Hi beautiful before we talk about what bond builder actually is we need to talk about what the hair strand is made out of, so that bond builders make more sense. So, let's do it all right? Let'S talk about the inner workings of a hair strand now this is deep deep in there. This is what we're gon na see when we're deep inside of a hair strand, it's gon na, be these swirly bits which are polypeptide chains of amino acids. Those are little bubbles with things in between linking them and we can just call them polypeptide chains, all right, it's pretty easy, and then in between those chains, we have three different kinds of bonds and they can go in all different directions in between those polypeptide chains And those three bonds consist of disulfide bonds, salt bonds and hydrogen bonds, so we need both of those structures in place to have healthy hair. We need those polypeptide chains, looking fine as hell, and we also need those bonds in between them to stay in place. Looking nice and cute, so everything can be looking gorge right, that's basically the gist of it. Now let me know those three different categories: let's talk about how each of these bonds are broken because that's important disulfide bonds can be broken down by bleach or chemical services. Salt bonds can be damaged by sudden ph imbalances and we're not going to get into ph today. If you don't understand the ph scale. Well, that's a whole other class. It'S not really important for you to understand completely just know that your ph of your hair can be thrown off balance and that's not good for your bones and then there's hydrogen bonds that can be damaged by excess, moisture and heat. So, with all the bond building products on the market, do they all repair every single, different type of bond in the hair? That'S a great question and it's not completely clear because mostly all of these bond building products, if not all of them, are patented ingredients, which means you don't exactly know. The real ins and outs of the ingredient most make general statements about how they work and we all have a somewhat surface level, understanding of them, but not every detail is clear. What we do know, though, is that most of these products repair all three of these bonds in your hair, so disulfide salt bonds and hydrogen bonds, which is great. So there are many different categories of bond builders on the market. I'M sure we've all heard of many different things like olaplex and k 18 specifically, but these all do different things in some way or another and it gets very confusing very quickly. So i'm not gon na like overdo it here. I'M gon na give you the surface level understanding of things. There are bond building products that actually go into your bleacher into your colors. While your hair is processing and those bonds are being broken down, there is that product to then multiply those bonds and create new ones and restructure and fortify the existing ones, so that your hair is not as damaged as it would have been without them, then we Have treatment products: these are things that stay in your hair for like five minutes, 10 minutes 20 minutes an hour and then our rinse out or sometimes they're blow dried in your hair and give you longer lasting results. And then there are kind of everything in between all the hair care products, there's shampoos or conditioners of oils, creams, anything and everything you could possibly imagine foam styling products, and these are kind of like your maintenance bond building products and the reason why you need kind Of the range of things is because, first of all, you're going to encounter a lot of damage when you're lightening your hair or you're coloring it. So you really want to help that situation and then, when your hair is damaged from say, hot tools or excessive amounts of heat applied to your hair, you're really going to want to repair that hair structurally from the inside out with a nice long treatment. That is going to really latch into your hair and last a long time and then the rest of the products are there to help you through the day-to-day damage that happens to your hair. You wash your hair, your break and bonds. You blow dry, it you're breaking bonds. Everything and everything can damage the internal structure and weaken the hair fiber, and also note that not all of these products work on this same exact category. Some of them can work on the polypeptide chains and the bonds that link them. Some work on all three different kinds of bonds to build them and repair them, or you can have ones that only focus on one specific type of bond or just work on the polypeptide chains. There'S a lot to it. It gets deep, but i want to relieve some stress now, i'm sure you're, like brad all right. If all of them are working on different things now not all of them are created equal well, what the hell! How do i know and how do i pick the right one for me, the thing is what i would say just pick one: don't over complicate it for yourself unless you want to spend a good week or so really understanding every single product on the market and What they have to offer because they can be vastly different and all have extremely difficult to understand science to back them up. So if you don't want to get a quick degree in chemistry, then i recommend just picking one go with a brand. You really like go with a brand. You trust and feel confident in those people have put in time and effort to really understand what they're putting in their product and give you a product. That'S going to be good for your hair. The great part about bond builder is that you can't go wrong with them. They aren't going to damage your hair. They aren't gon na be bad for your hair. So if you pick at least one product with bond builder in it, you are going to be benefiting some part of your hair or every single part of your hair. As long as you work this bond building product into your routine, it's gon na benefit you. So don't confuse yourself too much and try to understand the entire chemistry behind why this product works, unless you really really want to, and if you're wondering, if you would benefit from a bond building product, i would say yes across the board. Every single person who has hair can benefit from a bond building product. It is not just for people who have bleached chemically damaged hair, though it is great for them. You can also use this if you have luscious healthy hair, everybody has some kind of damage in one way or another. We all go outside every day. We all wash our hair. Most of us use hot tools and there's just so many different ways of damaging your hair, so anybody and everybody can benefit from a bond building product. And lastly, if you know a lot about this subject and want to help some people in the comments below i'm sure, there's going to be so many questions. So let's all help each other out. Let'S start the conversation right down below and let's get talking and of course, if you guys want to check out my two brand new bond building products, my recalibrate leave in cream and calibrate treatment, you can do so now they are officially available along with my iconic Recalibrate, shampoo and conditioner these work on the bonds. Gena Marie: And for curly hair, bond builders make the hair appear curlier and spring up better

