Our scalps must never be ignored. They have been ignored for far too long. Oh, my god. What are you doing there? I didn't even realize you're sitting here today we're going to talk about count them one, two, three, four, five, six, seven common hair care mistakes. You could be making nine eight seven six, five, four three, two one, let's go. This is serving angela lansbury beauty and the beast tale as old as time, not having a consultation with your hairdresser. One must have a consultation with a hairdresser. Okay. We want to have a consultation with our hair person to make sure that you're gon na walk out of there happy with your hair. I really like to use pictures when you're like doing a consultation, so you can think about like. Oh, i want it this long or like this long and then the hairdresser can be like, oh well, that person's hair is really curly like, but we could try something like this. It just gives you like a common frame of reference, so we love pictures for consultations and we love consultations in general. Go consultations2022, okay! I am a little bit guilty. Wilty mcguilty of this like. If i was doing clients hair, i would always make sure that their hair is like totally 100 bone dry before we flat iron or curling iron. Like every time my own hair, sometimes i'd be in atlanta, filming queer eye or kansas city in the like height of summer or atlanta, in the height of summer, like philly in the height of summer or like texas, in the height of summer and it'll, be a Little bit like super hot outside, they could feel some moistness building up in my root. So i would just like maybe not blow dry, that all the way before flat ironing it, and you literally can hear your hair sizzle. It is such a surefire way to like snap, your hair off, because really your heat protectant and like your products, can't work if they're not like dried all the way into the hair so flat, ironing hair, that's still a little bit damp or wet, is or curling Ironing it really not good it's a real sizzle crackle pop. It'S not good, so make sure it's all the way dry. So we love a good blow dryer or just making sure that your hair is like fully dry before we iron it. But you guys like not to turn this into like a product commercial for blowout milk, but look at my hair youtube. Have you ever not understanding like a product that you bought and how to use? It is another big thing, so, just like not understanding product use, even with like our brand, like jv and hair like air dry cream is incredible. If you want to have your hair, have more texture in it. If you do air dry cream in your hair and it's curly and you want to blow it straight, it's not going to work as well. It'S not because really you know air dry cream puts texture in your hair. It doesn't help. Take it out if you use like um a pomade in your hair, when it's wet like a clay pomade, you would want to use in your hair when it's more dry, typically, there's always way to break the rules, which is you know, fine, um, but kind of Like not understanding how to use styling products is a big mistake that i see advice that i would get for. That is like look at youtube channels. Look at hairdressers, instagrams, tick, tocks, there's so much good content out there about ways to like use, beauty products. You can even like type in the name of the beauty product to learn how to go to websites. We have a lot of stuff on jb in here. So yes, learn honey, flicking your ponytails back when they're wet. This is why it's a huge issue - and i don't want to name names, but i saw do this on her instagram the other day and i wanted to slide into her dms and offer like unsolicited advice. But then i was like. Oh my god. I don't want to be that girl and like she only follows caramel and instagram, like of the five of us to just follow me, so i don't want to give her a reason like want to throw my butt on the walls but like, like you, have such Great hair, like we can't be slicking it back while it's wet. This is why, okay, i think, in an earlier video you'll remember when we were talking about hydrogen bonds and sulfur bonds. Hydrogen bonds are what we're dealing with when the hair is like wet and dry. When we're like heat, styling, the hair and so those hydrogen bonds, when your hair is wet, they stretch and then as they dry, they shrink. So if you like stretch your hair when it's wet in a really tight ponytail - and you anchor it back here and that hair is really stretched back wet as it dries, it's going to kind of shrink and that's going to cause breakage, because the hair can't be That strong to like support that tension, so it's just going to start to go like boink boink boink, so you really do want to have like if you want that really wet slicked back. Look though, what you actually need to do is blow dry, your hair all the way. Then you go back with like an air dry cream or a gel or a hairspray or you layer, a combination of those things, and that gives you the appearance of a wet. Look but it's actually done on dry hair, not on wet hair and that's the way you can do it in a safe way. Oh, this is a really good one. If you're trying a brand new hairstyle or like going to the salon for a dramatic change or just like styling your hair at home, in a way that you haven't tried before, don't do that in a huge rush. If you go into a salon wanting a big change and you're like oh, but i got ta leave in two hours, don't do that to your stylist good hair, especially big changes, can take a hot minute. So just know to clear your schedule. Don'T put that pressure on the stylist and also for you if you're, like styling your hair, radically different at home, doing a new style be prepared that it might not turn out and you might have to like wash your hair and kind of do your normal thing And you just don't want to be like rushing and freaking out like mad that you're late and sweating and like stressed and flustered before your event. So it's just good to like give yourself a little bit more time than you would even think you would need for trying out a new style or better. Yet i love it when people try out a new style when they have nowhere to go because then it just totally takes the pressure off and you can just have fun turn on some music light. A candle like just have fun playing with your hair. Another huge hair care, slash, hair, color mistake that i see folks making is not understanding how permanent hair color is, if you're, using like a semi-permanent, a demi-permanent or a permanent or bleach that is going to be in your hair forever. If it lightens your hair or darkens your hair, it's going to change your hair color. The reason that's important is because your hair only grows a quarter to a half an inch a month. If your hair is like, let's find a piece of my hair. That goes all the way down to the length. It'S like this hair on my head right here. This is like probably about like a foot long i would imagine like from here to here that's at least like 10 inches. So if my hair only