One conversation that i started seeing a lot online, especially since i stopped using raw oils and butters in my hair, is the one around quality. Hair products use quality products in your hair, they say, but what does it all really mean? I'Ve also been seeing a lot around the narrative that the recommended products are anti-black, because a lot of them aren't black owned companies. Hmm, so this got me thinking. Is there such a thing as white or black hair products are products that are formulated for us by us better quality than say products that are formulated for a white person, and is that even a thing our products formulated for a specific person in mind personally and From my experience - and i probably should have a little disclaimer - there is no scientific backing as to what i'm about to say. I feel like a lot of the products formulated by black owned. Businesses are thicker on average they're a little bit richer. They have a lot more oils in them and we know we love us some oils, but that's not necessarily a good thing. From my understanding and from you know the little research that i've been doing - and you know what i actually gravitate towards thick products - a nice rich, deep conditioner - that's what used to do it for me. I actually wanted my hair to be coated with something to feel like it was coated with an oil, but from what i've been learning. That'S not a good thing. For example, i actually wanted my shampoos to be very gentle on my hair because i feel like, as a population we've been told, to stay away from harsh shampoos, shampoos that are going to strip our hair living in brittle, and i think we're associated that strip filling With brittle hair and that couldn't be any further from the truth, so having rich gentle products isn't necessarily the way to go, especially when it comes to shampoos. Girl, i feel like. I should make a whole videos on shampoos because we really need to understand their role in hair care and how we need to be using them. But you know what that's a story for another day, but back to my original point. Are products just product and hair dress hair? Does it matter to you if your product is black owned, formulated specifically for black hair, because at the end of the day, if hair is hair, can it really be formulated for a specific hair type? Does it matter really is what i'm asking and to test that theory, i'm going to try some new products today, so thank you iggy here for sponsoring this portion of the video you're looking at the product lineup for today's wash day and as you can see, we Have some people that does not look like me on the bottle if you can catch my drift, but i feel like those are the perfect products to test out. My theory today are hair products just products. First up we have this legendary shampoo and it is formulated for all hair types, i'm talking straight wavy, curly coily, and then we have the hot girl hydrating conditioner. This is a deeply nourishing, conditioner and check this out. This has shea butter in it. Yes, girl, our beloved shea butter comes back and i'm excited to use it. We are going to follow things up with this leave-in conditioner. It'S called mistress, hydrating, hair balm and we have a gel so between you and i i didn't realize i got the small size for this one. It was not intentionally done, but we are going to be using this coconut oil gel and we're gon na see how that works for us. Okay. Now we know that i don't do well with any kind of gels. I'Ve recently discovered the area of botanical gels and there's a reason why i stayed away from gels for a long time. This isn't a botanical gel, but it does have coconut oil. It'S formulated for all hair types, including tightly coiled hair from looking at the ingredient list. We have fourth ingredient is coconut oil. Aloe vera is actually the fifth ingredient in here. So that's pretty promising. We have rosehip fruit, extract and there's also glycerin in here, but it's a little bit down the ingredient list and there's some water-soluble silicones in here. So this is not silicone free, but it is paraben and sulfate free as well as gluten free and cruelty. Free also doesn't have mineral oil. If that's something that matters to you girl, i don't know, so we have our products and honestly it's time to hop in the shower and wash our hair. My hair is five days post wash day and she is feeling a little dry. It is getting cold outside. So it's not as humid as it used to be, so i do find that my wash and gos are not lasting as long as they used to in the summer. Before i hop in the shower, i want to show you my scalp, because girl, my scalp is no longer flaky. I just want to put it out there huh. I need a comb hold on, got em, so i've always had a flaky scalp. I had what i thought was really bad dandruff at some point in my journey turns out. It was just a lot of product build up, so i would stay away from products a little bit, but i will still oil, my scalp here and there and when i first started this, no oil, no butter thing, my scalp was super flaky. I want to say it took about two months for my scalp to stop getting flaky, especially past five, six days of a wash and go, and now my last wash and go. I think i did like 10 days and i didn't wash my hair and my scalp was not flaky. So that's why i wanted to share that with you and yes, i desperately need to get a touch up. My color is completely faded. Why not completely, but my color has faded quite a bit and my roots have grown a lot the only time i don't want my hair to grow she's growing, my god, it's crazy! How much new growth i have! Oh, my god! Okay, let me show you my scalp girl, i don't know if you can see my skull girl mind you it's been about six days since i walked five five days five days since i've washed my hair and i barely have any flaking on my scalp and that's Very crazy to me, because you know, which is how my scalp been set up. It would get really flaky after a couple of days, especially since i was no longer oiling it, but there she has barely anything on my scalp and i'm very proud of her. Now we can hop in the shower first thing. First, you already know what to do. You got ta dance in the shower a little bit. This is the before of my hair. She is feeling a little dry, but we're gon na fix that with some water. That'S right because water is hydration, so i'm going to make sure i thoroughly thoroughly wet my hair before i do anything once i'm satisfied, i'm grabbing the shampoo and i like to put the shampoo directly on my scalp first and girl. That'S right! I did not section my hair, i know i am moving away from the whole sectioning thing, but what i do basically is, i slide my finger in my roots and i massage it. I try not to disrupt my strands, so i keep them as straight as possible and i do find that it helps when