbon to make my boat. So I have this really beautiful white ribbon with silver sparkles or it is kind of like a silvery thread along the edge and I think it'll be perfect to make a little bow out of, and for this one I want to make some hanging bits down the Front as well, just like this one has it. I feel like that's what really sells this bow, so I'm going to make my bow in three parts I'm going to make my loops, I'm gon na make my Center bit and I'm going to make my hanging parts. So, let's determine the size of the bow. First, I think shouldn't be much smaller than the snap clip not too big either. So I think around this size should be good, so let's snip it off the center here, so there I have my Center we're doing this thing shape as we did with the previous one. So then, for my hanging bits compared to this, you think maybe that long should be nice, and I think I will cut them at an angle now. If your ribbon is synthetic, then you could very carefully seal the edges by taking a lighter and just holding this next to the flame, be careful not to burn it! That will kind of melt the plastic and seal the X so that it doesn't fray. So I'm gon na do that both and to be really careful when you're doing this, you could do the same thing to these edges as well. By the way you want to make sure that your ribbon lasts as long as possible. All right! So that's what my bows going to look like so now. I just need my little centerpiece, which I am just going to cut from this ribbon as well. Think about this. One should be in that I'm going to fold this in threes again, just so that it isn't too wide alright for this bow, since it consists of three different shapes and lunches, I think I'm gon na make the whole bow separately and then attach the whole thing To this clip this one's also a little bit lighter than the fabric one, so I feel like we don't need to wrap it around the actual clip for it to still hold so. First, let's sew these two bits together. The next step is to take my two end bits and the bow, and I'm going to wrap this little bit around all three of these two all two of these, both Wow language on point today, just not gon na squish everything together and while I'm happy with How it looks I will hot glue this together cut off the excess carefully seal. It I'm going to add again a dollop of blue to my snap, clip here right in the center and attached. Well now, if you want, you could also add a little bit of glue on both ends of the clip that'll just make the ribbon hold shape a little bit better and the bow of course, and results, especially if you're, using a bit of a flimsier fabric like This then, it's really important to add these two on the ends as well, but once you've done that there is your second snap clip hair bow done as well, alright guys! So those are my two DIY hair bows. Like I mentioned, you can make this out of any material. If you want to go for a more romantic boat like this one, then any kind of more sheer see-through, lighter material would be better, but honestly anything can find can be used for this. So I really hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and found it helpful guys if you do don't forget to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for lots, more beauty and lifestyle content. If you would like to support me through patreon or emerged or BB links in the description box below, thank you so much for your support. There is another video here that I think you ought to enjoy. You can go watch next. Thank you for watching and I'll see you very soon in my next video bye,

Stephanie Morey: Did you know that 'round bit' on the clip comes out? It's so girls with thicker hair can use the clips also. And it pops out easily and can be put back if you like. Your bows turned out beautifully. Thank you.

Sadie McC: I have an old, too-small skirt that I have actually been meaning to turn into a hair bow like yours. Thank you for reminding me, and for the instructions!

nikki: What a perfect way to use up all those random fabric scraps I have! Also (I think) a really perfect Christmas gift. Thank you for putting this up!

Uru: Whenever you make these videos I am always filled with inspiration to follow your tutorials. The bows came out adorable!

aristopoieo: So so pretty! You're always so nice looking lucy :) i hope this doesn't come off as weird but your little round face and the browns you usually wear make me think of you as a cookie. I loved this video so much, i think i'm gonna make some for my friends

Catrina Annelyn Del Rosario: Thank you for the tutorial! I loved it! I have to try this some time.

Namyi: Wow I never knew it could be that easy and so nice to make. I will definitely be making a few of these <3 Yours turned out so Clean and Cute!

Nory: Awesome tutorial! I would love to make some and it looks so easy ~

Hanna Belle: Omg this video READ MY MIND. In college I wore hair bows every single day and it was kind of what I was known for I havent worn hair bows for a couple years and been thinking about bringing them back. But I dont have my old collection this is so helpful!

elizabethdalloway: I used to wear bows all the time when I was younger and I loved it. Now I see my students wearing them and I want them back! I'll make them now. Thank you for this

Ericka Lumain: I made this today! I love it, ma'am. Thank you! I'm a teenager but loved vintage styles than modern styles, I'm happy that I saw this ;))

Анастасия Шадрина: A very helpful tutorial! Thank you ☀️

Amanda Currier: The white bow looks so cute in your braid in the end. Great tutorial!

Rebel Diva: We have such similar fashion, I absolutely adore you! Also, I really want to cut my own bangs, and I’m planning on using your video as a reference, because I really liked how your bangs turned out! You’re a fashion icon! Groeten uit Amstelveen btw!

Vi: I love wearing ribbons and bows on my hair !!! It looks soooo cuteee

Diksha Gupta: This one is really amazing ❤️

Lindsey Stein: I love bows and always have one in if my hair is up. I’ve sewn a few to hair ties, as well. I might try this method with some thin ribbon for when my hair is half up. I just chopped my hair, it’s a bob with the length to the middle of my neck, so I like a smaller bow now

Jade Rawkins: Ooh, I have some Harry potter fabric that I've been needing something to do with it. I might make some hair bows now

femketjeNL: I really love that first one, lovely fabric :D

amanda burns: this is great - thanks for making this!

Stacey LaValley Lambert: Thank you for sharing! I love this!

mydearalice: I WAS JUST LOOKING AT HAIRBOWS OMG THANK YOU LOL! I wanted to buy some but they're so expensive... it would be more cost efficient to buy everything myself and make them all in the colors I want lol! I hope you do a DIY for other hair accessories or a choker!

Ruzenka Pampeliskova: Wow so cool idea~ i will definitely try! Thank u that u are here for us! ☺️❤️✨

So nich Frollein: Great video! In all honesty though, what fascinates me the most is that an item from Claire's lasted longer than a few weeks.

Woeschhuesli: First of all, ask your mom/aunt/grandmother if they still have any of these bows!! I had loads in the early 80s!! In English, these clips were called „barrettes“... also, if you have thick hair, you will need a bigger size than this and remove the rounded part (as someone else mentioned) but you won‘t be able to wrap the fabric under the bar if you want to be able to close it over your hair, just stick the bow on top.

Pallabi s: Ooo so helpful and so cute .... I love this ❤️❤️

Xo Red: I was literally thinking of doing this instead of buying them online. Wow. Lol thank you!

Krystal Lights: These bows are sooo cute❤️❤️❤️

Magic Minutes: I think this is So simple to make Material is easily available Will not take to much time Will look pretty So, everything is working in favor....☺️ Definitely I'll make this. Thank you so much mam