grows a quarter of an inch a month right and that's 10 inches long, that's four months to make an inch that's a year to make three inches and 10 inches. That'S like three and a quarter years! So like this hair on my head is like old: it's been on my head since, like season three of queer eye so because the hair grows so slow. If you wanted to like totally grow out the hair color that you do and your hair is like down to your like collarbone, that's like a three four year, commitment to completely growing that hair color out and if you ever want to like go lighter or just Like restore your natural color, that is going to affect what you're able to do with your hair color for years in advance. If you do get a wild hair and you want to go blonde or even natural, that's going to be like hundreds of dollars of salon. Appointments and hours and hours and hours in the salon to undo what you've done. Hair color is fun, it's a way of self-expression, but it also can be very time-consuming and very expensive, and sometimes we get really caught up in the moment. We want to do really big changes, but it's important to think about like how much money you're going to spend how much time you're going to spend maintaining that look and if that's something you really want to do. Another big mistake that we make when getting our hair done in the salon is not talking about price before you get that bill, there's nothing more like ugh, it's like getting up to the salon and like finishing up and you have this great hair, and then you See this bill that takes you totally off guard and you're like how did it get this expensive and you don't really want to ask and then you feel weird about it and then so it's just important to be clear when you're walking in to this service into This appointment, it's okay, to ask what it's gon na cost up front. Honestly, i feel like your stylist and colorist should talk about it. They should bring it up, but it's okay for you to ask questions. It'S just better to always talk about those things before it really gets going on. Our scalps must never be ignored. They have been ignored for far too long, and it is time for us to nourish our scalps okay, because honestly, scalps are doing so much they're under so much pressure to just like perform and be everyone's best friend, and we have to take care of them. I do love our jv and hair pre-washed gap, oil, which is this gorgeous oil filled with gorgeous ingredients. Oh my gosh, some magical person just put some right here. This gorgeous pre-washed gap. Oil is filled with so many ingredients that are so beneficial for your scalp hair. Follicle and hair shaft we have our hemi squalene that we always have and everything it's our fermented sugar cane based gorgeous scalp and hair soother. It'S like the scalp and hair whisperer, hemi squalene, it's so soothing and also instantly strengthening but totally weightless and will not make your hair feel like greasy or weird. Then you have turmeric and rosemary extract to clarify and gently exfoliate. Your scalp. It'S gon na make sure that there's no dirt and debris plugging up that hair follicle. So it sets up your scalp for like the best hair growth, then there's also the zabalol, which that helps your hair to not break my little story. When i was talking about like breaking all my hairline off from flat ironing my hair wet, i literally regrew it with pre-wash top oil. The reason that scalp care is so important for overall hair health is that your scalp houses, the follicle, the hair follicle and that's what's responsible for growing your hair. There is space between the hair, follicle and then the hair shaft itself. That'S like you know, kind of all in like this area, so it's important for us to cleanse and make sure that nothing is getting like shoved down and that little follicle and also putting a lot of tension. It can like just pull the little hair follicles around your face, so nourishing and calming the scalp is really important. Another big mistake that we find is not understanding how to style your haircut once a really nice lady who used to go to the salon that i worked at in arizona back when i was like a teenager or like early 20s. This lady got her hair cut off, like she went from having really long hair to like a really short little pixie, and this really good hair stylist did it in our salon, but then that stylist went on vacation two days later after this woman gets her hair Cut she comes in and she's like. I hate this haircut, it's never what i wanted. You have to help me. You have to fix it, it's the worst thing i've ever seen and she loves her hairstylist. Actually, her hairstylist is still a really good friend of mine, but so i took out a brush and i started brushing her haircut because it was really like spiky and short and like the top, was giving like just really spiky, but it was meant to be. You know more brush forward and to the side kind of like a little twiggy pixie cut like it wasn't meant to be styled up and spiky was meant to be styled like down and more smooth and just more like pixie like a little bit of texture down. But not like kate gosselin, like like in like 2006., so i just started to brush her hair, put a little bit of water in her hair and i just kind of like switched the way it was styled. I didn't even touch scissors to it and she was like. Oh my god, i love it. It'S not a bad haircut. She didn't mess it up. I just didn't know how to style my hair and so a lot of times when we think that now also there are messed up haircuts and there are. There are 100 messed up haircuts. So don't i'm not saying that this is all the time, but a lot of times we just don't know how to style our new cut or didn't really understand what the vision was that the stylist had. So it is okay to ask questions and i actually think it's really important to ask questions so when you're done, even if you've been there for like an hour and 20 minutes, you're trying to leave after that haircut, ask questions about like how you could style that Hair at home, so that again you can get your money's worth honey because it's a collaboration that makes the best hair because really like your hair, cut your hair style, your hair color, that is art and it's collaborative art, because you're working with someone else to achieve That so ask questions and find someone who you enjoy spending time with and that's going to help you unlock your best hair. Yet, ah, thank you for coming youtube. I hope you're gon na just stop making these mistakes i'm just kidding. I love you all so much and it's beauty, hair, hair care. It'S a lot to navigate out here and i'm just trying to help you out. I love you so much thanks for coming to our youtube channel. We hope you're loving it if you like it, honey. Tell a friend to subscribe, like put it on your twitter, put on your like insta stories or something like tell the folks that we are out here doing youtubes every week having so much fun flip the table. I love you bye. You