you think about it: stylists don't really wash our hair in sections, so i've just been trying to do that because i save a lot more Time presses me having to section my hair before i get in the shower. By the way, this shampoo is meant to add, moisture shine, bounce to your hair as well as smoothness, while nourishing your scalp for stronger, healthier. Looking hair and i have to say the shampoo was actually very nice, it was very hydrating and it left my hair clean, but yet nourished. I really liked it and i did shampoo twice going in with the conditioner. This is meant to be a deeply nourishing conditioner that will revive dry and overworked hair. It'S really good for color, which is perfect, because obviously i have color right now. It gives extreme hydration it claims and it has shea butter to lock in that moisture without leaving it greasy or weighted down. When i first used the conditioner, i it felt okay, i didn't really think that it was spectacular until i added water. Oh you see my face. You saw that girl. I was like okay, it just turned into this creamy very rich conditioner in my hair, and i really felt the softness, and at that moment i knew that detangling was not going to be a problem, so i worked it through made sure that my hair was coated From root to tips and then proceeded to detangle my hair as usual, i do a little bit of finger detangling first, before i go in with the brush the brush that i'm using is brush with the best, and i have to admit lately, i haven't been as Caring as i typically am when it comes to detangling, i kind of just do it - i've been moving away from being so extremely gentle with my hair, because is that even needed? In any case, this is the amount of hair that came out. This is five days of shedding and i went ahead and rinse the conditioner just to go in and apply the leave-in, so the leave-in is interesting and the texture is definitely different. It'S not like any other leave-in that i've typically used. You guys know the leave-in that we're used to are very rich, very oily, very creamy, this one melted into my hair and it's meant to boost hydration and reduce frizz. It did not leave my hair greasy or weeded down. It was very interesting. I have to say like i, i would love to use it again so that i can really give an opinion on it. My first opinion was that it was just a nice texture. It just melted into my hair gone where's, the leave-in conditioner. We don't know, as i continue my routine, i like to use a shower cap just to lock in the moisture all right we are out of the shower. Ah, i feel good we're gon na do this watch and go because you know that's my favorite hairstyle. Now we have the coconut gel. My hair feels really soft, really good. I kind of like the leave-in. I have to check if there's silicones in it or anything like that, just because in the instructions it did say to apply and then blow dry or air dry. If you want to so just because it says blow dry, i feel like there may be some sort of heat protectant in it. In any case, let's see if we can do this wash and go and do it quickly. So i am going to do the same step that i know how the same steps that i've been using, although i may modify it a little bit just because i don't want to spend all afternoon trying to perfect my wash and go because i don't care. Oh, i need what are all my bobby pins like. Why are you can never find bobby pins? We did not find them, but we found little rubber band. The direction says to apply to clean towel, dried hair and let air dry for optimal separation. Hydration, towel dried hair. Hmm, i'm conflicted! I don't! Oh it's creamy! Oh, it smells good too. This is not what i expected. I kind of expected like a clear gel. I don't know why! Um! Okay! Now i don't know what i expect anymore, so maybe uh. Okay. I don't know i don't know what is the reason jen? Why did you choose to do this? Okay, you know what i'm gon na do. I'M just gon na do the same thing that i always do with my wash and gos. Although i kind of know it's not gon na turn out exactly like that, but wash and froze are a thing. Okay, i truly believe in wash and frost. So i'm just going to like separate pieces of hair and that's set okay. We are not going to go in and try to do all the separation that we typically do and we're just going to leave our hair and see what happens because at the end of the day, we keep chase - and i know so so many people are mad At me, when i say this, we keep chasing a particular look when it comes to a wash and go. This is a whole deep conversation i'm getting into right now. You know what i mean like i'm actually going to leave it like this. It'S not defined at all, so it's definitely not going to dry with any kind of definition, but i'm going to just let it be because it just hit me. I really just feel like when it comes to wash and go's. We really do the most, and you know what this side of my hair i'm actually not going to use any water. I'M just gon na follow the directions, because this is supposed to give me hydration and truth be told. Hydration is all i care about, not definition. So we're gon na go in with the gel just like that. Just run it through everywhere. My hair is detangled, it's washed, it's hydrated! It feels soft. That'S all i want so no. I am not going to do all the extra definitions that i typically do. Although i am going to you know separate a little bit just because i know how my hair is going to dry, that's it. We just keep chasing this particular look when it comes to wash and go - and i say this because a lot of the times people reach out to me and they'll, say or i'll, see comments online too and people will say washington's could never work for me or Wash and goes does not look good on me. What does that actually mean like wash and go is basically just your hair. You know, and i think we've been conditioned to feel that wash and goes have to be like this separated. Curly. Look, that's not you know what forcey hair naturally do and we do a lot trying to get our hair to look like that, and you know me too, i i do a lot to get my hair to look separated in my wash and goes and i actually Uploaded a video not too long ago. That said you know the perfect wash and go technique for 4c hair, and why is it perfect? Because it gives you that the definition that we all just keep chasing after so i'm not gon na - do that today today we're doing a wash and fro proudly too a little bit of gel it's so freeing actually that i don't have to add all this water To my hair get water all over my floors, kind of freeing the gel doesn't even feel like a gel in my hair. It does feel more like a moisturizer in case, you were wondering by the way the description says. Just coconut oil infused gel is the foundation in creating the hydrated lived in undone hair of right now, it's funny