Hey guys welcome back to my channel or welcome if you are new here, i hope everyone's having a great day today, but if not, hopefully we can change that by the end of this video. If you have been around for the past year or so or maybe you're a newer viewer and you've just been catching up with my older content, you probably already know what my all-time favorite, shampoo and conditioner sets are at least two out of the four. If not all four, because, let's be honest, i do not shut up about them. I rave about these constantly because i love them all, but what you may not know is how i would actually rank these sets from least favorite to most favorite sure. We'Ll say that - and this is easily one of my most commonly asked questions hey out of all the sets you rave about which one is your actual favorite. Are there certain ones that are better for certain hair types than others? So i thought we could finally break that down in this video. Today we are going to be doing a little comparison and ranking of my four favorite shampoo and conditioner sets, which are pureology strength, cure, amika, the cure, redken, aesthetic, bonding, concentrate and olaplex. So in this video we will compare ingredients ph levels, because i did look up the ph levels and if they weren't available contact the brands directly. You know i went there for you, we'll also talk about formulas, and i will give you guys my thoughts on which ones may perform better for certain hair types than others. So if you have been dying to know what my all-time favorite, shampoo and conditioner set is, or which one out of these four is going to be the best for you, you've come to the right spot. We'Re gon na jump right into that, but before we jump into it, please don't forget to give this video a thumbs up subscribe to my channel. If you haven't already click on that notification, bell and drop, a comment below letting me know what your current favorite, shampoo and conditioner set is. Thank you so much for doing all those things. It really really does help to support me with youtube algorithm. So i appreciate you, oh so much instagram and tech talk. Candles are right here. You should definitely come follow me on both of those platforms and, if you need anything from me at all, like lightroom preset filters for editing your instagram photos, spf merch, which is available discount codes, links time, stamps anything like that. Everything. As always, it's listed in my description box below all right, let's jump into it all right in fourth place and technically also third place. We actually have a tie. I know i know it's a little bit annoying. Please don't be mad at me, but i tried so hard to force rank. These sets into a third place and a fourth place, and every time that i did, i switched them, and then i switched them back and then i switched them again because i feel like there's just not a clear cut winner here for several different reasons. So, of course, i'm going to explain my thoughts on that when we dive into details - and i will help you to figure out which of these sets is going to be the best fit for you, because there's pros and cons to both okay, the first of those Two sets is the red: can acidic bonding, concentrate shampoo and conditioner. This may be a little bit surprising to some of you, because this is a set that i honestly haven't shut up about since early spring. I'Ve talked about it so many times on my channel at this point, because this truly saved my hair. At a time where i felt like nothing else was working for me anymore, we'll talk about it in a second, but keep in mind that these are all my favorite, shampoo and conditioner sets and last place doesn't mean it's bad or that i wouldn't recommend it. It just means that out of everything, if i'm forced to choose a favorite, this one is not my number one favorite, but it still is amazing. I mean look at the dent i put in this. That says a lot for me, because i have so so many shampoo and conditioner sets if something is dented like that, it means it's well loved. Let'S start off by talking about the ingredient highlights in this set, so there's really one ingredient in particular that redken has kind of made the star of the show. If you will it's on the front of both of these labels and that ingredient is citric acid, that may sound a little bit strange if you're not super familiar with hair care. But the reason why that is highlighted is because citric acid is going to help to lower the ph of these formulas using low, ph or ph balanced hair care is incredibly important for healthy hair. That'S also something that i haven't shut up about in a minute on my channel, but i'm not going to dive into a ton of detail here, because it's a really complex topic - and i already have an entire video talking - all about that - that i will list below. If you would like to know more so citric acid really is an ingredient that deserves to be highlighted, and on top of that, there's actually also one more acid in the shampoo, which is salicylic acid. So the combination of those two acids is not only going to help to lower the ph of the formula it's going to help to maintain healthy, ph levels on your scalp. So if you deal with itchiness, that could be really helpful and on top of that they can help to gently exfoliate as well. So if you have flakes product, buildup acids like that in a shampoo can be really beneficial and then, aside from the acids, there's a few nice strengthening ingredients in this set, including modified silicones like different forms of ammo, dimethicone and quaternary ammonium compounds like bentrymonium chloride. So again, that is kind of a complex topic, not something i'm going to spend a lot of time on here. In short, they help to strengthen the hair, but if you want to know more about that i'll list, a video on bond repair where i talk about that below as well and then as far as any other conditioning ingredients in this set, that can be beneficial for The hair there's nothing that i feel i need to highlight in particular. Nothing, that's incredibly noteworthy by itself, because the rest of the emollients that will condition and protect the hair are pretty much things like silicones very standard ingredients that you'll find in any hair care set. So that's why i feel like there's, really nothing more to dive into there, and that is pretty much it as far as ingredients goes. Okay now for ph levels. So this is something that was not readily available on redken's website. So i did have to reach out to the brand, and what they told me is that the ph level of the shampoo is between 5.3 and 5.9, and the ph level of the conditioner is between three and four i do have to say. I was a little bit thrown to see that the ph of the shampoo could be as high as 5.9, because the ideal ph level for shampoo and conditioner is 5.5 or lower. That'S again, something that i touch on in that video all about ph, balanced, hair care. So that kind of threw me for a loop, given the fact that that's what this set is supposed to be all about. The purpose of this set is that it's supposed to be ph balanced, so, of course, 5.3 to 5.5 would be amazing, but when we're getting as high as 5.9, that is too high, that's where we can start to run into some issues. So, of course, i'm not a chemist, i don't have a good understanding of what could cause this set to be between 5.3 and 5.5 or above 5.5, all the way up to 5.9. So i really wish that i had more insight to provide there and i did actually ask the brand those follow-up questions, hoping that i could have some sort of answer for you guys, but unfortunately i didn't hear back from them. So that's really all that. I know if any of you guys majored in chemistry or maybe you work in the chemistry field. Let us know in the comments below, if you know more details about that. I feel like that is just past my level of expertise, because again i'm not a chemist. So let us know in the comments below maybe we can get to the bottom of it, but i guess the best we can hope for is that it truly is on that lower end below 5.5. However, i have to say the conditioner having