Jonathan Van Ness: Like this advice? Well, Professor Van Ness has an entire series called JVN School with lessons galore. And yes, I’m speaking about myself in 3rd person. More JVN School here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0dRCVtZCk1KWOkLGkvQ9IDDXnyNg-NQx

Sara Lorello: GUYS. Could we have a moment to recognize the pure mermaid vibes JVN's top is giving us?? OMG. With the purple background? I am in love. Okay - now I will listen to the hair advice. Carry on!

T-Dawg: Thank you so much for the tip about not slicking back your hair when it’s wet! I do it all the time when it’s freakin’ hot outside and I don’t want to blow dry and have have a lot of those boinky little hairs on top of my head. Will stop immediately!!!

Erin Mabry: I never really thought of getting my hair done as collaborative art, but it is. That's a very insightful way to phrase the process. Before I finally found a stylist who specializes in my texture, getting my hair done was a laborious but necessary chore done with people who came across like they didn't want my hair to be the way it is. I'm so glad it feels good to get a haircut now and I leave the salon smiling.

Michelle: I’m so excited I got my first JVN products today at Sephora! Got the scalp oil and the instant recovery serum and can’t wait to use them. I think it was the passion in your voice that clinched it…”Our scalps must NEVER be ignored!” ☺️❤️☺️❤️

Anna K. Albano Luzardo: number 7 feels awkward but it is VERY important. I just recently got my hair colored and it ended up being double what I initially expected so when I went back to get my haircut with the same girl, I did mention the price I booked for and to make sure that's what I'll be paying and she said yes and it was indeed what I booked for..So, as uncomfortable and awkward it may feel, PLEASE do talk about pricing so thank YOU JVN for bringing this up

Ellyn Seeholzer: Seriously love JVN scalp oil! I took some of your previous advice about double cleansing when shampooing (I do a clarifying shampoo, then currently JVN Embody shampoo) and I am seeing my hair and scalp flourishing over time! My hair (ends, really) always looks best on day 2/3 post wash; I’m using the air dry cream to try to create the wavy texture that my hair chills out into, right on wash day with ok results, my hair just likes to be a little dirty, I guess ‍♀️

Anna D: So I decided to embrace my gray and go natural… had a consult first with my stylist then came back and the appointment was 5 hours. So 100% give your stylist time oh and a HUGE tip ❤️

Courtikarp: I feel very proud of myself that I’m not making any of these mistakes! Woo! Shout out to my hairdresser who is probably the reason. I’ve been seeing her since I was a literal baby. I’m also just going to plug here… JVN products changed my hair life. I always thought my hair was just BORING. It’s straight and doesn’t like to do much without hours of work. I started using some JVN products like the scalp oil, air dry cream and volumizing shampoo. My hair is so.. PRETTY. It’s silky and shiny. I don’t even CARE that it’s stock straight anymore. Go. Go now. BUY THEM. BUY THEM ALL!!