because i feel like us, you know: blacks, black women. We'Re chasing definition turns out there's a whole undone lived-in hair that is hot and poppin. At the moment, i didn't know that oh yeah, rich kid, rich kids, moisturizing properties, give you the hair you've always wanted and apply to clean towel dried hair, let hair dry for optimal separation and hydration allah, your favorite supermodel. It really feels like a moisturizer. It doesn't feel like a gel at all wow. This is going so fast and i love that. I really love that for me, because i have a lot to do. I got ta edit this video that you're watching i got ta post on instagram. You know i got stuff to do and no one's gon na spend all afternoon defining their hairs. At least i don't, and by the way i don't know if i showed you the texture for this and see that it's like a very what is that thing called the thing play-doh like texture, as you can see, i can like move it in my hand, and It doesn't like stick it's very it's okay. I can pick it up like it's, so it's so interesting. It'S a very interesting um texture. I feel like a kid. As i'm doing my hair right now, a thought just came to mind. You know in the intro i was questioning are products just products if they say hair is hair, scalp is scalp, scalp is basically skin right. Products are just formulated for hair. How come we never use dry shampoo, you know, and by we i'm talking about black women. Um, i can speak for myself. I'Ve never used dry. Shampoo, i feel like dry. Shampoo is just not something that was formulated with me in mine, but when you think about it, we have scalp, and especially if you work out a lot and you sweat a lot wouldn't dry shampoo, be a solution to not having to wash your hair too frequently. Isn'T it what it's for? That'S what it's for? Isn'T it? Oh, my gosh, someone. Let me know in the comment section: if you're black have you ever used dry shampoo, and if you have what's your experience like how come we don't use dry shampoo, i remember there was this one influencer that had a she took a sponsorship and she was using Dry, shampoo and people roasted her that was years ago by the way don't go digging into anybody's instagram feed, and i mean even i was like interesting, because i've never used dry shampoo and i thought it was interesting that she was making like an ad about it. Anyways just food for thoughts. Let me know down below. Let me finish this hair and come back when i'm done so. This video isn't too too long because i feel like it may be, and no one likes long videos. Oh, oh my shoulders! This is the worst part about doing wash and go it's wash and work out. Oh my god, omg jen, i kind of like it last section. Okay, first of all, who the hell keeps texting me you're, probably thinking, oh, my god jen it took you forever to do this little toilet wall around your fingers and actually no from start to finish. This wash and go was 48 minutes and 23 minutes was spent in the shower, so washing conditioning and detangling, and about 25 minutes outside of the shower doing the wash and go, and that includes me talking to y'all and doing all of that. So it was quick things i quite enjoyed this wash and go. If i may just say so myself i don't know, i should have parted this part of my hair. I didn't now looks a little wonky. My hair feels super soft right now, it's very fluffy, as you can see very, very fluffy, so i'm gon na give it a should i give it a shake. Okay, let me give you a little turnaround first before i mess it up so so it looks like all right now, let's just quite like what it's giving right now i am going to, i think, sit on the. Should i sit under the dryer. Should i let it air dry, it does say to air dry, but i want to kind of speed up the drying process, so i think i will sit under the dryer for a little bit and then i'll be back. I don't know. Maybe i'll do my makeup. Maybe i won't, i don't know we'll see how i feel so it is the next day and girl. You can't tell me nothing right now, listen, so many of us are set on having their wash and gos look a certain way, which is defined, separated flowy, but there is so much beauty in your forcy hair. Doing her thing. Okay, look at this wash and go. I don't want to make this video too too long, but girl. I am feeling this do. I know you see it okay. I know you see her just doing her thing and i'm just really happy that it took me 48 minutes to do my hair battery. I don't know if i updated you, i did not sit under the dryer, i did say i was going to, but i didn't i feel like if i did sit under the dryer. My hair would have been a little bit more elongated, a bit less shrinkage, because i know what you're thinking right now. Oh, my god jen the shrinkage the detangling later on, but i'm not even worried about that because once your hair sets in a particular way, you're not moving it around you're not doing anything crazy with it. At least you shouldn't you're sleeping in a silk or satin bonnet, so you should be okay until your next wash day, but of course i'll keep you guys updated, but my hair feels so good. It feels like 4c hair. It feels like what my hair always felt. Like so, some of the botanical gels, especially mustaf, gives more of a silky. It really smoothed out your hair, which is why it looks um separated and also has more of a elongated look to it. I think that's my theory and i'm sticking with it, whereas this gel just allows your hair to be your hair like it doesn't. I don't feel anything it's not weighted down. It does smell, really good. I love it. Okay, i want to give you like an up close shot on the hair okay, because i just think that she is giving when i took my hair out of the bonnet, which i'll put a little footage over here. When i took my hair out of the bonnet. It was very flat, and all i did was just run my fingers through it just to get a little bit of shape going and honestly, if you're doing wash and gos, and you don't have your hair cut into a shape. You are doing yourself a great disservice. Okay, because i feel like wash and gos look their best when you have a shape, so my hair is cut into this particular shade and honestly, i feel like it doesn't matter what i do to my hair. It looks good, it's the shape. Okay, it's the shape. So make sure you get yourself a nice haircut. I know i know we don't like it. We don't want to hear about it, but it really makes or break your style if your hair is uneven. If you have stringy ends, if you have a lot of split ends, it really breaks your style, so i'm excited to see how this wash and go progresses throughout the week and how my hair feels if it does stay hydrated like the product claim we're going to Keep all of that in mind, but thank you so much for watching. Thank you for tuning in to this video. I appreciate it and i will see you in my next one bye,