a ph value between three and four is the lowest i've seen out of any hair care products, so at least that kind of backs up the claims of the products and again it's not like 5.9 - is the highest i've Ever seen, but given what this set is all about, it did throw me for a little bit of a loop but love the ph range of the conditioner. That'S pretty impressive! All right! Let'S take a look at the formulas of these products now, so i absolutely love both. The shampoo, specifically, i feel, is one of the latheriest shampoos i've ever used. It really really gets worked up to a nice foam which makes it so easy to spread throughout the hair and make sure that you're not missing any areas so that you can get a really nice proper cleanse, which, if you're like me, and only wash once a Week is desperately needed so every time that i use this set, my hair is perfectly cleansed and it lasts a really long time too, where i feel like it doesn't start to get greasy quickly. I mean i feel like i can go a good four to five days without my hair, looking noticeably greasy, which is also something that's very impressive. So i really like that. I never feel stripped when i use it and the conditioner is great too. I feel like it's the perfect kind of formula for me personally, because it's thick and creamy and feels so so nice and soft and smooth, but it's also not so heavy that it's going to end up weighing down my hair. So i feel like this is just a really good kind of universal set. That would work for a lot of different hair types and overall, i would say i just love the way that my hair looks and feels after using this, i have great volume. My hair looks very soft and shiny and smooth it's just awesome all around and is why it's one of my top four all-time favorites all right to wrap up. Let'S talk about who this set is going to work the best for so the reason why i say that this saved my hair at a time when i felt like nothing else would is because i used this when i was dealing with really bad protein buildup. My hair basically looked and felt like straw and i was experiencing a lot of breakage. It was honestly traumatizing and i felt like everything that i tried just didn't, fix the problem or made the problem worse. So it wasn't until i started using this set, which is completely protein free that i felt like my hair was revived again. So if you have protein sensitive hair, maybe you have low porosity. This could be an incredible option for you and then kind of in that same vein. Even if you don't feel like you have low porosity protein sensitive hair permanently, but you're starting to see signs of protein, buildup or you're wondering if that's what's going on introducing something like this kind of like a reset can be really helpful. Because then, you can see how your hair responds to eliminating proteins. Is it brought back to life if so using? Something like this could be really beneficial for you for the time being, so i will say that i do not use this set exclusively anymore because as a blonde, who gets their hair bleached and has a lot of damage from other factors like heat and uv exposure And everything well not really uv exposure. Let'S be real, i'm never out in the sun. You guys know that, but as a blonde with damage, i do definitely benefit from added proteins and products proteins help to strengthen the hair. So i like to alternate this set with my other sets that do have added proteins or, if you would just like to use this, make sure that you're getting added proteins and other products like your hair, masks and leave-ins and other things like that. And the second set that is tied for third slash fourth place is olaplex four and five shampoo and conditioner. It'S actually been a minute since i've used this set. I'Ve just been trying out a lot of other things, but this was my go-to for a solid couple years: okay, let's talk ingredient highlight starting off with strengthening ingredients so similar to the redken set. These also have quaternary ammonium compounds and ammo dimethicone. This is not a protein free set, though so it does have one added protein, which is hydrolyzed vegetable protein, but in saying that that also doesn't mean that this is like a protein. Heavy shampoo and conditioner, like a lot of people, seem to think that it is because there's no other protein based ingredients. Aside from that, however, all of that aside, the real highlight here when it comes to strengthening ingredients is, of course olaplex's patented bond building ingredient, which i believe is called something like besaminopropyl diglycol dimeliate, that's a mouthful. So that's the ingredient that olaplex created to help to rebuild broken hair bonds, which is going to help to temporarily strengthen the hair and is definitely something that is unique about this set compared to others, of course, because they created it and it's patented. So you literally won't find it anywhere else. Conditioning ingredients here is where we step it up a notch, because, unlike redken, which just has your standard, run-of-the-mill emollients and silicones, there are so many incredible ingredients here. I have them all listed here. There was no way i could memorize them, so i'm just going to list off some keep in mind. This is not everything these also have panthenol sunflower, seed, oil, green tea, oil, argan oil, apricot oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, cranberry oil, hyaluronic acid, plus, more so you're. Really getting your bang for your buck here, because there's so many incredible ingredients, aside from those strengthening ingredients to help to replenish the hair condition, detangle, add softness, add shine. You guys get it where this lets me down. A little bit is in the ph department, specifically for the shampoo, so the ph of the shampoo is between 6 and 6.5. The ph of the conditioner is between four and five, so this is ph balanced. This, unfortunately, is not so obviously i really wish the ph level of the shampoo was lower, but something that i've said before that i still think is true is that the ph level is not the only thing that matters. I know that i stress it a lot because it is very important, but at the same time, there's other things to consider like the rest of the ingredients, the formula how your hair looks and feels after using it ph, isn't the only thing. So, even though i wish it was lower, this truly has one of the most impressive ingredients lists that i've ever seen out of any shampoo and conditioner. It blows redken out of the water to be honest, but where redken wins is the lower ph values and also the fact that that is a protein free option for anyone that needs it. I also am a huge fan of both of these formulas. I would say that i do prefer them to redken, because they're just a little bit more dense, but a lot of the things that i was saying about. The redken set also hold true here. The shampoo gets incredibly lathery cleans the scalp really well. I never have issues with my scalp feeling stripped or irritated, and i get a really nice proper cleanse with it. This conditioner is definitely my favorite, it's just so nice and creamy thicker than redken, but again still isn't something that i feel weighs down my hair. So this also works wonders on my hair and i love the way that my hair looked after using it, even though again it's been a minute, so the ola plaque, shampoo and conditioner is going to work the best for you if you have high porosity damaged hair. If similar to what i said about red can you're alternating back and forth, at least with the shampoo and a different shampoo that has a lower ph value, another option could be to just forgo the shampoo. All together opt for the conditioner, since this is ph balanced and then you could just use a different shampoo from another brand, because i wouldn't recommend using this shampoo exclusively for an extended period of time, but again great ingredients in this set. It'S one that i have really enjoyed and while i will probably not continue using the shampoo, because i have such great options with good ingredients at rph balance, the conditioner