Shelby Wells: Thank you for these! Seriously. I wish the lobby of every salon just ran this cute and wildly educational video of you on repeat! I always learn so much. Thanks again JVN We love you.

Lauren Lopreste: I LOVE how he brings science and facts into hair tips! Finally!! ❤️ thank you JVN will be buying your products

brightphoebus: I dyed my hair and then started growing it out, thinking I could use 10 vol colour on it to match it up as it grew out, but each time I coloured, I overlapped a tiny bit without realizing. Soon I had dyed over 3" of regrowth. They say 10 vol washes out, but the peroxide lightens the hair. SO now I have three zones of hair.: the bleached, the peroxided, and the natural. It's slow going.

Judi Hensley: Will you ever do a video for straight / fine / thin / flat hair? I see so many videos of these beautiful thick heads of hair and just feel sad because I know my hair won’t ever look like that! You are such a positive person i know you could make us flat hair girls and guys feel better!

Tracey Trotter: The biggest hair mistake I ever made was getting covid and losing most of it. No more hair, no more mistakes!

Colleen Joudrey: I find it super tricky to get my hair cut at a salon because the ends always end up super bulky and triangular which just leaves me feeling like I wasted $100. The last few times I have cut my own hair which sofar has turned out pretty good but I also dont trust myself to cut off the 8+ inches that actually should be removed.

C Lee: Yas yas yas to scalp care! A few years ago I began to have eczema flare-ups on my scalp and I went on a deep dive journey to give my scalp some much needed TLC. I still to this day maintain a lot of those practices. Also, LOVING this peacock teal moment you're giving us. Giving me Dalton Castle vibes!

MsBliss: So appreciative of the wisdom you are sharing. You introduced me to Biossance (thank you so much for that!), and I would love, love, love if JVN created flow charts for order of products for different hairstyling needs like Biossance does for skin care routines. So if you want to straighten your hair, blow out your hair, curl your hair, etc, here is the order and the products you use. I am such a novice around how to do my hair and what products (for example was going to try blowing out my hair and assumed air dry cream would help with 'holding' the blow out but then was listening to you here and understood that is not what it is for. This might be so obvious to some but having a visual flowchart for which of your products to grab in what order for different styles would be SUPER helpful for me. Thanks for all you do!

Snufaay: Thank you Jonathan, I always learn something new in your videos! I think the most common hair care mistake I see people do would be the forceful, impatient hairbrushing. A lot of people don't spend the time to detangle their hair gently but then they get disappointed about breakage. QUESTION: Will JVN hair be available in the EU? I've been hypefully waiting for it all these months while watching you use the products in these videos.. aaaaaahh I cant wait anymore! I noticed it's available in the UK now, but to place an order from Germany I would need to pay lots of taxes and shipping cost

Theresa Sestina: Jonathan, this video should be on an ad board in downtown New York City! Everybody should see this! Fantastic common sense, advice and done with love!

Laura Majeski: A video that would help me a lot, as a fine, thin, curly hair gal who can't figure it out ...great haircuts for fine thin curly hair! Everytime I see anything you do it puts a huge smile on my face. Thanks!

Jasmine Palao: Didn't know a lot of these. I especially love love love tip #4 - do not tie knot hair tightly when wet. Thanks for taking time to share care tips all the time! ❤️❤️

Hannah Kunesh: For me, THE BIGGEST, most LIFE CHANGING tip you have shared is having a wet brush when washing hair. Now that I use one, my scalp feels cared for, shampoo and conditioner reach every nook and cranny, and everything rinses so easily. Seriously, I can’t rave enough. I just bought a bunch of JVN hair products and I can’t wait to try them!

readitandbleep: Just wanted to say I started using your shine drops on my ends and my hair is next level now! The shine drops fit in so well to my scalp oil + nurture shampoo/conditioner. I'm def going to try your conditioning mist next time I order.

Busara Firestone: Your channel nourishes me Jonathan! I seriously just let my wavy hair air dry loose every day, but as a hair style novice I'm learning a lot and even tried the curly buns on my daughter - so cute! Gotta get your air dry creme! ☺️

Catherine Gaines: JVN I love you so much!!! Thank you for helping us unlock the best, most fab hair!! I've been using your products for 6 months now and oh my gosh my hair has literally never looked or felt better!!!