Jenn Jackson: Thank you IGK Hair x Sephora for sponsoring today's video! Sephora's Holiday Savings Event is happening right NOW (November 5th - November 15t) so be sure to get all your faves! Product used: Shampoo: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1bwms/ Conditioner: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1bwmu/ Leave in https://go.magik.ly/ml/1bwmq/ Styler: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1bwmv/

yamanya tembo: I think the issue is partly to do with the fact that even though the products can work on our hair, they do NOT market to us. We are not their target audience. This kind of plays into the narrative that they didn't make the products with our hair in mind so we treat them with suspicion and handle with a ten foot pole. Lol! I must say though I have used some 'white' people products and they work alright.

Edua Gonzalez: They only started making products catering to our hair when they saw how much money the market truly was from black women, so yeah they’re cool, but I’d still rather give money to our own

Cheshire Dj: Just like with Black owned products, some will work for you and some won't. You used products that emphasize moisture and they worked out. It is a preference to support Black companies, ideally they are focused on making products for our hair issues and I appreciate that. Love to see Black businesses succeed!

Kammara Jackson: I kind of disagree with the chasing curls thing, like trying to get my hair to do something it doesn’t want to do. We have curly hair, it wants to curl. I want my hair to last as long as it can so yes, I want the definition. And the more definition I have at the next wash day the less tangles I have to deal with‍♀️. In my opinion, for my hair. Your hair turned out really cute

She Rocks: I've tried a variety of products targeted for black hair and none has worked like Giovanni which is what i currently use. I'm choosing products based on how they work and feel in my hair and not based on who made it and who it was targeted for. Common sense people

Tambari: Girl I use Garnier Fructis leave in conditioner and I love it. Whatever works for you and fits your budget is what should matter.

Malyasha7: As you said, hair is hair, scalp is scalp and as someone who lives in France, in the beginning of my hair journey in 2011 I had no choice but to use "white" products if I didn't want petroleum/petrolatum in my hair. The issue is that they don't include us, they don't target us so basically they deny us and I can't with this behaviour anymore so if I can go black, I do. I'm not even chocked that there's shea butter in the gel, I mean white people are doing what they've always been doing. They see what's going on in our community, take it and make it trendy... And then have the audacity to deny us. That's the circle. i mean I just saw a french hair ad for product with castor oil and manuka honey... About dry shampoos I guess relaxed girls can use it but there's no way I brush my natural hair dry and basically that's what you need to do when you use dry shampoo at least the last time I checked

Secular Artist: This recently came up in some online natural hair convos. Dry shampoo is to *mask* the oily look straight hair gets as sebum coats the hair and ultimately helps straighter haired folks stretch their washes out. So dry shampoo is a styling product not a hygiene one. The hair can still smell and is drying out the longer the washes are stretched out. Curly hair grows away from the scalp and doesn't get that Oily look so it's not something we need. At this point I will use any product if it works, I don't care who makes it. And I won't go out of my way to support a black brand if they don't actually understand the science of hair, haircare and styling. I'm not into the kitchen experiment type brands.

Neosoul_prima: Thank you for this! I honestly felt so guilty at first supporting and loving Aveda! However, products for curly, and super coily hair are as you said meant to elongate and define! While others are formulated for care free hair! I love a mix of both, and that’s that!

Samantha McIntosh: Your hair came out super cute! Love a fluffy wash-N-fro . I think when it comes to shampoo and conditioner as long as they are quality product it should agree with our hair. We probably have to be more selective about stylers depending on what we want to accomplish with our curls and coils. Never used dry shampoo. But considering buying the black owned Sunday II Sunday root refresh micellar rinse spray for when I want to prolong washing even after a sweaty workout

Lagean Brown: I’m writing this to request that you always continue to do some natural hair content. I see a lot of old-school natural hair Youtubers, especially if they have 4c hair, are getting out of the game. It’s very important for younger women and men who are deciding to wear their hair natural that they have positive mentors to look to. Even if you decide to decrease the amount of natural hair contact that you do, always make sure that you continue to do some natural hair content. You are a mentor for many natural hair women especially with 4c hair. Your content is great

Timetrae: I FREAKING LOOOOVED the OUTCOME!!! I’m gonna DO THAT GIRL!!! I’m so OVER spending 100 hrs on my HEAD!!!