is absolutely something that i will continue to use and love all right. So hopefully now you guys can see why i was so torn between those two and why it was so hard for me to pick between them. They really do serve different benefits and will do different things for your hair, depending on what you have going on and what your hair type is. So that's third and fourth place. Let'S move on to spot number two. This was so hard for me to do. To put this in second place and not first, and i honestly was so close to just making first and second a tie as well, but i thought everyone would be very annoyed of me if i did that. So i made myself choose and i did put my long time - obsession the love of my life. Pureology strength cure in second place, even though i would love to just have them tied anyway. I made myself so second place, pureology strength here, let's talk ingredients, so the shampoo also has salicylic acid and citric acid like redken, which is great, and the set has a lot of the same, strengthening ingredients that we've already talked about. Like quaternary ammonium compounds, ammo dimethicone, hydrolyzed vegetable protein and then there's a couple more here that you won't find in other sets, including arginine, which is an amino acid and astaxanthin, which is an antioxidant and then conditioning. Ingredients that stand out to me in this set include olive oil, camolina oil, linseed oil and vitamin e, so definitely not as stacked as olaplex, but where this set wins over olaplex is the ph levels of each product. So the ph of the shampoo is 5.3 and the ph of the conditioner is 4.5. This shampoo is definitely very different from redken olaplex, because it's really runny and liquidy, and you really want to make sure that you're using the proper emulsification technique with this. In order to get the best results, if you don't know what that technique is i'm going to list a video below where i show you guys a bunch of different shampoo hacks, including that one so that you can really see how to do that properly? But when i do that and do my good old double shampoo, this really really helps my hair to just stay looking clean for a super long time. I would say also get a good four to five days after this, where my hair is just not even looking slightly dirty. I'M also obsessed with this conditioner, it's perfectly creamy. It feels incredibly soft. It really helps to detangle my hair well, which is difficult to do because i have such tangly hair and whenever i use this set, i do feel like my hair. Just looks extra polished. If that makes sense like everything is just sealed right and it looks perfectly conditioned, i have great volume. I just can't say enough good things about the wonders that pureology strength cure has worked and continues to work on my hair. I love it so much so curology strength care is really one of those sets that i think can benefit so many different hair types. It'S not like you have to have one specific hair type to use it or that a certain hair type needs to avoid it. I'Ve gotten some questions on that. Like do, you have to have bleached hair in order to use it not at all. This can work for truly anybody, because the formulas are universal, the ph levels are right and the ingredients are really nice and not polarizing. Because, again, this isn't protein heavy there's only one protein based ingredient, so unless you're in a dire situation in the protein overload department, this really is going to be something that benefits so many different people and honestly, everyone that i feel i've recommended this to is like Yeah, i am obsessed with it too, so i feel like you can't go wrong with pure algae strength cure. I do personally feel that this is my favorite as far as the results that i get with my hair, but strictly based on some of the things we're going to talk about with first place. I feel like that. One deserves first place, which will be obvious in a second but i'm dang like i said. I really wanted it to be a tie, because i have used this and loved this for years. It'S so good and the first place winner is the newly reformulated amica. The cure, shampoo and conditioner - i don't know why i feel, like i downplayed this for the longest time after i tried the new formula, i really liked it, but i feel, like i didn't, realize how truly impressive it was until i started to really dig into things Like ingredients and ph levels, and then i was like yeah - this deserves first place. So as far as strengthening ingredients here, we also have quaternary ammonium compounds and one hydrolyzed protein, which is hydrolyzed quinoa, but this set has something that none of the other sets have, which is called beast pca dimethicone. That is also a modified silicone that is incredibly beneficial for the hair. It helps to strengthen and protect, as well as condition and the conditioning ingredients in this set are so so nice there's so many. So i'm not gon na list off every single one, but some of the ones that really stood out to me include sea buckthorn oil, boris seed oil, avocado oil mango butter, shea butter, so so many rich, nourishing just delicious plant-based ingredients and butters. That i feel makes this set apart and kind of a step above pure algae strength, care, and the ph levels of this set are amazing. When i got the email from the brand confirming, i was like what i just wasn't expecting that, like i said so, the shampoo has a ph range of 4.75 to 5.25 and the conditioner has a range from 4 to 4.75. Come on come on so good, but the one thing that i feel makes this a little bit less universal than other sets is the formula of the shampoo. It'S definitely quite a bit creamier than these other shampoos, and because of that, this by itself is not something that leaves my hair looking clean for as long, i can still get a good, i would say like three days, but then at that point i do definitely Feel like i need dry shampoo, whereas the others like i said i can go four to five days and not feel like. I have that problem. So if you have incredibly greasy hair, you probably will not like this, but if you have a really dry scalp, i think you'll be obsessed with it. The conditioner is delicious, though i would say it's kind of similar to olaplex, where it's very dense and rich and creamy, and oh, my gosh feels so so nice and makes my hair look amazing as well. So i also think that this is a set that could be beneficial for so many different hair types, especially if you have damaged hair, but is it quite as universal as something like pure algae strength cure? I personally don't think so really, specifically because of the shampoo. So we not only have the potential issue if you have a very oily scalp, but also, if you have really fine thin hair, then this shampoo formula may just weigh down your hair a little bit and not work the best for you in that scenario either. So you could just use the conditioner here as well. Use a different shampoo one that is lighter weight is more clear and not so creamy and opaque, but otherwise i think it's an incredible set and truly was so pleasantly surprised and impressed with the ingredients and the ph levels. All right, you guys, we have made it to the end of this video. I really hope that you found this helpful and that you now feel like you know, which of these sets is going to work. The best for your hair you'll have to let me know in the comments below. Are you currently using any of these? Do you really love it? Are you going to stick with it or do you feel like you want to switch after watching this video, or are you going to try one of these for the first time after watching this, and, if so, which one? Of course, you have to let me know, as always, all the products will be listed in my description box below and if you enjoyed this, please don't forget to give it a thumbs up, subscribe click on that notification ball and send my channel to a friend. Thank you so much for doing all of those things truly helps me out. Thank you so so much stay tuned for my next video, because that will be up in a few days, but until then i hope you have a great few days. You