Rowan Crane: I have also learned that if you ask your stylist a million billion questions, you'll have such a good understanding of your cut that you can make it look awesome as it grows out between appointments, and won't have that frustration that it doesn't look the same as it did when it was cut 5 weeks ago. Priceless~

Michael Sheppard: My hair has never looked better. I literally do whatever you say. Whole JVN line, silk pillow case, wide tooth comb, all the things. Thanks gurl! P.s. when is the dry shampoo coming #pleasepleaseplease

Sobia Seneviratne: Hi JVN! Thank you so much for this quick question. So I’ve tried so many things on my scalp but it’s so dry. Sometimes visible. Any advice for how to get rid of dry scalp? TIA❤

music54186: I definitely am guilty of the wet slickback and will remand my ways. I'm also a healthcare worker wearing n95s daily and I'm noticing a lot of breakage near my temples/widows peaks. Other than wearing a cloth band to protect my hair, is there anything I can do to prevent breakage? Also how do I style down these flyaway cause I have very long blue hair and it looks a bit disheveled when my braids are perfect. I have your whole hair care line, currently using your scalp oil and repair s/c combo. I love your instant recovery serum and air dry cream, it's all been helping a ton. The length is hydrated and I have gorgeous beach waves after I let my braids out, but I'm struggling with flyaways when I need my hair up and put of my face when I secure for my work in the lab omg love you and thank you for all the tips!! ❤️

Regina Schmidt: Love this and you JVN! I am definitely guilty of slicking my hair back when it’s wet which I will never do again after watching this

Lyndsey Davis: Oh my gosh THANK YOU!!!!!! You have NO IDEA How Much I appreciate all the information and it's SO refreshing to watch a video without having the urge of beating my head against the wall repeatedly! I have been so desperate to just understand what the heck is best, how to take care of it and all that good stuff! I'm stoked YouTube suggested your channel and don't worry, I definitely subscribed!

Valter Gonçalves: First of all I love all your youtube videos! Especially the school of life and, of course, the curly hair tips. Second but most important,, though I know that maybe this isn't the right platform to complement this part of your work, but ADORE, actually I'm FASCINATED with your getting curious podcast. I've learnt so much, and got so many book recommendations from the episodes (I'm listening to the When Viruses Spread... just now). I have to say this, for a queer, non-binary person from Portugal, which is also a science nerd, you are awesome and you make me feel less lonely. I just wish you were shipping your JVN line to Europe! Thank you for being who you are.

marisa b: great vid! such great info for everyone, also shows how much we learn in hair school and how technical it really is that many don't realize.

Tammy Scott: Thank you, Johnathan such great practical advice. Always a great way to start of my day much love

Lizabeth Rodríguez Byers: Thank you for the reminder to try new things out when you have no where to go! I have fully been the one sweaty and running late and STRESSED!

krista_elise: My sister is a stylist and she told me about a client she had once that always slicked her hair back in a ponytail while it was wet, every day. She did not go to a stylist for years and when she took her hair down for the appointment her hair was mouldy where the elastic was, since it never ever dried.

Randi Lynn: I just love to listen to you! Thank you for being exactly as you are Jonathan! You have opened my eyes to so much regarding hair but also you are just such a bad ass. You give so much loveliness and heart felt authenticity. Thank you for everything you contribute, because what you are doing is changing the gosh darn freaking world!

Leu: Hi JVN! What do you recommend for people that get acne on their scalp? I'm worried about using scalp oil because it might make it worse.

Claud ia: Johnathan, thank you You inspire me to take better care of myself and be more self expressive! Curious to know how to take care of the community of grays that have made my head home! Would love a segment on that! The world is better with you in it Thanks boo

Rise of the Jimmy: Thank you Jonathan, this video is great and I will now be looking after my scalp and trying your scalp oil. Am really grateful for your sharing of your hair expertise (plus you have same type of hair as mine, fine and curly) and your brilliantness on Queer Guy x

Analy S: My love it took me 3 years to grow out my grey hair, always kept it long, still long down to my back and it’s the very best thing I ever did. I tone it once every 4/6 months , really every 6 months my stylist it almost three hours away from me. Highly recommend everything you suggested, plus letting go of dye, ladies be you, my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. My hair is layered softly and I have curly hair, I have the best of both worlds ! Talk about us grey hair ladies in your next context ! Xoxo

Rachel K: Omg! I did wet ponytail a few weeks ago and my hair is already brittle. thanks for letting me know about this warning. I will never do a wet ponytail again.

