In this video I'm going to share the basics of how to use a hair stick to pull up your hair. I'm also going to show you three different hairstyles that are super quick and easy to do, and don't require any other tools beside the hair sticks.

Hey guys today, I would like to introduce you to the magical world of hair sticks. If you haven't been introduced already using sticks to pull up, your hair is something that has been done for centuries upon centuries, and I personally really like using hair sticks as well. They are a super quick super easy and super hair friendly and comfortable method. To put your hair up. Hairstyles with hair sticks tend to distribute the weight of your hair better across your head. If you have lots of right very long or heavy hair and they never leave a crease in your hair which hair elastics do - and it is a little harder if you are wearing a hair - stick to pull your hair too tight. So you get a headache from it, so loads of benefits, I'm gon na share with you knee kind of basics, of how to use a hair stick and then three different hairstyles using hair sticks that I think are really cute. I have a video about. Hair sticks already that it's like from way in the beginning of my youtube channel in the days when I video it won't take horrible. So if you have seen that video in the past - and I am going to be repeating myself a little bit - but I'm just gon na start by going over the basics - so I am going to be using these hair sticks today. These are the double pendants from SIA designs, which is a wonderful, sustainable zero-waste at the co brand. I have a blog post about them on my blog, which I will link below as well as their website. So you can go check those out if you'd like more information about this brand, but these aren't the sticks, I'm gon na be using today. So the basic technique is pretty much. Usually you will make a bun with your hair and then use the hair. Stick to kind of weave the bun to your scalp as it working while it's your actual scalp look to the hair that is closest to you. So let me demonstrate with just a simple basic twisted bun so say I were just to twist my hair. Do a simple, cinnamon bun then I will grab one of my hair sticks and I will poke it into my bun on the edge right here. Then I will kind of scrape across my scalp underneath the button and then I will come back out through the bun. Again through the bottom or side of the bun right here, and that is pretty much all it is super secure now this will not go anywhere. You can wear this all day long, and this is just one speak so for extra security. You can take a second stick and kind of put that in across the other side - and this is absolutely fail-proof and super simple. This is pretty much the technique now. I have pretty thin hair myself. I don't have a lot of hair if your bunk is much larger. When you do this, you could consider weaving kind of back and forth between the bun in your scalp, like that, which will make it a little bit more secure. I personally don't need that, but yeah that is pretty much the basics of how I put your hair up with her sticks. So let's continue with the other hairstyle. So the first one that I want to share with you is a bun, and it is one that I have known about since my long hair community days years ago, but have never done on my channel, because my hair is too thin for it and doesn't really Work for my hair, except for when I use a hair stick. So here it comes. It is actually really simple. You once again pull your hair into a ponytail in the back of your head. Then you wrap the hair around your head, like that, and you will start wrapping that tail around the little loop that you have in your hand like that. So then you just tuck the ends underneath and then you will kind of slide that loop over the little wrapped part that you just made and kind of poke it through and now for some people this space as it is for me it definitely doesn't. I mean hair sticks with this, so I'm gon na slide mine through, like that and for a little bit of added security. I'M gon na slide one through the other way as well, and there you go a nice little Nautilus, bun held up by two mystics by the way. One of my favorite things about hair sticks is this. The second style is going to be a little bit of a French twist almost so I'm gon na gather all of my hair into a low ponytail. Here I'm going take my hair stick and guide it underneath and I've got switched this around kind of take all that hair twist again and in the meantime, I'm gon na go up with my hair. Stick to where's the crown of my hair: hey pretty much want to keep twisting until it feels nice and tight. If you have any little piece of hair hair. This is the time to tuck it. Underneath that roll just make sure it's nice and hidden away. Then I'm gon na turn this hair stick around scrape it across my scalp on top there and stick it in kind of wiggle it in there. And there is your super quick and easy French twist, and it's really nice and secure as well. Now for the next hairstyle, I am going to start by making a really quick French braid. So I'm just gon na start right up top here, separate my hair into three sections and start making my French braid when I've reached the nape of my neck, I'm gon na continue this braid all the way down to my ends. Now, of course, I promised no hair elastic, so I'm just gon na hold this for now. While I take my hair stick and stick it through bottom of my braid here and I'm gon na, take the braid itself and wrap it around this hair. Stick when I reach the ends, I'm gon na tuck. Those underneath then take my second hair. Stick I'm gon na stick that in as well I'm gon na poke it into the braid right here, go underneath kind of diagonally and then come out of the bun again on the other side right there, and there is a really quick and cute elastic free, braided. Bun, so those were the hairstyles and the kind of basic technique that I wanted to share with you today. I really hope you do give her six a try. One day they are one of my hair. Staples have been using them for years, and these ones by SIA designs are especially gorgeous, so do check them out in the description below. I really like you enjoyed this video guys if you did have kids to give a thumbs up subscribe to my channel for a little more beauty and lifestyle videos. There is another video here this you may also enjoy. You can go watch next. Thank you. So much for watching and I'll see you very soon in my next video bye,

Clara J: I just got an amazing hairstick in the mail, it was kind of expensive, but it was handmade and one of a kind. My mother broke it, but it holds amazingly well superglued together.