Grazina Siale: I’m a cosmetics chemist. The pH of any given product can drift over a shelf life. When formulating skin/hair products, every ingredient added needs to fit into that drift, which is +/-10% and that could be why the Redken product has a higher pH range. This is particularly important for preservatives and actives which have to fit into that drift range.

jakebeauchamp3com: That olaplex shampoo has to be the most concentrated shampoo I have ever used! I have never had a shampoo lather the way it does with such a small amount and it’s still very gentle. Olaplex shampoo and conditioner is definitely one of the best I’ve ever used.

OLAPLEX: Thank you for your honest review, Abbey! ♥️

Bianca Manriquez: I love the purology shampoo and conditioner. I started watching your channel in February of this year after I chopped off about 8 inches off my hair. I spent about $300 buying products you recommend and you have saved my hair sooo much. I’m always looking forward to new recommendations from you. My hair has grown about 4 inches since February all thanks to you! My hairstylist was so amazed at my growth. Thank you sooo much for these videos

Jennifer McCord Codispot: Great video! Started using the Pureology set based on your recommendation alternated with the Bondi Boost HG set and my hair has never been healthier. I love Amika styling products but because my hair is fine and thin, I think I'll stick with the Pureology over the Amika Kure. Thanks for such a thorough review

Debra: Abbey, thanks so much for being the hair care guru. Your advice for fine hair has been a game changer. I have changed a few products I've been using and have really seen some great results. I'm in Sydney, Australia, so frizz city, but I'm taming my mane one product at a time. Thank you again, Cheers Debra

Haley Moon: My daughter has extremely light blonde hair and since birth it’s been unmanageable (not exaggerating, it literally turns into dread locks over night lol) I’ve tried everything with her hair. Silicone free, coconut oil , high protein no protein etc and the Annika products along with the olaplex leave in have finally made her hair soooo healthy and beautiful! It’s finally been able to grow and her hair has the most wonderful shine and texture.

Josie Spreitzer: I’m a cosmetologist. pH balanced = 7.5. So if the shampoo is pH = 6. And the conditioner pH = 4, neither are pH balanced. But, the lower the pH, the smoother you hair will feel, as a lower pH = more acidic and closes the hair’s cuticle so it feels smoother.

Holly K: Hi Abbey! I have fine thin color treated hair and agree with you that my hair feels cleaner for longer with the Purology SC than the Amika Kure. I really liked Amika but after sweating and exercise my hair felt weighed down faster with it. The Purology is amazing! Ahh I’m off to watch your shampoo hacks next! I want to try the new Alterna Bond products (listed on Sephora & Ulta not available yet) next!

Amber Gehring: I can't tell you how helpful this was to me, I watched id probably 4-5×. I ended up with pureology and amika conditioner! Can't wait till they get here! Thanks for all your help! I'm a bleach blonde myself, our hair looks almost exactly the same so your words mean so much to me!! Thank you a thousand times!!

Maureen Jennifer: I love a good ranking video with explanations! I've been using the Olaplex shampoo & conditioner for a long time (aside from some samples and a period of attempting to follow the cgm or at least a modified cgm). But I will probably switch to the amika the kure set when I'm out. I got a sample of them a sephora order and was shocked by how well my hair turned out even though I didn't have time that day to use a deep conditioner/treatment/mask. I know I can't go without the latter for long, but now maybe I'll get even better results! I've suspected for a bit that the olaplex shampoo wasn't doing much for me anymore, though I love the rest of the olaplex products I've tried (all but 0 and the new purple shampoo).

legallyblonde88158: Pureology hydrate is my current favorite shampoo and conditioner! Although I may need to try the hydrate sheer or the strength cure, I still love the hydrate but I feel like sometimes it can be a little heavy, but it makes my color look so vibrant, gets rid of the frizz and makes it look like I came out of the salon.

April Woodworth: I just bought the redken travel set on ultas website I’m so excited to try it! I always wondered why my hair wasn’t as smooth as I wanted it to be, I’m realizing it might’ve been protein build up. So looking forward to trying these!

Monique Jeanlouis: I bought the pureology on sale at Ulta , haven’t tried it yet , they sent me the redken 3 piece set samples for free when you spend $40 . I liked the redken it made my hair so soft . I use the whole olaplex set so it’s hard to pick between the redken bonding

Lara: After a full bleach and turning blonde, my hairdresser used olaplex 1 & 2, so they recommended I use the shampoo, conditioner, mask and leave-in conditioner afterwards since it would help my hair the most. I don't think it is the best brand out there, but the bottles are huge and you only need such a tiny bit, so I still have SO much left even after half a year. I will definitely use it until it is done, but perhaps after I will try something else

Bailley Mcfay: Amika has become one of my fave brands by far!! They have soooo many good products!

Miss Riggy: You’ve helped me so much Abbey! My hair was breaking, dry, and falling out. I switched to the Purology set and my hair now is amazing. It took a solid month, i shampoo twice a week usually. I regularly damage my hair in my suana but now I’m using a leave-in mask or conditioner in my hair before I enter it too. Love your channel!❤️

Adrienne Hood: Love all the info you manage to cram into your videos! I’d love to hear about the scents of these items, even just a rough description, and maybe on a scale of 1-10 how intense the smell is or if it lingers. Lots of people are scent-sensitive, including myself, and it’s hard to buy certain things like hair care products online if you’re trying to stay out of stores or you just don’t have one local. I’d also LOVE to see a review on the full Amika The Kure line. Thank you!!

Matthew Greige: I ascites love your videos. I happened across them a few weeks ago. I've grown out my hair the last two years and have really damaged split ends. Based off of your past videos I'm actually now using olaplex No. 3 and a few other products like a rince. Lots of improvement. Thanks, Mel making great content!

Holly May: I am so excited to come across this comparison! I have very heavy hair and my scalp gets oily very quickly, but I have breakage and split ends. I already use preventative measures like a satin scarf and pillow, but wanted to switch from redden extreme because it just feels like it may be too heavy for my hair. These are exactly the shampoos I’ve been researching as an alternative, and it definitely helped make my decision easier!!