Susanna McElveen: As a hairstylist, I find the differences between all the various "bonding" products really confusing. Some claim repair disulfide bonds. Some claim to create new bonds. Some claim to strengthen existing bonds. Like, wtf is the difference between repairing and creating a disulfide bond??? And the worst part is that most brands don't want to go into detail about how their products work in order to protect their brand secrets. Which is frustrating because when a client asks the difference between two, I dont know how to articulate it. I wish brands were more upfront with the science behind their products and didn't just feed us retail lines to use with our clients.

Rose Martin: I frickin love this dude. He’s so down to earth and educational . Talk to me like a normal person not a scientist. Thank you and I’m buying your products because I’m sure you know what you’re talking about .

Don't Read My Profile Photo: We can all agree that he never disappoints us with his content ⁦❤️⁩

Renee Hare: After a bleach incident at a salon that led to me having to shave my head (and now naturally grey with virgin hair) - I switched to the entire Olaplex line (3-9 plus their purple shampoo) 3 years ago after years of neglecting my hair…and even with tons of heat styling my hair is definitely healthy as hell. Olaplex can’t be beat AFAIC.

ArtyBicardi: Quick tips for anybody who uses k18, Wash your hair with a good shampoo and skip the conditioner! Also get you a mist spray bottle, put 6-8 pumps in it fill half way with bottled water, and shake, once its mixed add the rest of the water to fill it. You can get so much better bang for your buck this way and still get the same affects!

Savannah Smith: For those wanting to buy an Olaplex product and not having the money to buy a few of them, I personally had hair with a lot of frizz and after buying and using only one bottle of the number 3 and using it once per week (having it last for 2-3 months easily) my hair has COMPLETELY changed. Just a quick rough dry and it is softer, silkier and much shinier than when I would dry it properly for a night out! It’s a major difference :)

Manda Gunter: The hard part about “just picking one” is the price. All this junk is expensive, and we broke!

M R: Target has an Olaplex dupe line called Reflex. I use their shampoo and conditioner and I find it helps. Sally also has an Olaplex dupe for bond building whilst colouring in the Ion line. That's also amazing (and they have a red remover that's better than anything in the market IMO).

dswhit64: I ordered your entire wavy/curly hair product line this week. I can’t wait to try them! I have thick, wavy hair and I’m old. I don’t have any natural grey hair yet so I want my hair to look good as long as possible (my nice hair is the only thing I have as far as looks). Hoping for the best

LymeValkyrie: Is there anyone else out there whose brain craves full comprehension of the nuance of everything? Was hoping this would at least be a "if you're experiencing ________" or "if your hair has ________ issue then I recommend trying ________" My brain expects too much sometimes.

Ria Rose: Bruh I’m in cos school & this explanation is the probably the most I’ve understood in terms to all the chemistry that goes into hair care etc that they taught us … I love you thank you!!

Katey Peterson: Love informative videos like this!

Rebecca Best: Glad I watched this since I just bought the Olaplex bond builder ; I just wanted to strengthen my hair but didn’t have any idea what it actually did . Thanks Brad !!