Danielle Kimberly: Hey Jonathan! I have a question! So I haven’t had long hair in over 8 years and I decided to grow it out because I wanted a change. However it’s now quite long and I find when I wake up in the morning the ends of my hair are a bit frizzy, dry looking and not smooth. A bit of info about My hair is that it’s fine but there’s lots of it and it’s colour treated. I wear my hair down before I go to bed and use a silk pillowcase. Is there anything I can do to help with my hair to feel and look better?

sidhedanu: I cut off about 6 inches every year with the occasional 1-2 inch trim to keep the ends healthy, and I grew it from bra-strap length to classic (top of thigh) in 4 years. I've actually taken it back up to waist because the weight was too much. Anyway. So I've got great hair, but I don't know what to do with it. I've never met a stylist who could do anything with it. It's stubborn. Takes many many hours to dry no matter how short. Will not bend to a heat tool and product. Yet is wavy as hell when wet. Very very thick with a mix of thin strands & medium sized strands. Advice? I want hair with a little volume even if it doesn't keep the waves. Usually I just bun it, since I figured out how to do that with a hairstick a few years ago. It has to be long enough to do that, though - waist is the shortest it can be. (That’s not me in the avatar)

Vicky The Viking: Omg I've been doing number 4 daily for years (just because I'm too lazy to dry my hair before putting it back).... And now I know why my hair is constantly frizzy and broken despite best efforts. Thank you!!

Seva M.: I've just begun taking actual care of my hair since I had my hair bleached for the first time in January. Would you consider doing something similar directed for bleach-damaged / colored hair?

Dalia Sora: I just got JVN scalp oil and air dry cream, so excited to try both

Alayna Jordan: Jonathan!! I have bad breakage and my hair is so frizzy with flyaways! I only air dry/towel dry, rarely use curlers or flat irons, and I don't use elastic bands. Are there any other tips you'd recommend to avoid breakage?

Jana A: Thank you for the tips! I always bring a photo, and it helps a lot! (Guilty of slicking my wet hair back!)

Gloria_Ch.: Curly girl hair here and I did #4-wet pony for like a decade now I’m regretting it with my soul! Can you do a video on how to restore/heal breakage especially in thin wavy hair? I feel like just chopping off my mid waist length and starting over but now that you shared how long it takes to grow idk what to do with my life

Sierra Hunter Lewis: Heyyyyy honey I'm 56 and I am LEARNING from YOU On a side note, your ENERGY reminds me SO much of my own. People always wanted to confine me and or define me. And I see you living your best life, that gives me strength to be true to my heart and to my spirit! For this AND HAIR CARE I THANK YOU

Ro Guerra: I’m loving your hair! And I love your tips! Their extremely helpful. Love you!

Sue M: I think this is my favourite one yet! ESPECIALLY the one about styling a ponytail with wet hair- a million percent I thought those slicked back ponies were wet hair. I have a question - is it ok to plait (braid) your hair when it’s wet?

J H: I’d like to know how to deal with thin, fine hair that is frizzy and dry. Oils completely make it worst

Mia Tarp: I'm guilty of number 6, I went from natural blonde hair to a bit darker ombre/copper/red ish ombre, and now it's red/pink/purple and I love it BUT it is very high maintenance and it's a lot of money and time with my stylist

Angela Hall: I remember mom perming my hair in high school, 35 yrs ago, lol. And, she left the processing on too long and my hair broke off in several places and left my with patches and curl rod length stubble. It was the day before prom even. Needless to say, I had a fro

Bex Smith: What product types/hair care would you suggest if my collarbone length hair is mostly straight, but sticks together at the ends and has the *tiniest* amount of wave/flip at the ends? It also feels tangled if I don’t brush it periodically throughout the day. I never learned how to take care of my hair and I was raised to just treat it like it’s straight, but the longer it gets, the more the ends want to curl. Is there a way to see if your hair is actually straight or if it’s supposed to be curly and I’ve just been neglecting it? (I have never dyed my hair and I rarely use heat on it too. I normally just let it air dry).

Helen Smith: Hi Jonathan, love your products! Could I just mention though, the tubes are very hard to get the product out of especially when half way through, would you or are you considering to change this to make it easier?

salsasangria: Hi Johnathan! Would you ever do a video on repairing hair after colour/heat damage?

Margaret Ashley: I just love this person. Thank the powers that be for bringing JVN to our lives!