Molly Huber: In addition to what others said about causes of a pH range, I would suggest avoiding saying that something is "pH balanced" versus not. Many other ingredients can affect the pH, so while some companies may try to "pH balance", that may or may not mean that the product is the optimum pH for haircare. Overall, I really appreciate how you tackle scientific concepts despite not having a degree in a related field, and I'd say you can explain things better than some chemistry PhD students I know

Scarlett B: First wash with my amika the cure set bought on your recommendation and seriously WOW. I have used EVERYTHING - olaplex, Redken, Kerastase, pureology, Davines, Moroccan oil and I find them all “nice but not amazing” but this seriously made my hair feel like silk. Can’t believe it. Love the smell too and the conditioner is like a luxury thick yogurt. I realise it’s crazy to talk like this about haircare Lol but that’s why we all love these hair videos!

Fiona Darragh: Hi Abbey ❤, Hope you're keeping well ❤! I purchased the Redken 3 step system based on your recommendations. As I am prone to a lot of hair breakage. I just knew Pureology would be mentioned in this video ! But I am surprised you didn't put it in first place because you have raved about it so many times. Loved this video ❤!

OK TERI: I have been switching back and forth between pureology strength cure and Matrix total effects smoothing. Love them both.

Abby: Amazing video Abbey!! Your content is so helpful and I love watching your videos I recently went blonde and was wondering if you would be willing to share your favorite purple shampoos? I saw your pureology purple shampoo review as well as the fanola (?) review but would love to hear any updates on your favs!! Thanks again for the vid love you

smedgirl1: Thank you...this was a needed video. I've already purchased the Kure deep conditioner for a weekly deep conditioning and it's fantastic. Now I am going to buy the shampoo and conditioner. I do have dry coarse hair so this seems to be perfect. I always had luscious beautiful virgin hair but as I aged and am now coloring grey for years, the texture changed dramatically. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. My hair doesn't get greasy if I don't wash it, just more and more dry. Washing it and adding moisture through my conditioner gives it some life back. Adds bounce and shine.

Lemon Lime: I’m going to have to try this version of Pureology. I’ve tried 3 of their other formulas and they made my hair so dry and frizzy. I have the Redken set and like that. Now I’m excited to try these others that you rate even higher than the Redken!

Keert M: I purchased the redken shampoo after watching your video. I loooove the scent, it's not overpowering and it smells like citrusy fruits. Leaves my hair amazing. And it's less expensive than the Kevin Murphy shampoos I was using. I think I'm gonna try the pureology next time, if u consider it better. But I was wondering if it's better to stick to one shampoo for a few years or is it bad to change everytime?

Noemi Drescher: The pH of the scalp is naturally around 5.5. In order for the shampoo to remove sebum, the pH must be the same or higher (max 6 for dailyuse). Hair likes a lower pH of 4 - 2.5! Therefore, it is important that the shampoo has a pH around 5-6 and then we apply the conditioner with a lower pH along the length. If the shampoo has a pH of, for example pH 3-4, it will not wash the skin and will cause irritation. I don't know if I explained clearly in English Greetings from Poland ♥ ️

Erin Lee: I'm going to try The Kure after this video! Thank you for the thorough reviews. :) (Also I just saw Sephora has the Pureology Hydrate S&C 30% off for today only, spread the word!)

Даниэлла Шот: I’ve been using olaplex 4,5,6 for a few months now and my completely ruined hair started to feel and look like no one has ever burned it off my head! I love your videos, they’re super helpful always

Dawn Kulan: Can’t wait to see what you have to say about the new Olaplex toner shampoo that was just released! I’m getting it. I’m sooo excited! I’m all about Olaplex, now I don’t have to mix it with Kevin Murphy.

Liz Barrand: I wasn’t a fan of the Olaplex shampoo & conditioner (not at that price) but I love the #3. I got the Pureology Strength Cure on your recommendation & it’s been the first shampoo/conditioner that’s worked well for me (my hair isn’t damaged, really, but I do color it 2-3x a year to cover grays. I’m just getting older - 48 - and it’s gotten blah. I have pretty normal, healthy, fine to medium but lots of it, not oily, not dry, low porosity hair. This has made for a nightmare combo to find anything that works for me since everything is geared towards oily or dry or fine/thin/volume and I don’t need any of those things, in particular). I’m very curious to try the Amika just because it’s cheaper but, based on this video, I think I might just stick with Pureology. Thank you so much for all your super helpful videos!! I actually followed your exact hair routine a few times and it is not exactly what I need but I was able to figure out what works and what didn’t and tweak it and I think I’ve got a pretty good system going now ❤️

Jossy L.: I always go back to Olaplex, it's gentle on my scalp and makes my hair so soft, I tried a natural one from Maui and I was just trying to save money and it brought my dandruff back, I've tried so many, hopefully I could find an affordable one with the same ingredients.

Trish: So I use the redken shampoo right now that you recommended before and I like to alternate every once in a while so I think I'm gonna try the pureology. I really like the redken shampoo though because I feel like I can go longer without having to use dry shampoo. My hair always feels so clean from using it too. I also use olaplex right now which has really saved my hair when I had to strip out red coloring out of it and it felt so thin and dry I cried. I literally thought all of my hair was going to fall out because of the breakage. I will never dye my hair red again or any color that has to be stripped out.

Shelby: Shampoos tend to have a higher ph to open up the hair and really cleanse it well and then you go in with a more acidic conditioner and seal everything in. Most of the time you will not find a super acidic shampoo. But if you want to check one out the fanola fiber fix shampoo is very acidic I think it’s a 3-4 ph that’s the most acidic set I’ve ever found

JennSkywalker: I bought the Amika one because of you and I’m obsessed. I have dry scalp & type 2 hair. Smells sooooo good. I really wanted to buy pureology and at some point, I’ll end up trying it because I decided to watch this video! I thought before purology wouldn’t be a good fit for me because I didn’t have color treated hair. Thanks for info Abbey!

Julie Nathe: I have the Redken because of your recommendation. I have some others I need to get through, but I am definitely interested in Pureology and Amika, which has a better price point.

Francesca Reese: I appreciate all the videos I've watched from you about these different products for those of us that have bleached for ages and my process of going with a lot of blond with dimension over 7 years from a level 4. I have waist length hair and I'm just to the point where Olaplex shampoo and condition are just not at all doing me any good AT ALL. I get dread like tangles and have reduced the amount of times I wash my hair (major chore) to every 5 to 6 days. I use dry shampoo in between on my scalp. I'm torn now on whether to go with one of the two Redkens or the Amika.... However, appreciate you research and thoughts on the product!!!! Hoping for a little bit of more health to my hair soon!