Victory Begins in the Garden: I choose to support black owned hair care when ever I can I like to go where I am respected

Stephanie Hicks: Question: from what you’ve been learning and sharing, hydration is what makes the curls pop and separate, so do you feel like your hair was hydrated after you washed and conditioned?

miniminott48: Jenn, your wash and go/fro looks fabulous!!!! The cut really enhanced the look! I have 4A hair and to get a curly fro, I use a leave in conditioner only. My hair is light, airy with shrunken curls and I don't have an issue with extreme tangles on wash day. Please update us regarding additional tangles if any.

Ossie R: I love the way my hair feels without adding oils and butters. Good video to answer a question that I’m sure a lot of us have. Shrinkage is healthy hair. I like the idea of my hair looking a feeling like it’s supposed to sometimes I like definition but I don’t mind a fro.

Chromagens: Love this hairdo! I love fluffy hair I try not to take too much time styling and typically just rock whatever results come out (unless it flakes ). Recently I also just tried like Shampoo and condition and add no product just to see how my hair is doing. It surprised me, stayed fairly pliable and soft altho it gave me a bit more detangling work. Re dry shampoos…. Never tried it. I figured I would just wash my hair lol. I did use “white products” for years tho. At least shampoo and conditioner. Mostly because 1) more readily accessible 2) I was a fan of my local health shop and also did DIYs so I got a bunch of stuff there and 3) I was very much a “whatever is on sale” person. I switched back to products marketed to black people when I moved and was closer to stores that carried them.

ybell1294: My take (and I'm sure it's not an original one either): haircare formulation is probably a lot like skincare on the backend. Yes, they're definitely formulating to a "type", but it's things like "oily", "dry", targeting particular concerns, etc. Marketing for "dark skin" in the skincare realm is a fairly recent phenomenon, but even then, it's really just code for "formulated to avoid irritation and to prevent/treat hyperpigmentation". There's nothing wholly unique about skin due to race, and the same goes for hair. That said, marketing teams really do be out here giving people complexes.

Dany J: “White people” hair products work just as well (usually lighter weight and none greasy), but the stylers are a hit and Miss. That’s with any product line but “Black people” hair products usually work more often than not for tight curly and coily hair textures when worn in their natural state. That is the only difference. It’s the same for using any products that aren’t geared toward curly hair. They can still be quite effective for basic hair care as well as curly styling.

Cherelle :D: I personally don't want to give my money to a company who in all the years and in all the board meetings never thought a black person could be a face of their brand. . . . . EVER. Only of recent these companies have realised black people exists and that's only because they saw some other companies making money. It's the principal for me rather than the fact they do/don't work for me xx

Lisa Funchess: Jenn, I did the no raw oil and butter and having similar awakening like you're having, I still don't do wash and go but my twist outs with mousse have been bomb and lasting 4-5 days which never ever happened when I was using oils and butter. I'm so happy for us! LOL

T and Z RV Life: I love the way your hair turned out! At first I thought it wasn't going to work out well, but when you finish dialing it I knew it was going to be a beautiful set once it dried and it was and is! Very nice job!

Ogaga Jabuoma: My comment is not about the product debate. Just wanted to remind you to clarify however you do (I know colored hair care is a little different). Recently my wash and gos were not lasting as long and I also thought it was because it's getting colder and dryer but once I clarified, my hair started behaving normally again. Hope this helps

Bnell Aniyah: Sis, your hair came out beautiful! Generally speaking I think there is a difference between so called WP and BP. It seems that many WW wash daily to combat oiliness. While most BW have the opposite problem. Therefore, WP tend to be more clarifying and lighter which often leaves BW hair feeling dry and stripped even when the ingredients are organic... Leaves me wondering what the effect would be on your hair if you used those products long term.

JezreelJoy: Fredrik Fekkai products worked wonders for my hair back in 2007-2010. My hairstylist used to use it on my hair and then recommended I purchase my own in between visits. It's definitely not marketed to us, but I've considered revisiting the brand.

dollyrevenge98: Redken, Joico, Olaplex, Garnier fructis (especially the masks) are brands that have some of my favorite products that work great for my hair. As someone else said they don't have us in mind when formulating or marketing their products even though they do work for all hair types. What's important are the hair issues you're trying to address.

Sabine Marie: Wow your scalp looks great!! Love this experiment. I’ve used dry shampoo when I have braids in. It worked out pretty good! I feel like it cleaned my scalp and made my hair smell really good. I just sprayed between braids and then wiped it with a towel. I’ve seen Cyn Doll use it on her silk press as well which seemed to work really well. I probably wouldn’t use it on my hair while it’s in a wash and go though. I love how this came out! I kinda do like that natural unbothered look. It’s giving I woke up like this and I am beautiful

Rabielle Parfait: Great video Jenn! ☺️ I think we should also focus more on the quality of products than just black owned. If a hair care brand claims it works for all hair types than it should also do a job!! From what I've observed through the years is many shampoos and conditioners work ok on our hair type. But when it comes to styling it (gel based or styling butter) it rarely works on our hair type like the way we're used to, especially on tightly coiled 4c hair. But that's just my experience on trying regular drug store products in Germany. I'm not sure on using dry shampoos though because usually we don't suffer from oily hair that needs to be removed.

blueisis02: I'm shook! The products played nicely in type 4 hair! I LOVED this carefree look. I mean isn't that what wash n go's are supposed to be?! I love it & I'm gonna try this myself! Thx!!!