Shelby Masako: I love using hair sticks! These new hairstyles are going to bring so much variety into my hair stick routine. I usually just go for a regular bun. Thanks!!

Blue Ollis: I have just bought a hair fork and love putting my hair up with it! For the first time putting my hair up doesn't hurt my scalp by the end of the day, it's WAY more secure than an elastic band and it looks lovely, too. Can't wait to try these other styles, too. Thanks for sharing!

mce1939: Great video! Your hair looks very cool with these hairsticks. I used to wear hair sticks in the late 80s and in the 90s, but I always forget about them! I still have them, so I guess they are "vintage" now haha! Your video inspired me to get out my old sticks & use them again :)

Windowmaker: I know this is 2 years old now at this point, but I just wanted to say thanks so much Lucy! I have wanted to use hairsticks for so long now, but every type of bun I tried from other videos would never stay and just fell out. The second one here is the ONLY one that I've found that actually works for me! Thank you!!

Sillie82: Aaah, hairsticks. I absolutely adore them, and use them almost dayly. It's the only way I can put my hair up for an entire day without getting a headache. <3

Jennifer Grove: I have NEVER been able to get the hang of french braiding. I know it takes practice but do you have any good techniques for a simple french braid? Especially on yourself? It's so pretty, so I'd love to get it down!

Elisabeth Schlarb: I love these! I feel so elegant when I have my hair up with hair sticks. Thanks for the great video!

Anastasia Purr: French twist one is my favorite! It’s really really secure, but it’s so tight it almost hurt a little bit. I also really like the French braid one

Helena Mahdessian: I've been using chopsticks for a simple twisted bun--I can't wear buns without some form of hairstick. Thank you Loepsie for showing different hairstyles using hairsticks, I really appreciate it and will definitely give them a try :D

Poppy Noir: I've been looking for some good stick tutorials!! Please do more hair stick styles in the future

fourth panda: No matter how many times I try, whenever I let go of the bun with the stick through it, it just all falls apart instantly

Valynne Preska: Thank you for making this video and showcasing such a great company! Just ordered a pair of the pendans and I can't wait to use them! I'm a bartender, so always have to have my hair up, and I just love the soft, relaxed look of hair held up by hair sticks.

MyLoVeLyMaN: I love hair sticks.. Use them every day! My every day way to make it is the first updo you show in the video. (the one after the cinnamon bun) That offers an amazing hold of your hair, especially if you do that after having braided your hair

Cheese Puff: These hairstyles are beautiful and you make them look so easy. Your French braid was particularly lovely

Iris L: Usually, I just do a regular bun when I use hair sticks. But these styles look like so much fun. Actually, I have used a pencil at my desk at work in place of hair sticks with that french twist. It always astounds my shorter haired co-workers that I can put my long hair up with just a pencil.

Yair Moreno: Your old tutorials of hair sticks saved my life (French antenna and Chinese Bun) when my hair was waist length and not using any producy for hold (Harcore LHC er at the time too :P). Even tho my hair is shoulder length I still manage to do a french braid and weave the stick though and tuck my ends nicely! Genius and holds like a rock! Other styles like nautilus and wraps my hair laughs at, it is sooo slipery!

Donna Dieter: My hair is long, straight, and fine like yours, and almost the same natural color. It got thinner after menopause. Your bangs are so beautiful! I like a very light fringe that sometimes I can do myself.

potato chan: This is my first time using these hair sticks and following your tutorial really helped me. Thank you!

Hannah Green: More please! Love hair sticks and I have fine hair so it's hard to find styles that stay.

Elizabeth: I love this idea of hair sticks! Beautiful hair tutorial!

Grumpy Kitten 🐱 😡: i use a very long ornate chopstick as hair stick. My local asian 1$ has them, and they are really useful and pretty.

Elisabeth Schlarb: Oh my gosh I love these styles so much! Thanks for sharing! ❤️

ItsArpitatime: Bless you for this video! I have been wanting to learn the technique forever!

Lenne Float: i would love to be able to do these! my hair is sadly too thick and i would need at least another 5-6 inches in order to be able to try out these styles (my hair is about 21in from root to end). Although i did already order a hair stick and a hair fork i will need to find some half up/half down styles. I cant wait to be able to try these!