Enigma1990ad: Damn Brad looking fierce AF! in this video. I'm not even into hair and I love his content just by how passionate, energetic and informative he is on the topic. Keeps me company while I still work from home.

Chastity Howell: Having the worst day ever and considering dyeing my hair. Best way to feel better? Watch a Brad Mondo video. Literal sunshine and so, so smart.

EmMystery: For those using Elumen as permanent haircolor. Know you can't use Olaplex (N°1 & N°2) because the molecules don't work with the color technology of Elumen by Goldwell. The N°3 is fine because it's only 10% of concentration. N°1 is 100% and N°2 is 50%. You can only buy N°3 in retail stores anyway. If your hairdresser uses the N°1 & N°2 on your hair, it won't work. (Tip : N°3 must be put between the shampoo and the conditioner BUT you need to redo a shampoo after rinsing it and then you put the conditioner. But weirdly you can sleep with it at night. Usually repair treatments can't stay longer than the time listed on the product. But don't forget to redo a shampoo after. I know it's weird but it's to stop the process, I had an Olaplex representative giving me a course about this in 2017). Know also that Smartbond by l'Oréal Professional also won't work. You hair will look so brittle and dry after. It tangles. The only complex working I found is Fibreplex by Schwarzopf Professional. It works pretty much the same as Olaplex :)

Krystina Stark: What gets me the most is that every other product says "bond builder" but they don't specify what bonds they are building; there are only 3! Salt and Hydrogen bonds are both temporary bonds anyway and will likely correct themselves. Olaplex is the only product on the market that repairs the permanent bonds: disulfide bonds. I tried Brazilian Bond Builder, but it's mostly just oils and seems to coat the hair more than "build bonds." K18 was a great styling product for me (if INSANELY expensive), but I saw ZERO long term benefits after more than a month of daily use. The smell was great though, just not worth the $$$. In my professional opinion, Olaplex is the only one that has tangible, long-lasting hair benefits.

YukonRoseinLV: I've been using K18. After bleaching multiple times this year (8-10 weeks apart) my hair was unhappy and the Olaplex products just weren't fixing anything, so I decided to try K18. It took 4 uses for me to see results, but they were pretty major once I saw them. My hair is no longer mushy when wet, I can now comb and brush it when dry, and my wave pattern is starting to come back. It still tangles just as badly as it ever did, but since that's been my whole life, I doubt anything is going to help that. I'm not crazy about how you have to apply it (dry hair to 65%, apply, wait 4 minutes, then do whatever you want) because I usually apply all my products to wet hair, then scrunch dry before plopping. Instead I have to do all that, then rewet and do my normal routine, which adds time. At least I'm now on the maintenance schedule, so it won't be as time intensive. Big picture, this stuff works, or at least it did for my overprocessed, fine, wavy, hair.

Model Jenna Lynn: I personally love the redken acidic bonding line. It makes my hair feel so healthy

blacK stonY rosE: LOVE your hair in this video Brad. It's beautiful. Love this video too... I can imagine this being sown on Day 1 on any hairstyling course.

mikki laurice: Okay, okay, okay…. Deep conditioning vs protein treatment vs bond builder??? What’s the difference and can you over do any of them?

Lori Parent: Thank you Brad for explaining this to us "non" hair stylists!! You never ever disappoint in any and every of your videos!!

Banana Tati: Omg thank you so much for making this video! I've been trying to understand what bond builders actually are

Xochitl Sandoval: Disulfide bonds can also temporarily be broken by heat. Hence, flat ironing and blow drying.

Peni-o-te-rangi: I had bleach damaged hair and my hairdresser recommended I use the gold well bond repair shampoo and conditioner as well as the 60sec goldwell bond repair treatment mask. It was worth the splurge! My hair feels a lot smoother and looks healthier. I feel a lot better about the condition of my hair while I work towards cutting off the damage and growing out my hair

Ginny Phoenix: Awesooooome! I need more of these vids they are so fun and informative ! <3 Thank you for taking some of your precious time and to share with us such important things about the hair structure! <3

Rochelle Ballah: You’re on time for me, i relaxed my virgin 4b/4c hair at home yesterday and everything went great. I’m gonna look into some bond builders

-[EMMA] H0T Girl-C0me 0ver L!ve: I frickin love this dude. He’s so down to earth and educational . Talk to me like a normal person not a scientist. Thank you and I’m buying your products because I’m sure you know what you’re talking about .