For Isadora: This was my favorite of the wash n gos. I’m with you, our hair is crazy similar and I love when mine is giving all 4cness but not crunchy cause I needs the moisture to keep the strands

Linda B: Yay for the progress of "no flaky scalp'!!! I know that must feel really good!

Kacy_blake: Jenn, I work out 4-6 days weekly and usually rock protective styles! I frequently use dry shampoo and it’s fine with me!

MingToi Isaac: So glad to hear and see you enjoy your hair and letting your hair do what it does ❤️

All things possible32: Yes I used to use dry shampoo when I would wear braids. I really helped keep my scalp from being itchy.

King Chameleon’s Eye: Lol it’s the title for me. Actually tresemme/garnier fructis / L’Oréal actually work on my afro hair

Epic Realist TV: This is BEAUTIFUL! I absolutely love these results!

heyfranny: Jenn, I ain't gon pretend like I know anything about colored hair, but to me your dark roots with the 'faded' (you said it) color looks fine. Love how you're experimenting with new products and just with your hair in general. I'm over here needing to be talked off the ledge cuz I'm about to chop my hair off. I'm just tired. This Diana Ross hair of mine isn't working for me anymore. I just want simplicity and my damn time back. Sorry, that was a lot... Pray for me Gurl. In regards to dry shampoo, I ain't gon lie I always felt that it's for white people, but I think I would use it once I big chop just for the experience and if I end liking it I'll continue to use it btwn washes Idk. Also, Gurl Idk why you felt like your video was gonna be or was too long. I happen to be a fan of long ass videos so next time chat on please.

Laya Moore: Yes girl. I have found the sectioning prior to washing to be so unnecessary!

Tasha B.: I use dry shampoo whenever I get smoke in my hair and I have recently washed it... mainly to get rid of the smell. Great video!

nikki chavis: Hi! ‍♀️ I love long videos lol feel free to make them at anytime. The hair looks good!

Angel Love: Every now and then I check out wp hair products and I'm blown away because my expectations are so low yet the products are bomb. It's a hit or miss sometimes but don't sleep on Dem wp hair products

MsNaturale Michelle: The whole chasing curl insecurity thing maybe is only you. You will not let it go hahaha! I used to think I had 4c now I am not so sure. My hair gets fully defined with just conditoner only. These days when I rinse it out the curls are still there. The only reason why I set with gel is so I can get 4-5 days out of my style. It's been 7 months at least since stopping raw oils and butters. My hair is literally defined with shampoo in it. I cannot believe it.

313AKA: IGK and Amika are “Caucasian “ brands that my type 4 hair LOVES.If you like coconut try IGKs Thirsty products.

marian B: I had a bad experience when I was aittle girl..my mom used a spray shampoo and the fumes went to my head...so it's a no for me. I don't care that it has been 40 years or so, and they may have upgraded, but no more.

SimpForMe ♓️: Your wash n go came out great and the color really suits you ❤️ I think products are just products. Most of the products I use are from black owned brands though. However, when it comes to my hair I’m looking for high quality well formulated products and sometimes I won’t get that from a black owned brand. My loyalty is to my hair so whichever brand can give me that is who I give my money to.

Willeneful: Would love to see how you hair looks and hear from you onthe condition of your hair in 1 month with just using these same....bc even with products formulated for curly, kinky hair in mind the true test isn't one usage, its on average after 1 month especially if you wash your hair weekly to see any real benefit.

Jazmin B: i use dry shampoo when i wear my hair straight, it works well with removing the oil from my scalp and hair. and I use "white people" hair products mostly. they work great on my hair. i have yet to use something black owned, mostly cause of the price.

Apara: Wash n Go came out BEAUTIFUL I only use products that are market towards Caucasians. The products for us contains too much oils and butters which are too heavy for my low porosity hair. It cause horrible product buildup, which results in my taking way to long in the shower washing. I use Sebastian shampoos. For my clarifier I use Reset, for Moisturizing I use Twisted. For my leave in I use Paul mitchell The One Conditioner. I have not found a conditioner or deep conditioner that works for me . I always wish I can skip that step...it cause so much product build up . For styler I do use Design Essential. My stylist recommended it to me. I think DE is still Black Owned??? Love the almond and Avocado line: mousse, curl revitalizer and foaming custard ❤.

Coach Tisa: I like rinse free shampoo! I use to get rid of product buildup and refresh my hair! I’ve used dry shampoo once before and it worked but I definitely had to put moisture back in to it!

MingToi Isaac: Good for you, sis. So refreshing to see you enjoy your hair❤

Mara: I think hair products are really just products and if you use them correctly you’ll realize its not really specific to race.