Skatejock21: my sister is a hair stylist and I spent a lot of time being her hair school dummy. So when she finished school and I was going off to school, far from home. We both began worrying about my roots because I was blond. Instead of just letting it grow out and show roots. She didn't permanent dye my whole head again but she added a colour close to my natural brunette, so that as it grew out, it would look more ombre and not show roots. It worked well because I couldn't get a haircut until I got home. I haven't actually coloured my hair since. Then when I moved again and had to find another hair stylist. She had asked me if I had natural hair or if I coloured it. She guessed it was natural because of how soft it was to her. My first appointment with her was just sheer luck. She was the owner and master stylist in the salon who just happened to have a cancellation that day. The reception girls said that rarely happens to her schedule but it was all they had when I called if there was an opening. She did a consult/hair cut in the same day. Since I really didn't need much but we both determined a look that would appeal to my job. I let her know when I had coloured it prior and she goes "oh its been a few years, that colour is long gone now". When she had students at her salon, I guess I was a good example for her to use. Since she would tell these students in front of me. How I came to the salon and what I was looking for and "this is what natural hair feels like". She would explain how a consult worked and what I came in initially looking for and why I wanted and needed a simple cut. She was telling them that not all clients will be over the top in what they want. That you need to know what they do for a job and why they need to look a certain way. It was a neat experience for me as her client too.

thefoxyactress: I literally can’t not smile while watching your videos! ❤️

Privada Coffee: Love all these tips!!!! Just used my JVN air dry cream for the first time today

Tala Arman: Lol I was eyeing off your blow out from the beginning. And YES THANK YOU!! Make the time for your stylist to make sure we have the to ensure we can give you what you came for love! ❤ we so badly want you to LOVE your hair

Kitten Tyles: My scalp and hair are absolutely THRIVING with your scalp oil! I am hooked on all things JVN now!

empercat: Omg I'm sooo scared of scalp oil bc I have crazy dandruff and always heard conditioner and stuff like that will make it worse!! I swear I'll stop putting my hair back while it's wet IMMEDIATELY lol

Liesl Ray: I just adore you Jonathan. Could you be any more awesome? Nope, not possible. THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU!

Maggie: I love this video. It is so helpful! Thank you so much!

Sarah Anne Francis: I thought I knew how to dry my hair until my stylist told me my hair was still wet when I went to her for curls. Got there and she told me my hair was still wet. I was under the impression I had totally dried it.

Sarandipity In The Stars (Sarah's Smile): I live for JVN hair care!! It is life changing!! Love you Jonathan!! xoxoxo

sweeperchick: 06:44 Wish I'd had someone to give me this advice when I dyed my hair black in 2006. It took YEARS to get back to my natural color. My mom hated it and told me I looked anemic.

Laura Fleischmann: My questions are A. Why does it feel like a lot of my hair comes out in the shower?, B. They say it's normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day?, C. At that rate/at the rate I see my hair coming out in the shower I always panic that I'm going to have a bald patch in a week but it never comes to that - how? Should I stop panicking? When should I start panicking? OH and also if you're not supposed to strain your hair when it's wet then why is it good to comb conditioner through it in the shower? :)

Jill Isenberg: Such useful information! Would you ever consider doing a video on how hair changes as we age and how we care for our hair should change as we age?

Suzanne: Great video, you've made me realise that I should take better care of my scalp! I wish I could purchase the JVN pre-wash scalp oil in Europe! Do you have any recommendations for an alternative?

Donna Kaye: I just got my hair done last week, but had to go back in because the lowlights caused my highlights to be blotchy, my stylist was was looking at my hair, and said she didn’t want to put anything on my hair because it was breaking really bad underneath (in the Mohawk area) it looks awful to me because I’ve never had hair this short. I’ve been using the scalp oil and I love it. Will this help with the breaking??? Any other suggestions please!!! Love your videos and you as well!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Valerie Moitoso: Hi Jonathan, Your hair looks gorgeous!! I have a question—why do some shampoos after you wash and rinse leave your hair a tangled mess? I do use your leave in conditioner and hair serum Love them

Cristina Camacho S: I’ve tried talking to my hairstylist but they make some kind of face like saying “I’m not here talk” so I feel so discourage talking to them ☹️ I still haven’t find one that really gets me, but I’ll keep trying! Thanks for the advice!

thesk8rwhosaidseeyal8r: I dyed my hair pink and had it for about a year and a half, until deciding I wanted to go back to my natural color. I'm a natural dark/dirty blonde, almost brunette. When I went to my hairdresser, I went in at 6 and didn't leave until almost 5 hours and 200 dollars later when my hair was much darker than before because it was impossible to get my hair back to it's natural color. Nowadays I have my natural, beautiful, healthy hair back but it took a lot of work and commitment and money to get it that way. TLDR, if you decide to dye your hair (ESPECIALLY a fashion color like I did) think it through for MONTHS and decide if you are willing to put in the effort to maintain that hair and keep it even semi healthy, and even then it probably won't be very healthy again for about 6 months to a year (in my experience and my hair type)