Aziellis: Bless you Brad ❤️ I always hear about bonding products for hair, but had no clue what all the fuss was about. You came through with a quick and comprehensive approach about the topic. I've getting more into hair care because of your channel. Love your YouTube channel

Tara Kennedy: I really feel like since Olaplex came onto the scene everything has "plex" in the title and claims to do the same thing and they absolutely do not do the same thing.

Xtina: I would love to check out Brad's products if they were available in Australia

Anne: THANK YOU! I've been a stylist for a long time and I really needed this video. Please talk to me about cuticle sealants next

Mariya 0ver L!ve: As a hairstylist, I find the differences between all the various "bonding" products really confusing.

Jane Doe: All I know is I love what olaplex does to my hair. A friend likes the Redkin bond product better. I have fine hair and hers is more cource

Crystal Bushman: I just started using the 4-product Recalibrate set and have already noticed a lot of improvement! And take my word for it, this stuff smells AMAZING I can’t wait to see how much better my hair feels as I keep using Brad’s products. *Hair type - curly, color-treated for years, constantly flat-ironed*

TMM: I am a high end kind of gal. But, I really love the L'Oreal Elvive bond building masks. They even have a leave in for thin and thick hair.

CaliH Han: I have a question. My hair is pretty dry and frizzy and it's breaking fast. I tried the whole olaplex at home routine including shampoo and everything. Used them as recommend. But even after weeks there was NO DIFFERENCE at all. Even my hairstylist said he didn't see any change I literally cried, because I spent so much money in hopes of finding something my hair can benefit from. What did I do wrong? I wash 5-6 times a week, because of work out and my work (I sweat a lot). No heat, styling products only of I go out, coloring every once in a while.

Rocket Queen: I literally went to buy some hair care stuff for myself, I never really cared about what shampoo I used but my hair got pretty dry after dying it for the first time, so I went to buy colour shampoo and conditioner and saw all those different gels, creams, oils, I must’ve looked so confused and lost lol this cleared up some things

Liza_Official: LOVE your hair in this video Brad. It's beautiful. Love this video too... I can imagine this being sown on Day 1 on any hairstyling course.

Liza_Official: Bruh I’m in cos school & this explanation is the probably the most I’ve understood in terms to all the chemistry that goes into hair care etc that they taught us … I love you thank you!!

Queen Momma: I love love love love brad mondo!!! He has made me feel good about my hair again with all of his videos on hair products.

Monica Evie: I work at Sally’s and people have been asking me about OLAPLEX for days. Thank you for this video!! It just goes to show that you when it comes to hair products and knowledge, things are always changing. Now I can help to better inform customers. Thank you Brad !!!!

Hannah Boe Banna: i want these, and i want to support you because you not only educated me about hair, and always have, but your genuine passion lights me up. i’m doing no-buy July (also hard times) but you bet in August i’m ordering!! ♡♡♡

Liza_Official: Omg thank you so much for making this video! I've been trying to understand what bond builders actually are

・your non favorite person 👍・: I frickin love this dude. He’s so down to earth and educational . Talk to me like a normal person not a scientist. Thank you and I’m buying your products because I’m sure you know what you’re talking about .

Liza_Official: I frickin love this dude. He’s so down to earth and educational . Talk to me like a normal person not a scientist. Thank you and I’m buying your products because I’m sure you know what you’re talking about .

Alternative Princess: I just used actual bleach on my hair for the first time. I'm thinking I'm going to need some bond building XD but on thr bright side, thanks to this channel, my hair is almost perfect :)

Sandy Eusanio: Love your products and love your videos I have learned so much by just watching them. Thank you so much for making them looking forward to seeing and learning more

Werewolf Winter: Omg I swear he read my mind. Just the other day I was thinking it would be cool to see Brad make a hair science video looking at hair under a microscope and comparing healthy vs bleached and/or damaged hair!