Stacie Stephenson: I have gone to the same hair dresser/stylist for over 35 yrs...My daughters started at 3 and 5 yrs old... and their hair was down their back (like past the bra)NO Braids...No Gel...Washed Once a month! I ACTUALLY COMBED THEIR HAIR WITH RIBBONS AND BOWS Daily... One had thinner, curlier sandy colored and the other thick and kinky....MY Experience...Its the HAIR Care!...I am FIRM BELIEVER in OLIVE OIL MASSAGES AND APPLICATION A FEW TIMES A WEEK and KEEP the ends, TWISTED BRAIDED AND "Bunned" down Unless it is a HOLIDAY or Special Occasions. I JUST THINK CONSISTENCY AND HEALING HANDS ARE GROWING HANDS...I personally did their one two or 3 pony tails daily throughout high school. There after...they were on their own...and choose to not go to hair dresser, wear weaves, braids and NOW their hair is "above the shoulders"...Their Choice.

Felicia W: I like to shop black owned when I can but my hair health will come first. We can support black owned companies with skin care, body care, make up and anything else. It's not just hair products.

TLV Lav: I bought a Pantine dry shampoo that I plan to use on my braids! My daughter used it for her braids, about 3 months! I watched Vaughn tv another awesome YouTuber, she used it on her braids!

Tamu Meekins: I have used dry shampoo when I have braids. I loved it. Made my braids last longer.

TLV Lav: Beautiful, thanks for sharing! I will support what ever works for my hair!

MiVidaBellisima: I’ve found a routine that works and thankfully found stylers that fit the detox because that works for me… my stylers and cowash are black owned but my shampoo conditioner are AG ‍♀️

Levi: Your curls are so beautiful. I’m jealous but in a good way. the style turned out super cute

Priscilla Larbi: I assumed dry shampoo was to absorb the oil/sebum that collects on our scalp/strands over the week. I've used it once or twice while having box braids in and I saw no difference. And if I remember correctly, it left a white cast on my hair (maybe I was holding the bottle too close or used too much?). Just better to actually cleanse your actual scalp and hair in my opinion

psr076: I didn’t know there was this conversation about the recommendations of products BGC gave. I purchase their book last year when it was on sale. They have a revised book and a lot black owned suggested products are no longer in the list (like curl junkie, earthonatural). I do from time to time use products that’s doesn’t formulate for my hair (Giovanni, L’Oréal) but I mostly purchase blackowned companies. I wasn’t expecting the texture of the gel you tried. I think people should do what suit their hair

Kay-Ann K: I thought it was common sense that hair products are just hair products. But I guess people still need to be reminded that the natural hair community still was thriving before "black created and black targeted hair products". I personally choose to support black owned when I can but if a product works and it's affordable I still use it.

LIsa Fredero: Hey Jenn looking BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS...when I loose natural cause now I have locs...I used to use Innersense Hair products and I loved them so much

Eileen: What I've been doing is adding a different semi permanent color every time my hair fades back to blonde.. It's been fun exploring the color spectrum

diva jbl: I am natural & my hair is very fine, low to medium density, & is weighed down easily by heavy products. Many of the products marketed for us are too heavy for my hair.

marie d: Your end result is just bomb! A 45min well invested! ;) Dry shampoo was made for people who produce a lot of sebum that shows fast on straight hair. For some people, the day after washing, their hair start showing a greasy look. The dry shampoo is made to help stretch the next shampoo for a day or two. That being said, it's not always used like that... BTW: I can't wait to see a twist out on your new haircut! :)

Charlotte Roberts: Your hair is cute gf. I say and I say what works for you do it. Not everyone is going to agree in the first place. Black or white products do it even matter. I know black products seem to gear towards our texture of hair with moisture, hydration, oil and butter. I know back in the day when I used to go the Dillard's, JC Penny and Regis salon I don't think that they carry a lot of black products but they did work well on my hair white products. I believe that today we buy black products because we try to support our own which is good. I use both but I normally use black brand more. Like, I said I used both.

doreeneb: The outcome wash n fro was hella sexy the texture was everything

Su: Hi Jen I love how light hair colors look on you.

Felicia W: I think dry shampoo is for people with oily scalps. It takes the shine or greasy look out of the hair. It's basically so people don't have to wash their hair every day.

Beautiful Dreamer: I use dry shampoo when I have braids in. It works to keep my hair fresh for the week until I am ready to wash.

Angie CT: Your hair looks gorgeous

Manuela Dozier: I use dry shampoo all the time especially when on vacation love it.

Janacia Nix: That IGK hair gel works if you apply a TON but I love using it for its smell. It smells nice and expensive. I got it to work on my hair once but I had to use all the sample I had on on back micro section. Which is also my looser hair section and it did not work for the rest of my type 4 hair

Cecilia Parker: You Go Girl!

Joy Price: Your hair looks soooooo cute!!!! I just might try a wash and go

chinonye aziude: I use products made for all hair types. Works perfectly for me as natural hair products does

Brit JJ: 2:41 "as you can see we have some people that does not look like me on the bottle...if you catch my drift..." when I tell you I flatlined

SuthenGirl: It looks so good. You have an actual shape to your hair (typed before you said it at the end ). Even before you got the cut your wng’s looked good. I think because your curl pattern is consistent that helps. I’m 4c in the front and almost 3c/4a in the back .