Valerie Marie: I just purchased and began using Amika The Kure based on your rec. I am thoroughly impressed. I have used Biolage conditioning balm my whole life. It’s the only conditioner that helps me get through the knots in my thick, wavy hair. I used the Amika shampoo and conditioner thinking that the conditioner wouldn’t be enough for me. Well, I was very pleasantly surprised! Holy hell! Thank you for putting in all of the work and reviewing products for us! I am beyond thrilled with how my hair reacted to Amika! ✨

Cailey Mac: I actually just purchased the travel sized kit of Olaplex to see how I like it! I’ve personally been using Briogeo hair care (which was pretty great)

Sarah McCallum: Olaplex has a brand new N4P Purple Shampoo for blondes would love to hear your take on it! I wish more brands would come out with colour protection shampoos or enhancing shampoos for red heads

Alexis: Not a chemist, but a nursing major who just took chemistry and is taking physiology pH can vary by batch based on how acidic or basic it happens to turn out. This can vary based on ingredient sourcing, the amounts *slightly* changing in each batch, etc. The citric acid, obviously, is acidic, and I’m assuming that they most likely use a set amount of each ingredient and don’t adjust for each batch, meaning that although the ingredients are in the same amounts each time, the pH can vary because the amounts don’t account for small variations that naturally occur in each batch. pH can also change over time when it’s exposed to air and water. TL;DR: citric acid is the main ingredient used to make the pH acidic, and because each batch can vary in pH before the citric acid is added, and the amounts of each ingredient in the “recipe” never changes, the pH may not always be exactly the same. But that’s just my kind of educated guess

Dana Barr: As per one of your videos I just started using Pureology this week. I really like it but find I can’t get all of the conditioner out. It hasn’t been a problem though. Wondering if you’ve ever tried Colleen Rothschild or Renpure and what your thoughts on those are? Loving your channel!

Melissa Robinson: Great video. I was actually recently wondering how you would rank these. I typically alternate Olaplex with Pureology strength cure blond, but recently got Amika the Kure to try in place of Olaplex. I then follow everything with Pureology color fanatic and Redken acidic perfecting concentrate.

Cynthia: Thank you Abbey for another informative and awesome video! Do you have a video about understanding proteins in haircare, symptoms of too much protein and how to care for hair after too much protein? I would love to understand this more. Edit... just saw a video above! THanks again!

spinfan1: I have the Olaplex system and love it. My cousins who is a hairdresser also recommends Olaplex

Aracelie Trejo: Pureology & redken have a high content of isopropyl alcohol in both of the conditioners. Trying to stay away from that because my hair is already dry so when you mentioned them I was like definitely will try Amika

Breeberry: Abbey, please review Olaplex's new purple shampoo!! I love all the work you put into all your videos❤ Have a fantastic day :)

Isabella Imade: I love your channel so much. From your mascara recommendations to hair tips, you've really been a help on this platform. I appreciate your enthusiasm!!

Laura H.: Feedback on a recommendation from this video...Loved your recommendation on Redken. Worked like a charm, I also have fine straight hair. I also shampoo twice. My hair is not color treated. Tried Pureology Strength Cure shampoo and conditioner. Big let down. Oily hair in a few days, I was quite surprised. Controlled comparison between both. I returned the Pureology today. Just wanted to let all know my experience. I'm curious what others experienced with similar hair. You asked for comments, so here you go! What am I missing here?

marilisa peguero: Just bought the olapex completed line except for the purple shampoo. They are really good products. The Kure just got it and haven’t use it but I’m excited to try them out after this review. Thanks

Sherry Peacock: I am surprised Kerastase didnt make your top 4. I would love to see you do a video on more of their products. Thanks and I love your videos!! ♡♡♡

Aqua22: Great video - thank you! Have been using Pureology shampoo with a 5 min mask (Oaui) after your recommendations recently and watching my hair come back to life

Nikki2370: Ooh I'm excited. I actually like that Amika shampoo. This will be the best video ever Edit: yes the best ever. I use the old formula still but I love that set. My hair looks so nice after I use it. Especially over time. I feel like it's been helping my scalp too. My scalp needs love sometimes. And I definitely agree with you, my hair looks gross after a few days

curlygirl: Great videos with excellent explanation! Thanks. A woman that works for Loreal recommended to me the Kerastase Genesis bain nutri- fortifiant for dry weak hair and breakage I would love to hear your opinion on these thanks

Kasey Smith: I signed up for Fab Fit Fun today and was shook when I realized I could try the Amika shampoo and conditioner bundle in this season’s box I’m hype!! Thanks abbey!

kim: thank you for this video!! not mentioned in this video but i am interested by the Redken Extreme length shampoo!! what are your thoughts on it? i have a normal scalp, high porosity bc my hair were white platinum bleached for three years but now they’re brown since june but my natural hair is black! i used to have 2c/3a hair at some parts but also 2b type hair but now it’s mostly 2a/2b bc of the damage bleach caused i currently use fanola nutri care shampoo + mask and the mask is doing so good things to my hair. they are shiny and soft ✨ but i hate the shampoo especially the smell my hair are definitely doing better now that they’re brown but theyre still very much damaged and i heard good things about the redken extreme length so yeah… wanted to know your opinion on it :)

Amanda Vicente: My top 3 picks are: Amika, Olaplex & Ion!! Those are the 3 best shampoos & conditioners that have worked for me . I switched up & depending what’s on sale.

Bonnie Cochran: Hi Abbey! Loved this video ❤️ SHOOK at your #2 choice I’ve been using the pureology strength cure shampoo & conditioner for almost 2 months (I reckoned with the price point because I wash my hair once a week, maybe twice) and I LOVE it! I do shampoo twice though (like you had recommended in an older video) BUT I think adding a detox/clarifying shampoo for the “co-wash”. I know you use the Ouai detox shampoo, but are there others that you would recommend that sort of compare to that one? Xo ❤️

Amy Schmidt: Hi, I'm a chemist. You mentioned that they said the pH ranges from 5.3 to 5.9, so I'm thinking that their specification is pH 5.6 +/- 0.3. This is a wide range so to me it means they have trouble controlling their manufacturing progress. This could have to do with raw materials/ vendors/ etc. A spec like that above allows them to accept batches between pH 5.3 and 5.9 though the target is 5.6. As to why they would formulate above pH 5.5 when the literature shows that pH 5.5 and below is best for maintaining the charge on the hair shaft.

cessiahc: Thank you Abbey! Great review! So glad you mentioned who may benefit from the redkin set especially. All much needed info. When do you need to use conditioner. Since bleaching I only see benefit from masks. How about bumble & bumble invisible oil new ultra rich shampoo? From beginning to end your review was excellent!