Alex G: I love Olaplex. I get my hairdresser to order me the proffesional-only, the No. 1 step, to use at home, too. I go to sleep with it in and my hair comes out nicer than before the damage

Siobhan MacAndrew: so refreshing to see you in educator mode - very authoritative - more of this type of content please! but dont stop being godlike and gorge too!

Lauren C.: I love when Brad talks all smart and professional to us

King Azaz: I've been using Olaplex shampoo and conditioner for years now. I like it. I have lavender hair so I guess it helps maintain my color longer. I've been thinking about trying out Brad's though

Marymation: as a biologist, I just love when Brad gets all geeky

Kipitaakii: YAS! YAS! YASSSS!!!! I can’t even begin to explain how much the misinformation irks the hairstylist in me. I’m so glad that you shared this!

Laura Wolfe: As a science student, I think this was a great balance of facts and simplicity. Well done!

Brittany Yow: Brad your videos never disappoint me ever, I actually learn more than I did in cosmetology school years ago but it was in high school lol I’m willing to learn even more definitely. Love you, your hair is beautiful too you get hotter and sexier each video I see too ❤️

Yuganshi gupta: U gotta believe me Brad is the besttt hairdresser✨I can't stop watching his videos❤️

PatriciaFerenz: I have read some reviews on Olaplex 3 where people said it made their hair worse. I have some and I'm afraid to try it! Could it be that they should of had moisturizing treatment instead?

sweetkoolkatje: Thank you for this video! Living for your educational content <3

lexie summers: I love olaplex I’ve been getting my hair highlighted for over a year and I had black box dye and ya know how that goes lmao if my hair stylist didn’t use it on me then my hair would be just done with, I’ll never go back to any other shampoo lmao

Koroknai Ildikó Stefi: Well, yesterday I used Olaplex No. 2 for the first time ever. I have 2C (and a bit of 3A) hair and I wanted to strenghten my curls before the next dye. I haven't seen any miracles yet but my curls need 1-2 days of dirt to give their best so I'm still curious. One thing is sure, my hair is really soft now but I like it less. In our CGM-following community we often order a big bottle (2 litres) of Olaplex 2, then distribute it into 100-200 ml portions and post it to each other, so it's far cheaper. ☺️

Karen Thomas: Love your channel. When is the UK going to have access to your hair products? Id love to try them!

Tish: Brad! When are you going to ship xmondo internationally?! I am from Australia and have been dying to use your hair products since day 1!!

Raleigh Noel: I was using bond building keratin shampoo and conditioner from Schwarzkopf, and it made me have such dull and heavy hair. I might have frizzy hair now but I love a good floofy bounce over always heavy hair. Just me?

Lauren Bird: I suffer heat damage really easily. I’ve been using the playlet hair mask, would this be most suitable? I don’t colour my hair or anything, it just is so easily affected by heat

Heni Gömöri: Thank you Brad Btw i love the olaplex conditioner, mask and leave in

Special K: Brad, I love your videos. You’re always informative and so down to earth. And you’re so beautiful. No you’re not beautiful, you’re debonair

thegreenmanofnorwich: I like Lab Muffin's olaplex video ad she's a cosmetic chemist with a knack for really explaining things well.

Trifilaki: I'm so glad this channel introduced me to Olaplex, my hair feels like hair again! (Your products are not available in this country)

Devan McElveen: Brad!!! I just have to tell you that I am LOVING your hair You look AMAZING!!!!!

Laura Blues: Just ordered the ones from Schwarzkopf to give them a go, because I bleach my hair a lot to play with different colors all the time. I will accept advice from anyone!

DIY‘s for sanity God bless: I added the daily use bond oil to my lighter by olaplex I never got one piece of breakage and I have fine then grey curly hair. So very happy

Trauma Queen: I still cannot wait for an XMondo lightener and developer. ❤️ something for us to use your bond builder on

allison soltis: Love this. Brad, I have a request. Please make lime highlighter green and deep blood red into hair colors. Thank you

CeeCee: Loving your root shadow Brad, looks great!

vvἷҭƈђ: not too much of a question pertaining the topic of this video, however, my hair is oddly thick at the ends but kinda thin at the top. whenever I try to put it up it creates lines of bald spots especially when it gets oily. my hair is roughly 2c to 3a wave/curls (major heat damage for years) and if any hair specialist or anyone who may have experience could give a few tips how to fix/cover it up would be appreciated !