From Singing To Soccer: Since going natural, I use a lot of "white people" products. OGX, Nexus, and Not Your Mother's are awesome. I think hair is hair. Black and white people have hair of all curl patterns. The only time you need products for one race or another is when you have chemical treatments, like relaxers for us or keratin treatments for white women. Other than that, hair is dead skin cells and responds to a lot of the same products.

Kira Player: I've never used dry shampoo but I'm choosing not to use it because the ones I see marketed come out white. I'm also hesitant about the application - sprays might not reach all the way to the scalp.

Paulette Moore: I section for detangling and deep conditioning. I shampoo like you do.

MoniMeka P: I use Pantene Classic Clean shampoo and conditioner. I love it. I don't like moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. They have too much oil in them.

C_Jane: I don’t have anything against white owned brands but ‘hot girl conditioner’. Really? And I see they have a ‘bad and boujee’ conditioner too. That shit is annoying AF.

xy11xy: When I first went natural I used Axe paste for wash 'n go's and walked around smelling like men's cologne but my hair looked amazing. It's discontinued now, but was a drug store brand marketed to young men... and white men with straight hair at that! The product itself worked great for my hair.

Raminakai: I am a person with German and English ethnic background and love better richer products no matter who makes them because I am brittle hair Queen. (Love “Carols daughter”) I got myself this Earth Supplied leave in stuff and am here trying to see if someone can tell me how to use it! I think if I can figure it out it - watch me! Each person no matter what ethnic has very unique hair and some works and others do not - it’s a gamble with our money.

Nat Williams: Hair looks Great Girl!

S Maxwell: Ok Jen .. your hair came out nice

Regina Blackshear: I love it!! It's beautiful!

Chiamaka Onuoha: From my understanding, dry shampoo is to negate the oil build up between washes (typically due to sebum). I think it makes sense to use when we get silk presses because then our sebum more easily coats our strands. It wouldn’t make sense for working out because sweat build-up is actually extremely drying on the scalp & hair strand

Usone Precious: I also think we do chase a certain look in wash n gos. It’s funny, I was just thinking about why don’t we use dry shampoos after working out. I’ve never used one but I would rather use that instead of stepping into the shower midweek to cowash. I love the hair! Now I want to do a wash n fro.

LaTreace Moore: I have used dry shampoo on my not so natural black hair and I must say it worked out fine although I did use it while I had my braids in and it wasn't you know I don't wash him as often when my hair is in braids or something so that dry shampoo helped keep them smelling fresh and feeling clean

klshufford: I love it! It was definitely GIVING sis!

J montoute: My hair has the texture for the afro style. I’m done beating it into a different style it does not want to do.

Imanuella AKP: i only use essential products and everything else is DIY. so when it comes to shampoo and conditioner- i don't even care who it's formulated for. as long it's cheap and moisturising.

d35chae90: I hadn't even clicked on the video Jen. I do my normail routine at night before I go to bed and to see if any of the people that I'm subscribed to... and I saw your box video and the title of it had me LITERALLY LAUGHING OUT LOUD GIRL !!!! The reason for that laughter is because I be wanting to use some of those permanent dyes on my hair. AND IN ACTUALITY, when I'm in the aisles looking, I say the exact same thing. "i don't know about these while people dye or shall I use the while people dye because my hair might fall out?" But honey, when I saw that I couldn't stop laughting.YOU ARE MOST DEF THE SWEETEST, I LOVE YOUR ACCENT, AND YOU ALWAYS KEEP IT I absolutely loved your video about the woman that said she's glad that she doesn't have her Mom's hair/black har. I have been researching that video and still haven't found it. First off. ALL HAIR IS GOOD HAIR, from me natural since 2019. Haven't had a relaxer since that year. Didn't know what I was facing but, I DID IT. I really didn't do a big chop because I hadn't relaxed my hair for about 9 months. Eventually I got to see what my hair texture was and I saw CURLS. Never in my whole 47 years of living have I seen my hair that way when wet, shampooed and conditoned. I am embrasing my natural hair everyday. I used to say, I'm used to hearing the word NAPPY. No One Black Person Has Nappy HAIR. We all have differnt textures and types of curl patterns. GOOD HAIR...., YES WE ALL HAVE GOOD HAIR.... AS A MATTTER OF FACT GREAT HAIR!!!!! #BLACKISBEAUTIFUL #HAIRISBEAUTIFUL #WEAREBEAUTIFUL

iateyursandwiches: I feel like wash and fros should be done quickly like in the shower in big sections(4-6). No shingling, just praying hands method or something. It seems like that gel cream would be good for a twist out though.

God’s Precious: I use what works for me. Some of our products use to be black owned; however, they were sold. Does that mean that the products have changed and we stop using them? I do use what’s best for me, but if I’m not treated properly in any store, color doesn’t matter. I think I tried dry shampoo once and it is DEFINITELY not for me

I S: I mix products, because it's hard to find all natural hair care products where I live. White companies suddenly offering products for me is just to get a piece of the huge Black hair care cake, and less about my wellbeing. If we were important, they would have included us a long time ago. I do not buy products with white women or men on them.

Noella Pauline Taaka: Wash and fros are my go to hair style. Or sometimes twist and braid out fros. (Just to get some stretch going on)