Haley Anderson: Bestie, I love your air dry cream but I seem to get a lot of frizz when I use it my hair’s actually more of a 2b when I thought forever that it was a 1b/1c, but I ✨struggle✨ with frizz, especially the day of/after I wash it (wash once a week). H E L P

The Gnome: What about using a wet comb after applying conditioner, I always gently run my fingers thru the tangles but I also flip my hair over and gently comb it thru with a wet comb. I recently went blonde (slowly over time with my stylist) just trying to make my hair as healthy as possible. Your products have helped this along, you can tell a lot of thought and research went into them.

Ina van der Leden: Hi Jonathan! I have a question, so I have quite a dry scalp (which I have for lord knows what lol), do you have some tips for someone that has a dry scalp? Btw love your videos, it always makes my day❤️

Vicki Brock: I wish I could like my hair enough to do any of these things, but it makes me so sad that I have not even been able to so much as walk into a salon in about 10 years. It gets too long, I put it in a pony tail and cut it off. I despise my hair, and the mirrors everywhere in salons make me so uncomfortable. :(

Crunchy: Jonathan! How do you feel about scalp scrubs (salt, charcoal, coffee grounds, anything I can find, etc..) ? I have scars on my scalp and it helps keep my scalp clean (sorry TMI) but I find my hair feels wrecked after. What about scalp mud masks? Would that work? A scalp facial? I have thin fine curly hair.

Julie Ann Fae Healing: JVN is my hair fairygaymother and I’m here for every minute of it

MrRMD32: Any suggestions to slow down, reduce, or reverse thinning hair? Over the last few years my hair has changed so much and I'm started to bald on my crown. I don't wear hats, that's he only suggestion I have received from my hair dresser. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Dizzle: NOBODY ever says how much california dryness makes your hair look amazing. I'm from Florida and Me, my girlfriend, and family went to Yosemite for a week. The second day we were there we all noticed each others hair "my gawd you look... amazing right now...". We were used to the humidity where we have the frizz problem. Its honestly not fair. My hair suffers humidarily

Maeve Broderick: wow i must say i was expecting like really pricey products for what you're offering and i'm shocked at how affordable everything is

Print Me A Coupon: It is always a happier day when you post a video. Thanks Johnathan.

natgars: Jonathan your energy is everything!! Thanks for being such a light!

Meagan Koenning: I turn 30 next year and I've noticed my hair thinning the past few years, which is exactly what happened to my mother. What do I do? Where do I start? Any tips for thinning, wavy hair?

Emma Quinlan: I brought pictures to the last hair consultation and the stylist told me that he didn't need to see it... needless to say my hair cut was boring AF

Isabela Trumble: I am curious what you'd recommend to help with scalp pain (scalp hurts when I move my hair). I have a pretty neutral scalp not too oily not too dry. Why does my hair hurt a day or two after wash? Would scalp oil help? Do I need a scalp cleanser? Thanks!

ariela023: Do you have tips for transitioning from color treated hair back to natural hair? (Knowing this will take years)

grace smith: Can you please do a dos and donts with hair extensions please!! And how to care for 'semi permanent' extensions please!!

Ceri Ann Hughes: Well thank you for these tips, especially the one with putting hair back in pony tail when wet. I will be stopping doing this in future didnt realize its actually damaging the hair folicles. Love your videos they are so informative and you are fun and funny. Just wanted to ask are you products cruelty free? And also i am thinking of growing my brunette hair colour out and just want like long hair. For me to have long hair how would i achieve this? Thank you ❤ x

Rachel Hightops: Jonathan! Is it proper to use your air dry cream with the sleep-in no-heat hair curlers?

Natalie Uygan: Thank you thank you !!!! I have made so many of these mistakes! Omg! Now I know how to NOT do it again !!! Love you!! you’re the best !

Esther Shushan Spikes: I love you Jonathan I’m so happy you made a YouTube channel and a real, hair beauty line i can trust

Jamie DiRaimo: Love watching your videos. I just shared it with my sister.

Steven Jamieson: There is advice in this video for absolutely everyone!! Now, don't mind me while I hide in a dark corner for how many times I've brushed my wet hair into a ponytail.