Jaclyn Lily: Having a higher pH shampoo is actually a good thing. (cosmetologist/working hairstylist here) Hair resides at a pH of 5-5.5 meaning it needs atleast a 5.5 or higher to swell the cuticle. Your hair strand has scale like coverings on the outside of it that are naturally slimmed down and sealed. If the cuticle isn't slightly opened up, then the benefits and good ingredients in your conditioner won't penetrate the hair strand at all unless severely porous or chemically damaged (when hair is porous or damaged, the cuticle is swollen no matter what). The shampoo will always be higher and the conditioner will always have a lower pH to bring the cuticle back down, seal it, seal in the nutrients and rebalance the pH. If you use a shampoo that's lower than 5 on the pH scale, your conditioners and leave in products will essentially be less or non beneficial.

E T: i tried the amika the kure shampoo after watching this video, i ordered in december 2021 from the amika website and received their new formula. the shampoo smells awful like melted plastic and chlorine or something! i'm curious has anyone else experienced this with the new formula??

Emmers1983: I've tried the Olaplex, Redken Acidic Bonding, and Pureology per you recommendations. I really wish there were fragrance free versions of these products or that they would at least cut the amount of perfume they use in half. The smell of the Olaplex isn't my favorite thing ever, but it's not bad and it's not overpowering. Unfortunately the fragrances of the Redken and the Pureology are both so incredibly strong I doubt I'll be able to finish either of them, which really bums me out. I also suspect that the high amount of perfumes in both lines has caused me to have a mild allergic response whenever I've used one of them, which has never been a typical issue for me with other hair products. Anyway, I've been wanting to try the Amika stuff for a while now, so here's hoping I can tolerate those products better. Fingers crossed! Thanks for another fun video!

Mychelle Crown: The pH has to balance the hair needs and the ingredients themselves, as well as drift. 6-7 is fine for a rinse off surfactant formulation with great ingredients. That acid pH is more essential in the conditioner, which adsorbs to the hair and usually sits longer. I formulate my own conditioner to a 4.8, which leaves my hair so soft and shiny. I formulated a beautiful shampoo for myself for years and it’s near perfect for me, but recently tried the Olaplex, with a similar surfactant system but some gorgeous extras and it’s incredible lather that doesn’t strip. I absolutely love it.

Jean Dobbs: Hi Abbey. I really love your vids and find your info to be truly helpful. I always look to see what your thoughts are on any hair/skin care products before I make the purchase. So this question doesn't exactly pertain to this vid, but I was wondering what your thoughts are on the latest talk about hyaluronic acid for hair. I'm seeing vids on Tiktok of people even applying hyaluronic acid face creams/oils to their hair, and they say it transformed their dry hair into silk. What are your thoughts on using the face creams/oils as a double for a hair treatment as well? Thank you so much for your reviews on everything

Alexandra Pita: Thank you for your fantastic helpful info :) If you are using olaplex conditioner would you still use a leave in condition afterwards? Would you say once would "cancel" the other? Or would you say they complement each other?

Shelby Allison: Hi Abbey! I recently started using a bunch of Kevin Murphy products because my hair stylist recommended it. I started using the repair.me rinse and wash and wanted to see if you had any options on them. Or just the brand in general!

Tara Fotty: I never use the same shampoo and conditioner in sets. My shampoo needs are greatly different from my conditioner needs. The classic greasy scalp vs dry damaged ends saga

Lisa Gardner: I tried the Pureology set a while back after you recommending it and although I liked how it made my hair look and feel, it made my scalp really itchy which I’ve never had before (if anyone has any idea why it might have given me that reaction I’m all ears!) I went back to Olaplex with my tail between my legs I’ll give the Amika set a try next as I like the sound of the low PH levels. Thank you for all the effort you put into your videos Abbey x

Joan Juarez: I am so glad you did this video Abbey. I have Brazilian blow out on my hair so I really have to look for anti sulfates and salts. I use Pureology hydrate, Olaplex shampoo, Moroccan oil smooth and hydrating. Can’t say I am totally in love with any of them. I think I will try the Pureology strengthen now. I also would love to find a clarifying shampoo for Keratin treated hair as I use a lot of products in my hair.

Lindsey Kenemer: Your explanations are really helpful. I just ordered the travel size strength cure set from ulta on sale. I also got the hydrate sheer travel size set to try out too. I can never seem to find just the right set for my hair that doesn’t irritate my scalp.

Rachel Coolman: I own all of these brands thanks to you! This was super helpful. Thank you! I would agree that I love Amika the most so it's awesome to know the science behind why!

Chelsea Burrows: I used olaplex for a long time, I went through 3 full sized bottles of the shampoo and conditioner. I really really tired to make myself like it but unfortunately it just wasn’t it for my hair. I have short, blonde hair and my stands are so fine, I don’t know what it was but olaplex and my hair did not get along. I just switched to Kerastase and I’m not sure that’s helping my hair either. I think I’m going to give Amika a try next!

Bonnie Rogers: You have turned me on to Purology and I have been using it for about a month and love it! I didn’t want to love it as much as I do because of price point lol, but it’s amazing. Haven’t tried any of the others but will be! Thanks for all you do! ❤️

natalie kim: my stylist told me for conditioners it should be 3-4 ph so im really excited to try out the conditioner from redken

Lisa Rhoades: Thank you for this great review! Please address the scents of all these products. It’s a game changer for me. I use Monat (and no it doesn’t make my hair fall out) loved it for years and they actually have a bonding line that just released, however I’m about ready to quit them only because of the scents. Super sensitive to smells. Why do these high end products feel they need to add scents? I feel there is a market for unscented hair care - especially a strong hold hairspray.