Haven Osteen: I'm so glad I found this video. I've been wondering how to do other kinds of buns with hair sticks. The only way I knew before watching this video was the pencil trick.

rongpazzz: Timings: 1:50 1st bun 3:24 2nd bun 4:34 3rd bun Thank me later

Dakiniwoman: I watched your video a while back and really loved this idea... since then I used a pencil for a while... then I ordered a sandalwood carved hair stick... it was beautiful but fell out of my hair because my hair is fine and slippery & the wood is very smooth so it doesn't grab the hair at all... then I ordered a sterling silver two-prong hair stick that was costly but extremely beautiful... it is quite short... I am learning how to use it but found immediately that no pressure can be put on it because the prongs bend very easily... I am going to order some more different hair sticks... also I tried using the "orange sticks" that one can buy for doing manicure and they work wonderful especially using two sticks... Thanks for a great video.... Your hair sticks are different because of the wide part in the middle.... maybe that is what I need for my very slippery hair... My hair is waist-length but thin and fine.

Angelique Coppolino: Hallo Lucy! Thank you for the tutorial! I was born in the Netherlands and my family moved to Canada when I was 7 years old

Wanda Pease: Love the ideas! I will look for the sticks. They will work better than pencils which is what I’ve used before.

JijiInACup: Wow this is perfect! I just bought some hair sticks. Will definitely try these styles out

Alicea Davis: Thank you for this! I’ve been trying to figure out how Angelina Jolie wrapped her hair up to preserve her curls in that one Mr and Mrs Smith scene for the longest!

MilesPH: I'm new to using hair sticks and it seems so easy, but at the same time I'm slowly learning that my hair is both too thick and too short (at the moment) to work, so I'll be back when I get another few inches! Thanks for the tips! I'm sure they'll work wonders when I can finally use them. <3

Emma: I am sick of having to repurchase hairbands all the time, I might give these hairsticks a try!

Amy Mandeville: Thanks for the tips and tricks. I always wondered how to use hair sticks!

Kayla B: I still can’t find anyone doing a tutorial for really long THICK hair ‍♀️

Gina Galluccio: I have used a pencil or a knitting needle in a pinch when I needed to get my hair up and out of the way of my face. :-)

Jennifer Stilwell: Great video! My hair is relatively thick with long layers. Would the layers prevent me from using hair sticks?

Katherine D Emerson: Thanks SO much!! I also have fine hair and my hair won't hold many of the up-dos and/or hair accessories I've tried. Fingers crossed for some luck with these. Have a lovely day and Hello from Ontario, Canada :)

A20_Bunga Wati: Thanks for making this video I'm finally able to put my hair in a bun with hair sticks most of the videos put there just meant for people with longer hair

H -: Love these looks

Anastasia Purr: Looove the twist!! I’m buying stocks NOW! They also look so unique

Morning Star: Wow. Very nice. I was looking for these kinds of styles for a very long time as I have a great fascination for hair sticks. Thank you very much. Love from India.❣❣❣

Phoebe Whitaker: I’ve got really long, thick hair and hair sticks are the only way I can put my hair up and have it stay! I’ve broken many a bobby pin and hair elastics in my day, but hair sticks always have my back!

Corrine Wager: I have been wearing hair sticks for about 10 years now and they are the best accessory to make a simple, protective hairstyle to get your hair out of your face. I am growing my hair out again, and it breaks much less than when I used to use hair ties, ties also gave me headaches and hair sticks do not. My ideal length for a hair stick is 6.5 inches or 17cm. I sometimes buy them, but usually make my own from pretty wood dowels. I whittle them to a taper with one end and sand them smooth. I usually only use one hair stick at a time and usually only wear my hair one way. I hold the hairstick horizontally in my right hand, with the pointy end facing my left side, and with the left hand, hold my hair and twist it a little bit so it is tidy. Hold the stick right above the hair you have in the other hand. Then, I wrap my hair around the hair stick 2 or 3 times, going over and then under the hair stick, with the bottommost coil of hair on the right side of the stick and the last coil on the left side of the stick. Then, I rotate my hairstick from horizontal to vertical position, carefully scraping the pointy end along my scalp to make sure the stick is set in properly. This whole affair takes me about 20 seconds to do and stays in REALLY well, and is secure and comfortable enough that I can even sleep in it. If your stick is longer than 6.5"/17cm, you will probably end up poking your head with it as it is just too long. Thank you for this video! Your hair and explanations are really good! If anyone is curious about how I twist my hair, I can make a video or something, I know text explanations are sometimes tricky. My hair is really thick and if I just try to stick a hair stick in after I make a bun it will just fall out. My way is suuuuper secure. It's kind of like your second example but I use the stick to make the twist. Good luck!

moosewhale: I use my hairsticks to curl my hair :D But since I've cut my hair, it's too short to use them.

Emily Campos: Very helpful!

Reverie: I’m a complete beginner, but time I try it, the ends of my hair poke put everywhere. How do i pin these down?