Jheri Engdahl: Kerastase Resistance literally transformed my damaged hair a year ago. It grew 12 inches in a year by using their entire Resistance product line. I’m talking bain, soin, mask, oil serum, and root serum. I can never go back to ordinary shampoos without bond ingredients again.

Shqipe Rugova: I have seen so many girls trying the products for curly hair, and they are aaallll so happy and satisfied with the results! I have naturally curly hair 3b/3c! But I can't buy the line for curly hair because there is no shipping to my country :(

Khalilah D.: Not Brad making organic chemistry seem easy. Where was he when I needed a tutor last semester

Emms Lima: How often should one go about using a bond builder like olaplex? I hear different things from different hair dressers!

Christine Sch: Omg I love you, but I’m glad your hair is looking beautiful again. Love the roots & this current style. Anyway just an opinion.

Sophie Claxton: I think you should bring back Brad mondo make overs you changed so many peoples life's and made such a difference you have such amazing products and talents lotta love Brad mondo ❤️

brooksley waggz: Hey brad hope your having a great day!I love your videos

Jessica Thomas: Brad, your products have changed my life and I just wanted to say thank you! My hair has NEVER felt or looked better and I get so many compliments on how beautiful and shiny it is. Recalibrate line, Hydrating Glow and Viper for the win! I’m also now trying the detox and hydrate shampoos/conditioners and love them as well! I love your products so much that I got my mom and best friend the same products I use for their birthdays….I’m trying to spread your love ❤️

liviutza08: Are bond builders “curly girl ” friendly? I have natural hair + some white/grey parts… however my long hair gets sooo tangled no matter what mask, conditioner or oils I use :( Would really appreciate if someone could help :) Is it me or does Brad get more and more beautiful? UPDATE: I found out Olaplex 0 and 3 are “curly approved” as they don’t have silicones thus will not weigh your hair down (this being one of the problem with these products). And also I understand Olaplex 3 to be the best for repairing as it is most concentrated. So I started using O3 and it works great especially for my blond, dry ends. I don’t use expensive shampoo or conditioner or masks ( I find middle priced to be extra good) and so I can afford to invest in Olaplex (the best on the market, I understand)! Hope it helps

The Original Jayme: I've never been so amused while learning science stuff. Great information!

Court: Perfect timing! My hairdresser just recommended me to get a bond builder/ repairing product

Gena Ervin: I know my hair likes Olaplex 0, 3, and 4 but seems to hate all the conditioners. It does like the Amika conditioners, though. I might have to try Recalibrate and see if it likes that more.

GothicConservative: I’m going to the store tomorrow to buy a treatment for my hair, because I also take chemotherapy medication which makes my hair very brittle in fallout easier.I’m experiencing a lot of breakage and dryness on the bottom, but oily on top easily, does anyone recommend a good hair product for that? I need a good heat protector too lord I hope y’all see this… I really need advice and help. ☹️

Claira-𝐹**СК МЕ - СНЕ𝒞𝒦 𝑀𝒴 Р𝑅𝟢𝐹𝐼𝐿Е: Love informative videos like this!

MSUSPARTANS 1995: He explained this so well.

NOLA⚜️𝔖𝔲𝔫🌻: I bought the $75 K18. Heavy on my hair but I feel and see a difference.

Elli S: I feel like olaplex only works some weeks after my hair has been lightened. After some time I don't see any difference after using them. Maybe it's because they are saturated then...

Marina: I’ve been watching a bunch of your old YouTube videos reacting on stuff it’s so calming and it’s good to see a new video it’s like I’m in the present hahahh

Antiques Restoration: What an informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

EdgenStyle: If brad was my teacher In school I’m pretty sure I would have been an A student.

nevaehhhhh: okay but like why do i wanna see him and james charles do a collab like yk ? just imagine a make up artist and a hair dresser together ! brad could do james hair and james could do brads makeup and i think they would be really good friends!! who agrees ?

Keri Nielsen: I love your videos & fully trust that your products are the BESTTTTT. Buying now