Sam Guillen: I had the worst protein build-up and flaky scalp while using Olaplex! my hair was also frizzier than ever. After trying many others I purchased the whole product line of the Redken acidic bonding thanks to you and it changed my life forever!! I have fine-medium straight hair with balayage.

Mandy (Megan.Shines): I did a quick search and I didn't see this already mentioned, but I know from skincare that the lather of a cleanser is related to the pH. That is why your bottom two favorites had higher pH but also better lather. I don't recall the exact reason but I do know that you can't get as strong as a lather or foam from a cleanser that is a lower pH.

Beth Keller: Thank you for a great and informative descriptions on hair care products. Unfortunately, because I have naturally wavy hair, I cannot use products that have sulfates or silicones in it. My hair easily gets frizzy. I would love to see you do a video on products without these two main items. Thanks, again.

Loraine Mcgillivray: Hi Abbey a video on really good haircare with either no fragrance or extremely low level would be really helpful. I have scalp eczema (as well as face to toe lol) and have to be really cautious with fragrance in my products. My shampoo has to be fragrance free, but I can tolerate a bit of fragrance in conditioner (as it's not rubbed into the scalp). If it's highly scented it can cause eczema flares on the perimeter of the face and down my back (rinsing). I have thick, course and wavy/curly hair with highlights, but the vast majority of products targeted at curly/coily hair are highly fragranced for some reason. Most of the fragrance free shampoos are a bit drying - it's a constant struggle. I'm currently using the jessiecurl no added fragrance shampoo (I clarify every few weeks), but I rotate around with conditioner/masks (I often use a mask instead of conditioner). The jessiecurl too shea conditioner works as a leave in and it has a lot of "slip" for detangling, but it's not enough moisture/protein for every wash. The jessiecurl mask is a great moisture mask, but doesn't have protein which my hair needs to be balanced. As I said a struggle lol. I haven't tried any of these due to the fragrance tbh. Best wishes.

Anastasia Sergeeva: for Redken seeing the package smashed like this should mean they need to improve the package. so that the product could be squeezed easier than that.

Nicole Conat: I just ordered a sample set of Olaplex that I’m excited to try!

Sarah O’Hara: I want the ultimate shampoo and conditioner combo of these sets! Let’s mix and match

Lisa Ray: EUFORA 100%! It’s aloe Vera based as opposed to water based which almost all shampoo & conditioners are. Very very expensive but worth every penny. I’ve used it for 17 years!!

Marissa Bracley: Was just looking for a new shampoo to purchase! I love the olaplex shampoo and conditioner but I think I’m going to give pureology a try!! Have you ever tried Davines products? I would love a review on that!

Elisa Sauerland: My favorite set is from Evolvh. I have wavy to curly, fine, low porosity, medium density hair. It gets weighted down soooo easily.. So this formulas by Evolvh are silicone free and without heavy ingredients. These products really don't build up on my hair as fast as some others and they are also pH balanced. Their leave ins also have UV protection. ♥️♥️♥️ (I know, silicone aren't bad but because my hair is so fine I try to avoid them. I actually have some products with silicones in it but not every product with silicones does work for me.) Ps: Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language. Love you Abbey♥️

Nina Austin: The pH is higher in Olaplex No.4 as this product takes care of all scalp issues including dandruff- Dandruff Shampoos always have a slightly higher pH

legallyblonde71: I I’m hardly allergic to anything and I am so allergic to Pieology strength cure! Something in their products causes my scalp to itch horribly. I can use the purple shampoo and conditioners but that is it.I love your videos but I feel like your hair is so unusual in that it is so Tangly and fine. I would love for you to try different products on different types of hair. For example my hair is so dry and porous I could put everything you put on your hair in a week and you would never be able to tell. Then there are others that have hardly any hair I need to wash their hair every day because it has oily or something

Joshika Lata: I just bought olaplex shampoo and conditioner a weeks ago and have been using it and I absolutely love it little bit goes a long way it’s my new favourite it’s the most concentrated shampoo I’ve ever used in my life

Cindy Denton: Unfortunately pureology I am allergic too but I am looking into the redken thank you for doing this video I have struggled finding a line that is protein free as protein breaks my hair!

Mary O: I’ve been using amika forever and LOVE it, but my hair has been too greasy with it lately :/ so I’m sold on switching to purology and seeing how that goes. Thank you for all the info!

Megan: I currently love using the Olaplex duo about once a month paired with the No.3 treatment, especially when I am getting close to a haircut appt and need to keep it in tact to stop and current damage. If I use it too frequent I don’t like it as much. It makes my hair heavy. If my hair is extra dry I will use only the conditioner with my normal shampoo like you mentioned since it is THAT good. But for my normal routine shampoo and conditioner I personally love the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Moisturizing formula with Lavender and Mint. I have really thick, dry, wavy/curly hair with a drier scalp. I’ve tried so many other brands and continue to use this duo since it moisturizes my textured hair without being heavy, it’s smells amazing, and doesn’t get super greasy when I workout consistently throughout the week. Idk what the pH is but it seems to work perfectly with whatever the pH of the water I use is. I know when I lived in an area with hard water that changes my whole routine.

alexa: Hi Abbey! Have you ever tried Acure haircare? If so, what products do you recommend? Thanks so much, love your videos ❤️

Megan Adams: My favorite right now is Defy Damage by Joico. It's my number 1 outside of Purelogy.

Carolyn R: I love the amika conditioner & deep conditioner

Diane McFall: I’m going to try pureology after watching this video…. Love all of your videos! They help so much

saneee: Hi! Could you maybe start mentioning the scent of the products or if they are scent free? I like that you show the consistency, but I haven´t really noticed you mentioning scents. I recently bought the pureology strength cure and I was surprised by the scent, because I really disliked it and I´m not sure if it´s worth buying in the future because of that.

Amy Woodworth: I use Olaplex. I will not be trying the Amika bc my hair gets weighed down by so many products. I’m interested in trying the Redkin or Purology. I am also using Dirty Bee shampoo & conditioner. I really like how my hair looks & feels with it. It comes in bars which I surprisingly really like. And it is inexpensive & lasts a long time. You only need a little bit! Thanks for the great info!