Galagor Gage: Just tried it with a pencil it works. Thanks for the tutorial

Samdamaam Spangler: I like that you did this video and hope that you do more videos with hair sticks.

Akshara: 1:50 for those who wanna get to hairstyling

jagruti chaudhari: I use this stick daily to tie my long hairs. Feels much better than clips.

Ritu Shukla: Beautiful

Megan van Zyl: Where do you find those hair sticks? Loving the hair dos and want to get some good sticks, these are the best ones by far

Sitka :0: My hair is really slippery and I just can’t get it to stay up for more than 30 min in a stick, even my friends who are pretty efficient in hair stick styles can’t figure anything out! I really love them though and I think they are pretty, so any tips are appreciated

pnut91red: Wow great video... Thanks so much!

veer9: the only technique that works for me is the french twist. My hair is probably too fine, short and smooth for the other techniques.

cancer kid: thanks this was super helpful

Jasmine Lidia: I love that beautiful pink blouse you are wearing!!!

Creative Cheers of Fashion Laura Flohr: Haha just one day after your video I posted my video hairstyles with a pencil! I didnt know your channel yet. So many hairstyles to do with sticks. Yours were totally diffrent from mine. Nice to meet you!!

wet tissues: Can please do a video on different types of braids

Maci Jean: myhair is shorter and i got some of these.. i cant wait for it to grow out!

Orange Peel: Bro this is the best tutorial ever (apart from the braid one cos i jus cant do braids cos im jus dumb) :D

Galia Smite: Tried number 2, paused the video, finished doing it, started the video when you do the release hair thing, try it, hair falls back smoothly- my face in the mirror: :D YAYY

Dakiniwoman: Thanks for your video... I am just learning about using hairsticks...

harlequinsnap: How does anyone French braid their own hair without their arms falling off? Or do I just have too much, too coarse hair?

jenny4444js: Lizzie McGuire - Beauty Beacons of Fiction! Please! Xx

yukiyucie: Wow very good video!

Enilereb 01: Do you know of any shop in the Netherlands where you can get hair sticks? I'd rather not order online from China if I can get them here somewhere :)

greed fox: bringing these to male fashion with forged steel and damascus titanium ... fite me. also, "put the stick in my bun" ... lol, I'm immature AF... >:c

Miriam Mile: Me with VERY thick curly hair: ️️

Leoanny Bueno: I love hairsticks. I have a collection Is the only thing that can handle with my curly hair .Because of it I need hairsticks larger than normal .Congrats and thanks

MrsBrit1: That is a lazy wrap bun, not the nautilus. The nautilus has a twisted start (the "talk to the hand" motion), which is what makes it able to be held on its own for some hair types. My hair will stay for about 3 seconds with a nautilus sans stick, but a LWB will not stay at all. There is no way for it to hold itself. So they're similar, but not the same bun!

chloe h: thank you queen

LittleMermaid: I think that hair sticks break the hair when you push them into the bun

Luutâs Λούτας Лу́тос लूतस 野人 لوتَس: THANK YOU

Alyssa June: I have tried so many times and I cannot for the life of me get this down

Karla Mixcoatl: Muy hair will not stay quiet with only those sticks, it's super rebel hehehe but you look so cute. Love

R. Darlene Durfey: So cool

Arcane Arcanine: I love the sticks, where did you get them?

AndieLovesWolves: I used to make hair ties with plants lol I felt bad people would use leather and metal it’s just interesting how hair accessories are a thing to use cuz we are creatures too and animal don’t care about styling their fur like we do

Ghrairi ons:

Lannwit: 4:40 I have too long hair for this :(

Logan Korvo: don't mind me, I'm just crying in barely shoulder length hair

khushi khushi: nice ....supercool

الفراولة الحمراء: :-) :-) :-)

amani alm: she has such a beautiful side profile

RoseStorms: You lost me at the bun part

MissDiia: ❤❤

Amsodoneworking now: I'm in my late sixties with hair past my backside I've always had long hair, I worship in an international known uniformed church known for brass bands, social care, homelessness and charity, I play in the band etc I have tried so so many ways to hold hair in place from hundreds of hair line to double combs, but I always go back to these hair sticks, if your not wanting to spend lots on trying them out but some cheap ones on eBay I own them ranging in price from cheap to I don't want to admit too

Miranda Durán: Thak youuuuu!! So prretty.

iLeonu_e: Cool

KOISHI: My hair is thick so its quite hard.....

Wanda Pease: Nubbin, the little wrapped part would be a “nubbin”

cu2524: I like your bangs.

Holly Skiba: Which brand are these? I cannot clearly hear what you say....

Rose-Angelie DePond: I was in pain just from watching this

Janet Newbill: Thats cute

ayatori la: Japanese name is "kanzashi".
